William P. Banks
William P. Banks, 76, of N. Countyline St., Fostoria, died 3:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at his home.
He was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Hamilton, Mo., to William and Rosa (Bratcher) Banks. He married
Barbara E. Carter on Oct. 12, 1953, in Fostoria. She is deceased.
Surviving are: a daughter, Irene Banks of Fostoria; a sister, Rozella Dennis of Toledo; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Banks was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during World War II.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria.
Geraldine Wise
Geraldine Wise, 71, of 401 North Cass St., Wharton, died 2:58 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.
She was born May 14, 1931, in Carey, to the late Bartlett and Myrtle (Stone) Salyer. She married
Francis E. Wise on May 14, 1954, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey. He survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Janey Mae Hecht of Upper Sandusky; two brothers, Jerry Salyer of Carey and Terry Salyer of Panama City, Fla.; and three granchildren.
The funeral will be private. Burial will be in Wharton-Richland Union cemetery in Wharton.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
Donald L. Reamer
Donald L. Reamer, 67, of 33 Ella St., (The Three Amigos House), Tiffin, died 11:48 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born Nov. 12, 1935, in Lancaster, to Florian and Blanche (Bair) Reamer.
Surviving are: a brother, Vic (Elizabeth) Reamer of Tiffin; a sister, Dorothy (Lester) Staib of New Riegel. Many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Florian Reamer in 1962; his mother, Blanche Reamer in 1990; and two brothers, Richard and Lenus Reamer.
Mr. Reamer worked in assembly at the Seneca County Opportunity Center.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel.
The funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at St. Boniface Church with the Rev. Harry Cavanaugh officiating.
Burial will be in St. Boniface cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, OH 44883 (419) 447-3113, where a wake service will be at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca County Re-Ads, or to a charity of the donor's choice in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
Robert C. Matz
Robert C. Matz, 89, of Clyde, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Arbors of Clyde.
He was born May 26, 1913, in Adams Township, Seneca County, to the late Charles and Alvinnie (Evert) Matz. He married
Doris (Kravetz) Matz on Nov. 2, 1946. She survives.
Also surviving is a sister, Evelyn Matz of Clyde.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be in Fireside cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
James R. Hoffmann
James R. Hoffmann, 52, of Mt. Cory, Ohio, died at 11:19 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Mesa General Hospital, Mesa, Ariz.
He was born July 24, 1950, in Tiffin, to the late Thomas W. and Avonelle Joanne (Wolber) Hoffmann. On July 5, 1976, he married
Cheryl Kay Hackworth. She died Jan. 10, 2002.
Surviving are: a son, Thomas J. Hoffmann of Columbus; two daughters, Teresa K. Hoffmann of Lima and Stephanie L. Hoffmann of Fairborn; three brothers, William (Gwen) Hoffmann and Robert Hoffmann, both of Mesa and Michael (Kim) Hoffmann of Taylor, Ariz.; two sisters, Margaret "Peggy" (Bob) Brown of Chandler, Ariz. and Esther (John) Goff of Cottonwood, Ariz; mother and father-in-law, Earl and Bureeda Hackworth of Ada; sisters-in-law, Marcia (Herb) Searson of Perry and Sandy Waggoner of Ada; and brother-in-law, Mike (Alice) Hackworth of Pemberville.
Mr. Hoffmann, a maintenance supervisor at Associated Plastics Corp. of Ada, was a graduate of Mesa High School, Mesa, Ariz. A U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam 1968-1970, James was a Specialist 4th Class in the 101st AirBorne Division. He was a member of Mt. Cory Zion United Methodist Church.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in Mt. Cory Zion United Methodist Church, with Pastor Leland W. Brehm officiating. Burial will be in Hasson cemetery, Jenera.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Phillip H. White
A great prince has fallen on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, Mr. Phillip Hall White, 64, went to be with his Lord at 9:30 p.m. at his residence in Valdese, N.C.
Mr. White was born May 5, 1938, in McDowell County, to Mable Allison Frizsell and the late Willard White. He was employed by the Singer Corp., Valdese General Hospital and most recently was the proprietor of Castle Sports Unlimited of Granite Falls for the past 22 years. He was a cherished member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church of Baton; and was a mentor, friend and an inspiration to all who knew him. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty and Frances White and a grandchild, Christian Bollinger.
He is survived by his mother, Mable Frizsell of Valdese, a son, Tim White and wife Sandra of Hudson and a daughter Jada Cusack and husband Kevin of Waynesville. Also surviving are brothers, Doug White of Hickory and Edward Frizsell of Baton; and sisters Shirley Blanchard, Wanda Marley and Lucy Smith, all of Baton. Grandchildren include: Johnathan and Stephanie Saunders and his best friend Jeff Noftz of Tiffin, Ohio.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Mountain Grove Baptist Church, 2485 Connelly Springs Rd., Granite Falls, NC. Officiating will be the Rev. Clifton Black. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lenoir. Pallbearers will be Reggie Cannon, Terry Brown, Mark White, Scott White, Gary White and Steve Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug White, Edward Frizsell, Jeff Noftz, Kevin Cusack and Johnathan Saunders.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.

David J. Ulmer
David J. Ulmer, 44, of 27 East Pointe Court, Tiffin, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 28, 1958, in Cincinnati to Don W. and Alice C. (Twidale) Ulmer. They survive in Cincinnati.
Other survivors include: a sister, Mrs. Denise and Martin Chambers, and a nephew, Jason Chambers, all of Cincinnati.
He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Heidelberg College and was a high school teacher at Old Fort. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ; Tiffin Eagles; past coach of girls volleyball at Hopewell-Loudon; and taught history and English.
Funeral will be at noon Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in the Fleming Road United Church of Christ, Cincinnati, with the Rev. Patrick McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Vine Street Hill cemetery, Cincinnati.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. today at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Elsie R. Tucker
Elsie R. Tucker, 99, formerly of 1430 Oak Harbor Rd., Fremont, died Saturday evening, Feb. 1, 2003, at Parkview Care Center in Fremont. Elsie would have been 100 on April 7.
She was born in 1903, in New Cumberland, W.Va., to the late Francis L. and Mamie (Williams) Lowers. Elsie first married
Claude Barbor in 1923 and then Stirl Tucker in 1949. Both preceded her.
Surviving Elsie are two daughters, Mrs. Loren (Bernice) Saam of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Haefling of Tiffin. A sister, Mabel Manson of Waynesburg, six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren also survive. Along with her parents and both husbands, Elsie was also preceded by her brother, Earl Lowers.
Elsie was a member of East Side Presbyterian Church and a former member of Fremont Federation of Women and taught Elementary School for many years in the Fremont Public Schools, retiring in 1967.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, from the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Nagel officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.
Memorials may be made to the East Side Presbyterian Church.
Joyce 'Eileen' Yoder
Joyce "Eileen" Yoder, 76, of Kansas, Ohio, died at 3:55 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Fremont Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Amsden to Nash and Laura (Rouser) McHaffie. She married
Robert E. Yoder Sept. 11, 1945, in Fostoria, and he survives in Kansas.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Ellis "Sharon" Barnett of Plymouth, and Mrs. Terry "Eugena" Wellington of Kansas; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Nash and Robert McHaffie of Toledo; and a sister, Thelma Little of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Doyle "Lucky" McHaffie and an infant brother.
She was a 1944 graduate of Jackson Liberty High School; homemaker and former postmistress in Kansas; member of the Kansas United Methodist Church; former Sunday School teacher and Kansas Fireman's Auxiliary member. She was a retired Kansas volunteer firefighter and one of the first women to be trained as a volunteer firefighter. She also was a former leader of the Kansas Majorettes, assisted with the Kansas Sunflowers 4-H Club, and former secretary of the Kansas cemetery. She loved to sew, hunt for mushrooms, watch auto racing and bingo.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Ivan Schwenn officiating. Burial will be in Kansas cemetery near Kansas.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Kansas United Methodist Church or the Kansas Volunteer Fire Department.
Donald G. Hall
Donald G. Hall, 65, of 982 E. TR 201, Tiffin, died at 1:20 a.m., Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at his residence.
He was born July 12, 1937, to Ervin and Edna Adams (Dixson) Hall in Letcher County, Whitesburg, Ky. They are deceased. He married
his beloved wife Betty Y. Mitchell on May 30, 1959, in First Baptist Church, Tiffin, and she is living.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gregory A. Hall and wife Jacqueline of Leo, Ind., Brian D. Hall and wife Angela of Akron; two daughters, Rhonda Y. Hall of Tiffin, and Pamela L. Stillberger and her special friend Brad Dove of LaGrange, Ind.; six grandchildren, Morgan Stillberger, MacKenzie Stillberger, Corey Kummerer, Katie Reinhart, Erika Hall and Jonah Mitchell Hall; a brother, Ray Hall of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Orbin (Monty) Sillar Montgomery of Tiffin, and Julia Lawson of Tiffin.
Preceding him in death were: three brothers, Paul Hall, Dewey Hall and Linville Hall; and two sisters, Alpha Hatton and Josephine Maksemetz.
He was a graduate of Columbian High School, class of 1956; a veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962; and retired after 43 years of service as manufacturing engineer from National Machinery Co. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church; Am-Vets, D.A.V., Moose, American Legion; served 37 years on Tiffin Columbian football chain gang; and coached Little League Football for 14 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with the Rev. Watson Combs of the Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Graveside service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council at the Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice; Tiffin Little League Football; or Tiffin Columbian Athletic Boosters.
Pauline M. Chudzinski
Pauline M. Chudzinski (Jan. 18, 1926-Feb. 7, 2003), 77, of 1916 Morrison Rd., Fremont, died Friday afternoon at her home surrounded by her entire family. Born in Sandusky County to the late Edwin and Ludwina (Steinberger) Molyet on Oct. 15, 1949, she married
Daniel Chudzinski at St. Joseph Church in Fremont.
Daniel survives along with her children: Anthony (Cathy) Chudzinski, Mrs. Al (Karen) O'Neal, Mark (Judy) Chudzinski, Mrs. Brad (Patty) Culbert, Peter (Joy) Chudzinski, Jacob (Kathy) Chudzinski, and Amy Chudzinski, all of Fremont, Mrs. Michael (Therese) Clouse of Fostoria, Mrs. Michael (Mary) Chudzinski of Swanton, and Barbara (John) Chudzinski of DeFuniak Springs, Fla; 22 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers Norbert and Ronald Molyet, both of Fremont, Bernard Molyet of Naples, Fla., and Donald Molyet of Findlay; and sisters Mary Dickman and Agnes Darr, both of Fremont, Margaret Bradman of Carey, Rita Ralston of Boston, Mass., and Dorothy Sugar of Pewyn, Pa.
Preceding Pauline were her son, Frederick Chudzinski; and twin brothers, Paul and Edwin Molyet.
Pauline was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, the former Catholic Nurses Club, the Hayes Ohio Star American Quilter, and was a volunteer at Reach to Recovery of the American Red Cross from 1991 to 1998. Pauline was a 1944 graduate of Green Springs High School and received an R.N. degree from Toledo Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She did nursing at Memorial Hospital in Fremont for two years and was a nurse with the Sandusky County Migrant Clinic. Pauline and her husband were the former co-owners of Chud's Inc. and she was a homemaker. She along with her husband Dan wintered in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday, at the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, with a Wake service at 3 p.m.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Casimir Catholic Church, or to the grade schools at St. Ann's, St. Joseph's or Sacred Heart.
Richard E. Sherman
Richard E. Sherman, 70, of 4050 S. SR 100, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, in the emergency room at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born Oct. 19, 1932, in Carey, to Walter and Josephine (Albert) Sherman.
Survivors include a son, Robert F. Sherman of Mansfield; and two grandchildren.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with military graveside service conducted by the United Veterans Council at Rock Creek cemetery, Tiffin.
Visitation will be Monday from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
Charles H. Cook
Charles H. Cook, 83, of 234 Grand Ave., Tiffin, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.
He was born Dec. 31, 1919, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, to Charles W. and Mabel (Westerhouse) Cook. He married
Marvalene Kisabeth Feb. 15, 1947, in Tiffin. She survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Bonnie Cook of Middletown; a son, William (Mary) Cook of Bascom; three grandchildren, James Cook of Columbus, Beth Cook of Bowling Green and Kelly Cook of Bascom; and a sister, Mayo Drake of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Cook.
Mr. Cook was a member of the Republic United Church of Christ; a 1938 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School; a state champion discus thrower; a member and treasurer of Republic Grange, Pamona Grange, State and National Grange, and deputy for Seneca County Grange the past 25 years; secretary for Grange bowling league for 47 years; member of the Tiffin Eagles; member of the Farm Bureau; past director of Seneca County Fair and a past director of Tiffin Men's Bowling Association. He had also attended Heidelberg College.
Mr. Cook worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a truck driver, retiring in 1985. He was an avid bowler, and he also played in many local basketball and baseball leagues. He enjoyed camping, working in his rose garden, and watching the various sports activities of his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at the Republic United Church of Christ with the Rev. Jeff King officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacobs cemetery in Republic.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friendly Hills Grange Campground and the Republic United Church of Christ.
Garth A. Fosnaugh
Garth A. "Bud" Fosnaugh, 73, of 14834 E. TR 104, Attica, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at his home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1930, to Charles and Clara May (Johnson) Fosnaugh, in Wells County, Indiana. On Sept. 12, 1951, he married
Ferne Marie Mathys in Fort Braggs, N.C. She survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Bradley J. Fosnaugh of Attica; four daughters, Mrs. Bradley (Brenda) Bossman of Cape Haze, Fla., Mrs. James (Belinda) Haspeslagh of North Auburn, Mrs. Michael (Bonita) Hall of Washington Court House, and Mrs. William (Beth) Clark of Joelton, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Oscar (Lorene) Andrews of Bluffton, Ind., and Mrs. Norman (Lucille) Duke of Mio, Mich.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Forrest, Don, Russell and Laverne.
Mr. Fosnaugh was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church and past president of its trustees; a member of the American Legion in Columbus; a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union 250, where he served as a financial secretary; a 1949 graduate of Petroleum High School in Petroleum, Ind.; and a Korean Conflict Army veteran. Retiring in 1992, Mr. Fosnaugh had been employed by CSX as a sheet metal worker.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the Attica United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thom Kalb and the Rev. Malcolm Brook officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville.
