Frederick E. Ringle
Tiffin native
Frederick E. Ringle, 81, of Shawnee Manor Nursing Home, Lima, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at the nursing home.
He was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Tiffin, to the late Frederick Giles and Eugneia (Kiskaden) Adams Ringle. On June 19, 1948, he married
Katherine C. Phillips, who survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Fay Gepfrey of Fenton, Mich., and Mrs. Sheila Hogg of Destrehan, La.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Ann Price of Prescott, Ariz.
A brother, Alexander Ringle, preceded him in death.
Mr. Ringle was the retired president of Ringle Plating Corp. of Celina. A graduate of the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., he served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of World War II as commander in rank and commanding officer of the USS Richard S. Bull and later the USS Edmonds. He was active in church work in several Episcopal and Lutheran churches and sang in various church choirs. He was crucifer, lay reader, lector and Sunday School teacher, and served on the vestries and boards of trustees. He also had memberships in Mercer County Elk's Lodge 2170 and Shawnee Country Club.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Siferd Westwood Chapel, 506 N. Cable Road, Lima, with the Rev. Arthur Wilde and Thomas Lentz officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Tiffin.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 209 W. North St., Lima; Lutheran Social Services; or the oncology unit of St. Rita's Medical Center or St. Rita's Hospice.
Lois Virginia Haines
Florida resident
Lois Virginia Haines, 74, of 18742 Rea Way, Altoona, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998.
She was born in Altoona, Fla., and was a lifelong resident of that city.
Surviors include: two sons, Robert and Larry Haines, of Altoona and Williston, Fla., respectively; a daughter, Mary Ellen Johnson of Gainesville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Grover Bates of Avon Park, Fla., and Wilbur Bates of Lake City, Fla.; and two sisters, Marjorie Chatham of Altoona and Inez Galloway of Tavares, Fla.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Altoona and the Florida Hospital Waterman Foundation.

Marion (Hodges) Drake
Former Tiffin reading teacher
Marion (Hodges) Drake, 88, formerly of Tiffin, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care facility following a long illness with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Plymouth Township, Ashtabula County, Aug. 26, 1910, the daughter of Lucius and Glendora (Stevenson) Hodges. On June 6, 1934, she married
Max Drake, and he survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, David (Margo) Drake of Tiffin, Jim (Sara) Drake of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Steve (Barbara) Drake of St. Louis, Mo., and Paul (Peggy) Drake of Huron; a daughter, Ellen Drake of Tiffin; a sister, Alice Rushton of Kingsville; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a twin son, Phillip, who died at birth, andbrothers Arthur and Wilbur.
A lifelong educator, Mrs. Drake graduated from Ashtabula High School and Kent State University. She was a fourth-generation teacher. Her first teaching job was in a one-room school house in Ashtabula County. After raising her family, Mrs. Drake returned to teaching as a reading specialist in the Tiffin public and Catholic schools. She was active in church work, Bible study, women's clubs and garden and Shakespeare clubs.
The Rev. Mark Johnson will officiate the 11 a.m. Monday service at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Floral Grove cemetery, Pioneer.
Friends may call after noon Sunday at the St. John-White Funeral Home, Reading. The family will receive friends that evening from 7-9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. or the Hillsdale United Methodist Church.
Billy L. Spitler
Father of area residents
Billy L. Spitler, 65, of 8351 S. SR 53, McCutchenville, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Wyandot County, to Noah L. and Gladys T. Spitler. He married
Donna M. Koby Dec. 1, 1956, in Tiffin.
Survivors include: his mother; his wife; three sons, Thomas L., Tracy R. and Todd W. Spitler of Loveland, Ohio, Colorado Springs, Col., and Findlay, Ohio, respectively; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Tina) Decker of Weston, Ohio; three grandchildren; and four sisters, Alice Shrode of Tiffin, Mrs. Eugene (Joyce) Holmer of Republic, Mrs. Eugene (Maxine) Philbrook of Cardington, Ohio, and Peggy Spitler of McCutchenville.
His father and brothers Ray and Tom Spitler preceded him in death.
Mr. Spitler was retired from the Farmers' Commission Co. of Upper Sandusky. A Navy veteran, he was a member of St. Nicholas Church of Frenchtown and the New Riegel American Legion.
A memorial Mass will take place at a later date. The body was donated to Cleveland Clinic Foundation for the Advancement of Medical Science.

Charlotte L. Goodman, 60, of Sycamore, died noon Friday, May 1, 1998, in the Marion Med Center Hospital, Marion.

Doris Thelma Brown
Native of Tiffin
Doris Thelma Brown, 91, of 10603 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, Ohio, died Monday, April 27, 1998, in the Eliza Jenninigs Home in Cleveland.
Born Jan. 18, 1907, in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late Harry W. and Celesta E. (Martin) Beck, she was widowed from her husband, Maxwell V. Brown, who died Sept. 11, 1973.
Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara A. Bryenton of Fairview Park, Ohio, and Patricia E. Bright of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A homemaker with a deep devotion to her family, Mrs. Brown attended Fairview Baptist Church, Fairview Park, where she sang in the choir. The Founder of Fairview Park Womens Club, she was also a member of: Womens Board of Fairview Hospital; Fairview Schools P.T.A. Clifton Club; Mothers Singers; and Baldwin Wallace Bach Choir. She also sang at weddings and other gatherings.
The Rev. James Widmer will preside at a memorial service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairview Baptist Church, Fairview Park. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort, Ohio.

L. Lucille Smith

L. Lucille Smith, 77, of Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, died at 3:05 a.m. Friday, May 1, 1998, at Good Shepherd. She formerly lived on Colonial Drive, Fostoria.
She was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Hillard, Mo., to James D. and Ethel J. (Loury) Enlow. On Feb. 11, 1942, she married
Harley V. Smith, who died Jan. 19, 1997.
Her caregiver, Deanne C. Carpenter of Fostoria, survives.
Her parents, husband and a brother, James Leo Enlow, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith graduated in 1938 form Poplar Bluff High School, Poplar Bluff, Mo., and had retired in the 1980's as a secretary at the Lima Correctional Institution, Lima, Ohio. A former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lima, she attended the Church of the Nazarene, Fostoria.
At 1:30 p.m. Monday, the Rev. Russell Gumm will officiate at funeral services at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Memory Gardens near Arcadia, Ohio.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or the Fostoria Church of the Nazarene.

George I. Thomasson I, 75, of West County Rd. 18, Fostoria, Ohio, was found dead at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at his home.
On April 10, 1923, in Fostoria, he was born to John L. and Lulu J. (Kost) Thomasson. Dorothy L. Myers, whom he married
Jan. 14, 1950, in Fostoria, died Dec. 12, 1993.
Survivors are: his mother, Lulu J. Mitchell of Fostoria; a son, George I. Thomasson II of Fostoria; two daughters, Michelle Thomasson of California and Mrs. Werner (Sandra) Cramer of Findlay, Ohio; a grandson; two brothers, Ralph Mitchell of Fostoria and Fred Thomasson of S.C.; and two sisters, Juanita Dunfee of Fostoria and Donna Jean Below of Sarasota, Fla.
His father, wife and a brother, Orlin Mitchell, preceded him in death.
Mr. Thomasson served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired in 1987 from Atlas Crankshaft Corporation, Fostoria, after over 30 years of employment.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest cemetery, Findlay, Ohio.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Sophie Pellitteri, 84, of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 10:45 Friday, May 1, 1998, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 2, 1914, in New York City, to the late Joseph and Concetta (Scorrari) Pellitteri. She never married
.
A niece, Tina Earl of Fostoria, survives.
Her parents, a brother and three sisters prececed her in death.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the nursing home, with Father Jose Corral officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Edward William Brown
Attica Lumber Co. truck driver
Edward William Brown, 74, of 3762 Albaugh Road, Bloomville, died in the Emergency Room of Bucyrus Community Hospital at 11:36 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 1998. He had been ill for the past several months.
He was born in Gainsboro, Tenn., July 9, 1925, to Lester and Hester (Meadows) Brown. On June 2, 1944, he married
Doshia Loftis, and she survives.
Survivors also include: three children, Faye Hurst of Bucyrus, William Brown of Tennessee and Mike Brown of New Washington; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Dave Brown of Tennessee, Boyd Brown of Florida, Fawler Brown of Bucyrus, Kenny Brown of Bloomville and Doug Brown of Republic; and a sister, Mrs. Bob (Judy) Legron of Tiffin.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Ron, Dawson, Louis and Junior Brown; and a sister, Barbara Ann Brown.
Mr. Brown, who attended school in Tennessee, worked for 40 years at the Attica Lumber Company as a truck driver.
Services in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus, will be 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in College Hill cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home is 7-9 p.m. today.

Lulu M. Corfman
Former Sycamore homemaker
Lulu M. Corfman, 88, formerly of 405 S. Sycamore Ave., Sycamore, died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 1998, in Heartland of Bucyrus.
She was born in Little Sandusky, Wyandot County, Feb. 2, 1910, to Ohlin and Clara (Bardan) Hablitzel. Her husband, Everett E. "Ducky" Corfman, whom she married
Nov. 9, 1931, preceded her in death March 17, 1983.
Surviving are two sons, Duane E. Corfman of Sycamore and Larry H. Corfman of Galion; four daughters, Mrs. Berlyn (Janis) Geary of rural Sycamore, Mrs. Ralph (Ruth Ann) Myers of Bloomdale, Mrs. Marilyn Holdcraft of Bucyrus and Mrs. Dennis (Rita) Van Hoosier of rural Bucyrus.; 28 grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and a step-great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Sigler of Marion.
Also preceding her in death were four sons, Keith, Daryl, Jerry and Charles Corfman; and three brothers, Louis, Ira and Arlis Hablitzel.
A homemaker, Mrs. Corfman was a member of Sycamore United Church of Christ and its Gaza-Berean Sunday School Class, Sycamore American Legion Auxiliary Post 250, the 8 & 40 and Phythian Sisters Lodge 412, Nevada.
A 1929 graduate of McCutchenville High School, she also was a member of McCutchen Grange and the Gold Star Mothers.
The Rev. Lon McSherley will conduct the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Interment will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, Sycamore.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Virginia G. Ruggles
Mother of former Tiffin minister
Former Willard resident, Virginia G. Ruggles, 81, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at her residence at 610 Executive Blvd., Delaware.
She was born Feb. 10, 1917, in Huron County, to Dorothy (Niles) and Donald Mitchell. Her husband, Glenn, died in 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Karen) Everhart of Delaware and Mrs. William (Dorothy) Chappelear of Tallmadge; two sons, the Rev. Gordon Ruggles of Alliance and John Ruggles of Olive Hill, Ky.; two sisters, Elizabeth Baker of Bradenton, Fla. and Mary Lockard of Royal Oak, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Mrs. Ruggles, a realtor for Ray Snook Realty in Willard, resided in New Haven before moving to Delaware in 1985.
She also served as a volunteer for Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware and the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church, Willard, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dan Humerickhauser will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Monroeville.
