John V. Steyer
Brother of Tiffin residents
John V. Steyer, 65, of Angola Rd., Holland, Ohio, died suddenly Saturday, April 21, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee.
He was born Oct. 25, 1935, in Tiffin, to Jesse and Edna (Weinandy) Steyer. On May 21, 1955, in Tiffin, he married
Ruth E. Bogner, and she survives in Holland.
Survivors also include: three sons, Donald J. of Curtice, Ohio, Edward I. of Ames, Iowa, and John C. Steyer of Perrysburg; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Debra) McLafferty of Swanton; sisters
Martha Kiczek of Cleveland, Doris Courtney and Mrs. Harold (Norma) Welter both of Tiffin; and five grandchildren.
Deceased are: his parents, a son, Gerald L. Steyer in 1958; and a brother, Arthur.
Mr. Steyer, a U.S. Army veteran, was an operating engineer of Local 18 for 40 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine Church in Toledo, and the Holland American Legion Post 646. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.
Funeral prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., in Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine Church with the Rev. Thomas Wehinger officiating. Interment will be in the Resurrection cemetery.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m., Monday, in the Neville Funeral Home Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Hwy., Holland, with a 7 p.m. service conducted by the Holland American Legion Post 646.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice, the American Heart Association or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Letitia N. Peyton
Fostoria resident
Letitia N. Peyton, 94, of St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria, died at 3:15 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2001, at the center.
She was born Sept. 21, 1906, in Huron, Ohio, to Price and Jessie (Jamison) Cherry. On April 27, 1925, in Sandusky, she married
Harry G. Peyton. He died June 5, 1976.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Peyton of Fostoria, and James Peyton of New Mexico; a daughter, Mrs. William (Norma) Jones of Lake Wales, Fla., 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death also include: a son, George Peyton; two brothers, Donald and Hal Cherry; and sisters, Ruth Conley and Marietta Ludwig.
Mrs. Peyton, a member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Fostoria, was a homemaker and knitted sweaters for the Red Cross during WWI and WWII.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria and will be officiated by Lawrence Lynch. Burial will be in the Fountain cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m., Monday, and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Grace United Church of Christ in Fostoria.
Kindred "PA" Taulbee
Tiffin resident
Kindred "PA" Taulbee, 69, of 21 Orange St., died at 1:03 a.m., Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Tiffin.
He was born June 8, 1931, in Whitesburg, Ky., to Wayne W. and Mahala (Adams) Taulbee. They are deceased. His wife, Julia West, survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Roy H. and Glen Taulbee, both of Tiffin; three daughters, Mrs. Tracy (Annie) Halcomb, Mrs. Elizabeth Sandlin, and Mrs. Marvin Collins, all of Tiffin; a brother, Woodrow Taulbee of Missouri; a sister, Myrtle Brock of Va; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Deceased also include: three brothers, Wayne Jr., Billy E., and Roy Taulbee; and three sisters.
Mr. Taulbee was a retired coal miner in Letcher County, Kentucky.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Tiffin Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. William (Brother Watson) Combs and Merrill Landrum officiating. Burial will be in the Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, and 6-9 p.m., Tuesday at the Tiffin Freewill Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the family of Kindred Taulbee.
Howard L. James
Mills Metal retiree
Howard L. James, 88, of 20437 St. Hwy. 37, LaRue, Ohio, died at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his residence.
He was born on April 10, 1913, in Marion, Ohio, to Henry L. and Clara (Fredrick) James. On June 25, 1950, in Marseilles, Ohio, he married
Louise E. Hougendobler, and she survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Uhl (Karen) Hensel, and Mrs. Randy (Janet) Bryant, both of Upper Sandusky; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Deceased are: a son, Raymond James; three brothers, Charles, Albert and Lonnie James; three sisters, Myrtle Clark, Nellie Pryor, and Princess Carlyle.
Mr. James, employed for over 20 years, retired in 1978 from Mills Metal, in Upper Sandusky. He also had been employed at the former Day Brook Hydraulic Plant, in Upper Sandusky; James Auto Garage; Curtis Wright Air Plane Factory in Columbus; and was a school bus driver for Marseilles School.
He enjoyed working on numerous electrical projects as well as inventing small electronic apparatuses, fishing, hunting, trap shooting, playing cards, and gardening.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Kevin Pees officiating. Burial will be in the Chandler cemetery in Marseilles, Ohio.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Hazel C. (Elder) Staley
Alvada resident
Hazel C. (Elder) Staley, 79, of 12190 CR 10, in Alvada, died at 3:20 a.m., Sunday, April 22, 2001 at her granddaughter's residence near Alvada.
She was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Wyandot County, to James Cady and Hanna D. (Snyder) Phillips. On June 29, 1946, in Angola, Ind., she married
Harley R. Elder. He died Oct. 2, 1992. On June 11, 1994, she married
Norman Staley, and he died March 9, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Chester E. (Shirley) Snyder of New Riegel; a stepson, John Staley of Alvada; a stepdaughter, Mary Berger of Leipsic; a sister, Mary Milton of McCutchenville; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are: five half-brothers, John, Charles, Walter, and James Phillips, and Clarence Warren; and a sister, Laura Harner.
Mrs. Staley was a 60 year member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church of McCutchenville, and the Memorial United Methodist Church in Carey, a 25 year member of the Mccutchenville Grange and the Loyal Order-Women of the Moose Lodge 846 in Tiffin.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay with the Rev. Paul Goetz officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery in Findlay.
Visitation is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

Ione Sherman Cleveland
Green Springs resident
Ione Sherman Cleveland, 92, died at 1:10 p.m., Saturday, April 2001, in the Elmwood Nursing Home in Green Springs.
She was born on July 2, 1908, in Green Springs, to Alberti (Bert) and Sarah Olive (Klinepeter) McCracken. She married
Albert Sherman and he died. She married
Bill Cleveland and he is deceased.
Survivors include a step-son, Arden Cleveland, of Green Springs; two nieces; one nephew; and five step-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Mrs. Wilbert (Marian) Briney and Beryl Schuster.
Mrs. Cleveland, a graduate of Green Springs High school, was a bookkeeper at the Green Springs Co-Op and a member of the Green Springs United Methodist Church.
Services will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Engle-Young Funeral Home in Green Springs. Burial will be in the Green Springs cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Green Springs United Methodist Church.
Jacob M. Schlenker
Fostoria resident
Jacob M. "Jake" Schlenker, 94, of SR 587, died at 8:20 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria.
He was born on August 16, 1906, in Cincinnati, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Brewe) Schlenker. On June 25, 1932, in Fostoria, he married
Thelma I. Quail. She died June 21, 1976.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert Schlenker of New Riegel, William Schlenker of Fostoria, and John Schlenker of West Chicago, Ill; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased include two brothers, Kell and Irving Schlenker; and three sisters, Loretta, Emma, and Mildred Schlenker.
Mr. Schlenker, a 1924 graduate of Fostoria High School, retired as a self-employed farmer in 1968. He was a barber in Fostoria in the 1940's, and employed at National Machinery in Tiffin.
Services will be private. Burial will take place in St. John's cemetery near Fostoria.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m., today, at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Special Care Unit of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Mable Haddad Beaver
Former Tiffin resident
Word has been received that Mable Haddad Beaver, 93, of Lake Park, Florida, died April 14, 2001, at Brighton Gardens in West Palm Beach, Fla.
She was born in Franklin, N. H., on March 21, 1908, to Michael and Saddie Haddad. Her husband of 37 years, Claude Beaver, is deceased.
Surviving include a son, Dr. Brian M. Beaver; two sisters, Minerva Karrip and Edna Gillette; one brother, Michael Karrip; and two grandchildren.
Deceased include: a son, Robert Beaver.
Mrs. Beaver, a former resident of Tiffin, was a member of Oceanview United Methodist Church in Palm Beach, Fla., was a past president of YWCA Wives, and Leisure Hour. For 25 years, she was the Women's Club florist, president of the Couples Club for 35 years, and served on the board of the Washington St. Methodist Church, in Tiffin.
She attended South High School in Grand Rapids. Mich., and later worked for Michigan Bell, New England Bell, and Ohio Bell in Toledo.
Interment will be at 10:30 a.m., June 16, at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens in West Palm Beach.

Teresa M. Murphy
Sister of local residents
Word has been received that Teresa M. Murphy, 83, of Johnsonburg, N.Y., died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at St. Francis Home, in Williamsville, N.Y.
Miss Murphy was born April 11, 1917, in Johnsonburg, N.Y. to Ernest J. and Mattie C. (Meyers) Murphy.
Survivors include: four brothers, Joseph E. Murphy of Bascom, Charles W., and Norman P. Murphy, both of Varysburg, N.Y., and Paul V. Murphy of Attica; seven sisters, Estella M. Petrie of Arcade, N.Y., Viola M. Murphy of Bascom, Sister M. Patrick, SSJ, of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. E. Donald (Genevieve) Burlingame, of Williamsville, N.Y., Mary Frances Reynolds of Corfu, N.Y., Rita A. Murphy of Batavia, N.Y., and Mrs. Arnold (Doris) DuPont of Lansdale, Pa.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Varysburg and housekeeper at the church rectory for many years. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Burial took place April 10 at St. Joseph's Church cemetery, in Varysburg, N.Y.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Julianna Hannam
Former Sycamore resident
Julianna Hannam, 84, of Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, died at 8:04 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2001, in Fairhaven Community.
She was born on May 2, 1916, in Toledo, to Wladislaw and Maryanna (Olexanka) Ciborowski. They are deceased.
On Dec. 26, 1930, in Toledo, she married
Hershal C. Haman. He died Feb. 23, 1988.
Survivors include: two sons, Hershal C. Hannam, Jr. of Lakeland, Fla., and Don V. Hannam of Sycamore; and a daughter, Mrs. James (Hazel) Stillberger of Sycamore; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Deceased include: 11 brothers and sisters, and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Hannam, a homemaker, was a co-owner, with her husband, of Bowlmer Lanes in Sycamore, and was employed at General Electric in Bucyrus.
She was a member of the Sycamore United Church of Christ, the Mohawk Sixty Plus Club in Sycamore; and member and past secretary of the Women's Bowling Association. She enjoyed reading and cooking.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery in Sycamore.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home.

Martha Engler
Bellevue resident
Martha Engler, 91, formerly of Lyme St., Bellevue, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in the Bellevue Care Center.
She was born in Marysville, Ohio, May 15, 1909, to William and Elizabeth (Eickemeyer) Nicol. In 1934, she married
Leonard Engler and he died in 1990.
Survivors include: three sons, David Engler of Minnesota, Bruce Engler of Florida, and Doyle Engler; a daughter, Mrs. Ervin (Barbara) Shufelt of Bellevue; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers and a grandson.
Mrs. Engler, was a laborer for 22-1/2 years at General Electric, in Bellevue. She attended Woodville High School, was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue, and the Navy Mothers.
Graveside services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Bellevue cemetery with the Rev. David Wietelmann officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by Auxter Funeral Home, Bellevue.
