Sam P. Kendrick
Sam P. Kendrick, 74, of Centerville, died Monday morning, March 18, 2002 at the V.A. Medical Center in Dayton.
He was born May 21, 1927, in Mobile, Ala., son of Mamie Kendrick.
Mr. Kendrick was enlisted in the Navy in Aug. 1944 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. He was in the Philippines during their liberation. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. in 1950, and he served in the Korean Conflict. After serving in the Marines, he joined the Air Force in 1958, and he remained in service to his country until 1964. Mr. Kendrick received many honors, medals and commendations during his service to our nation, including Good Conduct medals, the World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service, National Defense Service and United Nations Service medals. After his retirement from the military in 1964, he managed various retail operations in Ohio, New Mexico, Florida and for Standard Oil in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his wife in 1966, Marjorie (Luman) Kendrick whom he married
on Oct. 17, 1951.
He is survived by several close friends who were like family to him including: Mark Robbins of Centerville; Sarah Hemmerich of Beavercreek, her six children and their families; Richard (Marianne) Hemmerich Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; Leonard (Angela) Hemmerich and Kasey of Beavercreek; Marian (Don) Gebele and Sarah and Krista of Beavercreek; Bruce (Terri) Hemmerich and Samuel and Spencer of Burlington, Ky.; Carey Hemmerich (Steve) of Dayton; Matthew (Julie) Hemmerich and Chandler and Taylor and Angela of Beavercreek; Marian Rexroad of Beavercreek; Todd and Chris Behnfeldt of Napoleon; Velva Brown and Donna Price both of Fairfield; Juan Vega of Beavercreek; Mike Helton of Bellingham, Wash.; and his neighbor, Kathy Bagley of Dayton.
Mr. Kendrick and his friends would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff and friends at the V.A. Medical Center. A special thanks to Mark Robbins, who became the son Sam never had, for all his love and care.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at the V.A. Chapel, with Father John Butler officiating. Burial is at Valley View Memorial Garden, Xenia.
Visitation will be 10-10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia, Ohio is entrusted with arrangements.
Walter John Smith Eaton
John Eaton, 60, of 07446 Lynch Road, St. Marys, died suddenly Friday March 15, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Seneca County, to Walter Lewis and Julie (Meizinger) Smith. His father is deceased. He was later adopted by his step-father, Robert Eaton Jr., who also is deceased. His mother, now Mrs. Gerald (Julie) Yost, survives in Tiffin. His wife, Sally (Von Gunten) Eaton, whom he married
Aug. 17, 1963, survives at the residence in St. Marys.
Other survivors include six children, Mrs. Christopher (Cathleen) Gilbert of Lake Orion, Mich., Mrs. Dayle (Cheryl) Varuska of St. Marys, Mrs. Larry (Carrie) Roell of Harrison, Sean Eaton of Union, Cicely Eaton of Celina and Mary "Sam" Eaton of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Tom and Robert Jr. Eaton, both of Tiffin.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at11 a.m. today in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Glynnwood. Burial will follow in St. Thomas cemetery, Glynnwood.
Visitation was Monday at the Miller Funeral Home, St. Mary.
Ramona Reidling
Ramona Reidling, 56, of Sandusky St., Fostoria, died Sunday morning, March 17, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 9, 1945, in Saginaw, Mich. to Earl and Nellie (Barr) Reidling.
Survivors include: her mother, in Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Loretta (Ryan) Reid of Fostoria; a brother, Richard Reidling of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Earlene (Carl) Naugle of Bloomdale; and a grandchild.
Services for 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Anna Rose (Lotycz) Kiser
Anna Rose (Lotycz) Kiser, 76, of Finefrock Road, Fremont, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Countryside Continuing Care Center.
She was born Oct. 22, 1925 to Mathias and Josephine (Mazur) Lotycz. She married
Paul Kiser Sept. 30, 1950, at St. Casimir Catholic Church.
Survivors include: her husband, in Fremont; three sons, Marlon Kiser of Waterville, Jerome Kiser of Tiffin and John Kiser of Fremont; three sisters, Angela Biehler, Lorraine Petonke and Phyliss Heilman, all of Fremont; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home Inc., Fremont. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Neva Pearl Schryer
Neva Pearl Schryer, 91, 465 N. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, died 1:30 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2002, at Wyandot Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 13, 1910 in Defiance to Lester Roy and Emma Pearl (Albin) Forsyth. She married
Harold E. Schryer Oct. 24, 1933 in Decatur, Ind. He is deceased.
Survivors include: three sons, Harold Roy Schryer and Dan G. Schryer, both of Upper Sandusky; and James Lee Schryer of Holiday, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Suzanne (David) Rice of McCutchenville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bringman Clark & Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Harold J. Bechtel
Harold J. Bechtel, 86, of Scharf St., New Washington, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the Altercare Nursing Home in Bucyrus.
He was born March 22, 1915 in New Washington, where he was a lifetime resident.
He is survived by: his wife, Arlene V. (Kreim) Bechtel; two daughters, Ruth A. (Ray) Sifferlin of Columbiana and Janice M. (Leonard) Wurm of New Washington; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Bechtel of Bucyrus; and three sisters, Sister Mary Eileen Bechtel of Tiffin, Alma Long of New Washington and Eileen Studer of Bucyrus.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Bertha (Wurm) Bechtel; two brothers, John and Gerald Bechtel; and two sisters, Marie Supon and Sister Mary Gregory Bechtel.
Funeral Mass will be noon Thursday at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington with Father Robert Dendinger officiating. Burial will be at the St. Bernard Catholic cemetery in New Washington.
Visitation will be 10-12 a.m. Thursday at the Secor Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the St. Bernard School Endowment Fund or to the donor's choice.
William J. Mohan Jr.
William J. Mohan Jr., 59, formerly of 33 Ella St., Tiffin died 3:10 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at St. Catherine's Nursing Home.
He was born March 25, 1942, in Cleveland, to the late William and Esabelle Mahon.
Surviving is a sister, Jerry Sheridan of North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Turner-Engle Funeral Home is charge of the arrangements.
Emaline Ison
Emaline Ison, 77, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Tiffin, Ohio, died Tuesday March 19, 2002, in Fort Myers.
Mrs. Ison was born in Whitesburg, Ky., and moved from Tiffin to Fort Myers in 1978.
She is survived by: her loving daughters, Vickie C. (Daniel Schoor) King, Sandra K. (Timothy) Jackson and Diana F. (William) Mays, all of Fort Myers; a brother, James Earl Holcomb of Tiffin; sisters, Ollie Pentz and Lillian Faye Mohr, both of Fort Myers, and Norma Jean Cornett of Tiffin; grandchildren Sheila, Bradley, James Randall and Keelie, all of Fort Myers, and Kava, who is serving as a missionary in Uruguay; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted Friday at the Kiser Funeral Home, 9231 Cypress Lake Dr., Fort Myers, Fla., with interment in Lee Memorial Park cemetery, Lehigh Acres, Fla.
Mary Jane 'Susie' Smith
Mary Jane "Susie" Smith, 76, of Mt. Gilead, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Morrow County Hospital.
She was born May 3, 1925 in Marion to the late Arthur and Edith Mayer Augenstein. She married
George M. Smith March 29, 1947.
Survivors include: two daughters, Karen (George) Hildebrand of Mt. Gilead and Mrs. Kathy "Kt" (Rick) Smith (Thomas) of Tiffin; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Craven Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead. Burial will be at Bryn Zion cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mattie Runion
Mattie Runion, 86, formerly of North Main Street, Clyde, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Arbors of Clyde.
She was born Feb. 26, 1916 in Coote's Store, Va., to Amos and Bertie (Runion) Runion. She married
Leander Runion April 16, 1931. He is deceased.
Survivors include: two sons, Bennie Runion of Clyde and Minor Runion of Westminster, S.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Marguerite (Roy) Smallwood-Schmidt of Madisonville, Ky.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be at McPherson cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Charles J. 'C.J.' Courtad
Charles J. "C.J." Courtad, 83, formerly of Carey and Upper Sandusky, died 8:42 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Eaglewood Care Center, Carey.
He was born May 25, 1918 in Wyandot County to Lorin and Matilda (Enders) Courtad. He married
Mary Lou Gregory Nov. 8, 1947. She is deceased.
Survivors include: a son, Chuck K. Courtad of Carey; a daughter, Connie L. Karpowich of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul "P.K." Courtad and Dale Courtad, both of Upper Sandusky; and a sister, Thelma McCutchen of Upper Sandusky.
A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. Burial will be at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home.
Ellen Lucille Treadway
Ellen Lucille Treadway, 72, of 1114 E. River Drive, Defiance, Ohio, died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday March 21, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Texas Township, Crawford County, Benton, Ohio, to the late Lewis and Mabel (Frankenfield) Marsteller. She married
Lloyd J. Treadway on Dec. 24, 1956, in Waynesfield, Ohio and he survives.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Nelson L. and Sue Treadway of Findlay; a daughter and son-in-law, Gregg and Kathryn Warner of Defiance; a granddaughter, Christine E. Treadway and five grandsons, Adam P. and Nicholas L. Treadway, Ryan M. Cassidy and Blake M. and Andrew M. Warner; two brothers, Oliver and Eugene Marsteller, both of Lima; and a sister, Mrs. Burruss (Delores) Drennen of Bowling Green. A brother, Harold Marsteller and a sister, Annabelle Bible, also are deceased.
Ellen was a member of Evergreen Garden Club, Blanchard Valley Ladies Auxiliary Twig, Findlay Gourmet Luncheon Club, Findlay Country Club, Findlay Country Club Ladies Golf Association and a former member of Timber Lanes Bowling League in Findlay. She also was a member of Kettenring Country Club, the Kettenring Country Club Ladies Golf Association, the Defiance Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and the Defiance College Bridge Marathon.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, with Pastor Sam Schroeder officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Findlay.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Roger B. Boyd
Roger B. Boyd, age 77, of 520 E. Tiffin St., Attica, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, from injuries due to an automobile accident.
He was born June 1, 1924, in Attica, OH, to Harry and Hazel (Armitage) Boyd. On October 13, 1949 he married
A. Mildred Boyd in Bellevue, and she also died from injuries due to the automobile accident.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert H. Boyd of Orlando, FL., and William L. Boyd of Willard; two daughters and son-in-laws, Rebecca and Thomas Lutz, and Elizabeth and Dennis Hanlon, all of Attica; six grandchildren, Matthew Herr of Swanton, Ryan Herr of Attica, Kris Hanlon of Attica, Lyndsey Hanlon of Attica, Tom Lutz II of Bloomville, and Julie Boyd of Willard; three great-granddaughters, Brittany and Alexis Herr, and Haley Lutz; two brothers, Donald Henderson of Monroeville and John Henderson of New Mexico; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Mae Formosa of Cincinnati, Mrs. Grace Hare of Toledo, and Mrs. Christina Yenchi of North Huntington, PA.
Roger was preceded in death by a son, Roger Bryce, and three brothers, Robert, Harry (Max), and Dewitt..
Mr. Boyd was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church, the Attica Lodge #367 F & AM, the Tiffin Chapter #189 OES, and the Attica American Legion. He was a 1942 graduate of Attica High School and a World War II Navy Veteran. Mr. Boyd worked as an electrician for Excell of Tiffin, retiring in 1991.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 25, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Attica United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Thom Kalb officiating. Burial will be in Attica-Venice cemetery, Attica.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-4 p.m. to 7-9 p.m. at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. State Route 19, Bloomville. There will be an Eastern Star Service Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church, the Attica EMS, or to the Seneca County School of Opportunity.
Mike L. Shiffer
Mike L. Shiffer, 59, of 7313 N. CR 33, died in his home on 3/21/02.
A memorial luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 25 at the Ft. Seneca Church.

A. Mildred Boyd
Mildred Boyd, age 72, of 520 E. Tiffin St., Attica, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, from injuries due to an automobile accident.
She was born December 8, 1929, in North Industry, OH, to Lowell and Luella (Smith) Henderson. On October 13, 1949 she married
Roger Boyd in Bellevue, and he also died from injuries due to the automobile accident.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert H. Boyd of Orlando, FL., and William L. Boyd of Willard; two daughters and son-in-laws, Rebecca and Thomas Lutz, and Elizabeth and Dennis Hanlon, all of Attica; six grandchildren, Matthew Herr of Swanton, Ryan Herr of Attica, Kris Hanlon of Attica, Lyndsey Hanlon of Attica, Tom Lutz II of Bloomville, and Julie Boyd of Willard; three great-granddaughters, Brittany and Alexis Herr, and Haley Lutz; two brothers, Donald Henderson of Monroeville and John Henderson of New Mexico; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Mae Formosa of Cincinnati, Mrs. Grace Hare of Toledo, and Mrs. Christina Yenchi of North Huntington, PA.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Bryce, and two brothers, Richard and Lowell Henderson.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 25, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Attica United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Thom Kalb officiating. Burial will be in Attica-Venice cemetery, Attica.
