Pauline L. Kohlenberg
Pauline L. Kohlenberg, 81, formerly of Huss Street, Tiffin, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in the Autumnwood Care Center.
She was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Melmore, to the late Urban and Helen (Walter) Smith. On March 2, 1946, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, she married
Lewis C. Kohlenberg. He died Dec. 8, 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jane Kohlenberg of Fort Seneca; two sons, James L. Kohlenberg of Tiffin and Larry U. Kohlenberg of Green Springs; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Ruth Ann) Ludwig and Mrs. Philip (Helen Rose) Miller, both of Tiffin; seven grandsons and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother,,James J. Smith and a sister, Norma Jean Smith.
Mrs. Kohlenberg, a homemaker, attended Calvert High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Altar-Rosary Society.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. James K. Say officiating. The rosary will be prayed at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Entombment will be in Seneca Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Autumnwood Care Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
Leah M. Martien
Leah M. Martien, 89, of the Seneca House, Tiffin, formerly of 127 Wentz St., died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Seneca House.
She was born April 20, 1913, in Lowell to Joseph and Ina (Freeze) Eberly. On Nov. 30, 1940, she married
Henry Martien in Tiffin. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1996.
Surviving are: two sons, Lynn Martien and David Martien, both of Tiffin; two daughters, Sandra McDonald of Glendale, Ariz., and Karen Taylor of Apoka, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon Eberly of Findlay; three sisters, Pauline Boehler and Louella Baker, both of Tiffin, and Marian White of New Lebanon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Eugene Graham; a brother, Robert Eberly; and a sister, Christine DeDeMole.
Mrs. Martien was a homemaker and a graduate of Old Fort High School and Tiffin University. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, the Eastern Star 189, United Commercial Travelers, and the Ruth Circle at her church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Culp officiating.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. There also will be an Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Arcadia.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, the church, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Robert Joseph Hahler Sr.
Robert Joseph Hahler Sr., 83, of Willard, died 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at the Willard Healthcare Center.
He was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Norwich Township, Huron County, to the late Joseph A. and Mary (Bischoff) Hahler.
He is survived by his wife, Helen L. (Phillips) Hahler, whom he married
Nov. 11, 1947; two sons, Robert J. Hahler Jr. and his wife Mary; Ralph E. Hahler, both of Willard; a daughter, Mrs. Marleen (Donald) Graham of Bloomville; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; a brother, Howard Hahler of Willard; three sisters, Helen Haspeslagh of Attica, Ortrude Diehm of Willard and Florence Brown of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene M. Hahler; a brother, Richard Hahler and a sister, Agnes Hahler.
Mr. Hahler farmed and worked for the B&O Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, K of C in Willard and the Norwalk V.F.W.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church, with the Rev. John M. Nagele officiating, Burial will be in St. Sebastian's cemetery in Bismark.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica. A Rosary Service will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Masses, the St. Sebastian's Catholic Church or to Stein Hospice through the funeral home.
Dr. William 'Bill' Carrigan
Dr. William "Bill" Carrigan, 81, of 294 Coe St., Tiffin, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at St. Francis Home.
He was born June 30, 1921, in Tiffin to Dr. Robert E. and Madeline (Diringer) Carrigan. He married
Marion D. Pillifant on May 31, 1945, in Waukegan, Ill. She survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are: sons, John D. Carrigan, C.P.A. of Tiffin, William T. Carrigan, MD of Macon, Ga. and Kevin R. Carrigan of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughter, Mrs. Joan (John) Altwater of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.: grandchildren, Mrs. Kathleen (Joseph) Sterbis of Washington, D.C., Christopher B., Matthew K. and Abby Carrigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Madeline Carrigan; two brothers, John Frederick and Robert E. Carrigan; and his sister, Mrs. Geraldine (Paul) Williams.
Dr. Carrigan was a 1939 graduate of Calvert High School; attended the University of Dayton from 1939-1941; received his Bachelor of Science degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1943; Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry from 1941-1944; served in the U.S. Navy - Oct. 1944 - March of 1946 and again from October 1952- October 1953, serving in WW II and the Korean War.
In 1946, he joined his father in the practice of dentistry, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. He was a member of the following dental organizations: O.K.U.- 1944; A.D.A.- 1942 to present; Ohio State Dental Assoc. from 1944 to present; Toledo Dental Assoc. (Assoc. member from 1958-1961); North Central Dental Assoc.
Dr. Carrigan was a member of the following professional or scientific organizations: past President ( 1958-1960) Ohio Academy of Dental Practice Administration; Life member American College of Dentists; former Tiffin Mercy Hospital staff member; served as member of the original committee of Dental Care of Ohio Dental Assoc.; Compiled and edited, "History of Dentistry in North Central Ohio Dental Society"; received Ohio Dental Assoc. Meritorious Service Award in 1974; received Award for Excellence from North Central Ohio Dental Society in 1975.
He was involved in the following community services: promoting Fluoridation in Tiffin Community; numerous annual talks to schools, P.T.A. groups on "Your Dental Health"; along with other dentists, initiated a program for fabrication of mouth guards for local football players in high schools and college in 1961; past President of Kiwanis Club of Tiffin; past vice-president of North Central Mental Health Assoc,; Active committee member of Boy Scout troop 444 - 1960-1970; member for over 35 years of Serra International (Catholic Men's Club); life member of Tiffin Elk's Lodge 94; life member of 4th degree Knights of Columbus; past President of Tiffin Park Board - very active at time of building first outdoor swimming pool in 1952-1953; member of Calvert Foundation; announcer for Calvert High School ballgames for 25 years.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. There will be a Rosary Service 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, where military graveside service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvert High School Foundation, St. Francis Home's Residents Activity Fund, St. Joseph School library, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Kathryn M. Chaffee
Kathryn M. Chaffee, 83, of 81 W. TR 143, Tiffin, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.
She was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Tiffin to Charles and Maude (Boltz) McIntyre. She married
Glen C. Chaffee on Sept. 12, 1935, in Wellsburg, W. Va. He died June 6, 1974.
Surviving are: two sons, Benjamin H. Chaffee and Glenn A. Chaffee, both of Sycamore; four daughters, Nancy K. Kirchner of Freeport, Texas, Marilyn A. Martin of Fremont; Glenna M. West of Fort Seneca and Deborah Sue Majors of Tiffin; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; a son, Richard E. Chaffee; six brothers and six sisters.
Mrs. Chaffee was a homemaker and lifetime resident of this area.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Tiffin, with the Rev. Barry Bordenkircher officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Robert F. Groves Jr.
Robert F. Groves Jr., 76, of 15 Park Place, Bloomville, died Monday morning, Oct. 28, 2002, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Baltimore, Md. to Robert and Margaret (Kirkwood) Groves Sr. He married
Joanne Glance on Jan. 15, 1947, in Falls Church, Va. She survives in Bloomville.
Also surviving are: two sons, Randy and Rick Groves of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Wendy (Gary) Johnson of Tiffin; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a brother, Dale Groves of Du Bois, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Betty (Robert) Shobert and Mrs. Marjorie Moore of Sarasota, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Marie in 1948, and a son, Dennis, in 1989.
Mr. Groves was the former assistant manager of the JC Pennies store in Tiffin. He retired in 1986 from the Tiffin Developmental Center, where he was employed for 15 years as a stationary engineer.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin, Caulfield American Legion Post 434 in Bloomville, the Lions Club. Mr. Groves was a WW II Navy veteran.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin, with the Rev. Lori Hill officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery in Tiffin, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the Seneca Co. Humane Society.
The Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19 in Bloomville, is in charge of the arrangements.
Victor P. Geiger
Victor P. Geiger, 82, of Bowling Green, formerly of Tiffin, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo.
He was born in Tiffin on Aug. 12, 1920, to Henry and Nellie (Feldman) Geiger. He marred Doris (Rothhaar) of Lykens on Jan. 30, 1944. She survives in Bowling Green.
Also surviving are: a son Ronald of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Anna Szurlej of Danbury, Conn., Connie of Helena, Mont. and Pauline Miller of Tiffin; a brother, Carl of Chehalis, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dunn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Reception will follow at the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Peer L. Delzell
Peer L. Delzell, 72, of Sandusky CR 175, Clyde, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Arbors of Clyde.
He was born on July 3, 1930, to George and Lottie (Marguder) Delzell in Sandusky County. He married
Phyllis (Wilka) Dalzell on Nov. 15, 1958. She died May 19, 2002.
Surviving are: a daughter, Dawn Sumner of Clyde; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Barbara Ann Burns
Barbara Ann Burns, 64, 120 Erie St., Tiffin, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Green Springs, to the late Fredrick and Cora (Shiley) Selvey. On Nov. 8, 1958, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married
John C. Burns, who survives.
Other survivors include: six sons and three daughters, Ronald A. Burns of Tiffin, Richard A. Burns of Rockwall, Texas, Beverly A. Kopp of rural Republic, Janet R. Agerter of rural New Riegel, Judith K. Burns of Port Clinton, John E. and Robert E. Burns, both of rural Tiffin and Keneth J. and Brian D. Burns, both of Tiffin; 17 grandchildren and two brothers, Stanley Selvey of Green Springs and Sanford Selvey of rural Green Springs.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Earl Smyser; and four brothers, Manford, Robert, Richard and Harold Selvey.
A 1955 graduate of Green Springs High School, Mrs. Burns was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the VFW in Green Springs.
A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in St. Mary Church with the Rev. Thomas Ankenbrandt officiating. The rosary will be prayed at 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery.
Visitation will be private. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
Kathleen R. Fisher
Kathleen R. Fisher, 83, formerly of Bradner, died Monday evening at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.
She was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Bradner, to the late Orville "Barney" and Virgie (Keller) Hathaway. On April 6, 1939, she married
Wayne G. Fisher in Gibsonburg, he died on Jan. 22, 1992.
Kathleen is survived by two sons, Carl Fisher of Fostoria, Richard Fisher of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Karen Richardson of Springfield; six grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Elizabeth Bryan of Toledo and Barbara Stephens of Richardson, Texas.
Kathleen was a matron of the Bradner Elementary School, retiring in 1985, a longtime member of Bradner Methodist Church, the Amicus Club of Bradner. Kathleen graduated from Bradner High School in 1937.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416 Arch St., Fremont.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1 from the Bradner Methodist Church with visitation at the church from 10 a.m. till the time of the service. Burial will be in Bradner cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bradner Methodist Church.
Ralph A. Frankart
Ralph A. Frankart, 85, of 285 S. Sandusky St., Tiffin, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at St. Francis Care Centre.
He was born July 13, 1917, in Tiffin to Charles and Louisa (Frey) Frankart. He married
Miriam L. Alsip in Trinity United Church of Christ on July 9, 1944. She survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are; a son, James R. Frankart of Tiffin; two daughters, Elizabeth (Tom) Paulus and Lorraine L. Frankart, both of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Michael Paulus, Mrs. Heather (Ken) Paulus, John Frankart and Samuel Frankart; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alyssa, Taylor and Tyson Price; a sister, Mrs. Helen (Fred) Selm of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John Frankart and Paul Frankart; a sister, Alice Phipps.
Mr. Frankart had retired from ITT Abrasive, Sterling Wheel Grind Wheel Company and was a 1936 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking, camping, garage sales, flea markets and playing cards.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and Trinity Twosomes.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Trinity United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Roger Perl officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the Turner-Engle funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Sandra H. Walker
Sandra H. Walker, 54, of 10478 W. TR 116, Fostoria, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1948, in Seneca County, to the late Carl Walker and Catherine "Kate" (Doty) Walker-Marks.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Erik (Kim) Fillhart of Fostoria; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Fillhart; and a brother, Robert Walker of Wayne.
A brother, Carl Walker and a sister, Diane Ziegman, are also deceased.
Mrs. Walker, a 1967 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, Fostoria, worked at Toledo Molding and Die in Carey and also at Kuss Corp. in Findlay. She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Eagles, Ladies of the Moose, all of Fostoria and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, who will have a 5:45 p.m. Memorial Service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where a rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.
Visitation is 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. today at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will be at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Parish.
