Sally Ann James, 19, of 486 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died Sunday morning, Nov. 29, 1998, in a rural Fostoria/Hancock County automobile accident.
She was born in Toledo, July 7, 1979.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Edward and Rebecca Galan Sr. of Fostoria; her father and stepmother, Gary L. and Vickie James Sr. of Swanton; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Troy (Nettie) Bass-Pickett of Temperance, Mich.; paternal grandmother, Mrs. James (Delores) Grycza of Delta; a brother, Gary L. James Jr. of Fostoria; a half-brother, Jeremy B. James of Swanton; three step-brothers, Eddie, Thomas and David Galan, all of Fostoria; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.
Her maternal grandfather, Onnie Rainey and paternal grandfather, Charles James Sr., are deceased.
Miss James, a cashier at Foodtown in Findlay, had attended Fostoria High School. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church, Toledo.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Tim Womack officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Harold L. 'Bud' Chalfin
Helena farmer
Harold L. "Bud" Chalfin, 77, of Helena, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 22, 1921, in Wood County, to Carl C. and Florence M. (Main) Chalfin. On Feb. 2, 1941, in Sandusky County, Scott Township, he married
Emma L. Kiser. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Sharon L. Chalfin of Helena; a brother, Carl "Ed" Chalfin of Risingsun; three sisters, Mrs. Phil (Lila L.) Frisch of Fostoria, Doris L. Uhlbeck of Fremont and Mrs. Ernest (Cora J.) Stotler of Alvada; five grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Three sons, H. Marvin, Daryl Lee and Gary R. "Fudge" Chalfin; two brothers, Charles and Gerald "Bus" Chalfin; and a sister, Margaret Risner, are deceased.
Mr. Chalfin, a farmer, also worked as a bus driver and janitor for the Lakota Schools and at the Fremont Post Office.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 101st Airborn Division, he was a member of Scott-Trinity United Methodist Church and Crow Foot American Legion Post, Risingsun, where he served as commander.
Services in the Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Gustavus Christo-Baker officiating. Burial will be in Scott-Trinity cemetery, Sandusky County, Scott Township.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-9 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the church or Sandusky County Hospice.
John M. Lewis
Webster retiree
John M. Lewis, 73, 229 Lelar St., died at 4:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born in Columbus, Sept. 28, 1925, to Thomas E. and Cornelia (Brial) Lewis. His wife, Mary (O'Leary) Lewis, whom he married
May 16, 1953, in Columbus, survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Donald E. Lewis of Nevada City, Calif.; a daughter, Janet E. Lewis M.D. of Charlottesville, Va.; three brothers, Thomas E., Arthur H. and James M. Lewis, all of Columbus; and three sisters, Cornelia Sedgwick and Catharine Grey, both of Columbus and Sarah Garrett of Davenport, Iowa.
Formerly of Columbus, Mr. Lewis retired from Webster Industries as vice president of product development.
A member of the Presbyterian Faith, he also was a member of Tiffin Elks Lodge 94, Eagles 402, where he served as past president; VFW Post 2858 and the Tiffin Historic Trust, where he was a life member.
Mr. Lewis obtained a patent as the co-inventor of Drying Particulate Material.
A registered professional engineer, he graduated in 1943 from Central High School, Columbus and in 1948 from the Ohio State University.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Europe and the Asiatic Pacific Theater and remained as captain in the Army Reserves until 1962.
The Rev. Dr. Arthur Geyh will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Martin will officiate at the 2:30 p.m. Wednesday graveside service in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 will hold services at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Tiffin Historic Trust, the Ritz Theatre, Seneca County Visiting Nurses or the donor's choice.
Helen L. Hoyer

Helen L. Hoyer, 61, of South Union Street, Fostoria, died in Fostoria Community Hospital at 3:08 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998.
She was born June 25, 1937, in Perrysburg, to the late Lawrence E. and Sophia L. (Zieglar) Wagner. On Nov. 9, 1958, in Fostoria, she married
Raymond A. Hoyer. They were divorced. He died Dec. 25, 1993.
Survivors include: two sons, Scott Hoyer of Fostoria and Jeffery Hoyer of West Millgrove; two daughters, Mrs. David (Holly) Reinbolt and Mrs. Douglas (Wendy) Pahl, both of Fostoria; a brother, Richard Rowland of Northwood; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Cline Sr. of West Millgrove; and 12 grandchildren.
Mrs. Hoyer, a 1955 graduate of Fostoria High School, retired in 1993 from the Atlas Crankshaft Corp., after 23 years of employment.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Richard Hofmann officiating. Interment will be in Luckey cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the church.

Ann M. Calloway, 45, of Vanlue, died at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

James L. Cassidy, 84, of 307 N. Sycamore Ave., Sycamore, died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at his home.

Raymond "Pud" Alley

Raymond "Pud" Alley, 82, of Watson Avenue, Fostoria, died at 8:41 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born in Fostoria, Feb. 9, 1916, to John and Iva (Clark) Alley. His wife, Margaret E. (Crawford) Alley, whom he married
April 12, 1941, in Defiance, survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: a brother, Ralph Alley of Fostoria; three sisters, Joyce Agerter of Tiffin, Helen Burns of Toledo and Florence George of Montrose, Colo.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, James, Don, Clark and Robert Alley; and two sisters, Clorinda Stocker and Louise Moehrman.
A veteran of the U.S. Cost Guard, having served during World War II, Mr. Alley retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1981 from Seneca Wire in Fostoria after 45 years of service.
He was a member of Fostoria Elks Lodge 935 and the Fostoria Country Club.
Graveside services in Graham cemetery, near Wayne, will be 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Edmond Zickefoose officiating.
Visitation at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is 7-9 p.m. today.

Alvin A. DeMonte
National Machinery retiree
Alvin A. DeMonte, 72, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at his residence at 5940 N. SR 53.
He was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Tiffin, to Antonio and Vincenza (Pelligrini) DeMonte. On Aug. 7, 1946, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married
Marjorie R. Starkey. She survives.
Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Mader of Tiffin and Mrs. Patrick (Roberta) Gillig of Waterville; a son, Alvin "Butch" DeMonte of Tiffin; seven grandchildren; a brother, Primo DeMonte, of Tiffin; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Amabalis) Huss, also of Tiffin.
A brother, Louis, is deceased.
Mr. DeMonte, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, retired in 1989 from the National Machinery.
He was a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church will be 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Frank A. Murd as celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where National Machinery Quarter Century Club members will meet in body at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church or Community Hospice Care.
Jean (James) Parsons

Jean (James) Parsons, 72, of 218 Salem St., Risingsun, died in the Fostoria Community Hospital at 1:16 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998.
Born Sept. 5, 1926, in Inez, Ky., to Allen W. and Wilda (Horn) James, she married
Richard A. Parsons, March 30, 1945, in Risingsun. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1980.
Survivors include: her companion, Art Mynard of Risingsun; two brothers, John B. James of Valley Falls, KS, and Jack M. James of Bradner; a sister, Myrtle Yoder of Fremont; and three special nieces, Marcia Boice, Jan Heaver and Marcie Williams.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, James A. James; and two sisters, Anna Laura Burkett and Susie M. Cassady.
A member of the Risingsun Fire Department Auxiliary and Local 533 Retirees, Mrs. Parsons retired in 1974 as an assembler from Bendix (now Allied Signal) in Fostoria, where she had been employed for 30 years.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, with the Rev. Ivan L. Schwenn officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Risingsun Fire Department Auxiliary or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Risingsun.
Donald H. Davenport
Green Springs truck driver
Donald H. Davenport, 59, of 3450 CR 34, Green Springs, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where he had been a patient for two days.
He was born in Gibsonburg Nov, 6, 1939, to Lewis L. and Helen (Ward) Davenport. His mother survives in Green Springs. On Aug. 24, 1963, in Clyde Baptist Church, he married
Shirley A. Stout. She also survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gary Lee at home and Larry E. of Green Springs; two granddaughters; four brothers, Eldon of East Brewton, Ala., Harold of Green Springs, Sanford of White's Landing and Marvin of Fremont; and a sister, Mrs. James (Beverly) Barr of Vickery.
His father is deceased.
Mr. Davenport, a U.S. Navy veteran, was employed as a driver for Wikels Trucking Co.-Agri Service Transport. He had resided in the Green Springs area his entire life.
Services in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs will be noon Wednesday, with Juanita Magers, pastoral care associate, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Garden, Clyde.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Orpha L. Bloom
Former Hall Street homemaker
Orpha L. Bloom, 87, formerly of 221 Hall St., died at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in St. Francis Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 11, 1911, in Seneca County to Eli and Minnie (Hunker) Bauman. Her husband, Ray B. Bloom, whom she married
June 6, 1943, in Tiffin, died Jan. 5, 1998.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Stewart of Rawson; two grandsons, Tony and Doug Stewart; and a sister, Martha Meisner of rural Tiffin.
Two brothers, Ralph and Walter Bauman; and a sister, Mary Kline, also are deceased.
A homemaker, Mrs. Bloom was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. She also was a member of Daughters of America and had resided in Tiffin most of her life.
The Rev. William H. Smith will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church, St. Francis Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
John Joseph Howbert
Former Fostoria resident
John Joseph Howbert, 57, of 3800 Galt Ocean Drive, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., died at 8:33 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, in Ft. Lauderdale.
He was born in Findlay Dec. 14, 1940, to the late Harry and Agnes (Kelly) Howbert. His former wife, Marguerite Frisch, survives.
Survivors also include: a daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Stevens of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a son, Joseph Robert Howbert of Cottonwood, Calif.; a brother, DanielHowbert of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy Cech of Chino Hills, Calif.
A retired DeLorean Motor Co. employee, Mr. Howbert graduated in 1958 from St. Wendelin High School and in 1962 from Xavier University, Cincinnati.
He was a former member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and the University Club, Jacksonville, Fla.
Memorial services in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Culver City, Calif., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
