Bernard H. Falter
Bernard H. Falter, 90, of East Main Street, New Washington, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Willard Mercy Hospital. He was born Oct. 8, 1912, in Bloom Township, Ohio, and moved to New Washington in 1986. He retired from farming that he did at his home and also retired from R.R. Donnelley Co. in Willard.
He was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington. He was formerly the organist at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church where he was a former member. He graduated from Bloomville High School.
He is survived by his wife, Mary A. (Holmer) Falter, whom he married
Nov. 24, 1937; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary A. Siesel of New Washington and Rita and Frank Depinet of Sun City Center, Fla.; daughter-in-law and spouse, Carolyn (Falter) and Joe Jolliff of Upper Sandusky; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence A. and Agnes (Shank) Falter; a son, Vincent B. Falter; and a son-in-law James C. Siesel.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington. The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington with the Rev. Robert Dendinger officiating. Burial will be at the St. Bernard Catholic cemetery in New Washington.
Memorials may be made to the St. Bernard School Endowment Fund.
Florence Calmes-Foltz
Florence P. Calmes-Foltz, 91, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in the Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, where she resided.
She was born June 16, 1911, in Fostoria, to Joseph and Mathilda (Kirian) Welly. In 1931, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Bascom, she married
Nicholas D. Calmes. He died June 27, 1945. She later Leo D. Foltz at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, in 1957. He died July 30, 1972.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Geraldine M.) Brubaker of Fostoria; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Emma Welch of Frederickstown and Mary Doogs of Fostoria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at at 7:30 p.m. and Catholic Ladies of Columbia memorial services at 6 p.m.
Bill A. 'Billy' Martin
Bill A. "Billy" Martin, 20, of 3625 S. TR 113, New Riegel, died at 11 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born Sept. 8, 1982, in Tiffin, to Richard and Penny (Siegle) Martin. They both survive in rural New Riegel.
Other survivors include: a brother, Ryan Martin, at home; a sister, Cecilia Martin, serving in the U.S. Air Force in Diego Garcia; maternal grandparents, Emil and Alice Siegle of New Riegel and paternal grandmother, Jeanette Martin of Bettsville.
A 2001 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, Mr. Martin worked for Meyer Painting in Findlay. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, and Sandusky Local Painters Union 788.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leonard Kistler officiating. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the funeral Mass at the church Monday. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-3113. A wake service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Floyd C. Smith
Floyd C. Smith, of 830 Arrowhead Drive, Bucyrus, district P.E.R.I. representative, died on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003.
There was a memorial service on Feb. 7, 2003, at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus. Full military graveside rites were conducted.
Barbara R. Hampshire
Barbara R. Hampshire, 75, of 101 E. Jefferson St., Republic, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Ruffing Family Care Center of Bloomville.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home in Bloomville.
M. Edward Valentine
M. Edward Valentine, 78, formerly of 6741 S. SR 100, Tiffin, Ohio, died at 6:02 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. He resided two years at the Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.
He was born Feb. 16, 1925, to Irvin and Maggie (Bradley) Valentine, and they are deceased. He married
Phyllis L. Mohr Jan. 1, 1946, and she died April 2, 1987.
Survivors include: a son, Mr. Brad E. Valentine of rural Sycamore; two daughters, Mrs. Vicki Buckley of rural Melmore and Tricia S. Valentine of Melmore; four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and three sisters are deceased.
He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the 2nd Marine Division during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theatre and participated in battles at Saipan, Tinian and Tarawa. He was a member of the Melmore United Methodist Church; a retired house painter; and drove bus for 40 years for the Mohawk School District. He was long-time president of Seneca County Historical Society, a member of the Tiffin Glass Collectors Club, a member of the Seneca County Genealogical Society, former docent of the Seneca County Museum, owner of Valentine Village Museum in Melmore, and past president of the Pleasant View cemetery Association.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, in the Melmore United Methodist Church with the Rev. Howard Huston officiating.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home. The body will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Valentine Village Restoration Fund, Melmore United Methodist Church, Rock Creek Primitive Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
John W. 'Pud' Hunker
John W. "Pud" Hunker, 87, 1363 W. TR 120, Tiffin, died at 2:01 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in St. Francis Health Care Centre, Green Springs, where he had resided for a year.
He was born May 20, 1915, in Tiffin, to the late George and Ida Mae (Michaels) Hunker. His wife, Madeline (Huffman) Hunker, whom he married
Feb. 1, 1936, in Tiffin, died in 1995.
Surviving are: a son, Gene Hunker and wife Paula of Old Fort; a daughter, Peggy Thallman of Tiffin; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Brunner of Fremont and Ruth Clark and Aleta Chadwick, both of Tiffin.
Four brothers and four sisters are deceased.
A lifelong Seneca County resident, Mr. Hunker retired from Plumber and Pipefitters Local 50. He enjoyed playing cards and was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather. He also was very active with the Babe Ruth Baseball League.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin, with the Rev. Gary Halstead officiating. Private burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary School, the 4-H Society or the Seneca County Agricultural Department.
Aletta B. Hinchey
Aletta B. Hinchey, 93, of Palm Desert, Calif., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 in Eisenhower Memorial Hospital, Ranch Mirage, Calif.
She was born Dec. 13, 1909, in Pulaski, Ind., to Ephrem John and Rose Cecilia (Reidelbach) Buchman. Oct. 17, 1931, she married
Russell L. Hinchey in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Survivors include: a brother, Herman Buchman of Ohio; and three step-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a daughter, Diane Evenson, in 1998.
Mrs. Hinchey attended Calvert High School and was a homemaker for 60 years. An honorary member of Womens Club of the Desert in Palm Desert; Golfing Niners honorary member; and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she came to California in 1930.
There are no services planned locally. Inurement will be in Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va. The Fitzhenry Funeral Home Palm Desert Chapel, Phone: (760) 776-8866, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth E. Kocher
Ruth E. Kocher, 85, of Chatfield, died at 9:27 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Bucyrus. She was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Wheeling, W.Va.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Scioto United Methodist Church with burial in the Brokensword cemetery, Brokensword.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, Attica.
Rebecca J. 'Becky' McDonald
Rebecca J. "Becky" McDonald, 56, of S. Main St., Fostoria, died at 9:19 p.m., Feb. 19, 2003, at Hurley Medical Center, Flint, Mich.
Born Sept. 21, 1946, in Tiffin, to Dale and Marilyn (Swing) Kerschner, she married
Gary L. McDonald June 8, 1968, in Tiffin, and he died Dec. 19, 1998.
Surviving are her father, in Tiffin; two sons, Michael D. (Anne) McDonald, Davison, Mich.; and Chad L. McDonald, Ann Arbor, Mich. and his fiancee, Kela Pinto; a daughter, Michele L. McDonald, Fostoria, and her fiance, Andy Holman; two grandchildren, Brandon and Mathew McDonald; a brother, Jerry (Pam) Kerschner, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Carol) Graham, Tiffin, and Cathy Lee, Tiffin.
Her mother preceded her in death.
Mrs. McDonald was a homemaker and was employed at Central Credit Union in Fostoria. She was a graduate of Columbian High School, Tiffin.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Russell Gumm officiating. Interment in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Carl L. Saad
Carl L. Saad, 89, of Brookpark, formerly of Tiffin, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Southwest General Hospital, Middleburg Heights.
He was born June 4, 1913, in Tiffin, to the late Michael and Amelia (Jacobs) Saad. July 15, 1939, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married
Verena Shade, who survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, James (Mary Ann) Saad of Grosse Pointe, Mich., Eugene (Christine) Saad of Clinton Township, Mich., John (Eileen) Saad of Washington, Mich. and Jeffrey (Amy) Saad of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Patricia (Ray) Meterko of North Ridgeville; and eight grandchildren, Suzanne and Martin Saad, Lori and Pam Meterko, Julie and Michael Saad and Patrick and Jennifer Saad.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.
A 1931 graduate of Calvert High School, Mr. Saad retired in 1979 after 30 years at Sterling Grinding Wheel Co. in plant security. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin and the Elks Lodge.
Carl always enjoyed travel around the world and throughout the United States with his wife, Verena, and their children and grandchildren. He and Verena made more than 50 trips to Las Vegas. They also traveled throughout the nation many times from New York and Washington, D.C., to California and everywhere in between. Their international travel included visits to Paris, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Bahamas, Canada, Monte Carlo and the French Riviera and cruises on the Rhine in Germany. He was also interested in politics, world affairs, the stock market and sports throughout his life.
Private family services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. The Rev. Stephen Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Tiffin.
There will be no visitation.
Harry L. Wade
Harry L. Wade, 85, of 348 Liberty St., Fostoria, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Fostoria, to the late Harry L. and Helen S. (Poe) Wade.
He married
Kathryn M. Smith on Oct. 4, 1941, at St. Wendelin's in Fostoria. She survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are: three sons, Thomas H. (Rachel) Wade of Warren, Dennis J. (Lynn) Wade of Kokomo, Ind. and Gary M. (Vicki) Wade of Fostoria; four daughters, Kathleen M. Ward of Lima, Mrs. Joseph (Linda C.) Burkart of Vermilion, Mrs. James (Barbara J.) Perry of Columbus, Ind. and Mrs. Richard (Ellen K.) Reinhart of Oakland Township, Mich.; 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Stan (Margaret) Moyer of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helene Thomas, Betty Richards, and Phyllis Jean Wade.
Mr. Wade retired in 1982, as a purchasing agent with Fostoria Industries after 48 years, beginning his career with"Fostoria Pressed Steel." He was a 1935 graduate of Fostoria High School.
He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria, Third degree Knight of Columbus of Council 1197, American Legion Post 73, all of Fostoria, and former member of the Fostoria Toastmasters.
Mr. Wade was a U.S. Army Air Force World War II veteran - TEC Sergeant Radio/Gunner, who flew 55 missions in a B25, in the African-European campaign.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a..m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where a rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery, where the United Veteran's of Fostoria will conduct military honors.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Wendelin Church and Schools, and Seneca County Community Hospice Care in Tiffin.

Melvin J. Gilbert
Melvin J. Gilbert, 90, of Sandusky CR 183, Clyde, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Vickery, to the late Walter and Grace (Jones) Gilbert. He married
Helen S. (Woleslagel) Gilbert March 25, 1932. She died Aug. 26, 1994.
Surviving are: a son, Dean Gilbert of Clyde; a daughter, Phyllis Reep of Clyde; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Kistler of Clyde and Mary MacDonald of Saline, Mich.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in York Free Chapel cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.
Berlie W. Moore
Berlie W. Moore, 85, formerly of West Lytle Street, Fostoria,, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, where he was a resident.
He was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Tiffin, to the late Paul and Hazel (Loose) Moore. On Dec. 9, 1939, in Angola, Ind., he married
Clara E. Deckard. She died Oct. 2, 1997.
Surviving are three sons, Robert and Paul Moore, both of Fostoria, and James Moore of Columbus; a daughter, Mrs. James (Patricia) Macko of Fostoria; a brother, Charles Thaxton of Fostoria; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Moore and Ray and Claude Thaxton, and a grandchild.
Mr. Moore, a 1935 graduate of Jackson Liberty High School, retired in 1980 as manager at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. with 23 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fostoria; Fostoria Lodge 288 Free and Accepted Masons, Fostoria Chapter, Council and Commandery, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo and Zenobia Temple in Toledo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Alonzo Wise officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home with Masonic memorial services at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Fostoria, or the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.

Lona Patrick
Lona Patrick, 87, formerly of Carey, currently a resident at Wyandot County Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky, died at 12:46 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
She was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Salyersville, Ky., to the late Wootson and Nelis (Risner) Montgomery. She married
Elisha Patrick Jan. 28, 1933. He died March 26, 1990.
Surviving are: a son, Ronald Patrick of rural Carey; four daughters, Juanita Nye of Alvada, Marge Clark of Bentonville, Ark., Julie Peters of Saline, Mich., and Esther Worst of Carey; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, R.B. Montgomery of Upper Sandusky, Gemes Montgomery of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Reece Montgomery and Bill Montgomery, both of Salyersville, Ky.; two sisters, Carrie Ferris of Salyersville, Ky., and Mary Craft Perkins of Manchester, Mich.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mardel M. Leddick
Mardel M. Leddick, 82, of Attica, died Sunday Feb. 23, 2003, at Ruffing Family Center in Bloomville, after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 3, 1920, in Havana, Ohio, to the late Lawrence and Margaret (Miller) Stockmaster.
She married
Curtiss H. Leddick on April 27, 1939 in Attica Baptist Parsonage. He died May 20, 1984.
Surviving are: three sons, Floyd E. (Loretta) Leddick of Attica, Larry L. (Lorenda) Leddick of Hugo, Okla., and Wayne C. (Cheryl) Leddick of Attica; 14 grandchildren, Deb and Denny Hammond of Willard; Donna and Randy Phillips, Michelle and Nathan Enders, Rickie and Torrence Norman, Rusty Leddick, all of Attica; Larry Leddick, Jr. of Siam, Tammie and Bobby Patton of Willard, Kenneth and LeAnn Leddick of Hugo, Okla.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 12 brothers and sisters.
Over the years, Mrs. Leddick has served as a nurse's aide in several area nursing facilities. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Attica; a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America 6708; and the Edith Ayres Rebekah Lodge 900 in Attica.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Attica with the Rev. James Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Attica-Venice cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 West Tiffin, Attica, OH 44807.
