Hillis P. 'Mac' McClain
Ohio Bell testman
Hillis P. "Mac" McClain, 80, died at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at his home at 710 Glenwood Ave., Fostoria.
He was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Miletus, W.Va., to James B. and Frankie R. (Barnett) McClain. His wife, Margaret E. (Waugh) McClain, whom he married
Feb. 3, 1957, in Findlay, survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Sharon) Crider of Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. Richard (Toni) Darr of Fostoria; two grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. McClain, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, had been employed as a testman on the desk at Ohio Bell for 20 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of VFW Post 421, American Legion Post 73, Amvets Post 69 and Fostoria Lodge 288 Free and Accepted Masons.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Interment will be in Knollcrest cemetery, near Arcadia, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria..
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. Tuesday until time of the service at the funeral home.

Glenn Junior Sowers
Former Sycamore resident
Glenn Junior Sowers, 78, formerly of 300 E. Saffel Ave., Sycamore, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at 274 Jackson St., Tiffin.
He was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Sycamore, to Glenn Granville and Iadell Fern (Shedenhelm) Sowers. On April 22, 1943, in Detroit, Mich., he married
Iva Dean Berkheimer, who died Feb. 17, 1997.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Pamela Orr of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Katherine Harp of Sycamore; three half-brothers, Lonney Alton Rodgers of Las Vegas, William H. Sowers of Findlay and Robert J. Sowers of Sycamore; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Eugenia Helen Barboa and Mrs. Carol Fetterman, both of Sycamore.
Mr. Sowers, a member of the Protestant faith, had been the owner of Sycamore Tree Service, retiring after 50 years.
He also was a member of the Mohawk Historical Society.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Nov. 18 in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore, with Pastor Jacob Yaeger and Deacon Robert Hartzel as co-officiants.
There will be no visitation. The Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
Delbert 'Dale' Thallman
Former Seneca County resident
Delbert "Dale" Thallman, 89, of Bloomington, Minn. died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2000.
He was born June 24, 1911, in Adams Township, Seneca County, to Arthur and Bertha Thallman. His wife, Faye Thallman, survives in Bloomington.
Other survivors include: two step-sons, Roger and John Holmes; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Herval Thallman of Tiffin; two sisters, Marjorie Johnson of Bascom and Beulah Zavodnik of Sandusky; and other area relatives.
Also deceased are a step-daughter, Geraldine Smith; two brothers, Willard and Earlin Thallman; and a sister, Florence Heaton.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Thallman retired from the Ford Motor Co.
Services took place June 6 in the Hillcrest United Methodist Church, Bloomington, with Pastor Patrick McNally officiating. Interment followed in Fort Snelling National cemetery, Minneapolis, where military rites were conducted at the graveside.
Helen Laurel Sutter
Sutter Steakhouse co-owner
Helen Laurel Sutter, 97, of Bryan, died Saturday evening, Nov. 11, 2000, in the Parkview Nursing Center, Edgerton.
She was born Aug. 4, 1903, in Columbus, to Jason and Daisy (Loughman) Abbott. Her husband, Joseph A. Sutter, preceded her in death in 1964.
Six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren survive.
Two sons, Melvin L. and Richard L. Sutter; a sister, Nel Moratt; and a great-grandson, are deceased.
Mrs. Sutter, a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Bryan, was the co-owner of Sutter Steak House.
Services will be private. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove cemetery, Bryan.
The Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home, Bryan, is in charge of arrangements.
Russell W. 'Bussy' Althouse
Retired grain/livestock farmer
Russell W. "Bussy" Althouse, 89, formerly of Eden Township Road, Upper Sandusky, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky, where he resided.
He was born Oct. 14, 1911, in Eden Township, Wyandot County, to Albert and Della (Swan) Althouse. On Oct. 9, 1937, he married
Elizabeth Needs, who died Jan. 26, 1997.
Survivors include: two sons, Richard V. Althouse of Upper Sandusky and James A. Althouse of Marion; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Florence Balliet and Vera Daughmer, also are deceased.
Mr. Althouse, a retired Eden Township grain/livestock farmer, was a member of Union United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, for more than 50 years.
A 1930 graduate of Eden High School and a graduate of Marion Business College, he enjoyed fishing in Canada and playing cards with his friends.
He also was a member of BPOE 83, Upper Sandusky.
The Rev. Sonja Bender will be the officiant at the 1:30 p.m. Thursday service in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be at noon Thursday until time of the service at the funeral home.

Harry D. Hawk Sr.
Atlas Crankshaft retiree
Harry D. Hawk Sr., 87, died at 11:22 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at his home on W. TR 36, Kansas, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 16, 1913, in Galipolis, to August and Rome (Ward) Hawk. His wife, Augusta M. (Smiley) Hawk, whom he married
June 1, 1936, in Tiffin, died Sept. 27, 1990.
Surviving are: a son, Harry D. Hawk Jr. of Kansas; three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Joyce) Haubert and Mrs. Earl (Phyllis) Broadwater, both of Kansas, and Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Bergstedt of Fostoria; a brother, Johnie Hawk of Bascom; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Warren and Charles Hawk; two sisters, Mable Niswander and Minnie Smiley; a grandchild and a great-grandchild also preceded him in death.
Mr. Hawk, a 1921 graduate of Fostoria High School, retired in 1974 from the Atlas Crankshaft Co. in Fostoria. Prior to that he worked as a farmer.
He was a member of Kansas United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Ivan Schwenn officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Patricia Anne Hampton, 64, of Ice, Ky., died. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Health Care Center, Whitesburg, Ky..
She was born Jan. 29, 1936, to the late Jonah and Anna Cornett Mitchell. Her husband, Carmel Hampton, survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Nicholas Hampton of Mayking and Rodney Hampton of Abingdon, Va.; three daughters, Teresa Pease of Tiffin, Anita Bell of Sidney and Lisa Hampton of Whitesburg; five brothers, Don Mitchell and Jerry Ison, both of Tiffin, David Ison of Dayton, Danny Ison of Whites Pines, Tenn. and George Jeffrey Ison, also of Tiffin; three sisters, Betty Hall of Tiffin, Wanda Wagoner and Margaret Ison, both of White Pines; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
The service is at 1 p.m. today in the Letcher Funeral Home, Whitesburg, with the Rev. David Herbert Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Banks cemetery, Ice.

Donald C. Bunting, 63, 133 Golfview Drive, died at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. Further arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
Ruth M. Watt
Clyde homemaker
Ruth M. Watt, 79, of Woodland Avenue, Clyde, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Wood County, to Henry and Edith (Hacker) Fahle. On Sept. 15, 1946, she married
Louis E. Watt, who preceded her in death May 11, 1995.
Survivors include: three sons, Thomas Watt of Clyde, Ronald Watt of Midland, Mich. and the Rev. Alan Watt of Bartlett, Texas; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Ervin (Phyllis) Kerns of Fremont and Mrs. Clair (Lois Ann) Rearick of Gibsonburg.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Marcus and Donald Fahle; and a sister, La Verne Fahle.
Mrs. Watt, a homemaker, graduated in 1939 from Ross High School, Fremont.
She was a member of the Breezy Farm Council, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde, and its Housekeeping Circle. She also served as an adult Sunday School teacher for many years.
The Rev. Garry Gosnell will be the officiant at the 2:30 p.m. Friday service in St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Edward L. Chamberlain Sr.
Ex-Cello Corp. retiree
Edward L. Chamberlain Sr., 91, a resident of Blakely Care Center, North Baltimore, formerly of McCutchenville Road, Fostoria, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.
He was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Wood County, to Frank and Elizabeth (Serveson) Chamberlain. His wife, Nina C. (Creps) Chamberlain, whom he married
June 23, 1930, in Florence, Ky., died Nov. 4, 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty R. Smith of Wayne; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Nine brothers, five sisters and a grandchild, also are deceased.
Mr. Chamberlain, a member of Trinity United Brethern Church, Fostoria, retired in 1973 from the Ex-Cello Corp., Fostoria, where he was employed as a set-up man.
The Rev. Keith Davis will conduct the 1 p.m. Friday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Rudolph cemetery, near Rudolph.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Geraldine Joseph
Former Tiffin homemaker
Geraldine Joseph, 93, formerly of Miami Street, Tiffin, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, where she was a resident.
She was born Dec. 6, 1906, in Fostoria, to John and Cora (Miller) Bradner. Her husband, Oscar C. Joseph, whom she married
July 3, 1925, in Fostoria, died Sept. 20,1969.
Surviving are a son, Charles W. Joseph of Bettsville; a daughter, Caroline Woessner of Fostoria; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her adoptive parents, Wilbur and Rachael Sutliff; and a son, Thomas L. Joseph.
A homemaker, Mrs. Joseph was a member of the Fostoria Church of the Brethren.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.
Memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Donald C. Bunting

Donald C. Bunting, 63, 133 Golfview Drive, formerly of Findlay, died at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born May 10, 1937, in Toledo, to Donald L. and Marian (Binz) Bunting. His mother survives in Juno Beach, Fla. In 1963, in Holy Angels Church, Dayton, he married
Margaret Miller, who also survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, William Bunting of Syracuse, N.Y., and Patrick D. and Mark D. Bunting, both of Tiffin; a daughter, Betsy J. Bunting of Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Gloria Kittilson of East Lansing, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Bunting, who attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, was the owner of Assured Title Agency Inc. of Tiffin.
A member of Tiffin Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, Firelands Association of Realtors and the American Land Title Association, he formerly served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He graduated high school in 1955, with a correspondence course while living in Sao Paulo, Brazil; then graduated in 1959, with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from the College of Wooster. In 1961, he received his masters of arts degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.
He enjoyed golfing, hiking, boating, traveling and walking.
A liturgical service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Say officiating. Burial will be in New Carlisle cemetery, New Carlisle, Ohio.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
