Ralph E. Joseph
Whirlpool retiree
Ralph E. Joseph, 69, of Old Fort, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Old Fort, to Charles J. and Mary K. (Humes) Joseph. They are deceased. On Dec. 27, 1949, in Green Springs, he married
Jeanne Kittle and she survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Kevin of Old Fort and Gerald of Columbus; four daughters, Janice Shireman of Tiffin, Mrs. Mike (Carol) McClure of rural Old Fort, Mrs. David (Linda) Woodruff of Clyde and Mrs. Rick (Brenda) Sherer of Fremont; a brother, Lawrence Joseph of Green Springs; three sisters, Lois Wise and Christine Habecker, both of Old Fort, and Mrs. Louie (Luella) Hagen of Fostoria; 10 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were: three brothers, Oscar, Charles Jr. and Ned Joseph; a sister, Bernice Mutchler; and two sisters in infancy.
Mr. Joseph graduated in 1950 from Old Fort High School. He worked at Whirlpool Corp. in Clyde and retired in June of 1996; owned and operated Ralph's Antiques at Maplewood Gallery in Clyde; and was was coordinator for Baker and Bonnigson, Inc.
He was a lifetime member of Old Fort Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as chief for many years; and was a member of the Old Fort United Methodist Church.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the Rev. Scott Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday at Engle-Young Funeral Home in Green Springs.
Memorials may be made to Hospice, Memorial Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.
Mildred Mergenthaler
Gray Printing retiree
Mildred M. Mergenthaler, 100, of Fostoria, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Independence House in Fostoria.
She was born Dec. 30, 1900, in Fostoria, to Frank and Elizabeth (Schiefer) Serfoss. She married
Charles Howard Mergenthaler June 7, 1922, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria and he preceded her in death May 4, 1960.
Survivors include: a son, John R. Mergenthaler of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Victor (Joan) Hoover of Tiffin; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death also were a daughter, June E. Stearns, and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Mergenthaler was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria and Hope 60 Club; Silver Cross Circle of Kings Daughters; and was a member of Fostoria Women's Club. She graduated from Fostoria High School in 1919 and received her teaching certificate from State Normal College (BGSU) in Bowling Green. She taught school in Hopewell Township.
She was head bookkeeper for 15 years at Gray Printing in Fostoria and retired in 1965.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria, with the Rev. Dr. Larry W. Knigga officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery in Fostoria.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Catherine Beyer
Sister of area residents
Catherine "Cathy" Beyer of Toledo, died Friday, July 20, 2001, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
She was born to Richard and Daisy Mullholand of McCutchenville. Her latest husband, D. Paul Beyer, preceded her in death and her first husband, Frank J. Wilcox, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: a son, Francis P. "Frank" Wilcox of West Unity; four daughters, Kathleen D. Jay of Toledo, Mrs. John S. (Cynthia) Ventura of Brighton, Mich., Mrs. Thomas (Debra J.) Gehr of Maumee, and Mrs. John (Julie R.) Jordan of Germany; three brothers, Richard F. Mullholand of McCutchenville, Lawrence E. Mullholand of Marietta, Ga., and Raymond M. Mullholand of Upper Sandusky; a sister Mrs. Chester (Rachael) Ogg of Sebring, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Beyer attended the beauty school in Toledo and later started her own business, Kathleen Coiffures Beauty Shop. She owned and operated it for more than 60 years.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Collingwood United Methodist Church in Toledo with the Rev. Merrill D. Braymer officiating. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. today and 2-8 p.m. Monday in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave., Toledo. The Fort Industry Chapter 391 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Albert Siekeres
Former Fostoria teacher
Albert Siekeres, 85, of Fostoria, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Cleveland, to Albert and Marie (Hedervary) Siekeres Sr. Both are deceased. He married
Margaret Kathleen Amos June 6, 1940, in Portage, and she survives in Fostoria.
He also is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Elphinstone of Portersville, Pa., and Mrs. Kurt (Janet) Goszyk of Washington Crossing, Pa., and nine grandchildren.
A step-brother, John A. Siekeres, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Siekeres was a 1935 graduate of Bowling Green State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in biology and a master's degree in science. He taught at Tipton High School for two years, Arlington High School for three years, and taught at Fostoria High School for 30 years, teaching chemistry, physics and driver's education. He also coached basketball and was an area referee. He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria.
Mr. Siekeres' body was donated to Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. Memorial services will be at a later date. There will be no visitations.

Benjamin R. Emerson
Former Clyde policeman
Benjamin R. Emerson, 86, of Clyde, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 in Bellevue Care Center.
He was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Findlay, to Benjamin F. and Alta Mae (Scott) Emerson, and they are deceased. He married
Wilma M. Kramb on June 28, 1941 and she died Aug. 28, 1994.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Janet) Kuss and Mrs. Walter (Emily) Smathers, both of Clyde, and Rose Marie Hill of Fremont; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Theresa Emerson and two brothers, Franklin and Charles William Emerson, are deceased.
Mr. Emerson graduated from Findlay High School in 1934 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clyde. He was a
World War II Navy veteran.
He was an upholsterer in Clyde and was a policeman for the City of Clyde from 1950-1977 and helped organize the first Boy Scout troop for St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clyde with the Rev. Dennis Schroeder officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home. A Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or Sandusky Co. Home Health.
James E. Grine
Atlas Inc. Fostoria employee
James E. Grine, 62, of Fostoria, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2001, in The Toledo Hospital.
He was born May 1, 1939, in Hancock County, to Alvin and Esther E. (Fox) Grine Sr., and they are deceased. On April 6, 1967 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, he married
Nettie Banks and she survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Michael D. Leal of Fostoria; four brothers, Vernon E. Grine, Vincent E. Grine, and Paul L. Grine, all of Fostoria, and Harold J. Grine of Albrightsville, Pa.; a sister, Ellen R. Greek of Tiffin; and four grandchildren.
Two brothers, Alvin Jr. and Richard Grine; five sisters, Margaret Grine, Helen Kauffman, Hilda Krupp, Rita Calvert and Inez Miller; and a grandson are deceased.
Mr. Grine was a fork lift operator with Atlas Inc. in Fostoria. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie 430, "Dads" of VFW Post 421 and United Sportsman Club, all of Fostoria, and Moose Lodge 846 of Tiffin.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria. The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria. A Christian wake service will take place at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Church, American Heart Association or Fostoria Relay for Life Fund.
Eulalia R. Lonsway
Former Carey resident
Eulalia R. Lonsway, 95, of Wyandot County Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky and formerly of Carey, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, in the nursing home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1906, in Fostoria, to Nicholas and Veronica (Snyder) Lamberjack. She married
C. Raymond Lonsway at Our Lady of Consolation, in Carey, on Feb. 26, 1924. He died Jan. 29, 1972.
Survivors include: two sons, Paul G. and James B. Lonsway of Carey; two daughters, Mildred E. Franz of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Ralph (Rosemary) Pratt of Carey; two sisters, Mary Vitale of Cleveland Heights and Blanche Shultz of Fostoria; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Eugene and R. W. "Bill" Lonsway; five brothers, Raymond, Gerald, Bob, Otto and Carl Lamberjack; and four sisters, Hilda Ruffing, Inez Frey, Dorothy Payment and Sister Mary Agatha Lamberjack; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are deceased.
Mrs. Lonsway was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, the Rosary Altar Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia and the former PRS Club in Carey. She bowled in Carey in several leagues.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey with the Rev. Benjamin Knopp, OFM. Conv., officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary's cemetery in Carey.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. A Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Roger L. Sperow
Atlas Crankshaft retiree
Roger L. Sperow of Fostoria died at 10:47 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born in Bascom to Ellis and Helen (Hoover) Sperow and they are deceased. He married
Nancy E. Dowdy in Bowling Green and she survives.
Survivors also include: three daughters, Mrs. Dave (Lynn) Hannigan of Risingsun, Mrs. Richard Jr. (Nita) Haas of Maumee and Mrs. Tim (Rhonda) Schaffer of Findlay; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Aileen) Coppus of Fostoria, Mrs. Frank (Marilyn) Bugner of Tiffin and Mrs. Jim (Nadine) Omlor of Bascom; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A daughter, Joni Sperow, is deceased.
Mr. Sperow retired in 1990 from Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria after 26 years of employment. He was a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon high school and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
He was a member of Amvets Post 21, Moose Lodge 698 in Findlay, Eagles Club in North Baltimore, and VFW in Tiffin. His interests included his family, baseball, Ohio State football, and NASCAR.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria with the Rev. Roy Girdler officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren cemetery, with military graveside rites to be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eugene F. Ranker
Basic retiree
Eugene F. Ranker, 65, of 11 S. High St. in Bloomville, died Wednesday July 25, 2001, at his residence.
He was born in Tiffin, Dec. 23, 1935, to Berlie and Neva (Heminger) Ranker. They are deceased. He married
Norma Jean Scherger Jan. 8, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, and she survives.
Survivors also include: three daughters, Mrs. David (Connie) Ehrenfried, Pat Burlile, and Mrs. James (Cindy) Morrow Jr., all of Tiffin; a brother, Jerry Ranker of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Martin (Nancy) Coffman of Bloomville and Mrs. Richard (Pat) Winkler of Tiffin; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, Roy Allen Ranker is deceased.
Mr. Ranker was employed at Basic Refractories, where he was group leader for 15 years, and retired in 1981. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, and enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with Msgr. Edward Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

M. Kenneth Raymond Jr.
Upper Sandusky resident
M. Kenneth Raymond, Jr., 44, of Upper Sandusky, died Sunday July 22, 2001, in Upper Sandusky.
He was born in Upper Sandusky, Aug. 25, 1956, to Merle K. and Ilse (Greilich) Raymond, and they survive in Upper. He married
Brenda Sue Dunn, July 26, 1980. She died Dec. 13, 1992. He married
Tami E. Dutton of New Bloomington, on Jan. 24, 1997, and she survives.
Survivors also include: three sons: Keaton Allen, Brandt Kristopher, and Kaleb Scott Raymond; two step-daughters, Brandi Covert Jenkins of Kenton, and Teri Cook of Jackson; two sisters, Dawn M. Davidson of Tiffin, and Karine S. Lewis of Shelby; a maternal grandmother, Helen K. Greilich of Upper Sandusky, and three step-grandchildren.
Mr. Raymond was most recently employed at Todco Division of Overhead Door Corp in Upper Sandusky, he had also been a tool and die maker at Honda in Marysville.
He was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church, and affiliated with First Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky. He was a 1976 graduate of Upper Sandusky H. S., and attended two years at Ohio State Univ. and Marion Tech. College. He was past member of Marion County Power Boat Squadron, had been a Boy Scout and Cub Scout assistant, coached Elgin 4th grade basketball, enjoyed scuba diving, boating, fishing, camping and traveling with his family and paint ball competitions.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper. The Rev. Julianne Smith will be the officiant. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery in Upper.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Floyd A. Rine
Green Springs resident
Floyd A. Rine, 90, of Green Springs, died at 3:14 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2001 in Medical College of Ohio, where he had been a patient since July 16.
He was born in Adams Township, Seneca County, Dec. 6, 1910, to Fletcher A. and Mettie S. (Creager) Rine. He married
Zella Mae Estep Oct. 12, 1931, in New Port, Ky. She died April 4, 1988.
Survivors include: a son, Ronald R. Rine of rural Clyde; six grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Deceased include: two daughters, Patsy Ann Rine and Judith Kay Myers; two brothers, Earl and Bernard Rine; five sisters, Bernice, Sarah, Bertha, Carrie and Myrtle; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Rine retired from Whirlpool and drove truck for Huber Motors from 1926-1946. He was a member of Green Springs United Methodist Church.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. The Rev. James A. Scott will be the officiant. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.
Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
