Charles L. Ryman Jr.
American Standard retiree
Charles L. Ryman Jr., 63, 245 Circular St., died at 6:31 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 1998, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born in Tiffin, Feb. 22, 1935, the son of the late Charles L. Sr. and Neva (Hill) Ryman. His wife, Adaline (Reinbolt) Ryman, whom he married
Dec. 10, 1955, in Tiffin, survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Vicki and Judy Ryman and Mrs. Daniel (Susan) Welly, all of Tiffin; five grandsons, Nicholas, Christopher, Jason, Jacob and Brent Welly; and two sisters, Mrs. Bobby (Helen) Halfhill of Tiffin and Mrs. Albert (Carol) May of Bucyrus.
A life-time Tiffin resident and a 1953 Columbian High School graduate, Mr. Ryman retired in June 1993, from the American Standard, where he had been employed for 37 years. He first worked four years in the personel department and the balance of his working years he was a foreman and worked in the kiln department.
He was a member of the Izaak Walton League, the AARP and the First Lutheran Church, where he was a 50-year member. He served in the U.S. Army 1954-56.
Services in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. John S. Ferne officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the church, the Diabetes Foundation or the Heart Association.
Leo Rudolph Schoen

Former longtime Tiffin resident, Leo Rudolph Schoen, 83, of 15943 E. TR 104, Attica, died at 5 am. Wednesday, June 3, 1998, in Hillside Acres Nursing Home, Willard.
He was born Feb. 28, 1915, in Reed Township, Seneca County, to Henry and Gertrude (Hossman) Schoen. On June 1, 1939, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married
Mildred Swope. She preceded him in death April 24, 1990.
Surviving are three sons, Gene Schoen of Tiffin, Donald "Duck" Schoen of Marion and Allan Schoen of Attica; three daughters, Mrs. William (Pat) Oliver and Mrs. Leonard (Ann) Lucius, both of Tiffin and Mrs. Kenneth (Peg) Carrick of Attica; three sisters, Mrs. Norbert (Mildred) Holmer and Agnes Holmer, both of Republic and Theresa Ann Elmlinger of Monroeville; three brothers, Joseph Schoen of Tiffin, Sylvester Schoen of Bellevue and Henry Schoen of Berryville, Ark.; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Earl and Urban Schoen; three sisters, Rosemary Holmer, Edith Swope and Sister Mary Edith Schoen; and a grandson, Aaron Schoen.
The owner of Schoen Construction, Mr. Schoen was a carpenter and home builder.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, Archbishop Schrembs Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Tiffin Elks Lodge and past president of the Home Builders Association of Tiffin.
Mr. Schoen's nephew, the Rev. James Holmer will be the celebrant at the 10 a.m. Saturday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, where Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Building Fund.
Jacqueline B. 'Jacky' Johnston
Upper Sandusky native
Jacqueline B. "Jacky" Johnston, 36, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at her home in Canon City, Col.
She was born in Upper Sandusky, Oct. 5, 1961, to Dennis and Barbara (Maxwell) Gerber. They survive in Upper Sandusky.
Survivors also include: a son, Abram Johnston and a daughter, Naomi Johnston, both of Canon City; a brother, Maxwell Gerber of Nevada, Ohio; a sister, Rebecca Romanko of Canon City; maternal grandmother, Ahlene Maxwell of Upper Sandusky; paternal grandmother, Regina Gerber also of Upper Sandusky; a niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, North Maxwell and Karl Gerber.
Ms. Johnston, a 1979 Upper Sandusky High School graduate, moved to Canon City in 1991 from Colorado Springs where she had lived for 13 years.
She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and boating at her second home at Blue Mesa Lake in Colorado. She also liked flower gardening and cooking.
The Rev. Jim Herzog will officiate at the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Holt Family Funeral Home Chapel, Canon City.
Memorials may made to a fund established for her children, the Johnston Childrens' Fund, in care of Lucal Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky St., Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351, who are in charge of local arrangements.
Robert Lewis Noftz
Ford Motor Co. retiree
Robert Lewis Noftz, 71, of Bertha Avenue, Clyde, died at his residence Wednesday, June 3, 1998.
Born in Fremont, March 22, 1927, to Clarence Noftz and Leona (Sparks) Noftz Rowe, he married
Mona Grimm, July 30, 1948. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Robert L., Terry and Scott Noftz, all of Clyde and Roger Noftz of Green Springs; three daughters, Carol Sue Rovder of North Canton, Mrs. A. William (Joanne) Norman of Bellevue and Mrs. Juan (Dee) Pena of Fremont; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and five brothers Darl, Clinton, Donald and Richard L. Noftz, all of Clyde and Jerry Noftz of Sandusky.
Mr. Noftz, who received his education in the Clyde Schools, retired July 1, 1990 as an assembler from the Ford Motor Co., Sandusky, after 26 years of service.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the VFW, where he was a life member, the Moose and Eagles, all of Clyde.
Services in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Gerhardt Gosnell officiating. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where Moose Lodge services will be at 6:45 p.m.
Betty Jean Kelly

Betty Jean Kelly, 57, of Eaglewood Care Center, Carey, died in the emergency room at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 1998.
She was born in Carey, May 6, 1941, to Frank M. and Nancy J. (Wells) Puchta. Her father survives in Carey. She first married
Earl Arthur Gault Jr. and he died in 1976. Her second husband, Carl F. Kelly, whom she married
Aug. 28,1976, died Dec. 23, 1992.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Gault of Carey and Keith Gault of Fostoria; a step-son, Shawn Kelly of Dayton; nine step-daughters, Kathy Moran, Carol Barnett, Paula Thompson and Pam Biddle, all of Carey, Teri Compton of Beverly, Ohio, Tina Murphy of Marion, Cynthia Delbridge of Ruskin, Fla., Christian Kelly of Sarasota, Fla. and Carrie Hill of Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carol Porter, Mrs. Pete (Sharon) Niederkohr and Mrs. Steve (Connie) Stapley, all of Carey; and a brother, Jim Puchta of Findlay.
Her mother is deceased.
Mrs. Kelly, a 1959 Carey High School graduate and a graduate of Toledo Academy of Hair, was employed as a supervisor at Bell Department Store in Ruskin, Fla. and as a notary public, also in Florida.
A member of the Methodist Faith, she also was a member of Palmetto Lodge 2117 Loyal Order of Moose and the Auxiliary of Earl Green Post 344 American Legion, Carey.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.
Visitation at the funeral home is 6-9 p.m. today.

John J. "Whistler" Cook

John J. "Whistler" Cook, 55, 1473 W. Continental St., died at 1 a.m. Monday, June 1, 1998, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, following a sudden illness.
He was born in Fostoria, Jan. 4, 1943, to the late Clow H. and Mary V. (Keller) Cook. On July 21, 1962, he married
Phyllis Myers, and they were divorced. His companion, Nancy Englehart, survives at the residence.
Other survivors include: a son, Thomas E. Cook of rural Sycamore; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Franklin (Geneva) Smith of Sycamore; and two brothers, Norman O. Cook Sr. of rural Tiffin and Paul T. Cook of Sycamore.
Preceding him in death were five brothers, Dick, Bob, Bill and Merle Cook and Jim Wolfe.
A member of the Protestant Faith, Mr. Cook was employed as a machinist at the National Machinery.
An avid CB'er and fisherman, he was a member of Tiffin Moose Lodge 846 and the National Machinery Quarter Century Club.
Services in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. David Powell officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
Frank G. Hovis Jr.

Frank G. Hovis Jr., 79, of Risingsun, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 3:05 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 1998.
He was born in Helena, May 8, 1918, to Frank G. and Hazel E. (Ritchey) Hovis Sr. On Dec. 22, 1936, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., he married
Betty J. Frazier. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, John A. and Ronald J. Hovis, both of Risingsun, and Donald A. Hovis of Bradner; a daughter, Leone M. James of Valley Falls, Kan.; a sister, Phyllis Preston of Lexington, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were: a sister, Mary Barth; a brother, Richard Hovis; and a granddaughter.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the South Pacific, Mr. Hovis owned and operated Hovis and Son's Construction for 49 years and also was engaged in farming.
He was a member of both the Fremont Eagles and Elks, Welker-Smith American Legion Post 17, Gibsonburg, the Sandusky County Sportsman Club, where he was a life member, and the Risingsun Volunteer Fire Department.
Services in Risingsun First Church of God will be 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Paul Rutledge and Dr. Darrell Prichard officiating. Burial will be in Scott-Trinity cemetery, Sandusky County, Scott Township.
Visitation at the Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The body also will lie in state one hour before the services at the church on Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the church, Risingsun Volunteer Fire Department, American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Betty J. Heath-Bloomfield, 72, of Woodville, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, in St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon, Ohio, following a sudden illness.
She was born in Tiffin, Sept. 27, 1925, the daughter of Benjamin and Minnie (Roy) Runion. Her husband, Ray Heath, whom she married
July 13, 1944, in Woodville, preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1967.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Richard A. (Barbara) Ickes Sr. of Walbridge, Mrs. Michael (Betty S.) Klavinger and Mrs. Donald (Judy A.) Klavinger Sr., both of Woodville; a son, David L. Heath of Woodville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Runion of Tiffin; and three sisters, Mable Ruhle of Sycamore, Ruth Ross of Norwalk and Mrs. Clyde (Sarah) Fish of Tiffin.
Also preceding her in death were: a daughter, Florence Heath; a son, Jerry R. Heath; a great-grandson, Dustin Hurley; and four brothers, Allen, Frank, Clarence and Bob Runion.
A homemaker, Mrs. Bloomfield was a member of Victory Christian Fellowship Church, Fremont.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home,Woodville. Interment will be in West Union cemetery, Gibsonburg.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-9 p.m. today, with the family present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Woodville Township Volunteer Fire Department or the church.
Norbert Hoerig

Word has been received of the death of Norbert Hoerig, 84, of Hawthorne, Calif., who died in California, Friday, April 24, 1998.
Services will be noon Wednesday in Grace Chapel, Englewood Park cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of the service at the chapel.
Mr. Hoerig, who had been self-employed, was born and raised in Tiffin.
The family was assisted in arrangements by the McKenzie Mortuary, Signal Hill, Calif.
Esther Emma Grine
Homemaker/nursing home employee
Esther Emma Grine, 91, of 209 W. Center St., Fostoria, died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, April 26, 1998, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.
She was born Jan. 10, 1907, in Carey, to William and Mary (Gase) Fox. On Sept. 25, 1923, in New Riegel, she married
Alvin Grine. He died Aug. 18, 1952.
Surviving are: five sons, Vernon E., Vincent E., James E. and Paul L. Grine, all of Fostoria, and Harold J. Grine of Hopewell, N.J.; a daughter, Ellen R. Greek of Tiffin; 58 grandchildren: 103 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Richard and Alvin Grine Jr.; five daughters, Margaret Grine, Mrs. Albert (Helen) Kauffman, Mrs. Leonard (Hilda) Krupp, Mrs. William (Rita) Calvert and Mrs. James (Inez) Miller; three brothers, Paul, Lewis and Virgil Fox; and a sister, Beatrice Youngpeter, are deceased.
A homemaker, Mrs. Grine also worked for 30 years in the laundry at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its 55-Plus Club, Ladies of the Moose and the Eagles Auxiliary, all of Fostoria.
A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary L. Honsberger

Mary L. Honsberger, 87, Heartland Nursing Home and formerly of 1290 Home Circle Drive, Bucyrus, died at 2:20 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
She was born June 26, 1910, in Upper Sandusky to Leroy "Tip" and Bena (Goofried) Stevens, both deceased. On April 6, 1930 she married
Burton Honsberger. He also is deceased.
Surviving are: a son, Wesley L. Honsberger of Upper Sandusky; four daughters, Mrs. Owen (Clara Jean) Snyder of Marion, Ind., Mrs. Joseph (Rita E.) Snyder of Scottsbluff, Neb., Colleen L. Seckel of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. David (Patricia A.) Jury of Bucyrus; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren
Preceding her in death were a son, John Steven Honsberger, and a sister, Alma Cochran.
Mrs. Honsberger retired from the Millington Plastics Co. in Upper Sandusky. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Women of the Church. She was a Gray Lady at the hospital and a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School.
Pastor Kyle A. Mann will officiate the 11 a.m. Monday service at the Wise Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pleasant View cemetery in Sycamore.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
