Melissa Elizabeth Steele
Melissa Elizabeth Steele, 31, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at her family's home in Johnsontown Pa.
She was born Jan. 8, 1971, to George and Elizabeth Steele of Fremont. Both survive in Fremont.
Other survivors include: a brother, Joseph Steele of Fremont; two sisters, Mrs. Joanne (Steven) Cartwright of Johnsontown, Pa. and Alecia Steele of Cleveland.
There will be a private showing for family on Tuesday at the Frank Duca Funeral Home in Johnsontown, Pa.
Memorial services will be at a later date.

Betty Madeline Sharkey
Betty Madeline Sharkey, 76, of Sandusky County Road, Clyde, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the daughter's home in Castalia.
She was born June 5, 1926, in Parersburg, W.Va. to the late John A. and Minnie L. (Stanley) Corbin. She married
Valloyd E. Sharkey on Sept. 18, 1944. He died Feb. 5, 1995.
Surviving are: two sons, William Knots of Akron and Ernest Sharkey of Castalia; two daughters Madeline Riedy of Castalia and Tina Sharkey of Clyde; a sister, Nellie Vranish of Clyde and a half-sister, Martha McEowen of Sandusky.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be in Parkhurst cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Johnny 'Marshall' Graham
Johnny "Marshall" Graham, 48, of North Fifth St., Fremont, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon, Ohio, where he died of Beryllium Disease.
He was born Feb. 27, 1954 in Chicago, Ill., to Dudley an Izola B. (Eison) Graham II.
Surviving are: his mother, Izola Graham ; three sisters, Diana (Raymond) Wilson of Westland, Mich., Gloria and Debbie Graham of Fremont; two brothers, Dudley B. Graham III and Damon A. Graham, both of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Robert Graham.
Mr. Graham was employed by Whirlpool Corp. as a laborer for 11 years. Prior to that, he was employed by Brush Wellman for nine years and also as a traffic controller for the City of Fremont.
He was a 1972 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and a member of the First Baptist Missionary Church.
Mr. Graham was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam Era.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, 425 E. State St., Fremont. (419) 332-6409. Pastor William Holmes will be officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Fremont.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Herma Miller (Matz)
Herma Elizabeth Miller (Matz), 92, formerly of Port Clinton Rd., Fremont, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in Countryside Continuing Care Center.
She was born Dec. 23, 1909, in Clyde, to George E. and Bessie (Rule) (Spotts) Matz. She married
Henry Randall Miller on June 2, 1934, in Seneca. He died Jan. 4, 1980.
Surviving are: a son, Larry Jon (Sally) Miller of Anderson, S.C.; two daughters, Carole Del Miller and Janet Kay (Robert) Dorr, both of Fremont; a half-brother, Vernon Spotts of Republic; a half-sister, Lois Boyd of Republic; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Randall Miller; a son, William Burke Miller; a brother, Kenneth Matz and a grandson, William Tad Miller.
Mrs. Miller was the cafeteria manager with Ross Jr. High School form 1959-1964. She had taught in a one room country school in Adams Twp., Seneca County.
She was a 1927 graduate of Green Springs High School and a 1933 graduate of Bowling Green Normal School. Mrs. Miller was a member of AARP and Golden Thread of Memorial Hospital; a past member of Col. George Croghan Chapter, DAR and Buckeye Council of Campfire. She loved working crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed playing the piano.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Robert Quillen officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob's cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, 425. E. State St. in Fremont. (419) 332-6506 and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church.

Ruth L. Weinandy
Ruth L. Weinandy, 86, of rural Tiffin, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002.
She was born April 19, 1916, in Attica, to the late Elmer L. and Ora B. (McNatt) Bollinger. On Feb. 18, 1939, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married
Robert P. Weinandy. He died Sept. 29, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Robert E. (Dolores) Weinandy of Tiffin; three daughters, Mary Alice (Joseph) Saalman of Fremont, Rose Bouillon of New Riegel and Eileen L. (Harold) Foos of Helena; a brother, Harold Bollinger of Attica; three sisters, Doris (Ralph) Spitler of Florida, Cleona (Leonard) Stockmaster of Attica and Iola Williams of Republic; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Wayland Bollinger; an infant sister and a grandson, are deceased.
Mrs. Weinandy, a 1933 graduate of Attica High School, was a dairy farmer and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, but recently attended St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown.
A funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown, with the Rev. Conrad Sutter officiating. The rosary will be prayed at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will take place at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, F.A.C.T. or St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Urban 'Urbie' O. Wurm
Urban "Urbie" O. Wurm, 77, of 5140 E. SR 18, Republic, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Ruffing Family Care Center of Bloomville.
He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in New Washington to Linus and Lillian (Heydinger) Wurm. He married
Phyllis Meier on Nov. 17, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. She survives in Republic.
Also surviving are: three sons, David U. Wurm of Dublin, Daniel G. Wurm of Worthington, Andrew J. Wurm of Delaware; a daughter, Diane M. Wurm of Republic; a brother, Eugene Wurm of New Washington; three grandchildren, John, Lexie and Jacob wurm.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda K. Wurm, two brothers, John and Vincent Wurm and a sister, Jeanette Nevius.
Mr. Wurm graduated from New Washington High School and was a retired roofing contractor and farmer. He was the former owner and founder of Republic Roofing.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus; AmVets Post 48 and Eagles Aerie Post, Fremont. Mr. Wurm was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army W W II veteran.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Msgr. Edward Dunn officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home in Tiffin. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Friday.

Thomas O. Ingman
Thomas O. Ingman, 75, formerly of 101 Benton St., Lot 5, Sycamore and as of last year at Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, died 8:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Firelands Community Hospital in Sandusky.
He was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Wyandot County, to Orville D. and Edna (Miller) Ingman. He marred Bonnie (Geary) Ingman on July 26, 1949. They are divorced.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Vicki (Joe L.) Weininger of Sycamore, Mrs. Cindy (John) Bates of rural Sycamore; four grandchildren, Nicole Smith of Tiffin, John Thomas Bates of Findlay, Clay Weininger and Calli Weininger of Sycamore; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mary Ann (Gary) Schmidt of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Pearce and an infant brother.
Mr. Ingman was a retired caster from American Standard in Tiffin, where he had worked for 44 years. He was a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church; life member of the Sycamore American Legion Post 250; life member of Tiffin Amvets; member of the Tiffin VFW; Mohawk Historical Society; Pheasants Forever, Wyandot County Chapter; Carey Conservation Club and Roger's Lake Conservation Club.
He liked to bowl, golf and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Ingman was a W W II U.S. Army veteran.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, Seneca County, with a military graveside service conducted by the Sycamore American Legion Post 250.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home, Sycamore Legion Ballfield, or Mohawk Historical Society.
Theodore V.N. Diller
Theodore V.N. Diller, 85, died at 8:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, in the Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin, where he resided. He formerly resided with his daughter, Rebecca, at 2418 E. SR 18.
He was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Montclair, N.J., to the late Alfred W. and Marion H. (Wigtin) Diller. On Dec. 22, 1942, in Wilton, Conn. he married
Jane Meek, who survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Rebecca Croom of Tiffin and Mona Price of Madison, N.C.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Robert Diller; a brother, Kendrick Diller and a sister, Barbara Diller, are deceased.
A retired teacher for Brookside School in Norwalk, Conn., he touched many young children's lives for 30 years. He was a member of Wilton Friends Meeting in Wilton, Conn. He was a world traveler and also collected stamps and post marks from the age of 17. He also lived in Spring Hill, Fla., before moving to Ohio. Mr. Diller was a World War II Army veteran and served in Europe from 1942 until the end of the war.
There will be a private service at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Silver Mine cemetery in Connecticut. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
James F. Long
Memorial service for James F. Long, 81, of Tiffin, who died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Blevins officiating.
Military graveside service, at Green Lawn cemetery, will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Estella K. May-Berry
Estella K. May-Berry, 75, of Fostoria and Toledo, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in Charles Hospital in Oregon.
She was born June 28, 1927, in Collingwood, Tenn., to Elmer and Edna J. (Nelson) Keaton. Both are deceased.
She married
Hershel Berry. They divorced and he survives in Florida.
She then married
Ernest May. They divorced and he survives in Sardinia.
Other survivors include: seven sons, Kenneth R. Berry of Toledo, Benny P. Berry of Owensboro, Ky., Bill G. Berry of Owensboro, Ky., Jerry H. Berry of Northwood, Byron Berry of Toledo, Myron Berry of Cincinnati and Ricky R. Berry of Toledo; two daughters, Reba M. Watson of Toledo and Martha L. Locke of Oregon; 30 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clifford Keaton of Texas, Alfred Keaton of Florida and Arthur Keaton of Indiana; and a sister, Mary Jo Jones of Texas.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Mary Alice Shultz
Mary Alice "Skipper" Shultz, 91, of 56 Lincoln Road, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
She was born June 27, 1911, in Tiffin to William and Laura (Douwalter) Escher; they are both deceased. She married
Gilbert Shultz June 25, 1935, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. He died March 5, 1974.
Survivors include: two sons, Gil Shultz of Northville, Mich., and James C. Shultz of Chicago; a daughter, Mary Lou "Corky" Scherer of Bloomville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were: a granddaughter, Kathy; a brother, John Escher; and a sister, Fanny Lou Escher.
She graduated from Calvert High School; received a BA degree from Heidelberg College; and attended Ursuline Academy in Tiffin. She was a teacher of science and taught 35 years in Tiffin St. Joseph, Fostoria St. Wendelin and New Riegel Schools.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, chairman and secretary of Tiffin Shade Tree and Beautification Commission, charter member Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and volunteer, past-president of Seneca County Retired Teachers Association, past-president and past 2nd vice president Heidelberg North Central Science Society, president St. Joseph Rosary-Altar Society, past-president Seneca County Teachers Association, past-president Betty Jane, and a member of St. Francis Auxiliary. She received the 1972 Science Award "Teacher of the Year" from the Ohio Academy of Science North Central District and did volunteer services for Mercy Hospital, Betty Jane, Info Center and many others.
Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. James K. Say officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church, where the Rosary will be said at 12:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

Virginia B. Harden
Virginia B. Harden, 71, of 628 Woodward Ave., Fostoria, died at 11:09 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born May 12, 1931, in Carey to Virgil and Mary Leona (Frey) Thompson. They are deceased. She married
Watson O. "Bud" Harden Aug. 27, 1950, in Fostoria. He survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two sons, Terry D. of Fostoria, and Harvey J. "Jay" of Cygnet; two daughters, Diana Pitts of Fostoria, and Rexella "Sis" Devylder of Defiance; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman "Bill" Thompson of Findlay; and a stepbrother, Jack Brubaker of Fostoria.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with interment in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where Eagles Auxiliary Memorial Services will be conducted at 7 p.m.
John Bruner
John Bruner, 77, of 201 Elm, Bettsville, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in an automobile accident in Sandusky County. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.
Cyril J. 'Sonny' Metzger
Cyril J. "Sonny" Metzger, 78, of 8100 W. Big Spring TR 56, New Riegel, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Shelby to Frank and Olivia (Schlachter) Metzger and they are deceased. He married
Irene S. Morse July 22, 1944, in St. Michael Catholic Church, Findlay and she survives. They had been married
for 58 years.
Other survivors include: two sons, John A. and Nancie Metzger, and Larry J. and Patricia Metzger all of Carey; two daughters, Sandy Zoeller, and Mrs. Steve (Sharon) Kimmet all of New Riegel; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mark Metzger of Frenchtown, and John "Jack" Metzger of Toledo; seven sisters, Mrs. Lucy Flechtner of Tiffin, Marsha Gerber of Fremont, Gertrude "Gertie" Hess of Tiffin, Mrs. Raymond (Theresa) Schindler of Harrison, Mrs. Paul (Rita) DeRose of Tiffin, Mrs. Joseph (Nan) Hohman of Vermilion and Mrs. John (Donna) Durbin of Sandusky.
Preceding him in death included: a son, James F. Metzger; a son-in-law, John C. Zoeller; a brother, Francis "Fritz" Metzger; and a sister, Betty.
At a young age he took over the home farm and continued to farm throughout his lifetime; retired in 1976 from Bendix Auto-Lite in Fostoria after 30 years of employment; a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown, Fostoria United Sportsman Club, New Riegel Moose Post 872, Fostoria Knights of Columbus, and UAW Local 533. He enjoyed hunting, butchering and making wine.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev. Conrad Sutter officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, and 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. A Christian wake service will be at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent ICU or Palliative Care Unit or to a charity of the donor's choice.
