Howard B. Smith
Former insurance manager
Howard B. Smith, 82, of 1927 Camden Dr., Findlay, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Hancock County to Arnot L. and Nellie M. (Burson) Smith and married
Thelma L. Russell on March 9, 1940, who survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David G. of Wadsworth; a daughter, Deanna Sue Mitcler of Findlay; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Hobart W. (Nina B.) Farthing of Findlay.
Two brothers, Elmer L. and Earl F.; and a sister, Thelma Smith, are deceased.
He formerly lived in Santa Monica, Calif. where he managed a Western and Southern Life Insurance office while living in California; retired in 1978 after 33 years in sales and management with Western-Southern Life Insurance Co.; retired after working 11 1/2 years as foreman at Remington Arms; and was a member of the Eagle Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, with the Rev. Gene Milioni and the Rev. Dave Fetter officiating. Burial will be in Bishop cemetery near Arlington.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joe Richard Kirk
Retired operations manager
Joe Richard Kirk, 75, of 4761 Tahiti Drive, Bonita Springs, Fla., and Findlay, died at 1:26 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Lee Memorial Health Systems Hospital, Fort Myers, Fla.
He was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Fostoria, to Roland and Beckham Gobel (Bond) Kirk. On July 1, 1950, in Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, he married
Beverly A. Flechtner, who survives in Bonita Springs.
Survivors also include: a son, Joe R. Kirk II of Findlay; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Jenny A.) Murphy of Findlay and Mary J. KIrk of Marysville; two brothers, Robert W. Kirk of Findlay and David B. Kirk of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Rolda) Holden of Eau Clair, Wis.; and four grandchildren.
A 1943 graduate of Fostoria High School, he attended Miami University, Oxford, for two years.
Mr. Kirk retired in 1990 as operations manager from O.H. Materials Corp. in Findlay, after 20 years of employment.
He also worked for Autolite in Fostoria for eight years; Standard Products in Port Clinton for more than 16 years; G & W Engineering in Pontiac, Mich., for five years; and was self-employed with J & M Sports Center, Grand Traverse Sports and Varsity Sports, all in Traverse City, Mich.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served 1943-46, he was a member of the National Guard, Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria; Fostoria Lodge 288 Free and Accepted Masons, Council 26, Chapter 72 and Commandery 23, all of Sandusky;
Elks Lodge 1718, Port Clinton; and the Fostoria Exchange Club.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in Wesley United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, where Masonic memorial services will take place at 7 p.m.

Josephine Einfalt
Retired Webster secretary
Josephine Einfalt, 91, of 670 E. SR 18, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Autumnwood Care Center, where she was a resident.
She was born Feb. 25, 1910, in Pomeroy, to Albert H. and Olga (Kautz) Fell. Her husband, Paul T. Einfalt, whom she married
Oct. 24, 1940, in Columbus, preceded her in death July 3, 1988.
Survivors include: a sister, Mary Ellen Steger; three nieces, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Stewart of Mansfield, Barbara Major of Dublin and Carlene Le Compte of Knoxville, Tenn; and five great nieces and nephews.
A high school graduate, Mrs. Einfalt had been employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at Webster Mfg. Co.
She was a member of the Lady Lions and the Overseas Irish Club.
Graveside services will take place at a later date in Union Grove cemetery, Canal Winchester.
There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Support Group of Tiffin and Seneca County and the Tiffin Lions Club.

George E. Kummerer, 62, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at his home at 114 Liberty St. Arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
Grace L. Byers

Visitation for Grace L. Byers, 79, of 5850 Margate Blvd., Margate, Fla., who died Sunday, May 6, 2001, in the Coral Plaza Retirement Home, Margate, are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Services at the funeral home will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Jeffrey Waite officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Betty M. Rhudy
Retired registered nurse
Betty M. Rhudy, 78, of Lawrence Street, Bellevue, died Friday, May 11, 2001, in Providence Hospital's Jackie Mayer Rehab Center, Sandusky.
She was born June 16, 1922, in Jagger, Ala., to Jeremiah and Bessie Viola (Edwards) Mays. In May 1945, she married
Walter J. Rhudy, who survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Ted Rhudy of Tempe, Ariz.; two sisters, Ethel Adkins of Canton and Myrtle Bailey of Whitmore, Ky.; two step-grandchildren; and her caretaker and niece, Donna Fuchs of Canton.
Two brothers, Marlin and Harley Mays, also are deceased.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Rhudy worked in surgery for 15 years and as a nurse at General Electric in Bellevue for 22 years, retiring in 1982.
She graduated from Lynch Schools in Kentucky and from nursing school in Knoxville, Tenn.
A resident of Bellevue since 1954, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Women's Christian Society and the Senior Citizens, all of Bellevue.
The Rev. Douglas Lewis will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Tuesday service in First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.
The Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jeannette S. Schroeder
Granddaughter of Tiffin resident
Jeannette S. Schroeder, 43, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at her home at 7180 SR 61 North, Shelby.
She was born May 2, 1958, in Willard, to Gerald and Alfreda (Hartenstein) Dannemiller. Her mother survives in Willard. On Aug. 20, 1977, she married
Donald L. Schroeder. He also survives.
Other survivors include: four brothers, Thomas and John Dannemiller, both of Shelby; James and Andrew Dannemiller, both of Willard; five sisters, Mrs. John (Barbara) Gosser and Mrs. Kevin (Arlene) Eidt, both of Shelby, Mrs. Mike (Ruth) Blaisdell and Mrs. Greg (Pauline) Bogner, both of Willard, and Mrs. Eric (Marie) Baumgartner of Oxford; her maternal grandmother, Cora Hartenstein of Tiffin; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father in 2000.
Mrs. Schroeder, a 1976 graduate of Pioneer Joint Vocational School and Willard High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, received an associate's degree in accounting from North Central Technical College.
She worked in various positions with local banking institutions and in the Plymouth and Willard school systems. She was working on a bachelor's degree in education at Ashland University.
A member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and its Family Life Team, she also served as a religious education teacher.
She enjoyed reading and the performing arts.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Shelby, with the Rev. John C. Missler as celebrant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery, Plymouth.
Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday in the Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St., Shelby, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary School Endowment Fund.
Yoshi Chinen
Relative of New Riegel resident
Word has been received that Yoshi Chinen died April 27, 2001.
She was born Dec. 20, 1914 in Shuri, Okinawa. Her husband, Kashin Chinen died Oct. 22, 1987 in Naha City, Okinawa.
Survivors include: two sons, Kenichi Chinen and Kensho Chinen; three daughters, Sumiko Nishioka, Yoneko Weyl and Mrs. Randall (Michiko) Bouillon of New Riegel and currently stationed in Okinawa; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Services took place in Okinawa.
William R. Foos

William R. Foos, 66, of 1338 N. Reed Twp. Rd. 83, died Monday, May 14, 2001, in Mercy Hospital in Willard.
Arrangements are being handled by Foos and Son Funeral Home in Bellevue.
George E. Kummerer
Tiffin resident
George E. Kummerer, 62, of 114 Liberty St., died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Tiffin, to Frank and Mary F. (McLoughlin) Kummerer. They are deceased.
Survivors include: three daughters, Cathy Everhart of Tiffin, Deb Rohrbach of Willard, and Sue Woodruff of Clyde; three brothers, Paul and John Kummerer, both of Tiffin, and Robert Kummerer of Tigerton, Wisc., a sister, Mrs. Louis (Dorothy) Collet of Fostoria; and seven grandchildren.
Deceased include: three brothers, James, Anthony and Glenn Kummerer and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Kummerer.
Mr. Kummerer had served in the Marines and worked in construction. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Graveside services will take place at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Joseph cemetery. The Rev. James Say will be the officiant. A memorial mass will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday at St. Joseph Church.
Visitation is at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin, prior to services.

Elaine M. Neller

Elaine M. Neller, 78, of 42 Barcelona Dr., died Sunday, May 13, 2001.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1922, in Lansing, Mich., to Richard H. and
Theda Irene (Myers) Perkins. They are deceased. On June 26, 1943, in East Lansing, Mich., she married
the Rev. Dale E. Neller, and he survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: three sons, Wesley J. Neller of Palm Harbor, Fla., Steven L.R. Neller, and Timothy B. Neller, both of Fostoria; two daughters, Mrs. Ken (Dathel Elaine "Day") Cottrill of Findlay, and Mrs. Gary (Deborah D.) Dible of Fostoria; 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased include: two brothers, Bruce Perkins and an infant brother.
Mr. Neller was a Pastor's wife and homemaker, a member of Fostoria Assembly of God, and an honorary member of Trinity Assembly of God in Bradenton, Fla.
Services will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Fostoria Assembly of God, with the Rev. Charles Jarvis officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Lansing, Mich., followed by interment at Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria, and 9-10 a.m., Thursday in the Fostoria Assembly of God.

Norma J. Reiss

Norma J. Reiss, 64, of 4359 CR 50, died at 8:08 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Mercy Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 15, 1936, in Bradner, to Robert and Elma (Piper) Mirer. Both are deceased. On April 3, 1955, in Fostoria, she married
Marvin Dale Reiss. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1994.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary Reiss of Grand Haven, Mich., and Mark Reiss of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Wise of Tiffin, and Marcia Reiss of Columbus; two brothers, Robert E. Mirer of Muncie, Ind., and Kenneth Mirer of Goshen, Ind., two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Anna) Church of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Mrs. Denny (Nancy) Ross of Milan, Mich., and eight grandchildren.
Mrs. Reiss, was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She graduated in 1954 from Risingsun High School.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, in Tiffin. The Rev. Wendell Shepherd will be the officiant. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m., Thursday, and one hour prior to the service, Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice.
William R. Foos
Ford Motor Co. retiree
William R. Foos, 66, of 1338 N. Reed TR 83 in Attica, died Monday, May 14, 2001, in Mercy Hospital of Willard.
He was born on August 29, 1934, in Bellevue, to Raymond and Delphine (Molyet) Foos. Both are deceased. On May 22, 1965, in Attica, he married
Ruth Schreiner, at Reed Assumption Catholic Church. She survives.
Survivors also include: three sons, Ray Foos of Attica, Ron Foos of New Washington, and Randy Foos of Bellevue; a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Rhonda) Fox of Bellevue; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Marilyn) Campbell of Bellevue; and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are: two sisters, Gwen Hickman and Raydell Wagoner.
Mr. Foos was a Hi-low driver at Ford Motor Co., and retired in 1994. He was a member of the Reed Assumption Catholic Church, VFW Lifetime Member in Bellevue; a 1952 graduate of Norwalk St. Paul; and a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving as a mine sweeper, in the Korean Conflict
Services will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, at Reed Assumption Catholic Church, in Attica. The Rev. John Nagele will be the officiant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m., Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., in Bellevue. A rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Reed Assumption Roof Fund in Attica.
