Martha Lucille "Muggs" Lang, 83, formerly of 686 S. Sandusky St., Lot 27, died at 8:41 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at her daughter's home.
Born June 10, 1915, in Tiffin, to Howard A. and Mary (Cory) Lutz, she married
William E. Lang Sr. Oct. 20, 1934, in Tiffin. He died June 5, 1996.
Surviving are a son, William E. Lang Jr. of Sidney; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Marcille) Straub of McCutchenville; two brothers, Howard Lutz of Sandusky and William Lutz of Old Fort; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Dorothy Jean) Tannenbaum of Tiffin; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Howard Cory "Joe" Lang; and two sisters, Betty Nesselhauf and Kathryn Bland, also are deceased.
Mrs. Lang, a graduate of Columbian High School, was a homemaker and retired as a cashier from Marvin's Delicatessen, where she had been employed for 26 years.
A member of the Methodist faith, she also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, DAV Auxiliary, Daughters of America and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Services in Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. John D. Teeters officiating. Interment will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where VFW Auxiliary services will be at 11:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, the VFW Auxiliary or the donor's choice.
Lucy Ray
Carey homemaker
Lucy Ray, 74, of 354 Grove St., Carey, died in the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay, at 8:21 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998.
She was born in McGoffin County, Ky., Nov. 9, 1923, to Linden and Gracie (Craft) Ray. She had never married
.
Survivors include: 32 nieces and nephews; eight brothers and sisters, Carl Ray of Degraff, Mrs. James (Thelma) Caudill of Vanlue, Manuel Ray, Mrs. Robert (Delma) Baldwin, Mrs. Leonard (Ethel) Lasley, Mrs. Nelson (Geanie) Dick, Mrs. Lola LeMaster and Mrs.Jessie Tharp, all of Carey.
Two brothers, Hoker and Edgar Ray; and two sisters, Dessie Marshall and Minnie Collins, are deceased.
Miss Ray, a homemaker, was affiliated with Stoney Ridge United Baptist Church, rural Carey.
Services in Stoney Ridge United Baptist Church, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, with Elder Douglas Ward and Elder Paul Blair as co-officiants. Burial will be in Hickory Grove cemetery, Vanlue.
Visitation at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, is 2-9 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Katherine L. Stalnaker
Clyde homemaker/former Whirlpool employee
Katherine L. Stalnaker, 73, of Mulberry Street, Clyde, died in Fremont Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998.
She was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Barbour County, W.Va., to Charles and Ida (Posten) Lantz. On Aug. 16, 1947, she married
Oliver Junior Stalnaker. He died Aug. 13, 1985.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary Stalnaker of Clyde and Randy Stalnaker of Bellevue; three daughters, Mrs. James (Celesta) Bingaman, Mrs. Fred (Gloria) Harrah and Mrs. Brian (Nancy) Guhn, all of Clyde; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The last of her family, Mrs. Stalnaker was a homemaker and also had been employed at Whirlpool and the WT Grant Store.
A member of Clyde Baptist Church, she received her education in West Virginia .
The Rev. Dee Whaley will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Saturday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be private.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Ruth S. Fowler
Former Republic school teacher
Ruth S. Fowler, 89, of Vine Street, Clyde, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in the Bellevue Hospital.
She was born June 24, 1909, in York Township, Sandusky County, to Francis "Frank" and Valiera (Bowers) Mellen. Her husband, Herman Fowler, whom she married
June 24, 1936, died March 1, 1978.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Carol) Hintz of Stanford, Calif., and Mrs. Thomas (Lynda) Wilbert of Clyde; a sister, Marian Mellen of Clyde; a brother, Robert Mellen of Castalia; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Mellen, and two infant brothers.
Mrs. Fowler, a 1927 Clyde High School graduate and a 1935 Bowling Green State University graduate, was a homemaker and had been employed as a teacher in the Republic Schools.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she had been the former chairman of church dinners for many years; the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayflower Society and the former 20th Century Club and Kings Daughters.
A Camp Fire leader for 25 years, she served as secretary of the Camp Fire Council Post; served as past president of the Lakeside Federation; and served as past secretary of the Community Council, where she also was on the board.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Alex McLean officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to Clyde Public Library.

A Memorial Mass for Patricia A. Hager, 67, of 150 Railroad St., who died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:15 a.m.

Ruth D. Fillhart, 85, of 25 Christopher Drive, Fostoria, died at 2:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
She was born in Florida, Ohio, March 10, 1913, to William and Almeda (Holmes) Stykemain. Her husband of 63 years, Harry C. Fillhart, whom she married
Oct. 4, 1931, in Fostoria, preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1995.
Surviving are: a son, Wilbur C. Fillhart of Fostoria; three daughters, Mrs. Sheridan (Clara) Zimmerman and Mrs. David (Patricia) Martin, both of Fostoria, and Mrs. Philip (Barbara) Chamberlain of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Emmaline Stykemain of Toledo and Mrs. Henry (Erma) Eggers of Napoleon; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert and Ortis Stykemain; and three sisters, Alta Waltermeyer, Fernelia Copeland and Vera Lee.
A homemaker, Mrs. Fillhart was a former member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.
Services in St. Wendelin Catholic Church will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with interment in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 6-9 p.m. Monday with a Wake service at 8:30 p.m.
Robert E. 'Red' Hoyda
Retired electrician
Robert E. "Red" Hoyda, 71, 19 Cherry St., died at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Lucas County, Toledo, where he had been a patient for three days.
He was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Tiffin, to Joseph and Mamie (Lynch) Hoyda. On Dec. 21, 1954, in Washington, D.C., he married
Lorraine Diegelmann. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Christopher R. and Benjamin L. Hoyda, both of Tiffin; five grandchildren; a brother, Richard Hoyda of Tiffin; and three sisters, Opal Sendelbach, Margaret Hoyda and Mrs. Robert Bruce Miller, all of Tiffin.
A daughter, Leslie Faye Hoyda, died in 1990; and two brothers, John "Jack" and Joe Hoyda, are also deceased.
Mr. Hoyda, who served in the U.S. Navy for 16 years during World War II, attaining the rank of First Class Petty Officer, retired from the Eaton Corp. in Fremont, where he was employed as an electrician.
A lifetime Tiffin resident and an avid bowler, he was a lifetime member of the American Bowling Congress, DAV Post 34 of Tiffin and Green Springs VFW Post; and a member of Tiffin Moose Lodge 846 and the AMVETS.
Mr. Hoyda, also enjoyed golf and fishing and had attended Columbian High School.
The Rev. William J. Rose will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Monday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery, where the United Veterans Council will conduct military graveside services.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-5 p.m. today and one half hour before the service on Monday.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Bernice Anna Mizen
Homemaker/former Ballreich's employee
Bernice Anna Mizen, 85, 58 Maplewood Ave., died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where she had been a patient for eight days.
She was born in Tiffin, Jan. 27, 1913, the daughter of Howard Elmer and Bertha (Brinkman) Santmire. Her husband, Charles Thomas Mizen, whom she married
Oct. 12, 1933, in Tiffin, died in 1989.
Survivors include: a son, Charles S. Mizen of Bascom; a daughter, Charlene A. Dillinger of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen M. Wilson of Walla Walla, Wash.
A grandson is deceased.
Mrs. Mizen, a homemaker, also was a former employee and tour guide at Ballreich's Potato Chips.
A member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the Tiffin Mother's Club, she was a Columbian High School graduate and attended Tiffin Business University.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Culp officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 7-9 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
Alice L. Miller
Retired postal clerk
Alice L. Miller, 79, formerly of 129 High St., New London, Ohio, and Green Springs, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in the IHS Firelands Nursing Center, Huron County, New London.
She was born in Printer, Ky. (formerly called Blue Moon, Ky.), March 14, 1919, to Alex and Martha (Parsons) Meade. Her first husband, Benny Parsons, died April 2, 1966, and her second husband, Maynard Miller, died Sept. 1, 1983.
Surviving are: a step-son, Rick Ferguson of Tiffin; a step-daughter, Julie Ferguson of Clyde; a sister, Mrs. Elzie (Nora) Adkins of Printer, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were five brothers, Ben, Charlie, Perry, Ted and Lawrence Meade.
A member of the Church of Christ, New London, Mrs. Miller retired as a postal clerk from the Blue Moon, Ky., Post Office.
Services in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Mrs. Miller's nephew, Pastor Charles Meade, officiating. Interment will be in Butternut Ridge cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Ashland County.
Mabel F. Phillips
Union Carbide retiree
Mabel F. Phillips, 91, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, where she resided.
She was born in Fostoria, Feb. 8, 1907, to Harry Wilbur and Eva (Graves) Lambright. She first married
Ted Noel, Aug. 8, 1940, in Maryland and he preceded her in death in 1959. On Dec. 2, 1961, in Bloomville, she married
her second husband, William E. Phillips. He survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: a step-son, William C. Phillips of Patriot, Ohio; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Marlene Morel of Fort Myers, Fla.
Also preceding her in death were a step-son, Don Olin; and two brothers, George and Jessie Lambright.
Mrs. Phillips retired in 1968 from the Union Carbide, Fostoria, after 45 years of employment as a technician's assistant.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Elks Lodge 935, both of Fostoria, and the Denderah, Toledo.
The Rev. R. Edson Reed will be the officiant at the 2:30 p.m. Tuesday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Marvin E. Cooper Sr.
Fostoria resident
Marvin E. Cooper Sr., 65, 935 Buckley St., Fostoria, died at 10:13 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at the Fostoria Community Hospital. He was born Nov. 17, 1932, to George R. and Ada I. (Fell) Cooper, both deceased. On June 2, 1953, he married
Virginia M. Naro, and she survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Marvin E. Cooper Jr., and Harold A. Cooper, both of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Linda L.) Swartz of Fostoria; a brother, Eldon L. Cooper of Springfield, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth R. and Ronald Cooper, and a sister, Betty Searles.
Mr. Cooper was a 1950 graduate of Fostoria High School and a member of the Dillon Road Baptist Church of Fostoria. He retired in 1988 after 10 years as a shipping and receiving clerk for Standard Fuse, formerly of Fostoria. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.
The Rev. Allen W. Minton will officiate the 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, services at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Arcadia.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at the funeral home.
