Thelma R. Miller/Pence

Thelma Pence, 96, of Tiffin, died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 12, 2002, at Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born Thelma McIntyre on June 10, 1905. She was married to John D.Miller with whom she raised five children: John, Jean, Joyce, Agnes and Milton. She is survived by her son, Milton, her daughter, Joyce and 22 grandchildren, including: Nancy Rohrbach, Carol Pheiffer, Barbara Bauer, Jane Butler, Patricia McDonald, Susan Gibson and David Miller; 28 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

All arrangements were made by Turner-Engle Funeral Home and she is buried in Fairmont cemetery.

Ann M. Simon

Ann M. Simon, 88, formerly of Van Buren, died at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin. She was born April 16, 1913 to Joseph and Anna (Hannas) Maline. On Oct. 31, 1944 she married Julius L. Simon, he preceded her in death.

Surviving include: a son, Julius Joseph Simon of Findlay; three daughters, Penny D. Coppes of Van Buren, Rose Ratliff of Ft. Seneca, and Mrs. Sandra Miles of Findlay; a sister, Helen A. Hill of Chicago, two brothers, Mike Maline of Clearwater, Fla., and John Maline of Greensburg, PA.; ten grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 at St. Michael cemetery in Findlay.

Visitation hours are from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home.

Robert P. Freeland Sr.

Robert P. Freeland Sr., 84, of Attica, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday Feb. 14, 2002, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born Dec. 21, 1917, in Indianapolis, IN to the late John M. and Eva G. (Wright) Freeland.

Mr. Freeland is survived by his wife. F. Lucille (Zellers) Freeland, who he married April 12, 1941; a son, Robert P. "Bulldog" Freeland Jr. and his wife, Joyce of Norwalk; two daughters, Patricia Dalton and her husband Glen of O'Fallon, IL and Darla Corbin and her husband Tom of Attica; eight grandchildren: Scot Corbin of Marblehead, Buffi Gass and Angelia Dalton of O'Fallon, IL, Pam McKenzie of Willard, John and Chris Freeland of Norwalk, Summer Barnett of Alliance, Ohio and Heather Patton of Attica. He was preceded by two brothers, Frank and John Freeland and a sister, Virginia Graston.

Mr. Freeland was employed at the General Electric Plant in Bellevue for 28 years, retiring in 1972. After retirement he owned and operated a body shop and provided custodial services for North Central Electric Coop and Sutton Bank. He also ran the theater in Attica at one time. Mr. Freeland was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Attica American Legion, Attica Lodge 367 Free and Accepted Masons, and was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 441. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Feb. 16, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. James L. Barkenquast officiating. Burial will be in the Attica-Venice Township cemetery, Attica.

Friends may call 2-9 p.m. today at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica and from noon Saturday until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or In His Care Learning Center, 326 S. Main St., Attica, Ohio 44807.

Dolores A. Reedy

Dolores A. Reedy, 60, of 7 N. Sandusky St., Tiffin, died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 in St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Hospital, in Toledo. She was born March 15, 1941 to Kermit and Alice (Smith) Dutton. On July 14, 1965 she married Ronald Reedy in the First Lutheran Church in Tiffin, and he survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jerry Reedy of Tiffin, and Michael "Jay" Reedy of Columbus; a brother, Delmar Dutton of Marion; and two grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin. Burial will be at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation hours are from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Margaret Marie Swartz

Margaret Marie Swartz, 77, of Courtly Dr., Fostoria, died at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 in her residence. She was born Feb. 4, 1925 to Walter Ray and Ina Gladys (Bressler) Ostrander. On Feb. 8, 1947 she married Harry Frank Swartz, and he survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Bill Swartz of Fostoria; six daughters, Mrs. Diana Mock, and Mrs. Jacquie Newman, both of Findlay, Mrs. Luci Runion of Fostoria, Laura Smith of Lake Station, IN., Mrs. Ginny Shinew of Cygnet, and Mrs. Jane Benroth of Bluffton; a brother, Ron Ostrander of Old Town, Fla.; two sisters, Alta Sexton of Wayne, and LouEllen Duty of Bowling Green; 23 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 at the Mann-hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be at Knollcrest cemetery in Arcadia.

Visitation hours are from 5-7 Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Larry P. Tuttle

Larry P. Tuttle, 60, of Fremont, died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 at Wade Park VA Center in Cleveland. Arrangements are pending at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Doris May Koepfer

Doris May Koepfer, 79, of Pelton Road, Fostoria, died at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in Fostoria Community Hospital. She was born July 27, 1922, in Fostoria to the late Samuel and Wynema (Worley) DeWalt. On Aug. 4, 1946, she married Karl J. Koepfer at St. Peter Catholic Church, Alvada, and he died May 29, 1988.

She is survived by a son, Barry D. (Nancy) Koepfer, and a grandson, Andrew (Tanya) Koepfer, all of Fostoria. Preceding her in death was a brother, Ed DeWalt.

Mrs. Koepfer retired in 1982, after 30 years of service with Excello in Fostoria. She was a member of Excello Ladies Retirees Group and St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

A Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Wednesday followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. Interment will be in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830.

Dorothy Alice Beals

Dorothy Alice Beals, age 72, of Gaylord, Mich., died Feb. 15, 2002, at her residence. She was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Republic, Ohio to B. Howard and Irma Louise (Miller) Powell, both of whom are deceased.

She married Carlyle L. Beals in St. Paul's Methodist Church, Tiffin, on May 29, 1949. He died Dec. 23, 2001. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, all of Michigan. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. She had lived in Gaylord, Mich. since 1964, and before that was a resident of Tiffin for 36 years.

Her son, Richard and his wife, Kathy, are parents of four sons: Andrew, David, Jonathan and Philip. Son, Randy and his wife, Jeanne, are the parents of Joshua, Justin and Katie. Her daughter, Jane Louise Beals, resides in Gaylord, Mich.

Also surviving are the following brother and sisters: Eldon E. Powell of Green Springs; Jean M. Shambaugh of Maryland; Mrs. Alvin (Helen L.) Schubert and Mrs. Robert (Carolyn A.) Norcross, both of Republic. One brother, Leonard H. Powell and her parents are deceased.

Mrs. Beals graduated from Scipio-Republic High School, Class of 1947, and was a homemaker. After her husband retired, together, they spent 10 years traveling and had visited each of the 50 states at least once.

Funeral services will be held at Turner-Engle Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Michaels officiating. Burial is in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation will be one hour before the time of the service at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society of Michigan, Hospice of Michigan or the North Ohio Street Elementary School Library Fund of Gaylord, Mich.

Elizabeth S. Stewart

Elizabeth S. Stewart, 92, formerly of W. Lytle St., Fostoria and Bowling Green, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria. She was born in Gibsonstation, Va. Jan. 15, 1910, to the late Sid and Martha (Jenkins) Stigualle. She married Woodrow Stewart in Angola, Ind. April 24, 1939, and he died Nov. 18, 1983.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by: two sons, Virgil Stewart of Michigan and Richard Stewart of Fostoria; five daughters, Ann Spitler of Wyandot, Mich., Lucille Garza of Lincoln Park, Mich., Ruby Newton of Houston, Texas, Margaret Bateson-Tucker of Findlay and Dorothy Jean Henry of Fostoria; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First Church of the Nazarene, Fostoria with the Rev. Robert Chew officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia.

Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, and one hour before the funeral service.

Donald E. Deuble

Donald E. Deuble, 73, of 507 W. Center St., Fostoria, died Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2002. He was born in Adrian to Guy and Gertrude (Shockey) Deuble, both of whom are deceased.

He is survived by: three sons, Donnie Deuble Jr., Greg Deuble and Chad Deuble, all of Fostoria; three daughters, Rosetta Gottfried of Bucyrus, Roberta Prenzlin of Reseda, Calif. and Janet Hickle of Fostoria; a step-son, Jimmy Loving of Middlefield; a step-daughter, Gail Kimble of Fostoria; a brother, Vane Deuble of Fostoria; three sisters, Dorothy Thompson of Tiffin, Patricia Farwig and Florence Duvall, both of Fostoria; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Deuble was veteran of U.S. Navy serving in World War II and veteran of U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Larry W. Knigga officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Veterans Reserve National cemetery, Rittman. Military Funeral Rites will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Flora A. Canida

Flora A. Canida, 91, of Bellevue, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in the Bellevue Hospital. She was born Oct. 2, 1910, to the late Henry F. and Rhoda C. (Wilson) Canida.

She is survived by a sister, Lucy Salter of Haleyville, Ala. and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Foos & Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at Foos & Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Bellevue.

Howard L. Myers Sr.

Howard L. Myers Sr., 88, 1740 W. Market St. Apt. C, Tiffin, Ohio, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday Feb. 18, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where he had been a patient since Feb. 14.

He was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Eden Township, Melmore area, to the late Leo Joseph and Della (Myers) Myers. On June 25, 1941, in Tiffin, he married Evelyn J. Wales, who survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Howard L. Myers Jr. and Leslie Myers, both of Tiffin and William Robert Myers of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four daughters, Mrs. Edmond (Mary Ann) Haines of Warner Robbins, Ga., Mrs. Edith "Sue" Haines of Una Bristal, Va., Mrs. Catherine E. Windsor and Karen Myers, both of Tiffin; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Robert, Herman and Paul Myers; and three sisters, Katherine Pownell, Mary Wise and Loretta Myers, who died in infancy.

A gunner in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Mr. Myers retired from Webster Mfg., where he was a crane operator. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church. He lived most of his life in Seneca County.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 20, at the Salvation Army, with Robin and Bruce A. Eckhart officiating.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Catherine Gonzales

Catherine Gonzales, 77, died Feb. 16, 2002, in Bibo, N.M. She was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Tiffin to Mary (Spino) and Joseph Salpietro.

Surviving are: children, Danny Gonzales and Frederiaka Gonzales of Sante Fe, N.M., and Mary Kay Burns of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Carmella (Henry) Straub of Tiffin, Rosemary Kloft, Joanna McGee and Sara Salpietro of Phoenix, Ariz., and Virginia Voltarel of Yorba Linda, Calif.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild; special aunts, Phil Herrig and Lucy Tieman of Tiffin and special uncles Tony Spino of Sandusky and Joseph Spino of Nashville, Tenn.; nieces Cathie Clark and Pat Spero of Tiffin.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, James Salpietro.

She was employed by the Kroger Co. for 45 years, beginning in Tiffin, then Sandusky, ending in Toledo.

Memorials can be made to the donor's choice.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday,. Feb. 20, 2002, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Sebojela, N.M.

James P. 'Pat' Jackson

James P. Jackson, 47, of Round Lake Beach, Ill., died at 11:43 p.m. Saturday Feb. 16, 2002.

He was born Aug. 20, 1954, in Cleveland, to Hugh and Mary (Burger) Jackson. He married Anna Bair on June 20, 1981, in Republic, and she survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Rebecca A., Karen R., Erin M.and Briana C .Jackson, all of Round Lake Beach; step children, Sheila A. Dempsey of Toledo,, Jeff Feasel of Bellevue, and Walt Feasel Jr. of Virginia; his father, Hugh G. Jackson of Republic; brothers, Michael H. Jackson of Kirtland, Ohio, Peter J. Jackson of Fremont; sisters, Cathryn A. Jackson, his twin; and Mary E. Bush, both of Republic; and several nieces and nephews. His mother is deceased.

He graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a master's degree in 1997. He was a Vietnam veteran in the U.S.Navy from 1972-78. Mr. Jackson moved from Willowick, Ohio, to Republic in 1978, where he lived until 1990, when he moved his family to Round Lake Beach.

He worked at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin from 1978 to 1990 as a bio-med technician. He was employed as head of the Bio-Med Engineering Department for Service Master in 1990, until his death. He was in charge of four major hospitals in Wisconsin.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Memorials may be made to the family, in care of Justens Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 Rosedale Court, Round Lake Beach, Ill. 60073.

Tim Allan Broski

Tim Allan Broski, 33, of 131 State St., Bettsville, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in Fremont.

He was born Aug. 11, 1968, to Phyliss Boatman who survives in Burgoon. He married April L. Stockdale June 25, 2001, in Brown County, Ohio, and she survives along with: three brothers, Edward Alex Broski, Gregory Alan Broski and David Clark Broski all of Burgoon; and a sister, Lisa Jene Broski of Bettsville.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, in the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville with burial in Smith cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Harold Wayne Hushour

Harold Wayne Hushour, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, in Alameda, Calif.

He was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Melmore to Lawrence Allen and Ferne Hushour. He married Elaine Hushour who survives in Alameda, Calif.

Other survivors include: two sons, Michael E. of San Francisco, and David L. of Fairfield; three grandchildren; and a sister, Lepha Gragg of San Pablo.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. in the Greer Family Mortuary, Alameda, Calif., with private interment in San Joaquin National cemetery.
