Dr. Dorsey Wayland Brause
Brother of Tiffin/Bloomville residents
Word has been received of the death of Dr. Dorsey Wayland Brause, 73, who died around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at his home in Mission Viejo, Calif. of cancer
He was born May 20, 1927, in Bloomville.
Survivors include: a daughter, Ann B. Barkley of Mission Viejo; a son, Ned G. Brause of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a brother, Carl Brause of Bloomville; three sisters, Dr. Carolyn George of Toledo, Mary Schock of Pinellas Park, Fla. and Dorothy Bogart of Tiffin; and six grandchildren.
Dr. Brause retired as executive vice president of Trinity University Law School.
Memorial services will take place at 1:30 p.m., Dec. 30, in Mission Hills Church, Mission Viejo. Burial is at 2:30 p.m. today in El Toro Memorial Park, Lake Forest, Calif.
Visitation is noon-2 p.m. today in the O'Connor Laguna Hills Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, Calif.

William A. Flechtner
Fostoria Industries retiree
William A. Flechtner, 82, of North Main Street, Fostoria, died at 1:35 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.
He was born Aug. 20, 1918, in Fostoria, to Moes and Kathryn (Manecke) Flechtner. His wife, Virginia (Johnson) Flechtner, whom he married
Sept. 29, 1940, in Clyde, died Jan. 22, 1995.
Survivors include: a son, Gerald Flechtner of Fostoria; and a sister, Freda Longanecker of Central Point, Ore.
Mr. Flechtner retired in 1989 from Fostoria Industries, after 39 years of service.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria, with the Rev. David Chapman officiating.
There will be no visitation. The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Helen Perry
Tiffin homemaker
Helen Perry, 78, died at 5:38 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center, where she had been a resident since Aug. 1.
She was born May 17, 1922, in Honeybee, Ky., to Roscoe and Stella (Perry) Goodin. On Aug. 11, 1951, in Morgan County, Tenn., she married
James Perry, who died June 14, 2000.
Surviving are nieces and nephews; a brother, Henry "Dick" Perry of Honeybee; and a sister, Zada Repp of Tiffin.
Also deceased are a daughter, Virginia Perry; two brothers, Ernest and Clarnece Goodin; and four sisters, Faye Perry, Eva Rohe, Ruby Lane and Minnie Smith.
A homemaker, Mrs. Perry was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. She lived most of her life in the Tiffin area.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with Brother Combs officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Edith L. Shappell
LaSalle's Dept. store retiree
Edith L. Shappell, 92, formerly of 17 Maple St., died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in the Elmwood at the Shawhan, where she had resided since January.
She was born Oct. 2, 1908, in Columbus Grove, to Elijah Gilbert and Clara Vilora (Thomas) Kramer. Her husband, Harold E. Shappell, whom she married
Sept. 1, 1929, in Gibsonburg, died Jan. 6, 1988.
A son, Dean L. Shappell, survives in Clarkston, Mich.
Also deceased a brother and five sisters.
Mrs. Shappell, a 1926 graduate of Bluffton High School, worked for 21 years at LaSalle's Department Store in Tiffin, retiring in 1973. Before that, she had worked at the F.W. Woolworth store.
The Rev. Scott Hayward will be the officiant at the 2:30 p.m. Friday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Commission on Aging.
Donna D. Sharp
Carey homemaker
Donna D. Sharp, 84, formerly of Carey, died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Findlay, where she had been a resident for the past eight years.
She was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Carey, to Forest B. and Lida F. (England) Schade. In 1940, she married
Roscoe W. Sharp, who died in 1953.
Surviving are two sons, Carl Sharp of Dublin, Ohio and Paul Sharp of Nome, Alaska; six grandchildren; and a sister, Ida Diller of Elyria.
Also deceased are a brother, Arden Schade; and two sisters, Evelyn Powell and Geneva Plotts.
Mrs. Sharp, a homemaker, was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carey and its choir for many years.
A graduate of Wharton High School, she enjoyed gardening, baking and canning.
The Rev. James Sharrett will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Friday service in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Zion Bloom cemetery, Vanlue.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ileen Sturgill
Bloomville resident
Ileen Sturgill, 69, of 4660 CR 49, Bloomville, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Blackey, Ky., to the late Ambrose and Edna (Craft) Mullins. Her husband, Vincent Sturgill, whom she married
Nov. 28, 1950, died Nov. 8, 1998.
Survivors include: six sons, Danny Wilder of Jenkins, Ky., Larry Sturgill of Melmore, Arthur Sturgill of Campbellsville, Ky., Ambrose Sturgill of Vermilion, Clark Sturgill of Upper Arlington and Steve Sturgill of Tiffin; two daughters, Karen Sturgill King of Liberty, Ky. and Margaret Sturgill of Bloomville; three brothers, Robert Mullins of Ravenna, Neb., the Rev. Clarence Mullins of Bloomville and Charles M. Mullins of Carey; a sister, Mary Quillen of Bloomville; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Ray and H. Monroe Mullins, also are deceased.
A homemaker, Mrs. Sturgill was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl Angel officiating. Interment will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Paul Dodok
Computer programmer
John Paul Dodok, 53, 66 Pinewood Drive, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
He was born June 1, 1947, in Cleveland, to John and Helen (Palker) Dodok. His mother survives in Cleveland. On May 30, 1970, in Cleveland, he married
Cheryl J. Bocan, who survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Matt and Jim Dodok, both of Tiffin; a brother, James Dodok of Centerville; a sister, Mrs. John (Bernadine) Theus of Hilliard; and nieces and nephews.
His father died in June.
Mr. Dodok, a 1965 graduate of John Marshall High School, Cleveland, obtained his bachelor's degree in business management from Cleveland State University.
He was employed as a computer programmer for N.A.T. Transportation in Bradner.
A member of the Izaak Walton League, he also gave hunter education instructions; served as a Big Brother for six years and served on the Mercy Hospital Advisory Board.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Elizabeth C. Elchert
Retired registered nurse
Elizabeth C. "Betty" Elchert, 68, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at her home at 50 Autumn Lane.
She was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Perrysburg, to the late Ralph and Lucille (Leahy) Sattler. Her husband, Robert Elchert, whom she married
May 7, 1955, in St. Rose Catholic Church, Perrysburg, survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Jim Elchert of Hillsdale, Mich. and Mark Elchert of Pineville, N.C.; three daughters, Jayne McCormack of Lilburn, Ga., Judy Ruhlen of Tiffin and Karen Williams of Vancouver, Wash.; five sisters, Jeanette Krout of El Cajon, Calif., Lois Bruce of Maumee, Barbara Russell of Perrysburg, Patricia Relitz of Valley City, Ohio and Donna Mocniak also of Perrysburg; two brothers, Stan Sattler of Findlay and Tom Sattler of Perrysburg; and 13 grandchildren.
Mrs. Elchert, a retired registered nurse, had been employed at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin for many years.
A graduate of Toledo Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Tiffin YMCA.
She also was an avid bridge player and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Say as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or St. Joseph School Library, both of Tiffin.
Edith Fern Hensinger
Resident of Republic
Edith Fern (Zehring) Hensinger, 98, of 3081 N. SR 18, Republic, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in Bellevue Hospital.
She was born Sept. 27, 1902, in Republic to Jacob M. and Julia (Craig) Zehring. On Aug. 5, 1922 she married
Otto Kenneth "Kenny" Hensinger. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are: two sons, Thomas Kent Hensinger of Tulsa, Okla., and Dean L. Hensinger of Bellevue; five daughters, Gwyneth McGuckin of Wellington, Patricia Lee Trumpower of West Lodi, Margene Hensinger of Bellevue, Crystal Ilona Churchill of Green Springs and Sharon Sour of Bellevue; a sister, Leila Frederick of Republic; 32 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were: a son, Otto Gordon; a daughter, Dona Lou White; a brother, Pete Zehring; and a sister, Rose Schwab.
Mrs. Hensinger was a homemaker and member of Fireside United Church of Christ.
The funeral will be private along with the burial at Block cemetery with the Rev. Candy Thomas of Fireside United Church of Christ officiating.
The are no visitation hours. Foos and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

John Kenericks
Jr. Home Graduate
John Kenericks, Jr. Home Graduate of 1941, died Thursday, Dec. 14, at his home in Marietta, Ga. Mr. Kenericks was a World War II Marine Corp veteran and received the Purple Heart for wounds he received on the Tarawa Island during World War II. He retired from the McDonnald-Douglas Aircraft Company in Marietta. He has attended every Jr. Home homecoming since World War II; was very active in alumni affairs; and in high school was considered an outstanding athlete student.
Funeral will be today in the Marietta First United Methodist Church in Marietta, Ga.
Frederick R. "Fred" Scaife
Retired farmer
Frederick R. "Fred" Scaife, 95, of the Autumnwood Care Center and formerly of 2nd Avenue, died at 1:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in the Care Center.
Mr. Scaife was born Aug. 26, 1905, to Thomas and Daisy (Shimel) Scaife in Phillipsburg, Pa. He married
Nellie Wertz on June 16, 1928, in Toledo, and she died May 9, 1990.
Survivors include: six sons, Fred H. of Eden Praire, Minn., Robert L., Richard K., and Jack B. of Tiffin, John R. of Toledo, and David M. of Litchfield; two daughters, Joyce I. Urban of Greenville, Pa., and Jane Shepherd of Flowery Branch, Ga.; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were: three brothers, Thomas L., Henry S., and George W.; a half-brother, William; a sister, Betty Mitzel; and a half-sister, Eva.
He was the oldest surviving Jr. Home Kid having graduated from the Jr. Order UAM in 1926; a former Tiffin Glass worker; a retired farmer; and was among the founders of the Calvary Baptist Church, Tiffin Fishers of Men.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with his grandson, the Rev. James Scaife, officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday and two hours before the funeral service.
Memorials may be made to the Autumnwood Care Center or to a charity of the donor's choice.
John D. Crabtree
Gray Printing retiree
John D. Crabtree, 79, of 1510 Pelton Rd., Fostoria, died at 8:22 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in St. Vincent/Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born in Raleigh, N.C. Jan. 27, 1921, to Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Lyndon) Crabtree. He married
Opal Marie Tate in Harrisburg, Ill. on Dec. 1, 1945, and she survives in Fostoria along with the following: two sons, John Michael of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Joel Dwight of Fostoria; three brothers, Thomas of Garner, N.C., Lewis of Fostoria, and Fred of Tiffin; a step-brother, Milton Booker of Raleigh, N.C.; a step-sister, Iris Anderson of Greenville, S.C.; and one grandchild.
A step-sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Crabtree was a graduate of Wake Co. High School, Raleigh, N.C.; a World War II Veteran of the United States Army, 83rd Division, 329th Infantry, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe from 1942-45; retired in 1984 from the Gray Printing Co. in Fostoria where he had been a compositor for over 37 years.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with interment in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
