Charles R. Gerber Sr.
Charles R. Gerber Sr., age 82, of 420 S. Autumnwood Drive, Tiffin, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his home.
He was born May 10, 1920, in Bellevue, to the late Joseph and Lena (Meyers) Gerber. On Jan. 30, 1944, in Tiffin, he married
June A. Kern. She survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are four sons, Roger J. Gerber of Columbus, Robert C. Gerber and Charles R. Gerber Jr., both of Willard and Keith E. Gerber of Bellevue; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Falter of Republic and Mrs. Kenneth (Sharon) Carbary of Bellevue; four brothers, Wayne and Paul Gerber, both of Bellevue, Marvin Gerber of Castalia and Irvin Gerber of Galion; a sister, Mrs. John (Yvonne) Depinet of Galion; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth E. Gerber in 1970, a brother, Donald Gerber and a sister, Mary Cleary.
Mr. Gerber was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tiffin, the Wade Benfer American Legion Post 404 in Republic, the Disabled American Veterans of Mansfield and a former Scipio-Republic Volunteer Fireman. He also was a W.W. II U.S. Army Air Corp veteran.
Mr. Gerber worked as a tool and die maker for 23 years at Armstrong Air Conditioning in Bellevue, retiring in 1985. He also owned and operated Gerber Welding and Machine Shop for 20 years in Republic.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tiffin, with Father Tom Ankenbrandt officiating. The rosary will be recited at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in Tiffin, with the Wade Benfer American Legion Post 404 conducting military graveside services.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Oct. 22, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
Edna M. Giles
Edna M. Giles, 80, of 380 CH 35, McCutchenville, died 5:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Wyandot Manor in Upper Sandusky.
Arrangements are pending at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore.
James L. Loomis
James L. Loomis, 48, of 512 Main St., Risingsun, died 7:52 p.m. Sunday Oct. 20, 2002, at the Medical College of Ohio, from injuries due to a motorcycle accident on SR 199, north of Fostoria.
He was born Sept. 1, 1954, in Toledo, to Lurelle L. and Anna M.
(Weiker) Loomis.
Surviving are: his mother, Anna M. Loomis of Fostoria; a daughter, Ivy L. Loomis of Clyde and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Robert H. 'Bob' Wentling
Robert H. "Bob" Wentling, 59, of 5143 CR 29A, Carey, died 11:38 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
He was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Carey to Thelby W. and Corrine R. (Wenzinger) Wentling. He married
Ruth A. Shaull on May 6, 1967. They divorced.
Surviving are: two sons, John J. Wentling of Sycamore and Keith A. Wentling of Carey; two daughters, Joyce A. Feasel of Alvada and Vicki L. Rodesky of McComb; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Edward Wentling, Donald Wentling and Ralph Wentling; two sisters, Jane Higgins and Virginia Patrick, all of Carey.
Mr. Wentling was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving in Korea.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey. Military graveside rites will be conducted by local Veterans' organizations.
Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A Christian Wake will be 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mae E. Swain
Mae E. Swain, 91, of 1000 Independence Road, Fostoria, died 11:05 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Independence House in Fostoria.
She was born March 19, 1911, in Gallipolis to Charles and Carrie (White) Topping. On March 7, 1938, she married
William A. Swain in Rudolph. He died Nov. 8, 1997.
Surviving are: a son, William Allen Swain of Sachse, Texas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Weaver cemetery, Bloomville Township.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Robert Earl Gruss
Robert Earl Gruss, 65, of 33 Rosewood Drive, Tiffin, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Tiffin to Orland C. and Rosemary (Dolan) Gruss. On May 30, 1964, he married
Kathleen Rita (Welborn) Gruss in St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel. She survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are: two sons, Gary Orland Gruss of Tiffin and Scott Alan Gruss of New Riegel; a daughter, Jill Suzette Gruss of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Sarah M., Kathryn D., Erin E. and Brian T. Gruss.
Mr. Gruss was a 1955 graduate of New Riegel High School and a 1963 graduate of Tiffin University. He worked as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service from 1963 until his retirement in 1992. He then worked as an accountant for C.F. Professional, Inc. from 1992 to the present.
Mr. Gruss was a member of the Knights of Columbus; Catholic Knights of Ohio; Tiffin Eagles 402; New Riegel Moose; Tiffin Elks 94; Tiffin AmVets Post 48; New Riegel American Legion and the Calvert Super Booster Hall of Fame. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
He was a US Army veteran serving from 1955 to 1958.
Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Ankenbrandt officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic cemetery, New Riegel, where Military graveside services will be conducted by the New Riegel American Legion Post 354.
Visitation will be 1-3 and 5-9 Tuesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin.
Memorials may be made to Calvert High School Boosters or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Gertrude M. Kies
Gertrude M. Kies, 86, 60 N. SR 101, Lot 110, Tiffin, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to the late Clinton M. and Marybelle (Mayo) Strong. On July 31, 1937, in Fort Wayne, she married
Vernon M. Kies, who survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald N. Kies of Tiffin and Jack E. Kies of Ft. Wayne; two daughters, Diana Magers of Almont, Col. and Carol Ogilvie of Orange, Calif.; a brother, Don Strong of Culver City, Calif. a sister, Velma Adams of Ft. Wayne; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren are pre-deceased.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home followed by a. memorial service which will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Halstead officiating.
Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
Edna M. Giles
Edna M. Giles, 80, of 380 CR 35, McCutchenville, died 5:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Wyandot Manor in Upper Sandusky.
She was born March 26, 1922, in McConnellsburg, Pa., to Henry E. and Mary Ella Grace (Sipes) Sipe. On Nov. 27, 1938, she married
Paul W. Giles. He died Aug. 11, 1987.
Surviving are: a son, Mr. William E. Giles of Medina; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Mr. Guy "Jim" Sipe of Upper Sandusky, Mr. Boyd "Bob" Sipe of Little York, Mr. Earl "Rusty" Sipe of Oceola, Mr. Lester "Les" Sipe of Bucyrus; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy (Raymond) Sipes of St. Thomas, Pa. and Mrs. Lena (Fritz) Pollock of rural Bucyrus.
She was preceded in death by two sons, George Giles, in 1963, Raymond Giles, in 2002; a grandson; seven brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Giles retired from the former Westinghouse in Upper Sandusky. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in McCutchenville. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping and traveling.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Burial will be in Brokensword cemetery in Crawford County.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ Roof Replacement Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Lewanda Molnar
Lewanda Molnar was born Dec. 28, 1907, in Bloomdale to Thomas and Elizabeth (Kepp) Thompson, the youngest of six children. She marred Lyle "Joe" McDonald on Dec. 23, 1929, in Toledo. He died March 31, 1956, she then married
John Molnar in 1971, in Bradenton, Fla. He died Feb. 9, 1987.
Surviving are a son, Roger Mc Donald of Fostoria, a daughter, Marcia Greene of Balston Lake, N.Y.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Kansas cemetery in Kansas.
Naomi K. Cook
Naomi K. Cook, 81, formerly of 1010 Marion Rd., Bucyrus and most recently at Carlisle House, died Saturday evening, Oct. 19, 2002, at Marion General Hospital as a result of declining health.
She was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Wyandot County to the late Vey and Thelma Ruth (McCormick) Kisor. On Oct. 15, 1950, she married
Kenneth Paul Cook who preceded her in death March 20, 1959.
Surviving are: a son, Kenneth Paul Cook, Jr. of Bucyrus; two grandchildren; a brother, Darrel Kisor of Dayton.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wise Funeral Home in Bucyrus. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Katharine N. Kelley
Katharine N. Kelley, of 603 S. US 1, Apt. G323, Juno Beach, Fla., formerly of Sycamore, died in her residence at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002.
The Walter-Moore Funeral Home of Sycamore is handling the arrangements.
Charles E. Callendar
Charles E. Callendar, 85, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Sun City, Ariz.
He was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Tiffin.
Survivors include: his wife, Virginia (Ginny) Callendar of Sun City, Ariz.; a son, Jim Breit of Germany; three daughters, Susan Pierce of Las Vegas, Nev., Diane Sekafetz of Roseville, Calif. and Linda Atwell of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Ruth O. Yeckley Kollat
Ruth O. Yeckley Kollat, 86, formerly of Vickery, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.
She was born on July 7, 1916, in Sandusky County to John and Nora (Opper) Yeckley.
Survivors include: a daughter, Betty Jo Perry of Toledo; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Josephine Szakovits of Fremont, Juanita Drake and Betty Meggitt, both of Vickery.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Vickery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.
Marie Alice Foss
Marie Alice Foss, 85, of Graytown, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Riverview Senior Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor.
She was born June 15, 1917, to George and Alvina (Rauch) Goetz, in Oak Harbor. On March 27, 1940, she married
Harry J. Foss, in Oak Harbor. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sharon Lucas of Tiffin and Joan Flayler of Graytown; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Lowell Goetz of Rocky Ridge and Ervin Goetz of Oak Harbor; a sister, Betty Witty of Curtice.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Oak Harbor.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home in Oak Harbor.
William J. Stiger
William J. Stiger, 69, of South Main Street, Clyde, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born Oct. 12, 1933, in East Cleveland, to the late George and Violet (Felkey) Stiger. On Feb. 20, 1954, he married
Judith (Hughes) Stiger. She survives in Clyde.
Other survivors include: a son, David Stiger of New Port, Mich.; three daughters, Lenora Ashby of Clyde, Theresa Stiger of Sandusky and Trish Cooley of Clyde; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Stiger of Oklahoma; a sister, Mary Butcher of Virginia.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Masonic services at 5:45 p.m.
Vernon W. Van Fleet
Vernon W. Van Fleet, 82, of SR 133 E., Bellevue, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
He was born April 5, 1920, in Bellevue, to Leonard B. and Mae V. (Warthen) Van Fleet. On Nov. 26, 2942, he married
Marjory A. (Heter) Van Fleet. She survives in Bellevue.
Other survivors include: a son, Robert Van Fleet of Milan; a daughter, Mrs. Stanley McPeek of Columbia, Tenn.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lynn Van Fleet of Clyde and David Van Fleet of Bellevue.
Mr. Van Fleet was a World War II U.S. Navy, quartermaster 1st class, veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Auxter Funeral Home in Bellevue. Burial will be in Bellevue cemetery, Bellevue, where military graveside services will be provided by the Bellevue American Legion and the Bellevue VFW.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
