Mary E. Hall
Mother of Tiffin resident
Mary E. Hall, 88, of Bedford, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Nancy Walton. She had been in failing health for the past several months.
She was born Nov. 1, 1912, in Dudley, to Charles and Nancy E. (VonMoss) Fessler. On Sept. 4, 1929, in Dudley, she married
Fred B. Hall. He died Aug. 20, 1987.
Survivors include: 10 children, Doris Eshelman of Everett, Melvin L. and Kenneth E. Hall, both of Dudley, Joseph C. and Chester A. Hall, both of Saxton; Mrs. Sonny (Florence) Hess of James Creek, Alton L. Hall of Broad Township, Samuel J. Hall of Bedford, Mrs. Ronald (Fern) Otto of Tiffin, and Mrs. Mike (Nancy) Walton of Bedford; 32 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Robert and George Fessler, both of Saxton, and Sam Fessler of Dudley; and three sisters, Hazel Jones and Vera Fessler, both of Dudley, and Mrs. Jim (Bunny) McCoy of Meadville.
Mrs. Hall, a homemaker, was a member of the Union Church and the Riddlesburg Bible Church.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in the Riddlesburg Bible Church with the Rev. John Miller and the Rev. Jesse Musser officiating. Burial will be in the Reformed cemetery in Yellow Creek.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Riddlesburg Bible Church and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by D. Ronald Long at the Funeral Chapel in Saxton.
Dory Lane Jackson
Father of local residents
Dory Lane Jackson, 72, Van Buren, died at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, W.Va.
He was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Reader, W.Va., to Bert and Ritta (Furbee) Jackson, and both are deceased.
On March 16, 1950, he married
Laura McCartney and she survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Gary Jackson of Nashville, Tenn., and Scott Jackson of Findlay; and seven daughters, Mrs. Richard (Bonnie J.) Sterling of Van Buren, Mrs. Tommy (Peggy L.) Gugliotti of Knippa, Texas, Mrs. Martin (Debra S.) Feigert and Mrs. Thomas (Jackie L.) Ramge, both of Findlay, Tami J. Rader of Van Buren, Mrs. Donald (Martha A.) Mathias of Fostoria, and Mrs. Daniel (Patricia J.) Turk of Tiffin; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald A. Jackson of Middlebourne, W.Va., and a sister, Loretta Ernestine (Tine) McMillan of Paden City, W.Va.
A brother, Charles Jackson, is deceased.
Mr. Jackson was a retired truck driver for W. Hoops Trucking Co. and was a member of F.O.E. Aerie 2118 in Findlay. He played any stringed instrument in various local bands for over 50 years.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday at Smith-Crates Funeral Home, 515 N. Main St. in North Baltimore. The Rev. Hal Argabright will be the officiant. Burial will be in Weaver cemetery.
Visitation in 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Jesus A. Mendez
Clyde/Whirlpool retiree
Jesus A. Mendez, 73, of 107 Michael St., Bettsville, died at 10:06 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Bettsville.
He was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Laredo, Texas, to Manuel and Gertrudis (Siller) Mendez, and both are deceased. On Nov. 7, 1949, in Laredo, he married
Maria L. Garcia and she survives.
Survivors also include: eight children, Jesse A. Mendez of Bettsville, Mrs. Larry A. (Joyce) Bradford of Fostoria, Mary L. Payne and Sylvia Mendez, both of Fostoria, Esther Myers of Toledo, Irene (Perry) Buchanan III of Bettsville, Virginia A. (Stephen) Gabel of Clyde and Norma J. Mendez of Tiffin; two brothers, Jose H. Mendez of Laredo, Texas, and Manuel G. Mendez of Detroit; two sisters, Margarite Raffetto of Dallas and Blanca Lila Leyva of Laredo, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Manuel Mendez Jr. and Gilberto Mendez; and four sisters, Aurora M. Arnold, Herminia M. Sanchez, Genovena M. Guerra, and Gudalaupe M. Martinez.
Mr. Mendez was a World War II veteran. He retired from Whirlpool Corp. in Clyde and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Kansas.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Millersville. Father Ted Miller will be the officiant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Bettsville. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the family and/or Hospice of Fremont Memorial Hospital.
Robert L. Shiley
Arcadia resident
Robert L. Shiley, 86, of Arcadia, died at 8:24 p.m. at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.
He was born May 4, 1915, in Seneca County, to Lewis and Eudora (Grubb) Shiley. On Oct.19, 1935, in Fostoria, he married
Mary C. Reinhard and she died Oct. 4, 1999.
Survivors include: two sons, Dennis Shiley of Fostoria and David Shiley of New Knoxville; a daughter, Mrs. David (Janet) Corbin of Arcadia; two brothers, Harold Shiley of Carey and Raymond Shiley of LaGrange; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
His parents, a brother, Harlan Shiley, and two great-great-grandchildren are deceased.
Mr. Shiley retired in 1977 as a truck driver for Miller Tile Co. in Bascom. He was a 1934 graduate of Fostoria High School and a member of Enon Valley Presbyterian Church.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria, with Tom Everett officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens near Arcadia.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Enon Valley Presbyterian Church.
Nicholas Young III
Clyde resident
Nicholas Young III, 54, of Vine St., Clyde, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at Firelands Community Hospital in Sandusky. He was born June 13, 1947 to Nicholas and Marjorie (Zitzer) Young Jr., both are deceased. His step-father James Crum, Jr. is also deceased.
Surviving include: an aunt and uncle, August and Anna Schrader of Green Springs.
Mr. Young lived his entire life in Clyde and worked for Sandco Industries since 1972.
The Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.
Visitation hours are one hour prior to the service.

Mary Louise Hoppes

Mary Louise Hoppes, 84, of 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at St. Francis Home. She was born June 15, 1917 in Seneca County to Clarence and Mazel (Egbert) Sherman. On March 27, 1937 she married
Gaylord P. Hoppes in Tiffin. He died Sept. 11, 1991.
Surviving include two sons, Sheldon Hoppes of Old Fort and William Hoppes of Findlay; three daughters, Susan Hoppes of Tiffin, Mrs. Martha Dryfuse of Flint, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Garay of Cygnet; a sister, Iretha Sherman of Tiffin; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Deceased are: two brothers, William and Carl Sherman.
Mrs. Hoppes was a 1936 graduate of Columbian High School and a homemaker. She was a 60 year member of "Egbert's" Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jared Williams will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Saturday, funeral service at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Jacob's cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Barbara J. Evers

Barbara J. Evers, 67, 706 Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at her home. She was born March 23, 1934 to James and Vella (Broshers-Anderson) Jackson. She married
Paul L. Evers. He died on April 11, 1980.
Surviving include: a son, Paul Evers of Conyers, GA.; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia A. Pullom of Findlay; five brothers, Andrew Jackson of Toledo, Conley White of of Norfolk, VA., James White, Gene Jackson, and Larry White, all of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Fitch of Tiffin, and Anita White of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Deceased are: a daughter, Rose Ann Johnson; and a brother, Billy Broshers.
Mrs. Evers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fostoria and its Mother's Board.
The Rev. T.A. Smith will officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday, funeral service at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Jack L. Crawford

Jack L. Crawford, 71, of East Lytle St., Fostoria, died at 10:24 p.m. at the Toledo Hospital. He was born Nov. 17, 1929 to Arthur S. and Lena M. (Hanna) Crawford, Sr. On Oct. 10, 1959 he married
Nancilee Sherick. She died March 6, 1999.
Surviving include: two sons, W. Tod Crawford of Fostoria and Ricky L. Crawford of Lebanon; two daughters, Tammy L. Clark and Melanie Crawford, both of Fostoria; two brothers, Charles and Bob Crawford, both of Fostoria; four sisters, Mrs. Wanda Stevens, Mrs. Donna Fettro and Mrs. Carolyn Tolbert, all of Fostoria, and Mrs. Ann Walters of Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Deceased are: a brother, Arthur Crawford; and a sister, Bernice Keckler.
Mr. Crawford retired from Union Carbide Corporation in 1983. He was a member of Dillon Road Baptist Church in Fostoria.
The Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery.

Melvin R. Hanna
Retired GE employee
Melvin R. Hanna, 78, of 74 Kensington Ave., died at 8:22 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2001, at Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, where he had been a patient for eight days.
Mr. Hanna was born April 28, 1923, to William and Myrtle (Schell) Hanna. He married
Golden Watts June 12, 1943, in Alliance, Neb., and she survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Richard of Tiffin, Kenneth of Memphis, Tenn., and William of Ottawa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John (Ruth) Burkhardt of Tiffin.
Two brothers, Willis and Cecil; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (June) Campbell, are deceased.
He was a 1941 graduate of Republic High School; served in the U.S. Army during World War II; a member of First Lutheran Church; and retired as a machine operator after 38 years at General Electric.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Margaret Marks officiating. Graveside service conducted by the United Veterans Council will be at Pleasant Ridge cemetery.
Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edward Rowland Snyder

Edward Rowland Snyder, 86, of 28 Windstone Dr., Findlay, died at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Winebrenner Village, Findlay.
He was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Cleveland to Rowland and Julia (McGreevy) Snyder. He married
Marie B. Fornes April 10, 1939, and she survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, James E. of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Robert J. of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Julieanne Myers of Bloomville, and Diane Bell of Findlay; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Dove of Fostoria.
Preceding him in death include: a daughter, Sheila Messmer and a sister, Mary Rettig.
Mr. Snyder managed the stockyard in Arlington in the 1940's; retired in 1976 after over 25 years of employment from Fornes Brake Service; member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Findlay and its Holy Name Society and 55 plus group, Loyal Christian Benefit Association, Hancock County Senior Citizens, and past president of the Findlay Fishing Club.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Michael Catholic Church, Findlay, with burial in St. Michael Catholic cemetery, Findlay.

Mary Evelyn "Billie" Smith, 81, of 762 Ranchwood Drive, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2001, at her residence.
She was born in Clyde on April 5, 1920, to Edwin and Marguerite (Kopp) Swanson. On Jan. 31, 1942, in the Kenyon College Chapel in Gambier, she married
Dr. Quentin B. Smith, who practiced medicine in Tiffin for 20 years and in 1971 established the emergency room at Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He died in 1981.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. S. Dailey (Penny) Turner of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Charles W. Blount IV of Columbus and Chaille E. Blount of Tiffin; two step-grandchildren, Michelle A. Turner of Glendale, Calif., and Scot T. Turner of Columbus; and a sister, Mrs. Eldon (Geraldine) Burgess of Montrose, Calif.
A homemaker, Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Clyde High School and a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church, Old Trinity Altar Guild and Penthouse Club.
The Rev. John Trumbull will officiate at the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday at Old Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Castalia cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

William D. Stout
Basic Inc. retiree
William D. Stout, 81, of Briarwood Circle, Fremont, died Friday, June 22, 2001, in the Medical College of Ohio.
Mr. Stout was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Clyde to Edward and Minnie (Green) Stout. He married
Marian Kohlenberg April 30, 1941, in Mansfield and they had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include: a son, Ken D. of Fremont; two daughters, Judith Harrah of Green Springs and Joyce Thuernau of Plymouth, Mich.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn of Green Springs; and two sisters, Martha Wood of Flowery Branch, Ga., and Lenna Winegardner of Green Springs.
A brother, Walter, preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Okinawa. Badges included the Combat Infantryman Badge and Expert Rifle; decorations and citations included Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He was employed by Basic Refractory 39 years, where he was a foreman in the special production department and retired in 1981. He was a member of Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church and Quarter Century of Basic Co.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont, with the Rev. Robert J. Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
