Elsie B. Craft
Elsie B. Craft, 72, of 200 West South St., Carey, died 7 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Somerset, Ky., to Alonzo and Cora Ellen (Sweet) Dick. She married
Grover Craft in Findlay on Sept. 8, 1948. He died on Aug. 29, 1999.
Surviving are: a son, James E. Craft of Carey; two daughters, Linda A. Jones and Susie M. Fisher, both of Carey; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nelson Dick of Carey and Junior Lee Dick of Tiffin; a sister, Lorene Stark of Adrian.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.
Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Howard Allen Knight
Howard Allen Knight, 75, of 1657 Tomahawk Trace, Fremont, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, 2002, at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, following a long battle of lung disease.
He was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Royal Oak, Mich. He was a 1944 graduate of Fostoria High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 30, 1944, and served overseas in the Philippine Islands during W.W. II. On Oct. 19, 1947, he married
Joyce Estella Reinhard. The marriage produced two sons, Charles Allen Knight, born in 1949 and Christopher John Knight, born in 1952.
From 1949-1959, he was a railway mail clerk, where he sorted mail in transit on passenger trains running all over North Central United States. In 1959 he founded H.A. Knight and Son's Masonry Construction Company. In 1963 he was elected to and served five terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. From 1968-1991 he founded and operated for 23 years, Knight Insurance Agency Inc. From 1973-1977 he taught economics at the University of Toledo, Scott Park Campus. In 1982, he was unsuccessful in his bid for candidate for Ohio State Treasurer. He held numerous licenses, such as: private pilot (instrument rated), amateur radio operator (WB8YPB), insurance, real estate auctioneer and certified life underwriter. At the time of his death, he was still an active partner in Round Table Homes, a real estate holding company. During his retirement, in Florida, he had tutored young immigrants on how to speak English and to become self-sufficient. He obtained his glider pilot's license and was an adviser for S.C.O.R.E.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Reinhard) Knight; two sons, Christopher Knight of Fremont and Charles Knight of Fostoria; three grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron and Taylor Knight; and a sister, Lois Baldwin of Atlanta, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard W. and Dorothy (Hale) Knight; and a sister, Elizabeth Murray.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Nov. 8, in the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, Ohio.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark J. Herzog officiating. Burial will follow in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be given to the Catholic Education Development Fund or the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
Kenneth E. Mizen
Kenneth E. Mizen, 37, of 140 Union St., Tiffin, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 in St. Catherine Care Center of Fostoria. He was born July 14, 1965 to Harvey L. and Jeanette C. (Dull) Mizen, Sr., his mother survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving include: four brothers, Harold T. and Harvey L., Jr. both of Tiffin, Albert T. III of Findlay, and Larry L. of Mesa, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Viola M. Gathers of Tiffin, and Mrs. Dorothy J. Sanchez of Denver, Colo.
Mr. Mizen was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
Services at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at Church of the Nazarene.
Visitation 12, noon until time of service at the church. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Esther M. Colvin
Esther M. Colvin, 97, a resident of Fox Run Manor, Findlay, died at 12 a.m., Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Fox Run Manor.
She was born July 7, 1905, in Bascom, Ohio, to Lewis and Rosa M. (Shiley) Comer, and her parents are deceased. She married
Lorenzo D. Colvin on April 9, 1924; and he died Jan. 24, 1975.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mary E. Craven of Tucson, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Comer and Donald Comer of Tiffin, and Paul Comer of Fostoria; and a sister, Vera Adams of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Also preceding her in death were: three sons, Marion Dale Colvin, Ronald A. Colvin and Wayne Colvin; a brother, Melvin Comer; and two sisters, Thelma King and Evelyn Berrier.
She was a homemaker; member of Bascom United Methodist Church, W.S.W.S. of the church and a member of General Electric Women's Old Timers Club.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, in Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, with the Rev. Gale Colvin officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Sand Ridge cemetery in Bascom.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday.
Memorials may be made to Bascom United Methodist Church.
Kenneth E. Mizen
Kenneth E. Mizen, 37, 140 Union St., Tiffin, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in St. Catherine Care Center of Fostoria.
He was born July 14, 1965, in Tiffin, to Harvey L. Sr. and Jeanette C. (Dull) Mizen. His mother survives in Tiffin and his father is deceased.
Other survivors include: four brothers, Harold T. and Harvey L. Jr., both of Tiffin, Albert T. III of Findlay and Larry L. of Mesa, Ariz.; and two sisters, Mrs. Jesse (Viola M.) Gathers of Tiffin and Mrs. Ray (Dorothy J.) Sanchez of Denver, Colo.
Mr. Mizen, a Columbian High School graduate, was employed as a bartender and also worked for Foodtown. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and the Seneca County AIDS Support Group.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Brad Collette officiating.
Visitation will be noon Monday until the time of the service at the church. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to his family, in care of the funeral home or the Seneca County AIDS Support Group.
Virginia R. Burns
Virginia R. Burns, 76, of Autumnwood Care Center and formerly of 1220 42nd St., Fostoria, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Paulding to Frank and Mary (Kadesch) Noneman. She married
Leroy C. Burns Jan. 24, 1946, in Paulding, and he died Feb. 1, 1995.
Survivors include: her step-mother, Violet Robinson of Chandler, Ariz.; two sons, Robert F. Burns of Fostoria and Michael J. Burns of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Le Anne M. Burns of Lynchburg, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Noneman of California; a half-brother, John Noneman of Dallas, Texas; and two half-sisters, Rosemary Carnahan of Chandler, Ariz., and Kerilyn Noneman of Salisbury, N.C.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where a Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia.
Visitation will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m.
Linda Mae Trembath
Linda Mae Trembath, 54, of Fort Seneca died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her residence.
She was born March 7, 1948, in Tiffin to Charles and Verna Mae (Hade) Huber. She married
David Trembath in Fort Seneca on June 30, 1967, and he survives.
Other survivors include: her mother of Fort Seneca; two sons, Brett (Sara) Trembath of Fremont, and Brandon Trembath at home; a grandchild, Austin Linda Trembath; two brothers, Greg (Pat) Huber of Old Fort, and Harry Huber of Fort Seneca; a godson, Mathew Russell Mellott; and close friends Shelly Mellott of Old Fort, and Judy Bowling of Fort Seneca.
She was a 1966 Old Fort High School graduate and a homemaker. Memberships included: Fort Seneca United Church of Christ where she organized the 140th year celebration; Old Fort Flames Fire Department Auxiliary where she had all offices including president, vice-president and secretary/treasurer. Her hobbies included working with silk flowers, collecting seashells, lighthouses and miniature dolphin figurines.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, in Fort Seneca United Church of Christ with the Rev. Barry Bordenkircher officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio; (419) 447-3113.

Donald E. Strausbaugh
Donald E. Strausbaugh, 82, of S. Broadway St., Green Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in Bellevue Hospital.
He was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Madison Mills, Ohio, to Clarence and Alma (Reed) Strausbaugh. He married
Betty Herron Aug. 3, 1941; and she survives, along with two daughters, Shirley Selvey and Nancy Fox, both of Green Springs; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Medrith Merritt of Washington Court House, and Thelma June Armstrong of Fremont.
He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in the Philippines and Japan during World War II.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with military graveside services provided by the Green Springs VFW and Green Springs American Legion at the Green Springs cemetery.
Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Carl F. Baker
Carl F. Baker, 88, of Attica and formerly of Port Clinton, died Friday at Tiffin Mercy Hospital.
He was born Feb. 1, 1914, in Lindsey, Ohio, the son of the late Franklin H. and May (Shull) Baker.
Mr. Baker was a former employee of: Day's Nursery and Walt Strayer Heating, both in Fremont; U.S. Gypsum; Matthews Boat Co.; Erie Army Depot and Davis Besse, from which he retired, with the Carpenters Union Local 2239 in 1978. He served in the Army National Guard 148 Infantry, Company B, from 1934 to 1937.
He was a member of the Attica Eagles Aerie 412, former member of the Port Clinton Moose Lodge 1610, Port Clinton Elks Lodge 1718, Port Clinton Eagles Aerie 2295 and Port Clinton V.F.W. Post 2480.
Survivors include: sons, Ron Baker Sr. of Thornville, Gary A. Baker of Walhonding, Daniel L. Baker of Port Clinton, Terry A. Baker of Attica; daughters, Cheryl A. Beam of Marion and Karen L. Goodman of Port Clinton; sisters, Blanche Toth of Fremont and Viola Grassi of Phoenix, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; step-children, Shirley Spears, Donna Leary and Guy Kirkwood; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His first wife of 30 years, Nina V. (Smith) Baker died April 6, 1966. His second wife of 30 years Rosemond (Kirkwood) died March 22, 2001. Also deceased are sons, Kenneth and Galen F. Baker; brother, Claude Baker; step-brother, Derwood Baker; sisters, Florence Roush, Ruth Coon, Ione Truex, Marjorie Smith and Esther Baker; and step-sons Richard and Junior Kirkwood.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Neidecker-LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton, where funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Dennis D. Dodson
Dennis D. "Denny" Dodson, 46, of 330 Sullivan St., Bettsville, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 19, 1955, in Fremont to the late Ralph W. and Judith A. (Stevens) Dodson Jr. He married
Debra Snyder Oct. 19, 1974, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin.
Surviving are: his wife, Debra Dodson of Bettsville; a son, Michael Dodson of Tiffin; two daughters, Michelle Dodson and Sherry Dodson, both of Burgoon; six grandchildren; three brothers, Danny Dodson, Duane Dodson, both of Lizella, Ga., and David Dodson of Tiffin; two sisters, Wendy Dodson and Christina Dodson, both of Lizella, Ga.
Mr. Dodson served in the U.S. Army.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, with military rites by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin.
Ada Mae (Lee) Gittinger
Ada Mae (Lee) Gittinger, 86, of 8514 E. CR 34, Green Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in Bellevue Hospital.
She was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Adams Township, Seneca County to Clifford and Pearl (Weihl) Lee Sr. She married
Gilbert N. Gittinger, in Marion, on June 1, 1937. He survives.
Also surviving are: three sons, Warren Gittinger and Elizabeth of Bellevue, Gilbert Gittinger Jr. and Norma of Green Springs and Norman Gittinger and Linda of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great, great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Lee, Jr. and Earlie Lee, both of Green Springs; and a sister, Mrs. Sally (Clayton) Day of Green Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Milan Lee; and two sisters, Jenny Sherman and Iva Laux.
Mrs. Gittinger was a member of the Union Grange.
Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs, with the Rev. Jared Williams officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Seneca County.
Arnold E. 'Pappy' Hayman Jr.
Arnold E. "Pappy" Hayman Jr., 78, of 350 Rosewood Avenue, Findlay, died 4:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at his residence.
He was born April 9, 1924, in Carey to Arnold E. and Cora (McFern) Hayman. He married
JoAnne C. (Croy) Hayman. She survives in Findlay.
Also surviving are: a son, Douglas Hayman of Findlay; a daughter, Donna Jean Hotelling of Findlay; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George T. Hayman, formerly of Toledo.
Mr. Hayman worked in sales for Croy Construction. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines, where he served in the Invasion of Normandy, France and was awarded the Atlantic War Zone Bar, the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar, and the Combat Bar for his services in enemy conflicts.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay, with the Rev. Deborah K. Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, where full graveside military honors will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorials Squad.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Mabel Elizabeth (Hassenplug) Ink
Mabel Elizabeth (Hassenplug) Ink, 92, formerly of Republic, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Tahoe Forest Hospital in California.
She was born April 3, 1910, in Bellevue, to Charles R. and Myra Hassenplug.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Farewell Retreat cemetery in Republic.
The Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home in Bloomville is in charge of the local arrangements.
Earl W. Young
Earl W. Young, 87, of Elmwood Center, 430 N. Broadway, Green Springs, where he has been a resident since May 1, 2002, and formerly of East CR 181 in Green Springs, died 6:41 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born June 4, 1915, in Sandusky County to Homer C. and Bessie J. (Walden) Young. He married
Ruth (Wood) Young in Beaumont, Texas on Nov. 25, 1949. She survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Kevin Young of Green Springs; and a daughter, Karel K. (Glen) Harcus of Cleveland, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel O. Young.
Mr Young was retired from farming and had been a 1933 graduate of Green Springs High School.
He was a member of, and past master of, the Green Springs Masonic Lodge #427, and a member of Green Springs United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Engle-Turner Funeral Home of Green Springs, with the Rev. Nancy Hull officiating. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
