Thomas W. Brookes

Thomas W. Brookes, 55, of 6387 E. CR 12, Bloomville, died Monday evening, Oct. 9, 2000, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 3, 1945, in Bucyrus to John and Ida L. (Denman) Brookes, who are deceased. He married
Lucille Schumacker in July 1965 and she died June 28, 1993. On April 6, 2000, he married
Jean (Wyatt) Brookes in Bloomville. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Gerald of Bloomville; four brothers, John of Bloomville, Robert of Marion, Henry of Tiffin and Richard of Florida; and a sister, Mary Ann Wonder of Tiffin.
He was the owner of Seneca Systems Inc., an environmental remediation service, and the former owner of T-Brookes Unlimited Inc.; a farmer; enjoyed raising horses; was a member of the Melmore United Methodist Church, Melmore Oddfellows, Bloomville Lions and American Legion Caufield Post 434, Bloomville; and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Melmore United Methodist Church with the Rev. Howard Huston officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek cemetery, Tiffin.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, where the Bloomville Lions Club visitation will be at 7:30.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or to Community Hospice Care.
Clara C. Wetzel
Longtime New Riegel resident
Former New Riegel resident, Clara C. Wetzel, 94, of 8883 W. CR 10, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in the Ruffing Family Care Center of Tiffin.
She was born Dec. 6, 1905, in New Riegel, to Joseph F. and Mary (Schmidt) Wetzel. She had never married
.
Survivors include: three nephews, Norbert J. Gosche of Tiffin and Cyril G. Gosche and John J. Wetzel, both of New Riegel; and five nieces, Agnes Thiel of Marion, Eloise Granata and Dorothy Schock, both of Tiffin, Marjorie Kinn of Fostoria and Catherine Ruef of Pinkerington; many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma E. Wetzel and Eleanor Gosche; three brothers, Leo, Albert and Frank Wetzel; and two nephews.
A graduate of New Riegel High School, Miss. Wetzel was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, its Rosary Altar Society and the Catholic Knights of Ohio.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leonard Kistler as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will be at 8:30 p.m. followed by Catholic Knights of Ohio services at 8:45 p.m..
Memorials may be made to the church, Ruffing Family Care Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
Donald K. Porter
Father of Clyde resident
Donald K. Porter, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 in Cuyahoga Falls, where he resided.
He was born in Akron and lived all of his life in the Cuyahoga Falls area. His wife of 48 years, Ruth (Bolich) Porter, is deceased.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Sue Carol) Shellhammer of Clyde and Mrs. Robert (Ann Louise) Becks of Waterford, Mich.; three grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Snyder of Cuyahoga Falls.
Mr. Porter was employed by B.F. Goodrich, retiring in 1972, as section manager of the Experimental Machine Development Department, after 44 years of service.
He was a member of the Akron Unit of the Airstream Club and Akron Alaska Club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ, Cuyhoga Falls, with the Rev. David Kiewit officiating. Interment will be in Copley cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday in the Billow Falls Chapel, 1907 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls.

Deborah K. Tucker
Fostoria homemaker
Deborah K. Tucker, 48, of 661 Broadway St., Fostoria, died at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
She was born Sept. 10, 1952, in Fostoria, to John A. and Agnes (Slaughter) Martin. Her father survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Raina Tucker of Toledo and Vernita Tucker of Fostoria; four brothers, Larry, Garry and Edward Martin, all of Fostoria and Johnny "Bro" Martin of Cleveland; and four grandchildren.
Her mother preceded her in death.
Mrs. Tucker was a homemaker.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Alfred K. Davis
Retired electrical inspector
Alfred K. Davis, 93, formerly of 363 E. Findlay St., Carey, died at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in The Lutheran Home, Napoleon, where he resided.
He was born June 8, 1907, in Crawford, Ohio, to Brayton Hurd and Addie Mae (Ruffner) Davis. On June 8, 1933, he married
Ruth Mildred Diller, who preceded him in death Dec. 17, 1996.
Survivors include: a daughter, Rose Marie Cole of Napoleon; a son, Alan Davis of Plainwell, Mich.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Forest Davis, also is deceased.
Mr. Davis, a 1926 graduate of Carey High School, retired as an electrical inspector for the State of Ohio. In the 1930s he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps near Zanesville where he supervised the planting of many trees. He later became an electrical contractor in the Mansfield area.
A member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and Grace United Methodist Church, Carey, he attended Ohio Wesleyan and Ohio State Universities.
Pastor James R. Sharrett will be the officiant at the 2:30 p.m. Saturday service in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Phyllis J. Tong
New Riegel Provisions retiree
Phyllis J. Tong, 68, of 21700 CR 7, Alvada, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in the Intensive Care Unit of Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.
She was born July 20, 1932, in rural Alvada, to the late Merle and Mildred (Gordon) Boyles. Her husband, Maurice E. Tong, whom she married
Nov. 24, 1954, in Van Wert, with Pastor McCracken officiating, survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Reid E. Tong of Tazewell, Tenn. and Ronald G. Tong of Findlay; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Boyles of rural Findlay; and two sisters, Mrs. Horace "Duke" (Linda) Hensley of Findlay and Mrs. Joe (Karen) Roberts of North Baltimore.
A grandson also is deceased.
Mrs. Tong, a 1951 graduate of Vanlue High School, retired in July 1994 from New Riegel Provision, where she had been employed for 22 years.
A 56 year member of Biglick Center Grange 2224, rural Alvada, she had served as its secretary/treasurer for the past 30 years. She was a also a member of the Protestant Faith and a former member of Eastern Star in Carey.
The Rev. Gene Milioni will conduct the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Henry J. Macias
Fostoria Chrysler Corp. retiree
Henry J. Macias, 76, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 11, 2000, at his home at 10 Barcelona Drive, Fostoria.
He was born July 7, 1924, in Wauseon, to the late John and Antonia (Munoz) Macias. On April 11, 1946, in Findlay, he married
Audrey Deckard, who survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: a son, Anthony "Tony" Macias of Fostoria; two daughters, Mrs. Timothy (Angela) Weber of Fostoria and Mrs. Mark (Amy) Reinhart of Alvada; six grandchildren; four brothers, Louis Macias of Mentor, Richard, Charles and Fred Macias, all of Fostoria; and three sisters, Deloris Bucher of North Baltimore, Mary Gomez of Fostoria and Mrs. Gary (Anita) Mueller of Alton, Ill.
A brother, Robert Macias, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Macias retired in 1980 from Chrysler Corp, in Fostoria, after 37 years of employment, then worked for the Good Shepherd Home, also in Fostoria, for 15 years.
A 1943 graduate of Bloomdale High School, he was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where he served as past parish council and financial committee member; past chair person for the St. Wendelin Parish Festival three years and as a festival volunteer.
He was the founder and served as treasurer of the Fostoria Foundry Credit Union for 29 years; past president of the Fostoria Recreation Board 10 years; served as vice president of Fostoria Civil Service Commission; volunteer at the Good Shepherd Home and was actively involved in UAW Local 446 Chrysler.
An avid Cleveland Indians fan, Mr. Macias also served as an election board volunteer, organized and managed the Foundry Softball Team for many yeas, and worked as a translator for the Fostoria Police and Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m.. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church or the Good Shepherd Home.
Kenneth R. Hopkins
Attica resident
Kenneth R. Hopkins, 85, of Attica died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at his home. He was born May 19, 1915 to Francis Marion and Ethel (Robertson) Hopkins. On June 15, 1940 he married
Helen M. Schwab, and she survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Jean Michaels of Attica; a brother, Carl Hopkins of Bloomville; four sisters, Vera Fry of Marion, Edith Goshe of Bucyrus, Delores Kreim of Newark, and Lois Welder of Bloomville.
He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Leonard and Earl Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins was a farmer and a union carpenter working for Charles Ink until retiring in 1978. He was a 50 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and an avid hunter.
The Rev. Malcolm Brook will officiate the 1 p.m. Saturday funeral service at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher-Funeral Home in Attica. Burial will be at Attica-Venice Twp. cemetery, Attica.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Leonard Marcas Roof
Former Carey resident
Leonard Marcas Roof, 79, of Fairhaven Nursing Home and formerly of Carey, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at the Fairhaven Community of Upper Sandusky. He was born March 23, 1921 to Lawrence and Frances (Seimet) Roof. On Nov. 27, 1941 he married
Opal Trackler, and she survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Robert Roof of rural Dunkirk, and Brad Roof of Conover; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Anne Creamer of Marion; two brothers, Wilbert Roof of Columbus Grove, and Leo Roof of Gilboa; three sisters, Leona Horstman of Cloverdale, Mildred McQuire and Marcella Hutchinson, both of Florida; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Alfred Roof.
Mr. Roof retired from National Lime & Stone of Carey and was a lifelong farmer. A U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II. A member of: the United Steel Workers; North Western Antique Tractor Club; Indianmill Antique Tractor Club; Hancock County Blind Society and was affiliated with the Protestant faith.
The Rev Robert Wood will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday funeral service at the Beach Funeral Home of Carey. Burial will be at Hueston cemetery in Forest with full Military Honors.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Milo J. "Mike" Maso
Father of Tiffin resident
Milo J. "Mike" Maso, 81, of Dodgeville, WI, died on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at Memorial Hospital of Iowa County. He was born on July 30, 1919 in Linden Township to John and Mary (Levake) Maso. On Aug. 20, 1945 he married
Phyllis Fesenfeld, and she survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Sue Maso-Roberts of Tiffin; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Maso of Edmund, WI; and nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death were: a sister, Fern Brennum; and a brother, Roswald Maso.
Mr. Maso farmed near Edmund, WI. until retiring in 1978. He was an avid Stock Car fan and enjoyed traveling to area and national races.
Pastor Brent Campbell and Pastor Jean Bartlett will co-officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday funeral service at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Dodgeville, WI. Burial will be at East Side cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 4-8 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.
Alice M. Farley
Green Springs resident
Alice M. Farley, 86, of Elmwood Nursing Home, Green Springs, formerly of Pataskala, Ohio, died at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000. She was born July 19, 1914 to Homer and Georgette Bowers. On Dec. 9, 1965 she married
Elmer Farley, and he survives. Her first husband, Clyde Schafer, is deceased.
Surviving include: a son, Jack Schafer of Monroeville; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Wilson of Newark; a brother, Homer Bowers of Newark; two sisters, Mrs. Cece Baum of Fremont, and Mrs. Doris Sprau of Helena, Mont.; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were: a daughter, Donna; four brothers, Robert, Leonard, Willard and George Bowers; and two sisters, Mrs. Genny Krauss, and Mrs. Edna Rotsinger.
Mrs. Farley attended Margaretta High School in Castalia, she was a homemaker and a cook and attended the Church of Christ in Utica.
The Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Elmwood Nursing Home, 430 N. Broadway St., Green Springs.
