Delia M. Ramirez

Delia M. Ramirez, 73, of 1159 Brace Ave., Tiffin, died 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

She was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Lockland, Ohio, to the late Gordon Henry and Pearl (Ramsey) Schultz. She married Dee W. Davis and he is deceased. She then married Salome Ramirez Sr. He is also deceased.

Surviving are: a son, Salome Ramirez Jr. of Toledo; five daughters, Deeanna Sours of Tennessee, Dora Jean Bierbaum of Bucyrus, Donna Ryan, Linda Klingshirn and Beverleen Stull, all of Tiffin; two brothers, Raymond Phelps of Reading and Hubert Schultz of Cincinnati; a sister, Thelma Wooten of Indiana; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

There will be no funeral. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Richard Lee Runion

Richard Lee Runion, 72, of 88 First Ave. died Thursday, May 30, 2002, in Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.

He was born July 12, 1929, in Genoa to Carl and Viola (Taylor) Runion; they are deceased. He married Joyce E. Lofton April 14, 1951, in Tiffin; and she survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Richard A. and (Linda) Runion of Tiffin, Gary E. and (Brenda) Runion of Tiffin, Timmy and (Sherry) Runion of Tiffin, and Chester and (Lori) Runion of Bedford, Ky.; two daughters, Mrs. William (Tina) Mizen III of Tiffin, and Tara Runion of Sycamore; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald and Edward Runion of Tiffin; and four sisters, Mrs. James (Ida) Bell, Mrs. Cecil (Alice) Fitch, Mrs. Haskel (Rita) Fitch, and Mrs. Garland (Gloria) Fitch all of Tiffin.

Also deceased are: a daughter, Marilyn Kidwell; four brothers, Kenneth, Lyle, Carl and Dale Runion; and a sister, Carol.

He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict; a pressman at Basic Refractories for 20 years retiring in 1985; and a member of the Protestant Faith and the V.F.W., Tiffin Post 2858.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2002, in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with the Rev. Gail Angel officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery with graveside service conducted by United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.

James J. Rippinger

James J. Rippinger, 77, of Aurora, Ill., passed away suddenly at his home in Marywood, Ill. Wednesday, May 29, 2002. He was born June 9, 1924, in North Aurora, Ill., the son of Josephine and Joseph Rippinger.

He was a graduate of Marmion Military Academy and served proudly with the U.S. Navy as an electrician mate 2nd class in New Guinea during World War II. He retired from Western Electric as an electrical engineer after 30 years in 1988. Jim was an avid gardener and spent much of his time beautifying his yard. He was also an avid reader and a member of Annunciation Church, Fox Valley Amateur HAM Radio Club, Aurora Moose and Knights of Columbus.

Jim was a dedicated family man and will be missed by many. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 54 years, Alice; his son James (Yvonne) of Aurora; his daughters, Mary Melicher of Aurora and Patricia (Paul) Walker of Millbrook, Ill.; his grandchildren, Dawn (Mark) Batchelor of Yorkville, Ill., Angela (Colin)_ Prichard of Chicago and Heather Walker of Millbrook; and his great-grandchildren, Sydney and Hannah Batchelor; three brothers, Joseph (Helen) Rippinger of Aurora, David (Rena) Rippinger of North Aurora, Phillip (Jan) Rippinger of North Aurora; and his sister, Emily (John) Galles of Aurora.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steve; two brothers, Lt. Francis and John and his parents Josephine and Joseph.

Funeral from the Daleiden Lake Street Mortuary will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 3 to Annunciation Church at 10 a.m. Concelebrated Mass will be offered by Father Mario Pedi, O.S.B. and Jim's nephew, Father Joel Rippinger, O.S.B. with interment at Marywood cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday with a liturgical wake service at 7 p.m. at The Daleiden Lake Street Mortuary, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora, (630) 898-8634. www,daleidenmortuary.com

Albert Burdette Barnes

Albert Burdette Barnes, 83, of Gallatin, Tenn., for the past seven years, a former longtime resident of Findlay, died 7:45 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at his daughter's residence in Tiffin.

He was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Arcadia to John and Maggie (Beamer) Barnes. He married Elsie Yoakam on March 8, 1944.

Surviving are: his wife, Elsie Barnes; three sons, Larry Barnes of Tennessee, David Barnes of Findlay and Dennis Barnes of Tennessee.; two daughters, Cinda Aiello of Tiffin and Rebecca Cease of Tennessee.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Amy McDaniel of Findlay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Mr. Barnes retired from Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. in 1973, where he was employed for 20 years. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Barnes was a 58-year member of the First Assembly of God Church in Findlay.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Assembly of God, 124 Ash Ave., Findlay. Burial will be in Arcadia cemetery, with military rites by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Routson Funeral Chapel, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay.

Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Church in Henderson, Tenn.

Virginia Alice Robbins

Virginia Alice (Thatcher) Robbins, 84, died at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at her home, 7 W. Market St., Tiffin.

She was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Denver, Colo. to George Frank and Alice Ella (Battles) Thatcher. On Jan. 22, 1946, she married Chester Arthur Robbins in Las Vegas, N.M. To them were born two daughters, Susie Patricia (Robbins) Swartzmiller, of Bascom and Carol Ann (Robbins) Nichols of Denver.

Surviving are four grandsons, Mark Allen Nichols of Denver, Wade Orrin Nichols of Taipei, Taiwan, Walter George Swartzmiller of Tiffin and Robert Michael Swartzmiller of Bascom. Also she leaves three great-grandsons, Joshua Luke, Kenneth James and Chester Robbins Swartzmiller, and one son-in-law, Robert George Swartzmiller, all of Bascom. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Ralph LeRoy, Vernon Frank and Dale Merton Thatcher. She also leaves a large family of nieces and nephews.

She was raised on her parents' homestead in Lake George, Colo. near the base of Pikes Peak. Her parents met and married during the Colorado gold rush in the boom towns of Cripple Creek and Haymon. Virginia spent her childhood and early adult life helping raise a large truck garden (especially potatoes, which she refused to eat later), taking care of animals, farming a dry-land farm and riding her horses in the surrounding mountains. After her marriage, she moved to the large Lewis Robbins cattle ranch on the Tarryalle in Jefferson, Colo. In 1954, Virginia and Chet bought their own cattle ranch at Collbran, Colo., which they ran together until Chet's death, June 20, 1972. She later built her retirement home (Trails End) near the Nichols family in Molina, Colo. She moved to Ohio in 1992, before her first great-grandson's birth.

Virginia's favorite pastimes included riding horses, trapping and hunting, caring for animals, gardening and sharing her love of four wheelers with her four grandsons. Her closest companions were her many dogs, especially Mickey, given to her by her father, and Frisky, her last dog. After moving to Ohio, she enjoyed traveling, watching the antics of her great-grandsons, Luke and Kenny's ball games and taking Sunday drives. She was always very strong-willed and furiously independent, which she maintained until her death.

She chose cremation with no services, but requested her family return her ashes to her beloved mountains at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Kiwanis Manor, 7 West Market St., Tiffin, OH 44883 or to a charity of the donor's choice. Turner-Engle Funeral is in charge of arrangements.

Hazel P. Moore

Hazel P. Moore, 96, of 104 Center St., Tiffin, died 9:58 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Autumnwood Care Center, where she had been a resident for one week.

She was born Jan. 22, 1906 in Seneca Township, Seneca County, to the late Benjamin and Mary (Wagner) Sours. She married Herbert H. Moore on Jan. 20, 1923, at the residence of the husband's aunt, Mary Drew, in Tiffin. He died Jan. 7, 1990.

Other survivors include: three sons, Gene E. Moore of Rockledge, Fla., Wayne L. Moore of Tiffin, and William P. Moore of Urbana; a daughter, Mrs. Clara (Richard) Runion of Tiffin; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Moore; three grandchildren; two brothers, Russell Sours and Arther Sours; and four sisters, Irene Collins, Florence Miller, Ellen Robinson and Eunice Gittinger.

Mrs. Moore was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Tiffin, the church's Christian Women's Fellowship and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Order of the Moose.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Linda S. Carlson officiating.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Larry Steven Rapp

Larry Steven Rapp, 48, of Castalia St., Fremont, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1953, in Fremont to Harry and Wilma (Adkins) Rapp. He married Judy (Smith) Rapp on April 24, 1987 in Fremont.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Rapp of Fremont; two sons, Kyle Lee Rapp of Fremont and Wesley Steven Rapp of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Danylle Smith of Fremont; parents, Harry and Wilma Rapp Sr. of Fremont; his grandfather, Harold Hoffman; a brother, Harry Rapp Jr. of Fremont; and two sisters, Terri Laeng and Robin Beal, both of Fremont.

Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Clyde.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Jason M. Banks

Jason M. Banks, 18, of 301 E. North St., Anna, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Myrtle Beach, S. C.

He was born March 3, 1984, in Findlay to Jeffrey and Debra (Heminger) Banks. Both parents survive in Anna.

Other survivors include: two sisters, Jessica Billing and Melea Bensman, both of Anna; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George B. Banks, and maternal grandparents, Glen Heminger and the late Doris Heminger, all of Tiffin.

Mr. Banks graduated from Anna High School Class of 2002. Jason received the Outstanding Senior Athletic Award and lettered in baseball, basketball and golf all of his high school years. He was a state qualifier in golf for the 2000-2001 year and he was the 2001 Shelby County Golfer of the Year. He received All-Ohio honors in basketball. Jason was a member of the National Honor Roll, member of Student Council and Who's Who among American Students and Athletes. He was planning on attending Ohio State University and majoring in engineering this fall. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Church cemetery in NcCartyville, Ohio.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main St., Sidney, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Jason Banks Scholarship Fund, c/o The Anna High School Athletic Dept., 1 McRill Way, Anna, OH 45302.

Gilmore Jean 'John' Eidt

Gilmore Jean "John" Eidt, 77, of Palm Springs Calif., died May 19, 2002, in Palm Desert, Calif.. He was born Feb. 17, 1925, to Jacob and May Fast Eidt in Maple Grove, Ohio. He graduated from Tiffin Business College.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was Officers Club manager for the Flying Tigers in Saigon, moving them to AL. He spent his remaining years in California. He was a life member of VFW Post 10697, Palm Springs, holding state and local offices; president of Desert Veterans Memorial Association (those responsible for the flags and ceremony at the cemetery on Ramon) at the time of his death. He was a member of American Legion Post 519 and was adjutant and bar manager. He was involved with the Palm Springs High School Air Force ROTC. He will be greatly missed by his friends.

He is survived by two brothers, Earl of Galion and Richard of Tiffin and a son, Steve, of Tiffin. He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Kenneth and Corky and a sister Beverly.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m., June 22 at American Legion Post 519, 400 N. Belardo Road, Palm Springs, 92264, 760-325-6229.

Leonard W. Theiry

Leonard W. Theiry, 79, of 1341 South SR 19 Republic, died Friday afternoon, May 31, 2002, in the emergency room at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, after a sudden illness.

He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Fostoria, to Jacob and Barbara E. (Eisley) Theiry.

He is survived by: longtime companion, Martha Soski of Republic; a daughter and son-in-law, Anthony and Rebecca Searcy of University Heights, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Tymothy and Joan Theiry of Inverness, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Luke (Sue) Kerns of Tiffin and Mrs. Sue Ashton of Rossford, Ohio; a stepson, Mark Soski of Bellevue; two grandchildren, Mrs. Raya Summers of Greensboro, N.C. and Rani Shields of Oakwood Village, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Branden and Jordon Summers of Greensboro, N.C. and Nicholas Shields of Oakwood Village, Ohio; a brother, Gerald Theiry of Bradenton, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Gray of Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Banks and a brother, Herman Theiry.

Mr. Theiry retired from National Machinery in 1985, where he was employed as a tool maker for 38 years. He was a W II Marine Corp. veteran, serving as a presidential guard for President Roosevelt. A member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Republic, the St. Aloysius Knights of Columbus Council 11287, the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and a life member of the Tiffin VFW.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19 Bloomville. The Quarter Century Club will have a visitation at 7 p.m., and the St. Aloysius Knights of Columbus will have services and recite the Rosary at 8:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

A memorial mass will be announced at a later date.

John W. Gutknecht

John W. Gutknecht, 92, of West Ridge Dr., Fostoria, died 6:43 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at his home.

He was born June 17, 1909 in Toledo to Otto and Ida (Gohlke) Gutknecht. On July 12, 1934, he married Oletha Buck in Fostoria.

Surviving are his wife Oletha "B." Gutknecht of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Kristine (Jerry) Courtney of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Susan Kundu, Anne and Jason Courtney; two great-grandchildren, Jane and Jacob Kundu.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Gutknecht retired in 1997 as a lawyer in Fostoria with 65 years of service. He was a 1926 graduate of Fostoria High School, 1931 Graduate of Ohio Northern with a degree in Law and Attended Ohio Northern Law School. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He served as Solicitor and Judge of Municipal Court City of Fostoria; Past President and board member for Commercial Bank with over 30 years of service. Mr. Gutknecht was a Fostoria City School Board member and founding President of Fostoria Hospital Association, Past board member of Fostoria YMCA, member of Fostoria American Legion, Past Exalted Ruler of Fostoria Elks Lodge. Member of Fostoria Lodge 288 F& AM (56 yrs.), Garfield Chapter 150, Fostoria Council 90, Fostoria Commandery 62 Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Fostoria Shrine Club, and Zenobia Temple of Toledo. He was a charter member of Hill Top Lodge, member of Valley Creek Lodge and Fostoria Country Club.

Funeral will be private and there will be visitation.

Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard L. Pauley

Richard L. Pauley, 65, of 40 Darby Road, Tiffin, died 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at home.

He was born March 19, 1937 in Dunbar, W. Va., to Charles E. and Anna (Stewart) Pauley. His mother survives in Eolia, Ky. On April 6, 1957, he married Ida (Muller) Pauley. She survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include: three sons, Terry L. Pauley of Sycamore, Tony Pauley of Rural Sycamore and Mark A. Pauley of Lakeland, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Kathy (Gary) Keller and Mrs. Debora (James) Fox, both of Rural Sycamore; six grandchildren; four brothers, Charles W. Pauley of Sycamore, Larry A. Pauley of Lakeland, Fla., Paul Pauley of Eolia, Ky., Robert Pauley of Sycamore; two sisters, Loretta Morgan of Sycamore and Mrs. Roxanna (Eugene) Parsons of Eolia, Ky.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Ronald L. Pauley and Clarence E. Pauley.

Mr. Pauley was a retired Sergeant First Class, United States Army, retiring in 1974 after 20 years of service, He served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation with Honor and also the Air Medal. Mr. Pauley attended Our Master's Chapel in Benton, Ohio. He loved his family and children.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Our Master's Chapel, Benton, Ohio. Burial will be in Benton cemetery in Crawford County.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore.

Memorials may be made to Our Master's Chapel, Benton, Ohio or to a charity of the donor's choice.

The body will lie in state 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Helen F. Fraver

Helen F. Fraver, 84, formerly of CR 60, Fostoria, Resident of Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Good Shepherd.

She was born Nov. 6, 1917 in Moline, Ohio, to Raymond and Mary (Funk) Muir. On Aug. 12, 1951 she married Ivan E. Fraver in Fostoria. He died June 14, 1996.

Surviving are: a son, Daniel Fraver of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Miriam Holt of Gibsonburg and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. There will be Delta Kappa Gamma Service 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
