Hugh Davenport
Hugh "Sleepy" Davenport of Medford Lakes, N.J., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003.
He was one of five brothers raised in the former Tiffin Junior Home, entering the home from Knoxville, Tenn.
He was a career U.S. Navy serviceman.
His wife Jean died Nov. 3, 2002.
He is survived by a brother, Joseph Davenport, of Knoxville, Tenn.
Richard C. Painter
Richard C. Painter, 74, of Tiffin, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Spring Hill, Fla., due to complications of Lou Gehrig's disease.
He was born to Harry A. and Susan (Burkholder) Painter on Sept. 28, 1928, in Campbelltown, Pa., and moved to Tiffin in the fall of 1964 with his wife, Irene, and two daughters.
Dick worked for Westinghouse in Sharon, Pa. for 13 years and retired from the Ohio Power Company in Tiffin as a substation supervisor, after 33 years as an electrical engineer.
He was an avid outdoorsman, active in hunting and fishing all of his life, serving as a leader in his local Izaak Walton League. He taught hunter safety courses and served as a role model for young conservationists. He was a very active member of his church, Trinity United Church of Christ, serving on many committees over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; daughter, Lynne Noark, son-in-law, Ronald Noark and grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Noark of Brooksville, Fla.; daughter, Dr. Jill Watson and son-in-law, Brian Watson of Orlando, Fla.; and brother, Robert Painter of Flat Rock, Mich. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews as well as 15 great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Trinity United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Izaak Walton League of Seneca County, Trinity United Church of Christ or the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Toledo.

Floyd Fuller Jr.
Floyd Fuller Jr., 72, of Delray Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003.
He was born April 15, 1930, to Floyd and Emma (Hubbard) Fuller. His father died in 1953 and his mother in 1997. He married
Amanda E. Townes May 6, 1951, in Kentucky. She died Aug. 18, 2000.
Surviving are six sons, David of Delray Beach, John of Tiffin, Benjamin and Christopher, both of Fostoria, Damon Banks of Cleveland and Alex Banks of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Barbara) Jackson of Fostoria; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Mrs. Callie Smith of Cleveland and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Fuller.
Mr. Fuller worked for numerous years at the Chevy dealership in Fostoria.
The Straghn and Son Funeral Home, 26 S. W. 5th Ave., Delray Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Adelia M. 'Ida' Best
Adelia M. "Ida" Best, 77, of 107 Crescent Court, Bucyrus, died 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at her home.
She was born April 17, 1925, in New Haven, Ind. to John and Inez (Sturm) Burkholder. She married
Cecil F. Best on Feb. 1, 1957. He survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Ronald Klaiss of Huntsville, Ark.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez Burkholder; a brother, Ralph Burkholder and a sister, Helen Stallkamp.
Mrs. Best had been a teletypist at the Galion Inquirer and the Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum, then retired from General Electric 22 years ago, after 15 years of service. She attended schools in Bellevue and Old Fort, graduating from Old Fort High School. Mrs. Best loved traveling, fishing and square dancing. She and her husband were former members of the Hicks and Chicks Square Dancing Club of Marion.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus with the Rev. Jack Kocsis officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Laura A. Wilcox
Laura A. Wilcox, 72, of East Lansing, Mich., died 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2003, in the emergency room of Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.
Services and burial are under the direction of the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home in Lansing, Mich. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
C. Wayne Brinker
C. Wayne "Buckeye" Brinker, 85, formerly of Carey, died 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
He was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Hancock County, to Charles and Margaret (Johnson) Brinker. He married
Ellen Edgington on Nov. 12, 1945. She died on June 1, 1960.
Surviving are: a son, Chuck Brinker of Upper Sandusky; two daughters, Cathy Lucius of Tiro and Carol Moses of Upper Sandusky; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Daunt Brinker of Carey.
Mr. Brinker was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Patterson cemetery in Patterson with Military Graveside Rites conducted by local Veterans' Organizations.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Marilyn M. Rettig
Marilyn M. Rettig, 69, of 5856 W. CR 59, McCutchenville, died 9:17 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Wyandot County Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky.
She was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Carey to the late Carl Grand and Alma K. (Sopher) Gibson. She married
Clarence Andrew Hodge and divorced. She married
Willard E. Rettig on Nov. 30, 1958. He survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Carl A. Hodge of McCutchenville and Micah Rettig of Tiffin; two daughters, Sharolyn Rettig of Carey and Nancy Wolfe of Sycamore; two stepsons, Tom Rettig of Carey and Rick Rettig of Wharton; two stepdaughters, Barbara Arlington of St. Augustine, Fla. and Victoria Seifert of Carey; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Grant Gibson, Jr of Findlay; Daniel Gibson of Carey and Dennis Gibson of Tiffin; three sisters, Anita Rowland of Findlay, Sue Yates and Jayne Hunker, both of Carey.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Stombaugh-batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Merle C. Fleck
Merle C. Fleck, a mature senior citizen, of 121 Sycamore St., Tiffin, passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in the Mercy Hospital of Tiffin Emergency Care Center.
She was born on April 28, 1922, in Ishpeming, Mich., to Iver and Linnea (Larson) Johnson. She married
Thomas S. Fleck on July 12, 1947. He survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are: three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Erin Fleck of Marietta, Ga. Pete and Anita Fleck of Tiffin and Tim and Joann Fleck of Sandusky; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Robert Long of Columbus; a granddaughter, six grandsons and a great-grandson; a brother, Kenneth Johnson of Brockton, Mass.; two sisters, Joyce Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn. and Louise Wunsch of Traverse City, Mich.
Mrs. Fleck was a homemaker after serving in Berlin as an administrative assistant for the Office of Military Government, U.S.
Merle donated her body to the University of Michigan Medical School, therefore, a Memorial Mass will be conducted at St. Joseph Catholic Church 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, with the Rev. James K. Say officiating.
Visitation before the service will be 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church Chapel with fellowship and luncheon immediately following in St. Joseph's Activity Hall - The Upper Room.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seneca County Right to Life, Focus on the Family, Seneca County Habitat for Humanity, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ray Heaberlin Jr.
Ray Heaberlin Jr., 78, of Mansfield, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 7, 2003, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.
He was born Sept. 2, 1924, in Ashland, Ky., to Ray Sr. and Glenna F. (Clemons) Heaberlin.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Bollinger) Heaberlin; two sons, Daniel E. Heaberlin of Marion and Kenneth D. Heaberlin of Mansfield; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Heaberlin of Mansfield.
Mr. Heaberlin was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving on numerous submarines. He earned the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Medal.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors in Mansfield. Burial will be in Mansfield cemetery with Military graveside services.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Albert N. Erbs
Albert N. Erbs, 83, of Attica, died 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. He was born May 22, 1919, in Cleveland, to the late John and Laura Erbs.
Mr. Erbs was a graduate of Wakeman High School, Class of 1937, and was a Veteran of the Army Infantry during WWII. He was a self-employed watchmaker and a member of the Attica United Methodist Church.
Mr. Erbs is survived by his wife Bessie M. (Bennett) Erbs, whom he married
April, 14, 1942. Two daughters: Sharon (Doug) Deal of Lynchburg, N.C. and Bonnie (Kim) Ohl of Attica. Three grandchildren: Dane Deal of Lynchburg, N.C., Teresa Gantz of Lima and Kevin Ohl of Westerville. Great-granddaughter: Brooke Gantz. A sister: Laura Melia of Loraine.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Private family services will be Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin Street, Attica. Burial will be in the Attica-Venice Township cemetery, Attica.

Shirley E. Eidt
Shirley E. Eidt, 73, of 849 W. Water St., Apt. 102, Tiffin, died 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
Arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.
Robert E. Rogers
Robert E. Rogers, 80, of Attica, died 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at the Elmwood at the Shawhan in Tiffin.
He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Seneca County to the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Stutzman) Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was a veteran of the Army AirCorp during WWII. He was a mail carrier in the Attica area for 27 years, farmed, owned the Attica Hub for five years and repaired radios and televisions.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 260, Attica, where he had been a member for 50 years.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife Eileen (McClelland) Rogers, whom he married
Aug. 1, 1948. Three sons: Robert A. (Barbara) Rogers of Crestline, Donald L. (Vonnie) Rogers of Attica and Richard P. Rogers of Tiffin. Two daughters: Kathy L. (Paul) Miller of Attica and Vicki J. (Paul) Gesler of Bluffton. 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A brother: Paul (Vera) Rogers of Attica and one sister: Doris Eileen Rogers of Leihigh, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Weldon Rogers and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. James L. Barkenquast officiating. Burial will be in the Attica-Venice Twp. cemetery, Attica.

Leona Catherine Boes
Leona Catherine Boes, 96, of CH 53, Kirby, Ohio, died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 27, 1906, in Frenchtown, Seneca County, to the late Anthony and Lena (Clause) Brandt. On Sept. 16, 1926, in Frenchtown, she married
Charles Boes Sr. He preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1990.
Surviving are six sons, Bernard C. of Kirby, Charles J., Richard J., Francis A., Eugene B. and Daniel D., all of Upper Sandusky; three daughters, Sister Agnes Marie Boes, Sister of Mercy, Dayton; Sister Jane Boes, Sister of Mercy, Springfield and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Dick of Kenton; 42 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Joseph and Paul, a daughter, Rita Wagner, two grandchildren, James and Rex and two brothers, Leo and William, also are deceased.
A homemaker, Mrs. Boes assisted her husband on the family farm. She was the oldest member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kirby and a member of its Rosary Altar Society for over 62 years. She also worked for many church festivals. She enjoyed children, watching her son farm, vegetable gardening, canning and freezing, flowers, embroidering, crocheting, quilting, sewing and sitting at her window where she prayed her rosary and read the newspaper every day. She also enjoyed eating out.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kirby, with Father James Steinle officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Kirby.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Jan. 9, at the Bringman Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, where the rosary will be prayed at 9 p.m..

Louis J. Snyder
Louse J. Snyder, 57, of North Main St., Clyde, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at his residence.
He was born May 26, 1945, in Fremont, to the late Linus and Christine (Flory) Snyder. He never married

Surviving are: four brothers, George A. Snyder of Walbridge, Carl R. Snyder of Clyde, Thomas E. Snyder of Tiffin and Vincent A. Snyder of Fremont; two sisters, Dolores Kuns of Clyde and Marti Schaeffer of Old Fort.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be in Bakertown cemetery in Clyde.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the services.
Craig E. Phillips
Craig E. Phillips, 78,of 810 East Findlay St., Carey, died 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at his residence.
He was born May 12, 1924, in McCutchenville, to the late John and Esther (Flowers) Phillips. He married
Emma E. Swin, in Bradner, on Dec. 9, 1948. She survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Rick Phillips of Carey; a daughter, Vicky Lortz of Wharton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, James of Tiffin, Loren of Bowling Green and Morris of Tiffin; two sisters, Arlene Hines and Martha Lambert, both of Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Phillips was a WWII US Army veteran serving in Germany, Russia and Sweden.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Betty L. Stevenson
Betty L. Stevenson, 82, of West Liberty, died 1:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at the Green Hills Center in West Liberty.
Formerly of Bellefontaine, and a Junior Home Kid, she was born in Springfield Aug. 29, 1920, to the late Clarence and Gladys Lakin Stultz. On Aug. 31, 1943, she married
Wayne Harold Stevenson in Bellefontaine. He died in 1989.
Surviving are: a son, Donald A. Stevenson of Bellefontaine; a daughter, Gloria Beair of Marion; a brother, James Palmer of Columbus; two sisters, Mary Notestine of Bellefontaine and Norma Godwin of Belle Center; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
