Florence M. Traxler

Florence M. Traxler, 87, of County Hwy 121, died at 7:25 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2001, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 24, 1914, in Fostoria, to Delbert A. and Gertrude A. (Payne) Smith and both are deceased. On April 22, 1942, in Fremont, she married
Curtis W. Traxler and he preceded her in death Feb. 9, 1999.
Survivor include: a son, Harry Traxler of McCutchenville; a daughter, Mrs. David (Rose) Jones of Upper Sandusky; 3 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death also are a son, George, and a grandson.
Mrs. Traxler graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1933, attended Tiffin University, was a homemaker and had worked for many years at the former Lincoln Highway Nursery in Upper Sandusky.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in McCutchenville; former treasurer and secretary for the Kum-Join-Us Sunday School Class; a member of the McCutchenville Grange 2360; the Wyandot County Pomona Grange; a member of the Ohio State and the National Grange. She enjoyed vegetable and flowering gardening and crafting.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Reverends Roy Howell and Ed Shelly officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery in Upper.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Grange Memorial Service at 8:45 p.m.

Norman G. Layne
Relative of Tiffin residents
Word has been received that Norman G. "Norm" Layne, 70, 733 E. Lincoln St. in Findlay, died at
4 a.m., Sunday, June 24, 2001 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Toledo, to Emil L. and Mary H. (Kuntz) Layne Sr., his father is deceased and his mother survives. On May 4, 1957, he married
Joyce A. Fox, and she survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Martin "Marty" D. Layne of Findlay, and Jace N. Layne of Rittman; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Kris L.) Jullien of Woodbridge, Mrs. Denny (Lynette J.) Snyder of Arlington and Michele C. Layne of Bradenton, Fla., three grandchildren; and a brother, Emil D. Layne, Jr. of Findlay.
Mr. Layne was a self-employed mechanic and worked at Findlay Service Garage. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Findlay, the Holy Name Society, Marriage Enrichment, and a CCD instructor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., today, at St. Michael Catholic Church in downtown Findlay. The Father Mike Hohenbrink will officiate. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens with military honors conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Ivan A. Goshe
Father of local residents
Ivan Albert Goshe, 63, of 915 Vincent St. in Findlay, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay.
He was born May 12, 1928, in McCutchenville, to Edmund and Armina (Reinhart) Goshe, both are deceased. On July 15, 1961, in Albuquerque, N.M., he married
Patricia McNeil, and she survives.
Survivors also include: four daughters, Mrs. Michael (Sandra) Hampshire of Findlay, Mrs. Timothy (Jeanne) Kimble of West Millgrove, Mrs. Brad (Barbara) Dibble of Risingsun, and Margaret Strack of Findlay; 11 grandchildren,1 great-grandchild; three brothers, Donald Goshe of Tiffin, Harold Goshe of Fostoria and Richard Goshe of Arcadia; two sisters, Roseann Weyer of Sandusky and Alma Hiller of Dola.
A brother, Gerald Goshe, is deceased.
Mr. Goshe was an assembler at Whirlpool for nearly 38 years, and retired on May 31, 2001. He served in the U. S. Air Force in 1960-62. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, in Findlay, and was a fund raiser volunteer for West Millgrove Fire Department.
Services will take place at 4 p.m., Friday, at Routson Funeral Chapel, 201 Osborn Ave. in Findlay. Deacon Dorsey Hazelton will be the officiant.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., today and 2-4 p.m. Friday, prior to the services, at the Routson Funeral Chapel.

Alvina C. Rutowski
Mother of Tiffin resident
Alvina C. "Honey" Rutowski, 80, of Toledo, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at the Toledo Hospital.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mr. Charles (Carol) Lampkowski of Lambertville, Mich., Mrs. Mark (Monica) Perry of Tiffin; a brother, John Zalecki of Naples, Fla., and six grandchildren.
Her husband, Carl J. Rutowski is deceased.
Mrs. Rutowski was employed for over 20 years with the Marleau-Hercules Fence Co. She enjoyed gardening and traveling to Mackinaw. She was a member of the St. Clement Altar/ Rosary Society, AARP Trilby Chapter 1990, Chester Zablocki Senior Center, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 2898, and the LCBA Branch 1434.
A memorial mass will take place at 1 p.m., Friday, at St. Clement Catholic Church in Toledo. Interment services will be private.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the St. Clement Altar/Rosary Society or the Chester Zablocki Senior Center.

Mary F. Thomas
Fostoria resident
Mary F. Thomas, 77, formerly of Lynn St., died at 1:05 p.m., June 26, 2001, at the St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.
She was born in Seneca County, March 24, 1924, to Frank D. and Minnie M. (Hawk) Calhoon, both are deceased.
She is survived by a son, John Thomas of Fostoria and a granddaughter, Dakota Marie Thomas of Fostoria.
Two brothers, Russell and William Calhoon are deceased.
Mary Thomas was a homemaker and had worked at Keyes Dry Cleaning and Sterling Foods in Fostoria.
Graveside services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Fountain cemetery. The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will officiate.
Visitation is 9-10 a.m., Thursday, prior to services at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Eugene L. Distel
General Electric retiree
Eugene L. Distel, 83, of 37 Westwood Drive in Tiffin, died at 5:45 p.m.Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 1, 1917, to Arthur J. and Cora K. (Shultz) Distel. On Sept. 8, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, he married
Clara L. Cramer and she survives.
Survivors also include: four sons, David A. Distel of Findlay, Dennis E. Distel, Dean (Anthony) Distel and Jack C. Distel all of Tiffin; a daughter Mrs. Dennis (Jean) C. Dom of Tiffin; five brothers, Howard, Robert, Richard and John "Butch" Distel, all of Tiffin, and James Distel of Calabasus, Calif; five sisters, Mrs. Paul (Henrietta) Smyser and Mrs. John (Agnes) Zeiger, both of Tiffin; Sr. Joan of Arc, OSU, and Sr. St. Martin, OSU, both of Toledo, and Mrs. Will (Dorothy) Dickson of Roseville, Mich; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Harvey and Arthur Distel are deceased.
Mr. Distel was a 1936 graduate of Calvert High School, and attended one year at the University of Detroit. He served in the 8th Infantry in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Die Repair Dept. at G.E. in Tiffin.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, a third degree lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 608, The New Life Heart Club, and the Retirees Golf League at Seneca Hills Golf Course.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. James K. Say officiating. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to services. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery with graveside military services provided by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph School, Calvert High School or to Community Hospice Care in Tiffin.
Paul A. Link
Brother of local residents
Paul A. Link, 72, of rural Monroeville died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland.
He was born March 18, 1929 in Attica to Lester and Margaret (Rospert) Link and both are deceased. On May 27, 1967 he married
Juanita Rotruck and she survives.
Survivors also include: a daughter Mrs. John (Paula) Cockie; 2 brothers, James Link of Bellevue, and Bernard "Bud" Link of Tiffin; 2 sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Ann) Pflieger of New Washington, and Sister Mary Agnes of Norwalk; and 2 grandchildren.
Mr. Link was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bismarck. He was an area 6 VP for National Assoc. of Dept. Historians of the American Legion; American Legion Commander Post 547 in 1978-79; the Huron County Commander; Division Commander; District Historian; Dept. Historian 1996-97; K of C St. John Neumann life member of American Legion 547; Bellevue Eagles; 40-8 Voiture 1057. He graduated from St. Paul School in 1948.
He retired in 1969 from the Army and served in Germany, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Mr. Link worked at Bellevue Mfg. and retired in 1991.
Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with the Rev. John Naegle officiating. Burial will be in St. Sebastian Parish cemetery, with a military graveside service provided by the Monroeville American Legion 547.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Auxter Funeral Home in Bellevue. The rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Buckeye Boys State in care of the American Legion.
Ralph C. Turner
Retired Tiffin policeman
Ralph C. Turner, 75, of 55 Elmwood, died at 6 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in his residence.
Mr. Turner was born March 12, 1926, in Tiffin to David and Mary Jane (Jacoby) Turner. He married
Theda M. Twining Fetters Aug. 29, 1980, in Jamestown, R.I., and she survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, William C. Jancsin of Temperance, Mich., Ralph J. Turner of Tiffin, and Steven D. Turner of Toledo; three daughters, Mary Jane Dawkins of Columbus, Carol Ann McGannon of Wheeling, W.V., and Denise Sue Turner of St. Paul, Mich.; two step-daughters, Denise M. Twining of Jamestown, R.I., and Cheryl L. Cramer of Tiffin; five grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.
Deceased are: a brother, David Turner; two half-brothers, Harold Smith and Kenneth Smith; and two sisters, Clarabelle Turner and Erma Becker.
Having spent his lifetime in Tiffin, he attended Tiffin schools; served in World War II in the Army Tank Corp; was a Tiffin policeman for 26 years, retiring in 1978, and retired in 1990 from the exterminating business. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, in the Turner Engle Funeral Home with the Dr. Arthur M. Geyh officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery where the United Veterans Council will conduct graveside services.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Rickie A. Pethe
Fostoria homemaker
Rickie A. Pethe, 74, of 461 E. Tiffin St., Fostoria, died at 10:22 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in her daughter's home in Lima.
She was born July 16, 1926, in Steubenville to John and Anna (Kish) Mihalyo. She married
Arthur E. Pete on Dec. 27, 1953, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Findlay, and he survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two sons, Timothy M. of Fostoria, and Kelly A. of Delaware; three daughters, Mrs. Nathan (Kim) Heckathorn of Fostoria, Mrs Jim (Tobie) Reese and Mrs. John (Natalie) Lord, both of Lima; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Andrew, Regis and Mike Mihalyo, all of Steubenville; and three sisters, Regina Mihalyo and Mary Chilinski, of Steubenville, and Tobie Seals of New Haven, Ind.
An infant son and a brother, John, are deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.
The Rosary will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the St. Wendelin Church, Fostoria, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. and burial in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Rita's Hospice, Lima, or Community Hospice Care of Seneca County.
George 'Mick' Moore Sr.
Whirlpool retiree
George "Mick" Moore Sr., 66, of 3868 CR 195, Clyde, died at 7:35 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in the Ohio Veterans Home where he had been residing for three and one-half years.
He was born Feb. 26, 1935, to George and Ella D. (Harrison) Moore. He married
Norma Darr who survives along with his parents; three sons, Steven Stallings of Galion, Thomas Stallings of Huron, and George (Guy) Moore, Jr. of Fremont; four daughters, Louanne Robison and Marma Schoenfeld of Fremont, Georgia Moore and Annette Moore of Clyde; 11 grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Annon of North Dakota, Martha Cooper of Fostoria, and Mary Miller of Crestline.
Deceased are: two sons, Keith Allen Moore and Anthony George Moore; a grandson; two brothers, Robert and Melvin Moore; and a sister, Barbara Moore.
He served in the U.S. Army, and retired in 1991 from the Clyde Division of Whirlpool after having been employed there for 23 years.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the Pastor Robert Annon officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.
Visitation will be noon-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Blair Maxwell Drake
NOBA, Inc. founder
Blair Maxwell "Max" Drake, 91, formerly of Tiffin, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in the Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville, Tenn.
He was born Jan. 5, 1910, in Williams County to C.C. and Marilla (Shreve) Drake. On June 6, 1934, he married
Marion Hodges and she died in 1998.
Survivors include: four sons, David of Tiffin, Jim of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Steve of St. Louis, Mo., and Paul of Huron; a daughter, Ellen Drake of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Harold and Maurice, are deceased.
Max graduated from The Ohio State University and was the founder and first general manager of NOBA, Inc. in Tiffin. As an animal breeder, he was a pioneer in the field of artificial insemination with beef and dairy cattle. He earned numerous awards from civic, university and agricultural organizations including: The Ohio State Agricultural Hall of Fame, Distinguished Service to OSU, the Ohio State University Alumni Citizenship Award, the National Dairy Shrine Pioneer Award, and in retirement, the Marvin E. Howell Award for Distinguished Service to the Economic Development in Hillsdale County, Mich.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hillsdale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Grove cemetery, Pioneer.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Doris E. Swartz, 78, of Sandusky Co. Rd. 312, Bellevue, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in Bellevue Care Center.
She was born April 29, 1923, in Philadelphia to Sam and Anna McApee. She married
Glen Swartz June 26, 1948. He died in September of 1996.
She is survived by two grandsons.
A son, Glen Jr., is deceased.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, in the Auxter Funeral Home, Bellevue, with the Rev. Andy Winters officiating. Interment will be in York Chapel cemetery.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kenneth L. Eckhardt
New Riegel resident
Kenneth L. Eckhardt, 68, of New Riegel, died at his home on Wednesday, June 27, 2001. He was born on Jan. 16, 1933 to Harry and Geneva (Stinehart) Eckhardt.
Surviving include: a son, John Eckhardt of Findlay; three brothers, Paul Eckhardt of Bradner, Jack Eckhardt of Stuart, Fla., and Robert Eckhardt of Leander, Tx.; and a grandchild.
Deceased are: a sister, Marjorie Leimgruber.
Mr. Echhardt retired from the Budd Company in North Baltimore.
The Rev. Rolland Stinehart will officiate the 1 p.m. Monday funeral services at Barndt Funeral Home, 121 West South St., Wayne. The burial will be at Memory Gardens cemetery in Bowling Green.
There are no visitation hours.

Ralph C. Turner, 75, of 55 Elmwood St., Tiffin, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at his home. He was born March 12, 1926 in Tiffin.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday with visitation one hour prior to the service.
The Fraternal Order of Police will have a Memorial Service at 12:30 p.m.
