Services for Ruth L. Coull, 85, 225 Mohawk St., who died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2000, at her son's residence in Tiffin, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Seneca Memory Gardens Chapel. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or Cottage Avenue Church of Christ. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert F. Harmon
A-T writer/columnist

Robert F. Harmon, 65, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at his home at 14 Liberty St., Bloomville.

He was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Zanesville, to the late Forest and Bertha (Schenk) Harmon. His wife, Arden A. (LeCrone) Harmon, whom he married Nov. 3, 1957, in Trinity United Church of Christ, survives.

Other survivors include: five daughters, Shar Harmon of Bloomville, Erin Blake of New Hampshire, Cara Kelley of Tiffin; and Sandra and Andrea Harmon, both at home; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Edmund (Ruth Evelyn) Bowman of Zanesville.

A baby brother also is deceased.

Mr. Harmon, a 1953 graduate of Zanesville High School, was employed as a writer/columnist for the Advertiser Tribune. He also was a landscape artist.

A member of Bloomville United Methodist Church, he had lived in the Tiffin area since 1956

A memorial service will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, in Trinity United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Gary A. Hicks and the Rev. William Smith co-officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Bob Harmon Family, in care of Bloomville Lions Club and the First Bank of Bloomville.

Kenneth P. Smith
Retired farmer

Kenneth P. Smith, 72, of 3274 W. TR 98, New Riegel, died at his residence at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000.

He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Seneca County, to Albert and Martha (Welly) Smith. On June 11, 1955, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Mary A. Bogner, who survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Mark A., Gary L. and Greg P. Smith, all of New Riegel; two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Cindy) Holman and Mrs. Larry (Sandy) Bouillon, both of New Riegel; three brothers, Carl Smith of Fostoria, Richard Smith of Tiffin and Myron Smith of Sandusky; a sister, Catherine Schalk of New Riegel; nine grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

A half sister, Alice Seitz; and two brothers, Alfred and Maurice, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Smith, a lifetime grain and livestock farmer, was retired. He also had worked at the former Miller Tile Yard in Bascom.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel and a former member of the Bascom Elevator Board of Directors.

He enjoyed attending farm auctions.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Scott Kramer C.PP.S. and the Rev. Leonard Kistler C.PP.S., as concelebrants. The rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a Christian wake service will take place at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to New Riegel EMS, the American Cancer Society-Seneca County Unit, Community Hospice Care or the donor's choice.

Floyd H. Hilt Sr.
Republic residents father

Floyd H. Hilt Sr., 65, of Sandusky CR 244, Fremont, died at his home Saturday, Dec. 30., 2000.

He was born Aug. 16, 1935, to Clyde and Lillian (Ryder) Hilt. In 1953, he married Claudette I. Mesnard, who preceded him in death Oct. 14, 1978.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd H. Hilt Jr. of Beach Island, S.C. and Clyde J. Hilt of Fremont; two daughters, Penny Irene Willis of Marietta and Candy Ann Owens of Kansas, Ohio; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl J. Hilt of Clyde; four sisters, Betty Gerstenberger of Clyde, Joyce Clere of Genoa, Virginia Kempf of Arizona and Sharon Shultz of Republic; two half brothers, Franklin Arndt of Fremont and Cy Miller of Tennessee; and a half sister, Katherine Drown of California.

Mr. Hilt was employed at Bay Construction in Sandusky and later at Mosser Construction in Fremont, retiring in 1998. He helped construct the Clyde Moose; worked on numerous construction projects at Cedar Point and built numerous homes in the area.

A lifelong Clyde area resident, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde; Clyde Eagles and the National Rifle Association and a lifetime member of the Clyde Moose.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

William D. Lynch Sr.
Father of Fostoria resident

William D. Lynch Sr., 71, of 1300 Bernard Ave., Findlay, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in the Emergency Room at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

He was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Findlay, to Clarence and Lydia (Riker) Lynch. On April 4, 1953, he married Fern L. Phillips. She died July 23, 1997.

Survivors include: six sons, William D. Lynch Jr. of Maybank, Texas, Lawrence L. "Larry" Lynch of Dunkirk, Albert B. and Robert Lynch, both of Findlay, James P. Lynch of Hampton, Va. and Raymond Robinson, also of Findlay; three daughters, Mrs. Francis (Dawn M.) Businger Weiker of Fostoria, Mrs. Fred (Loretta L.) Bingle of Fremont and Mrs. Michael (Mary M.) Hoopman of rural Findlay; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Laura) Hartley and Mrs. Glenn (Annabelle) Gobrecht, both of Findlay.

A sister, Marguerite Gobrecht; and a brother, Thomas Lynch, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Lynch, a retired taxi cab driver, served in the U.S. Army.

The Rev. Scott Salee will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay. Interment will be in Bright cemetery, Marion Township.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice Gift of Dreams or a charity of the donor's choice.

Robert M. Miller Sr.
Former Jolly Rodgers flyer

Robert M. Miller Sr., 80, 35 Grace St., died at 10:48 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Canton, to Marley and Marie (Kapper) Miller. His wife, Frances A. (Kiesel) Miller, whom he married May 6, 1945, in Tiffin, survives.

Other survivors include: six children, Mrs. Craig (Diana) Schalf of Tiffin, Mrs. Henry (Ann) Berkheimer of Bettsville, Robert M. Miller Jr. of Sycamore, James A. Miller of Fort Seneca, Buddy E. Miller of Fostoria and Mrs. Ken (Sandra) Gooding of Tiffin; two brothers, Earl and Eugene Miller, both of Tiffin; a sister, Awilda Faber of Bascom; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, Ralph, Albert and Francis, also are deceased.

A 1939 graduate of Columbian High School, Mr. Miller worked at Tiffin Art Metal as a purchasing agent and traffic manager, retiring after 33 years of employment. He also served as administrator of the Moose Lodge and Pilgrim of Moose, retiring after 15 years. Mr. Miller also worked 38 years as bookkeeper for Maloy-Deran and Moyer Brass and Aluminum Foundry and 19 years as a bookkeeper for SanGregory Cartage.

A World War II U.S. Air Force veteran, serving 1942-45, he graduated flight and engineering schools in Amarillo, Texas and Salinis, Calif, and was shipped to New Guinea in 1943. He flew 47 combat missions as flight engineer and top turret gunner with the Jolly Rodger 90th Bomb Group. He joined the Army Active Reserve in 1949 and remained active for 13 years attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Tiffin VFW Post 2858, where he was a life member and served as a quarter master in 1985 until the time of his death. He also held the post of Adjutant,Veterans Service Officer, secretary, treasurer and past president of Post 6 Dads of Foreign Service, where he also was a life member.

He was active in the Military Order of Cooties and officer in Pup Tent 52-Tiffin. He served as past Seam Squirrel, receiving the 5-star award and was serving as current vice president on the Seneca County Veterans Service Commission.

Mr. Miller also was a member of Tiffin AmVets Post 48, where he was a charter member, Disabled American Veterans 34, Pup Tent 52, Military Order of Cooties;Tiffin Moose Lodge 846, where he served as secretary, and advanced to administrator in 1988 and was awarded the "Pilgrim Degree of Merit" in 1990, retiring from there in 1992.; Tiffin American Legion Post, where he served as a financial officer in 1964, and Eagles 402.

He was honored in 1999 as Seneca County "Veteran of the Year."

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank A. Murd as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. A Christian wake service will take place at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday followed by VFW services.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association and VFW Tiffin Post 2858.

James J. Cholewinski
Retired US missile inspector

James J. Cholewinski, 72, of 936 Country Club Drive, Fostoria, where he had resided since November, died at 11:28 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo. He previously lived in California for 35 years.

He was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Culver, Ind., to the late Stanley F. and Lucy J. (Wilke) Cholewinski. His wife, Aline Ridings, survives in North Carolina.

Survivors also include two sons, Bryan H. Cavender of Knox, Ind. and James John Cholewinski of Thornton, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Carol Risner and Gail Cantrell, both of Knox.; a stepson, Ronald E. Cavender of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sister Mary Jane Cholewinski O.L.V.M. of Toledo, Marie Mapel and LaVerne C. Anderson, both of Fostoria; and a brother, Carl M. Cholewinski of Anaheim, Calif.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Jerry and Stanley Cholewinski.

Mr. Cholewinski, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and Korean Conflict Army Veteran, retired in 1991 as a US missile inspector from Seal Beach Weapons Station in California.

A 1946 graduate of Knox High School, he was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. The United Veterans of Fostoria also will conduct military honors at the church. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Crown Hill cemetery, Knox, with the Rev. John Scott officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care-Tiffin, in care of the Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830, who are in charge of arrangements.

Charles L. Gruelich
Central Soya Co. retiree

Charles L. Gruelich, 87, of Rt. 113 East, Bellevue, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in the Bellevue Care Center, after a short illness.

He was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Bellevue, to Louis and Julia (Rhinehart) Gruelich. On Sept. 14, 1940, in Bellevue, he married Vivian R. Cloud, who survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Robert E. (Karen) Heal of Bellevue; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathleen Lynch of Tiffin.

Also preceding him in death were a son, John Gruelich; three sisters, Vernice Schutt, Hilda Brain and Marguarite Metzger; and two brothers, Urban and Gerald Gruelich.

Mr. Gruelich, a 1932 graduate of St. Mary's High School, Bellevue, was employed at Central Soya Co. in Bellevue for 29 years, retiring as superintendent in 1975.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Four County Young at Heart Senior Center and a life member of Bellevue Elks Lodge 1013. He enjoyed gardening and caring for flowers.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Tucceri officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. The rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception School, 304 E. Main St., Bellevue, OH or the First United Methodist Church, 901 Northwest St., Bellevue.

Betty J. Dillard
Retired Sheriff's dispatcher

Betty J. Dillard, 73, 192 E. Perry St., died at 1:37 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where she had been a patient since Dec. 26.

She was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Tiffin, to George T. and Marcella (Shawn) Turner. Her husband, James L. Dillard, whom she married in 1947, in Tiffin, also is deceased.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmy W. Dillard of rural Tiffin and Michael L. Dillard of Dublin, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Bonnie) Warren and Rebecca Dillard, both of Tiffin; and 10 grandchildren.

A brother, George F. Turner, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Dillard, a lifetime Tiffin resident, retired as a dispatcher from the Seneca County Sheriff's Office and from the Bellevue General Electric.

She graduated in 1945 from Columbian High School.

Pastor James Michaels will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to her family.

Josephine M. Yirga
Upper Sandusky homemaker

Josephine M. Yirga, 76, of 310 Hill Top Drive, Upper Sandusky, where she had lived for the past 13 years, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky. She had formerly resided in Gallop, Mansfield and St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was born May 16, 1924, in Galion, to John A. and Ruth (Crane) Waterhouse. On June 14, 1941, in Mansfield, she married Lewis H. Yirga, who died Jan. 7, 1998.

Surviving are two sons, L. Larry Yirga of Morral and Jerry A. Yirga of Wharton; a daughter, Mrs. William (Laura L.) Anliker of Titusville, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Harding of Mansfield.

A brother, Melvin Crane, also is deceased.

Mrs. Yirga, a homemaker, also worked for 14 years at the North Electric Co. in Galion.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, both of Upper Sandusky, and served as a volunteer worker for St. Vincent dePaul Thrift Store.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, flower gardening, canning and making grape jelly and listening to and watching the Upper Sandusky High School Band.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mansfield Memorial Park, Mansfield.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, where a prayer service will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Endowment Fund or the Upper Sandusky High School Band, in care of the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
