Grace M. Edwards
Fremont News Messenger employee

Grace M. Edwards, 75, of N. CR 232, Fremont, died in Fremont Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998.

She was born July 21, 1923, in Townsend Township, Sandusky County, to James D. and Grace M. (Ginnever) Upton. On June 16, 1945, she married Carl A. Edwards. He preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1992.

Survivors include: two sons, James R. Edwards of Vickery and Jerald Edwards of Fremont; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Jayne) Vollmar of Fremont and Mrs. Todd (Jeanette) Blausey of Bettsville; a sister, Lucille Schiets of Ida, Mich.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Daryl and James Upton; and a sister, Edie Alspaugh.

Mrs. Edwards, a 1941 Townsend High School graduate, had been employed as a delivery lady for the Fremont News Messenger, retiring in 1985 after 10 years of service.

A lifetime Fremont/Clyde area resident, she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Fremont; the Clyde Moose and Eagles and the Fremont VFW Auxiliary.

Services in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, where Eagles services will be at 6 p.m. and VFW Auxiliary services at 7:15 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the 4-H Endowment Fund-Sandusky County, 2000 Countryside Drive, Fremont, OH 43420.

Harmony Renee Hoffbauer
Infant daughter

Harmony Renee Hoffbauer, 1 1/2-month-old daughter of Tiffany Hoffbauer, of 329 McDougal St., Fostoria, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born Aug. 16, 1998, in Fostoria.

Survivors include her mother; maternal grandparents, Gene Hoffbauer, Charlotte Wickiser, Shirley Moore and Daniel Bennett, all of Fostoria; and great-grandparents, Mary Lou Hoffbauer of Fostoria and Mr. and Mrs. James Bennett I of Carey.

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Thursday, in Memory Gardens Chapel, near Arcadia, where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Paul Myers will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

The Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Jeannette McKillip
Former beautician/avid bowler

Jeannette McKillip, 89, formerly of the Kiwanis Manor, West Market Street, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, in St. Francis Home, where she resided.

She was born in Tiffin Dec. 12, 1908, to Charles and Grace (Burrier) Adkins. Her husband, Willard M. McKillip, whom she married Jan. 21, 1926, in Tiffin, died Sept. 28, 1988.

Surviving are: two sons, Merle E. McKillip of Tiffin and Thomas W. McKillip of Ellicott City, Md.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Dolores McKillip; a brother, Elvin Adkins; and a sister, BernitaYoung, also are deceased.

Mrs. McKillip, a beautician at Jeannette's Beauty Shop, was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

An avid bowler, she also was a member of Clinton Women's Golf League, the Y Wives, where she served as past president, and the Pack-N-Go Camping Club.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Ferne officiating. Burial services in Fairmont cemetery will be private.

There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Vera V. Laux
Rural Tiffin homemaker

Vera V. Laux, 87, 5971 E. TR 138, died at 6:08 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born in Adams Township, Seneca County, Feb. 3, 1911, to Oliver and Kundagunda (Widmer) Young. On Oct. 28, 1930, in Tiffin, she married Delbert L. Laux. He preceded her in death Feb. 3, 1990.

Survivors include: three daughters, Betty J. Laux and Mrs. John (Susan) Crumrine, both of the Tiffin area and Mrs. LeRoy (Lynda) Humbert of rural Genoa; and four grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were: four brothers, Noah, Arnold, Joseph and Francis Young; and seven sisters, Matilda Reinhart, Clara, Jane and Rosie Pauline Young, Nellie Sherman, Olepha Melroy and Helen Schock.

A homemaker and lifetime resident of Seneca County, Mrs. Laux was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

The Rev. William Smith will be the officiant at the 3 p.m. Saturday memorial service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Friends may call one hour before the memorial service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church, Seneca County Humane Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Elizabeth Ann Best
Mother of Tiffin resident/Fostoria native

Word has been received of the death of Elizabeth Ann Best, 63, who died at 9:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nev., where she had lived for the last 22 years.

She was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Fostoria, to the late Tony and Betty (Brookman) Valenti. On April 25, 1957, she married Robert Harry Best, who is deceased.

Surviving are a daughter, Renee' of Las Vegas; two sons, Bobby of Las Vegas and Richard of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry of Arizona and Rikki of Fostoria; and four sisters, Tony "Punkie" of California, Vikki "Dobi" of Lima, Diane of Fostoria and Debi of Findlay.

Also preceding her in death was an infant daughter, Bobbi Jo.

A memorial service was held at Desert Springs in Las Vegas.

Her ashes will be buried in Rosecran cemetery, San Diego, California, with her husband's ashes, at their infant daughter's grave.

Anthony J. Laudenslager
Brother of Tiffin residents

Anthony J. "Tony" Laudenslager, 34, of 203 N. Lake St., Carey, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

He was born in Findlay Nov. 23, 1963, to Charles W. Sr. and Imogene K. (Kromer) Laudenslager. His mother survives in Carey. He had been married to Christine Weaver and they were divorced.

Survivors also include: a daughter, Lacey S. Laudenslager of Carey; a special friend, Phyllis Bercaw of Fostoria; two brothers, Charles Laudenslager Jr. of Upper Sandusky and Chris Laudenslager of Tiffin; and five sisters, Clair McCrory and Mrs. William (Carla) Siebenaller, both of Tiffin, Susan Laudenslager of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Mrs. James (Rebecca) Campanella of Lompoc, Calif., and Patti Kessler of New Riegel.

His father is deceased.

A 1984 Carey High School graduate, Mr. Laudenslager was employed by North Coast Custom Molding in Carey. Prior to that he had worked at InterMetro in Fostoria.

He was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Carey.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter Damian Massengill as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, where a Scripture service will be at 8:30.

Memorials may be made to the Anthony J. Laudenslager Memorial Fund, in care of Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43318-1169.

JoAnne Echelbarger
Homemaker/avid bridge player

JoAnne Echelbarger, 70, of Westhaven Drive, Fostoria, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998.

She was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Fostoria, to W.A. "Pat" and Cecyle (Hiser) O'Brien. Her husband, Fred R. Echelbarger, whom she married Aug. 18, 1946, in Fostoria, survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two sons, Michael Echelbarger of West Millgrove and Patrick Echelbarger of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a daughter, Kristy Echelbarger of Findlay; a sister, Janet Jones of Toledo; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Echelbarger, a homemaker, was a member of the Fostoria Country Club and had served as a former Girl Scout leader.

An avid bridge player, playing in several area bridge clubs, she loved gardening.

She was a 1945 graduate of Fostoria High School and had attended Bowling Green State University.

The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Fostoria Home Health Care or Fostoria Habitat for Humanity.

Mabel E. Lawrence
Former Bloomville resident

Mabel E. Lawrence, 70, formerly of rural Bloomville and rural Fostoria, died at 6:10, Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, 1998, in Florida Hospital, Kissimmee, Florida. She was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Eden Twp., Seneca County, to Calvin and Hattie (Bartholomew) Ziegler. On June 28, 1969, she married Orin James Lawrence; he survives in Kissimmee, FL.

Other survivors include: a sister, Lois Pippert of rural Melmore; two brothers, George Ziegler of rural Sycamore, and Arthur Ziegler of rural Melmore; four step-children, Richard and Orin J. Lawrence, and Linda J. Smith of Florida, and Ida Bergans of Alabama; nine step-grandchildren; and nine step-great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Alice Bales Crum.

Mrs. Lawrence was a 1946 graduate of Melmore High School and a 1957 graduate of Schauffler College, Cleveland. She had done volunteer work at Back Bay Mission, Biloxi, MS, and at Belle Glade, FL. She had been employed by the Huron County and Crawford County Welfare Departments. She was most recently a homemaker.

The Rev. Dr. Frank J. Allen, Jr. will conduct a Memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Kissimmee, FL, on Sept. 30, 1998 at 2 p.m.

The Conrad Thompson Funeral Home in Kissimmee is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church, or to the donor's choice.

Dick R. Edmond
A-T Lifestyle editor

Dick R. Edmond, 59, 45 Cherry St., died at 12:08 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born in Mansfield June 11, 1939, to Ray C. and Lois (McCue) Edmond. His mother survives. On Sept. 2, 1961, in Mansfield, he married Judith K. Distl. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Tim Edmond of Rossford, Ted Edmond of Akron and Todd Edmond of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Kyle and Allison; a brother, Fred of Cleveland; and a sister, Bonnie of Mansfield.

Preceding him in death were his father and a sister, Shirley.

The current lifestyle editor at The Advertiser-Tribune, Mr. Edmond was the former sports editor for the Bucyrus Telegraph Forum and The A-T for a total of 21 years.

He also was sports information director at Heidelberg College for nine years.

A veteran of the Air National Guard, he was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Optimist Club, which he had served as president; Tiffin Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge: Zenobia Shrine and Hornets; the Moose Lodge, AMVETS, COSIDA and the Midland Athletic League.

Mr. Edmond also was the former president of the Sports Writers of Ohio and voted for the Heisman Trophy as a member of the Downtown Athletic Club.

The Rev. Jan Kucera will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, where Tiffin Lions Club services will be at 6:30.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Garfield Chaney
Retired coal mine worker

Garfield Chaney, 81, died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at his home at 97 Liberty St.

He was born in Pikeville, Ky., May 17, 1917, to John C. and Alice (Bickmare) Chaney. His wife, Jettie Chaney, whom he married May 15, 1937, in Pikeville, is deceased.

Survivors include: two sons, James Chaney of Kentucky and Clyde Chaney of Lima; two daughters, Jerline Rognstad of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Marie Dicken of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Corbit Chaney of Norfolk, Va.

Four brothers, Clarence, Tommy, Walter and Warren Chaney; and three sisters, Pricey Holloway, Zelphia and Florence Chaney, are also deceased.

Mr. Chaney, a retired coal mine worker, was a member of Chloe Creek Baptist Church. He was a former resident of Pikeville, Ky.

Services will be Saturday in the church located in Campbell cemetery, Chloe Creek, Ky., with the Rev. Robert Justice officiating. Burial will be in Campbell cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Turner Engle Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Grant G. Fuller
National Machinery retiree/Jr. HomeKid

Grant G. Fuller, 87, of 1000 Plaza St., Findlay, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Karrington of Findlay, Hancock County, Findlay, where he had resided for a month.

He was born in Cincinnati Feb. 16, 1911, to Granville and Pearl (Jacobs) Fuller. His first wife, Dorothea Fuller, whom he married in 1931, died Sept. 1, 1977. He married Lillian Ford in 1980. She survives in Findlay.

Other survivors include: four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Dolores) Goetz of Bradenton, Fla., Mrs. Jerry (Jean) Musser of Tucson, Ariz., and Darlene and Roberta Fuller, both of San Francisco, Calif.; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Fuller of Ravenna.

Mr. Fuller, who was raised at the Junior Order Home and lived most of his life in Tiffin, retired from the National Machinery in 1962.

A graduate of the Junior Home School, he was a member of the National Quarter Century Club, Tiffin Moose Lodge and the Senior Citizens of Findlay.

Services in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home will be 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery at a later date.

Visitation at the funeral home is 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
