Janis R. Kummerer
Former Upper Sandusky resident
Janis R. Kummerer, 72, formerly of Upper Sandusky, died at 5:25 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at her daughter's in Gainesville, Fla., where she had resided since 1992.
She was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Wyandot County to Roy E. and Leolia Belle (Johns) Myers. She married
Clarence Kummerer July 10, 1946, in Upper Sandusky. He died in May of 1975.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Sharon) Klein of Gainesville, Fla.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Myers of Upper Sandusky; and three sisters, Mrs. Woodrow (Gertrude) Snavely, Mrs. Lillian Heffelfinger and Mrs. James (Kathryn) Parsell, all of Upper Sandusky.
A brother, Raymond, is also deceased.
Mrs. Kummerer was a 1946 Upper Sandusky High School graduate; a homemaker; had worked at the Eagles Lodge in Upper Sandusky; member of the First Lutheran Church, Eagles Auxiliary 2184, the Moose Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary, all of Upper Sandusky; enjoyed playing bingo, sewing, watching Wheel of Fortune; and was an Atlanta Brave baseball and O.S.U. football fan.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, in the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Julianne Smith officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home where the Eagles Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 7:45 p.m.

Bertha E. Marks
Former Clyde resident
Bertha E. Marks, 76, formerly of Walnut St., Clyde, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, in Countryside Continuing Care.
She was born May 16, 1925, in Sparta, Tenn., to Marion Telly and Hattie Mae (Allison) Carter. She married
Dennis Marks June 5, 1943. He died in July of 1989.
Surviving are: a son, Maurice Eugene "Moe" Marks of Clyde; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Bentz of Clyde; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased include: a son, James LaVern Marks; five brothers, Lenwood, John Monroe, Willie Isaac, Van and Horace Vernall Carter; and four sisters, Mary Barr, Sarah Smith, Effie Jane Ballow and Noreen Risch.
She graduated from Sparta High in Tennesse; was a homemaker; and a member of Moose Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Grandmother's Club, and LUPIS Society.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, in the Mitchell Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with interment in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home where VFW Auxiliary services will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. followed by Moose services at 7 p.m.

Richard R. Cunningham
Toledo Edison supervisor
Richard R. Cunningham, 68, of Clyde, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, in Bellevue Hospital.
Mr. Cunningham was born Jan. 2, 1933, in Fremont to Ransom and Dora (Smith) Cunningham. He married
Jackie Overmyer Jan. 19, 1952, and she survives along with two sons, Scott of Chillicothe, and Larry of Clyde; two grandchildren; three brothers, Gary of Gibsonburg, Keith "Dutch" and David of Fremont; a half-brother, Bob Cunningham of Oak Harbor; and two sisters, Karen Stang of Maple Shade, N.J., and Rayma Jean Cunningham of Elwood, Ind.
His parents and a brother, Dan, preceded him in death.
He was a 1951 Fremont Ross graduate and supervisor/lineman at Toledo Edison for 38 years, He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clyde and Clyde Eagles and retired in 1973 from the Clyde Fireman Association and Department.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Gerry Gosnell officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Wilbur F. Conner
Area residents' relative
Wilbur F. Conner, 80, of E. SR 101, Castalia, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Tiffin to John and Yosbel (Holsinger) Conner. He married
Gloria Matter on July 26, 1953, and she survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Robert of Green Springs; two daughters, Sylvia Coyl of Castalia and Mrs. Marvin (Peggy) Pearce of Clyde; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Rollie (Ruth) Leibengood of Green Springs and Dorothy Wilson of Texas.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Emerson, Arley and Otis; and two sisters, Golda Hoke and Mary Conner.
He was educated in Seneca County schools; was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy, Destroyer Escort; was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Sandusky; and worked in the paint department at Ford Motor, Sandusky.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Matthew Andrews officiating. Interment will be in the veteran's section of McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
There is no visitation.

Bertha Keen
Heidelberg College graduate
Bertha Margaret Keen, 100, of S. SR 100, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in St. Francis Home where she had been a resident since Aug. 6.
She was born Aug. 4, 1901, in Indianapolis, Ind., to the late George and Louisa (Weiretter) Herzberger. She married
Forrest M. Keen on Aug. 16, 1925, in Indianapolis and he died Oct. 24, 1968.
Survivors include: a son, Dr. Tom C. Keen of Tiffin; a daughter, Helen MacLam of Norwich, Vt.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased include: three brothers, George, Alfred and Carl Herzberger; and four sisters, Matilda Shoemaker, Louise Payne, Sadie Jones, and Florence Davis.
Mrs. Keen worked several positions in social and secretarial work, including deputy clerk of Tiffin Municipal Court. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin. She was a Heidelberg College graduate of the class of 1924 and performed graduate work in the field of psychology at Ohio State University. Also, she studied at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
She founded a writers' club, a music club and a painting club in Tiffin. She wrote a book "Good! I'm Growing Older" which was published in 1974. Mrs. Keen displayed her paintings at the county fair and Tiffin-Seneca Public Library. As an amateur musician, she entertained at area nursing homes, including Autumnwood Care Center and St. Francis Home.
A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
There will be no visitations.
Memorials may be made to the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library.

Bertha M. Keen

Graveside services for Bertha Margaret Keen of Tiffin, who died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Greenlawn cemetery. The Rev. William Smith will be the officiant.
Helen M. Stahl
Former Fostoria Restaurant employee
Helen M. Stahl, 94, of Port Clinton, died at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at MacGruder Hospital in Port Clinton.
She was born July 30, 1907, in Bloomdale, to Grant and Minnie (Stillwell) Myers. She married
Harry R. Stahl on July 3, 1929, in Bowling Green, and he died in 1971.
She is survived by a son, Wilbur P. Stahl of Findlay; a daughter, Mrs. William (Betty) Hitchings of Port Clinton; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Frederick, Floyd and Robert Myers, and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Hagel and Mrs. Lois Stewart, are deceased.
Mrs. Stahl was a former employee of Harry's Restaurant, in Fostoria, and at Quaker Maid in Bloomdale for a number of years. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomdale and was a member of Arcadia Senior Citizens.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. The Rev. Dwight Norris will be the officiant. Interment will be in Knollcrest Gardens in Arcadia.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Charles R. Crawford
Mennel Milling retiree
Charles R. Crawford, 70, of Fostoria, died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 1, 1931, in Portsmouth, Ky., to Arthur and Lena (Hanna) Crawford, Sr. They are deceased. He married
Margaret Frankhart on Aug. 7, 1963 in Monroe, Mich. She died March 28, 1997.
Survivors include: a son, David Crawford of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Mrs. Jimmy (Conni) Zamudio of Fostoria; a brother, Bob Crawford of Fostoria; four sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Wanda) Stevens, Mrs. Jim (Donna) Fettro, and Mrs. Gene (Carolyn) Tolbert, all of Fostoria, and Mrs. Mark (Ann) Walters of Florida; and five grandchildren.
Two brothers, Arthur Jr. and Jack Crawford, and a sister, Berenice Keckler, are deceased.
Mr. Crawford retired in 1995 from Mennel Milling in Fostoria with 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. The Rev. Mark Bower will be the officiant. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery in Fostoria.
Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Peggy A. Smith
Former Fostoria resident
Peggy A. Smith, 67, of Fox Run Manor in Findlay, died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Fox Run Manor.
She was born May 22, 1934, in Fostoria, to Charles H. and Nettie (Sevitts) Smith. Both are deceased.
Survivors include: a brother, Gerald Smith of Fostoria; and three sisters, Josephine Marshall and Betty Hammer of Port Clinton and Maxine Leeper of Punta Gorda, Fla.
A brother and a sister are deceased.
Miss Smith was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Fostoria and a 1952 Fostoria High School graduate.
Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fountain cemetery in Fostoria with the Rev. Russell Gumm officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Elmer L. Hall
Upper Sandusky resident
Elmer L. Hall, 75, of Upper Sandusky, died at 6:50 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Wyandot Manor Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky.
He was born April 2, 1926, in Upper Sandusky, to the late A. Reed and A. Marie (Hogan) Hall. He married
Dorothy E. Yeater on Dec. 3, 1948, at First Lutheran Church Parsonage in Upper Sandusky. He survives.
Survivors also include: a son, Robert A. Hall of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Shirley A.) Marquis of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and a grandchild.
Two sisters, Edna Losinno and LeotaBelle Farrall, are deceased.
Mr. Hall founded and operated the Hall Plumbing and Heating in 1971 and retired in 1988 when his son took over the business.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church for over 50 years and the American Legion Post 225. He was a past member of the
Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, (Master Mason in Good Standing), a past member of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio- McCutchenville Chapter 96, past member of the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Upper Sandusky Council 98 and Aladdin Temple in Columbus.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp from 1944-1946; and during the Korean War, in the U.S. Air Force from 1949-1953.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. The Rev. Julianne Smith will be the officiant. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in Upper Sandusky, with military graveside rites performed by local veteran organizations.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Margaret E. Ekleberry
Retired founder of Tiffin Answering Service
Margaret E. Ekleberry, 80, of Union St., died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
She was born July 28, 1921, in Chelsea, Okla., to Homer and Daisy (Montgomery) Stephens. Both are deceased. She married
Robert E. Ekleberry on Feb. 28, 1942 at St. Paul's Parsonage in Tiffin. He died March 11, 1989.
Survivors include: a son, Stephan A. Ekleberry of Avon Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Patricia) Hively of Tiffin; a sister, Greta Thompson of Tiffin; a half-brother, James Stephens of Mentor; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
A sister, Violet Rinebold, is deceased.
Mrs. Ekleberry graduated in 1941 from Tiffin Columbian High School and in 1961 became founder of Tiffin Telephone Answering Service.
She was past president of the Tiffin Shrine Ladies Club, the Order of Eastern Star-Tiffin Chapter 189 and Altrusa. Club. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with the Rev. Gail Angel officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where the Order of Eastern Star will provide services at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society, Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and Burns Institutes, Seneca County Agency Transportation or a charity of the donor's choice.
