Widowed again in 1996, she moved to Santa Fe, N.M., to be near son John and partner David L. Bass. She became a magnet attracting many friends and family to New Mexico for their first visits and often said "People back in Ohio just couldn't imagine how beautiful it is here." She loved New Mexico sunsets, mashed potatoes, Jack Russell terriers, and a good manicure. She gloried in visits from loved ones as well as a special friendship with Ron Bayford, a La Residencia neighbor who enriched her life with his devoted affection. She loved to travel with John, a Presbyterian minister who "preached around" to Chimayo, Truchas, Albuquerque, Taos, Santa Fe, and Raton.
