Margaret M. Whipple

Margaret M. Whipple, 80, of 207 Kilbourne St., Republic, died Sunday evening, Aug. 23, 1998, at her home, following a short illness.
She was born July 4, 1918, in Tiffin, to Renee and Valerie (Freeman) Lepouttre. On Oct. 13, 1940, in Toledo, she married
Harold Whipple. He died in December 1985.
Surviving are three sons: Dick Whipple of Huntington, Ind., Donald Whipple of Wolcottville, Ind. and Harold "Butch" Whipple Jr. of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. John (Janet) Wise of Republic; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Morris Lepouttre of Harperwoods, Mich. and Albert Lepouttre of Attala, Ala.
A sister, Elizabeth Seasley; and two brothers, Victor and Leonard Lepouttre, are also deceased.
Mrs. Whipple, a volunteer at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, worked for many years as a welder at the General Electric in Tiffin, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Republic and its Altar Rosary Society; the Nifty-Fifty Club, Republic Senior Citizens, Wade Benfer American Legion Post 404 Auxiliary, Republic and Tiffin Eagles Auxiliary 402.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka as celebrant. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation at the new Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church or Community Hospice Care.
William C. Dacey
Farmer/maintenance worker
William C. Dacey, 76, formerly of Toledo, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in Eaglewood Care Center, Carey, where he resided.
He was born Nov. 7, 1921, in Gary, Ind., to Charles C. and Amelia (Ciz) Dacey. In 1948, he married
Mary Margaret Harshfield. She died in 1982.
A sister, Mrs. Howard (Mary Ann) Adkins of Toledo, survives.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Harry J. Dacey; and a sister, Angeline Keivel.
Mr. Dacey, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, had worked in maintenance at hotels in Anchorage, Alaska and also had been employed as a farmer in the Bellefontaine, Ohio area.
An avid boxer and swimmer, he was a member of Elks Lodge 1351 in Anchorage.
Graveside services in St. Joseph cemetery, Tiffin, will be 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. William Rose officiating.
There will be no visitation. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Creighton E. 'Tom' Thompson
Former Enchanted Forest co-owner
Creighton E. "Tom" Thompson, 69, of 3595 N. Southway, Catawba Island, died in Firelands Community Hospital, Sandusky, Friday, Aug. 14, 1998.
He was born in Port Clinton, Dec. 10, 1928, to the late Frank Thompson and Irene (Laffey) Thompson-Isenhower. His wife, Olive (Smith) Thompson, whom he married
Oct. 25, 1975, survives at Catawba Island.
Other survivors include: a son, Courtland D. Thompson of Lewisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Tina M. Thompson of Port Clinton; and a grandson.
Mr. Thompson was co-owner with his mother, Irene Isenhower who designed and built the Enchanted Forest of Catawba Island, a popular summer resort, operating 1962-1977, when it was sold.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he retired from the Armstrong Chemical Company. During his retirement he created birdhouses and replicas of places he had visited, including miniatures of the Port Clinton Lighthouse and the Keepers House which he donated to the Ottawa County Museum. He also made a replica of the Wolcott House and it is used by the Ottawa County Historical Society.
Mr. Thompson was selected as a finalist for American Forest for a miniature of Abraham Lincoln's birthplace to be displayed in the Smithsonian Museum.
Visitation at the Gerner-Wolf-Kopchak Funeral Home, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, will be after 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of services at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. W. Neil Roller of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Ottawa County Historical Society.
Everett R. Chamberlin
Former Wooster resident
Everett R. Chamberlin, 87, formerly of Wooster, died Sunday evening, Aug. 16, 1998, in Clyde.
He was born April 22, 1911, in Calcutta, Ohio, to Homer and Florence (Guyton) Chamberlin and had lived in the Wooster area most of his life. On Nov. 8, 1936, in Wooster, He married
Dorothy C. Kostenbader. She survives.
Survivors also include: a son, James H. Chamberlin of Green Springs; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Clark of Grant's Pass, Ore.; three grandchildren and fivegreat-grandchildren.
Six brothers and six sisters are deceased.
Mr. Chamberlin, who had resided in Green Springs for the past eight years, held memberships in the Trinity United Church of Christ of Wooster, Wooster Moose Lodge 1115 and the Wooster Little League, where he served as past president and was very active for seven years.
An avid horseman and past member of the Wayne County Saddle Club, he was a former member of the Ohio National Guard 1944-45.
Services in the Custer Funeral Home, 2284 Brenden Drive, Wooster, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. James Christensen officiating. Burial will follow in Wooster cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
Alyce M. Dicken
Self-employed caterer
Alyce M. Dicken, 84, of 296 Ainsworth Ave., Gahanna, Ohio, died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in the Whetstone Care Center, Gahanna.
Born Aug. 13, 1914, in Fostoria, to Abraham and Minnie (Rowe) Herbert, she married
Adam H. Dicken, Sept. 2, 1933. He died April 8, 1992.
Surviving are: a son, Stanley C. Dicken of Lafayette, La.; two daughters, Joan A. Anderson of Gahanna and Mrs. Eric (Marilyn) Stech of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Zuern of Louisville, Ky. and Mrs. Arnold (Joyce) Farwig of Fostoria; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, Andrew Herbert; and a sister, Lucille Lawless.
Mrs. Dicken, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Louisville, Ky., was self-employed as a caterer, owning Alyce Catering Service in Bonnville, Mo., for 13 years, retiring in 1973.
She also was a member of Order of Eastern Star 419, Boonville where she served as past worthy matron.
Private services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Branson J. Hawkes officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation also will be private.

Madonna M. Opp
RCA retiree
Madonna M. Opp, 73, of 127 E. High St., Fostoria, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
She was born Dec. 11, 1924, the daughter of William and Ada (Strausbaugh) Smith. Her husband, Samuel E. Opp, whom she married
March 11, 1950, died April 24, 1987.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Karen) Crosby of Arcadia; a sister, Glada Luzadder of Fostoria; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were: a son, Samuel E. Opp Jr.; three brothers, Troy, Dutch and Harley Smith; and three sisters, Delice Niday, Dorothy Savidge and Joan Fuller.
Mrs. Opp worked at the RCA (now Harris Corp) in Findlay for 20 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria; Emblem Club 213, Fostoria Womens Club and the Order of Eastern Star.
The Rev. David Bliss will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today, where Emblem Club 213 memorial services will be at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Barbara M. Weingartner
Heinz Company employee
Barbara M. Weingartner, 45, of 2636 Douglas St., Burgoon, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 1998. She was born on Jan. 23, 1953, in Fremont to Bert and Jane (Rich) Witt; her father survives. On Feb. 6, 1982, she married
Christian "Chris" A. Weingartner, and he survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Tracy Bleckinger of Bettsville; two grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Bleckinger; three brothers, William and Tom Witt, both of Fremont, and Jerry Witt of Gibsonburg; a sister, Mrs. Bruce (Christine) Mock of Gibsonburg.
Mrs. Weingartner was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Fremont and she worked for the H.J. Heinz Company in Fremont for 25 years.
Officiating the 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, service will be Paul Weingartner (brother-in-law of Barbara) at the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville. Burial will be at Smith cemetery in Burgoon.
Visitation hours are one hour before the service today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Fremont Memorial Hospice in care of the funeral home.
Betty June (Dalton) Martin
Clyde resident
Betty June (Dalton) Martin, 68, of Race St., Clyde, died at 7:15 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 1998, at the Medical College of Ohio. She was born Monday, Dec. 23, 1929, in Amstead, Ky., to William Thomas and Icie Mae (George) Dalton; both have since passed away. On. Nov. 21, 1954, she married
Dewey Martin, who died June 29, 1993.
Survivors include: a son, Dewey Lawrence "Larry" Martin of Fremont; two daughters, Mrs. James (Betty Jane) Hasselbach of Tiffin and Mrs. Evelyn Mae Jesse of Kodak, Tenn.; two sisters, Evelyn Nutter of Columbus, and Grace Murphy of Sevierville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a son, John Martin, who died in May 1977; and two sisters, Lo Saunders and Mary June Minix.
Mrs. Martin graduated from Paintsville High School. She worked as the secretary at Clyde Baptist Church and as a first teacher's aide in Clyde Junior High School. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Clyde and a resident of Clyde since 1954.
The Rev. Dee Whaley will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, service at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be at the McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation hours are 7-9 p.m., today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in the name of Joshua Fields to the Multiple Schloris Society.
Lottie M. Leboda

Lottie M. Leboda, 84, of Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, died at 6:19 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, in the Fostoria Community Hospital. She was born June 13, 1914, in Claridge, Pa., to Walter and Veronica (Wierzbowski) Kowalski, both deceased. On June 1, 1935, she married
Kasmer J. Leboda in Detroit, Mich., and he died Dec. 11, 1993.
Survivors include: a daughter, Dolores Parks of Fostoria; a sister, Helen Kucia of Lorain; two grandsons, Ray and Jeffrey Parks; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Leboda was a homemaker and a member of St. Wendelin Church and the Fostoria Senior Citizens Center.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at St. Wendelin Church, Fostoria. Burial will be at St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Wendelin's.

Mary (Ink) Fretz

Mary (Ink) Fretz, 98, formerly of South SR 67, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center, 2320 W. Seneca CR 6, where she resided.
She was born Aug. 21, 1899, in Clinton Township, Seneca County, to Charles W. and Della (Boyle) Ink. On June 15, 1950, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, she married
Harry Fretz. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1988.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Margie King of Fremont; three step-grandchildren; four nephews and six nieces.
A stepson, Robert Fretz; three brothers, Samuel, Charles and Maurice Ink; and a niece are also deceased.
A homemaker, Mrs. Fretz was a graduate of Ursuline Academy. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Republic; the American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella and a founding member of the Just Neighbor's Club.
A funeral Mass in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, will be 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Tiffin.
Visitation is 6:30-8:30 p.m. today in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Richard B. Kistler

Richard B. Kistler, 75, died at 7:03 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at his home at 22 Quay St.
He was born in Tiffin, Nov. 1, 1922, to Delbert J. and Sarah Elizabeth (Burr) Kistler. His wife, Bonnie Jean (Archer) Kistler, whom he married
March 5, 1944, in Harbor View, Ohio, died June 8, 1987.
Survivors include: two sons, Rodger E. Kistler of Tiffin and Rick D. Kistler of Helena; a daughter, Beverly Sue Mosier of Fostoria; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Ned A. Kistler; five infant children and four grandchildren.
Mr. Kistler owned and operated Dick's Bar and Grill in Bloomville for 14 years and retired as a sales/distribution supervisor in 1980 after 18 years of employment at Lawson Milk Company. He also was the manager of the L & K Motel in Tiffin until 1985.
He was a lifetime member of the following: AMVETS Post 48, Disabled American Veterans Post 34 and VFW Post 2858, where he served twice as past commander.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he also was a member of the Protestant Faith and the Military Order of Cooties.
The Rev. David M. Culp will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.
