Janet B. Lichtle
38-year Ohio Bell employee

Janet B. Lichtle, 76, of 2010 Bluestone, Findlay, died in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay, at 5:16 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998.

She was born in Toledo April 9, 1922, to Frank and Hazel (Bowman) Pine. On April 28, 1943, she married Russell J. Lichtle. He died March 17, 1992.

Survivors include: a son, R. Lee Lichtle of Fostoria; two brothers, Harold R. Beltz of Findlay and Richard H. Beltz of St. Marys, Ohio; and three sisters, Mrs. John (Moleta) Mitchell and Ms. LaVerne M. Beltz, both of Findlay, and Mrs. Jeanette Montooth of Springfield, Ill.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Dr. Leslie Anderson and Warren E. Beltz.

The former owner of Long's Motel, Mrs. Lichtle, retired in 1979 as an estimate assigner from the Ohio Bell Telephone Co., where she had been employed for 38 years.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Findlay.

A funeral Mass in St. Michael's Catholic Church East, Findlay, will be 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

There will be no visitation. The Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Lung Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Richard Lee Baumgardner
Retired U.S. Army master sergeant

Richard Lee Baumgardner, 55, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at his residence at 686 S. Sandusky St.

He was born in Tiffin, Jan. 3, 1943, to Gaylord M. and Helen (Omlor) Baumgardner. His mother survives in Tiffin. His wife, Moricha Kim, also survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Robert Baumgardner of Toledo and William Baumgardner of Aberdeen, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Mario (Sherry) Guzman of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Jill Baumgardner of Tiffin and Judy Baumgardner of Scotts Valley, Calif.

His father is deceased.

Mr. Baumgardner retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service, having served in Germany, Korea, Japan, Iran and the United States.

A 1961 graduate of Calvert High School, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the American Legion.

The Rev. Frank Murd will be the celebrant at the 3 p.m. Wednesday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veteran's Council.

Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, with a Parish Wake service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church or Calvert Foundation.

Elsie R. Evans
Retired Big Wheel cashier

Former Clyde resident, Elsie R. Evans, 81, of West Main Street, Bellevue, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Step Rock, Ark., to William and Bertie (Brown) Coke, and moved to the Clyde area in 1950. On Sept. 11, 1947, she married Bedford L. Evans. He preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1964.

Surviving are: three sons, Norman Pratt of Denver, Ind., Glenn Pratt of Arkansas and Jerry Evans of Clyde; five daughters, Mrs. Samuel (Laveda) Frank of Bellevue, Mrs. Gary (Sherry) Scott of Mt. Gilead, Mrs. Neil (Nancy) Meggitt of Bellevue, Mrs. Matthew (Anita Dale) Cullen of Carlisle, Pa. and Mrs. Robert (Julie) Schell of Fremont; a brother, Carlton Coke of Judsonia, Ark.; 30 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Carroll Wayne Pratt; a daughter, Doris Verlene Case; two brothers, Luther and William Ardell Coke; and an infant sister.

Mrs. Evans, a member of the First Missionary Church, Clyde, and its Women's Missions Fellowship, retired as a cashier Dec. 31, 1992, from the former Big Wheel in Fremont, after 30 years of employment.

Services in the First Missionary Church, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Richard Studebaker officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery.

Visitation at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the church or for Alzheimer's Research.

Francis P. 'Skippy' Factor
Republic resident

Francis P. (Skippy) Factor, 94, of Republic, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at her home following a sudden illness. Arrangements are pending at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, Bloomville.

Richard 'Mac' McConahay
Brother of Tiffin resident

Richard "Mac" McConahay, 46, of St. Peters, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in St. John's Mercy Medical Center, Creve Coeur, Mo.

He was born in Berea, Dec. 31, 1951, to David and Harriett McConahay, who survive in Marblehead.

Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Dennis (Jan) Affholder and a niece, Kendell Lee Affholder, both of Tiffin.

A U.S. Navy veteran, having served 1971-75, Mr. McConahay was employed with Trans World Airlines (TWA) in St. Louis, Mo. for 19 years.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 in Sackett cemetery, Danbury Township, with the Rev. W. Neil Roller, of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Gerner-Wolf-Kopchak Funeral Home, Port Clinton, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the National Celiac Spruce Association.

Arlen A. Hickle
Fostoria resident's brother

Word has been received of the death of Arlen A. Hickle, 45, of Dalton, Ga., who died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, in Murray County, Ga.

He was born July 9, 1953 in Fremont to Leroy and Bonnie (Ottney) Hickle. His father survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Ryan and Shawn, both of Fremont; five brothers, Leroy III, Jeff, Scott and Bruce Hickle, all of Fostoria and Doyle Hickle of Dalton; four sisters, Linda Fox, Debbie Gilliam, Connie Twiss and Lori Hickle, all of Fostoria; and nieces and nephews.

His mother and a brother, Todd Hickle, are deceased.

Mr. Hickle was a U.S. Army veteran.

Local services will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday in the Faith Tabernacle, Summet Street, Fostoria, with Pastor Bruce Goodwin officiating.

John Edwin 'Ed' Balliett
Father of Tiffin residents

John Edwin "Ed" Balliett, 75, of 227 E. Walnut St., Galion, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Galion Community Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Galion, to John C. and Della (Perkins) Balliett.

Surviving are four sons, Gerald and Paul Balliett, both of Tiffin, and David and Robert Balliett, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Peggy Balliett, also of St. Petersburg; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Vernon Balliett; a brother, Richard Balliett; and a granddaughter, are deceased.

Mr. Balliett, a member of Galion First Church of the Nazarene, was employed as a truck driver for 10 years with Consolidated Freightways and John Eldred. He later worked for F.G. Egner, C.R. & M and then Foxy's Tire Center as a mechanic, retiring in 1985.

Services are 11 a.m. today, in the Richardson-Davis Funeral Home, Galion, with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Galion.

Visitation at the funeral home is 10-11 a.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Joseph M. Phillips
Retired self-employed farmer

Joseph M. Phillips, 83, of 6416 SR 162, Attica, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in the Bradley Bay Health Center, Bay Village, following a long illness.

He was born in Norwich Township, May 22, 1915, to Frank and Mary (Ruffing) Phillips. On Nov. 6, 1941, he married Mabel Eberly. She preceded him in death Sept. 28, 1990.

Suvivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Philip (Mary Jo) Flenner of Jackson, Mich. and Mrs. Brad (Ruth Anne) Booher of Avon Lake; and five grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Laura Phillips and Alma Cotner; and three brothers, Edwin, Walter and Florentine Phillips.

Mr. Phillips, who attended Bismark School and Attica High School, resided at and operated the farm, which was his birthplace, for most of his life.

A life-long member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, rural Bellevue, he also was a musician, singing and playing guitar in various bands providing music for many weddings, parties and family celebrations.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Sebastian Catholic Church, with burial following in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Bellevue, where a Christian Wake service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Casimir "Al" Krall
Tiffin resident's father

Casimir "Al" Krall, 87, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at his residence in Tekonsha, Mich.

He was born in Toledo, July 5, 1911, to Anthony and Frances (Tomas) Krall. His wife, Anna Marie (Wells) Krall, whom he married Aug. 28, 1937, in Toledo, survives. They had celebrated their 61th wedding anniversary at their home last Friday.

Other survivors include: two sons, Earl Krall of Coldwater, Mich. and Carl Krall of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Ron (Carol) Harner of Tiffin and Mary Lee Payne of Bronson, Mich.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ray, Chester, Jerry and Edwin Krall; and five sisters, Irene Gray, Sophie Swartz, Mrs. Carl (Pat) Kowalski, Bea Smigielski and Mrs. Ron (Shirley) Sabin.

A brother, Anthony Krall; and three sisters, Annette Krall, Rose Schwind and Henrietta "Cookie" Dugan, are deceased.

Mr. Krall, who served in the Marine Reserves, worked as a machinist at Kent-Owens Machine Co during World War II. In 1947, he and his wife moved to the Bronson, Mich. area where they ran Krall's Resort on Gilead Lake. He also was in business with Cities Service and Standard Oil Company, where he drove a fuel truck for nearly 20 years as well as running a farm and Krall's Hilltop Orchard.

A member of the Bronson Knights of Columbus and St. Charles Catholic Church, he served as Justice of the Peace in East Gilead Township and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. In 1971 he moved to Tekonsha, where he retired from the Coldwater Regional Center in 1976, after 10 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, football and traveling.

Services will be noon Friday in St. Charles Catholic Church, Coldwater, with cremation following.

Visitation at the Dutcher Funeral Home, Coldwater, will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, where the Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m. Visitation at the funeral home also will 10 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the family to be divided among his favorite charities.

Doris Yvonne (Fields) Ashley
Retired Ashley's Anchor owner

Doris Yvonne (Fields) Ashley, 71, of 725 Buckley St., Fostoria, died at 10:22 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born in Jellico, Tenn., Dec. 11, 1926, to James and Margaret (Miller) Fields. She first married Joseph C. Siler, Dec. 24, 1945, in Middlesboro, Ky., and they were divorced. He survives in Defiance. Her second husband, Hobart J. Ashley, whom she married Oct. 23, 1949, in Neon, Ky. survives in Holland, Oh. They also were divorced.

Survivors also include: a son, John Ashley of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Pamela) Copeland of Defiance, Mrs. Rocky (Candi) Baker and Mrs. Randy (Tanya) Ferguson, both of Fostoria; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild; four brothers, Harry Fields of Hamilton, Virgil and Patrick Fields, both of Monroe, Mich. and Francis Fields of Sandusky; and two sisters, Mrs. Dena Hill ot Tucson, Ariz. and Mrs. Barbara Shurtz of Holland.

Mrs. Ashley owned Ashley's Anchor in Fostoria, retiring in 1993.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, with the Rev. Allen Minton officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Dillon Road Baptist Church.

Lynn E. Dye
Sister of Tiffin resident

Lynn E. Dye, 44, of 509 Conner Drive, Fremont, died in Fremont Memorial Hospital at 8:21 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 1998.

She was born in Upper Sandusky, May 13, 1954, to Harold T. and Sally (Ramsower) Dye. Her mother survives in Fremont.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Gary (Leslie) Plock of rural Tiffin; a nephew and two great-nephews; and an uncle, Ned Ramsower of McCutchenville.

Her father is deceased.

Miss Dye graduated in 1972 from Fremont Ross High School.

Private family graveside services will be in Bethel cemetery, McCutchenville.

There will be no visitation, but the family will receive relatives and friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13 at the home of Sally Dye, 509 Conner Drive, Fremont.

The Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Phillips
Rural Attica resident

Joseph Phillips, 83, of 6416 SR 162, Attica, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in the Bradley Road Nursing Home, Bay Village. Arrangements are pending at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Donald Duane Hill
Burson-Hill Inc. owner/operator

Donald Duane Hill, 68, died at 6:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at his home at 239 Glenn Ave., Carey.

He was born in Carey, April 15, 1930, to the late Lloyd E. and Venda A. (Wentling) Hill. On June 25, 1949, in The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolaton Catholic Church, Carey, he married Irma A. Niederkohr. She survives.

Other survivors include: eight children, Mrs. Deborah D. Nickelson of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Ronald (Janet) Pieracini of Lander, Wyo., Donald C. "Chip" Hill of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Danny (Carmen) Coppler, Mrs. Michael (Brenda) Eingle, Ms. Lynnette A. Hill and Curtis N. Hill, all of Carey and Mrs. Larry (Colleen) Baer of McComb; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Wayne Hill of Union and Jan. L. Hill of McComb; and two sisters, Mrs. Victor (Elsie) Dick of Fremont and Mrs. Harold (Sandra) Coppler of Carey.

A brother, Jon Hill; and three sisters, Betty J. Gibson, June "Judy" Shumaker and an infant, Dorothy Lou Hill, also are deceased.

Mr. Hill, co-owner/operator of Burson-Hill Inc. for 33 years, retired from Guardian Industries in 1992.

A 1948 graduate of Carey High School, he was a member of The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, where he served two terms as officer and councilman and was a past member of the men's choir and Knights of Columbus Council 2050.

He was a former member of the Carey Business Association, Carey Conservation Club, Carey Jaycees and Knights of Columbus Council 1925, where he was a former officer.

Mr. Hill, who enjoyed woodworking and carving, gardening, fishing, golfing, bowling and mushroom hunting, also had served as a Cub Scout master, committee chairman and Webelos leader of Cub Scout Pack 51.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, in The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter Damian Massengill as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, is 2-9 p.m. today, where Rosary devotion services, led by the Rosary Altar Society, will be at 2 p.m. and a vigil service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, Our Lady of Consolation School or the Coronary Care Unit of Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
