John A. Martin
John A. Martin, 87, died 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
He was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Griffin, Ga., to Alfred and Julia Ella (Johnson) Martin. He married
Agnes (Slaughter) Martin on Nov. 25, 1934. She is deceased.
Survivors include: four sons, John Alfred Martin of Cleveland, Edward Martin, Gary Martin, Larry Martin, all of Fostoria; a brother, Willie L. Martin of Fostoria; a sister, Margaret Kendall of Atlanta, Ga.; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia.
Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Richard F. Kinninger
Richard F. Kinninger, 76, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, in Walnut Creek, Calif.
He was born July 28, 1925, to the late Herman C. and Marcella (Dell) Kinninger in Cleveland. He married
Jessica York in 1968.
Survivors include: his wife, Jessica (York) Kinninger and daughter Julie Kinninger, both of Chicago; two sisters, Mary Alice Fox of Tiffin and Florence Kruszynski of Fostoria.
Services will be noon Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Tiffin. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. until the service, Saturday, at the church.
Mary Jane Wetzel
Mary Jane Wetzel, 83, formerly of Toledo, of 165 Clinton Ave., Tiffin, died at 8:31 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
She was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Milton and Ruby (McNicol) Nash, but was raised by Ola Burnham who is deceased. She married
Kenneth G. Wetzel May 19, 1940, at the Washington St. United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Kenneth G. Wetzel of Tiffin, two sons, James D. Wetzel of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kenneth R. "Dick" Wetzel of Renton, Wash.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jacqueline Pope of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Nash.
Mrs. Wetzel has been a resident of Tiffin since 1933. She was a homemaker and member of of the First Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Tiffin Chapter 189 O.E.S. and P.M. 1965, Knights Templar, the Ladies Club and Past President Denderoah and Past President of Tiffin Club. Mrs Wetzel was a 1937 graduate of Columbian High School.
Eastern Star Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Margaret M. Marks officiating. Burial will be at Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Shrine, Crippled Children or The First Lutheran Church.
Sylvia June Pool
Sylvia June Pool, 67, 781 Greenfield St., Tiffin, formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in the Seneca House.
She was born June 9, 1934, in Tiffin, to John and Pearl (Duncan) McCray. They survive in Tiffin. She was married
to Donald Pool, and they later divorced. He is deceased.
Other survivors include: a son, Michael Pool of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Lois) Hufford of Sycamore; and two grandchildren, Zach and Kala Hufford.
A 1952 graduate of Columbian High School, Mrs. Pool was an assistant librarian at DeVry Institute of Technology in Columbus. She was a member of the Protestant faith.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with the Rev. Carol L. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice of Toledo or Seneca House, 781 Greenfield St., Tiffin, Ohio.
Richard F. Kinninger

J. Franklin Stoner
J. Franklin Stoner, 84, of East Howard St., Willard, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard.
He was born in Attica to the late Frank and Clara (Fike) Stoner. He married
Marcella (Cook) Stoner. Mr. Stoner was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific for three years.
Survivors include: his wife, Marcella (Cook) Stoner of Willard; a son, John Stoner Jr. of Attica; three grandchildren.
At the request of the deceased, no services are planned.
The family will have interment of the ashes at a later date.
The Secor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Shirley A. Brown
Shirley A. Brown, 67, 486 S. 7th St., Upper Sandusky, died at 7:32 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
She was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Michigan to the late Harold J. and Margaret G. (Hochrine) Swartz. She married
James D. Brown.
Survivors include: her husband, James D. Brown of Upper Sandusky; five sons, Michael J. Brown of Nevada, Ohio, Jeffrey D. Brown of Brownstown, Timothy D. Brown, Glenn A. Brown and James T. Brown, all of Upper Sandusky; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Frederick D. Swartz of Upper Sandusky.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Wesley Richard Harpley
Wesley Richard Harpley, 92, of North Main Street, Fostoria, died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care Center.
He was born June 22, 1909, in Florence, Ohio, to William and Clara (Conant) Harpley. He married
Edith M. Kyle, Oct. 30, 193, in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Survivors include: his wife, Edith Kyle of Fostoria; a son, Christopher C. Harpley of Wellington, Fla.; two daughters, Patricia MacTavish of Spring Lake, Mich., and Penelope Justice of Kansas, Ohio; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
J. Franklin Stoner
J. Franklin Stoner, 84, of East Howard Street, Willard, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard.
He was born in Attica to the late Frank and Clara (Fike) Stoner.
Survivors include: his wife, Marcella (Cook) Stoner of Willard, whom he married
63 years ago; a son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Dodie Stoner of Attica; three grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Mike Daniel of Attica, Kim and John Waggoner of Attica and Troy and Angie Stoner of Arcadia; six great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.
A sister, Helen Shoup, is deceased.
Mr. Stoner graduated from Attica High School in the class of 1935. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific for three years.
He was a water/sewage superintendent in Attica and various other Ohio cities. He retired in 1981 from Ohio EPA.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Attica and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Willard.
At the request of the deceased, no services are planned. The family will have interment of the ashes at a later date. Causes Mr. Stoner supported were the Salvation Army, the Ohio Historical Society and the Nature Conservancy.

Edgar Little
Edgar Little, 88, passed away at Memorial Hospital, Fremont, on Friday, March 29, 2002. He was born in Paulding, Ohio, to John and Viola (Bunn) Little.
A graduate of Old Fort High School, he worked for many years for Bliss's Sohio in Fremont. He liked to play golf. He lived at Valley View Nursing Home in Fremont for the past year and a half, and was member of the Little Church in the Valley.
Survivors are nieces and nephews.
Deceased are sisters Nora Burris, Fern Hade, Blanche Wolfe, Leota Harnden, Vivian Little and Opal Kizer; three brothers, Harvey Little, Delbert Little and Alva Little.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Valley View at 2 p.m.
Russell O. Colwell
Russell O. Colwell, 87, of 637 Skyline Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Wyandot County Nursing Home. He was born June 6, 1914, to Alan C. and Eda (Cain) Colwell. On July 30, 1937, he married
Geraldine Firman. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, William R. Colwell of Petersburg, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Gatchell of Upper Sandusky; two brothers, Tom and Leland Colwell, both of Delaware; three sisters, Flossie Skeels and Idella Fickle, both of Delaware, and Rena Weatherholt of Huntington, W.Va.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bringman Clark & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation hours are 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Catherine 'Kitty' Trigg
Catherine L. "Kitty" Trigg, 48, of Delaware, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, April 3, 2002, at Riverside Hospital, Columbus. She was born Feb. 1, 1954, to the late Archie L. and Mary Catherine (Reinhard) Trigg.
Surviving are: five sisters, Mrs. Rose Mary Feasel of Delaware, Mrs. Margaret Webster of Richwood, Dorothy Patingale of Ashley, Mrs. Patricia Havens of Delaware and Mrs. Joan Cahill of Tiffin; three brothers, Edmund Trigg of Moose, Wyo., James and Archie J. Trigg, both of Delaware.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, at St. Mary Church, 82 E. William St., Delaware. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery.
DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Wilbur F. Kline
Wilbur F. Kline, 88, of Gibsonburg, died Thursday morning, April 4, 2002, at his home.
He was born in Elmore, Ohio on Jan. 7, 1914, to Fred and Amanda E. (Magsig) Kline.
Wilbur was a life-long farmer in the Gibsonburg area and raised Ayrshire Dairy Cattle. In addition to his farming he sold Certified Farm Seed, worked at Hayward Hay Mill in Oak Harbor, Lownsbury Chevrolet in Toledo, Rossford Ordnance Depot, Atlas Machining in Woodville, Great Western Sugar in Fremont and Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Luckey. He retired in 1993.
Wilbur belonged to the Trinity United Church of Christ in Elliston, Ohio and its Church Council and was a member of the Ohio Certified Seed Association over 25 years, the Sandusky County Farm Bureau and was an honorary Gibsonburg FFA Chapter Farmer.
On April 14, 1938, he married
Verna E. Helle in Sandusky. She survives. Also surviving are: sons, Robert of Helena, Elwood of Bellevue, Neb., Thomas of Gibsonburg, Donald E. of Phoenix, Ariz. and Charles of Shreveport, La.; daughters, Janice (Kenneth) Deiter of Wayne and Nancy (Richard) Campbell of Gibsonburg; sister, Mae Friar of Lindsey; 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Ellison, where his body will lie in state one hour prior to the start of the service. Friends and family will be welcome at the Nopper-Veh Funeral Home in Gibsonburg 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.
Committal services will be private at Elliston cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, the Gibsonburg Volunteer Fire Departments or to the Church Building Fund.
Sam Brown
Vernon Samuel Brown II passed away Thursday, March 28, 2002, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 9, 1930.
He was preceded in death in death by his parents, Alice and Vernon Brown; a brother, James Brown; and sisters Janice Boehler and Jackie Lockart.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of eight years whom he loved the most, Linda A. Brown; sisters Alice (Jim Homan and Anne (Bill) Lovett; children, Stephen Brown, Victoria (Joel) Swinehart, Vernon Samuel (Tina) Brown III, Jennifer (Tom) Nowe, Kirstopher (Sheryl) Brown, and Lisa Woods; and the children's mother, Suzanne Brown.
He is also survived by his step-children: Teresa (Mike) Delgado, Stephanie (Tom) Wilkinson and Brian Bates; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brown will be greatly missed by friends, not only here in Tiffin, but across the country.
Private family services were held. Donations in his honor should be made to the Tuscon Botannical Garden or the American Cancer Society.
