Gerald 'Dick' G. Holman
Retired diesel mechanic

Gerald "Dick" G. Holman, 68, of 6573 SR 19, Sycamore, died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at his home.

He was born May 28, 1932, in Crawford County to Wayne A. and Anna K. (Kentfield) Holman. He married Shirley A. Vaughn March 16, 1956. She survives.

Also surviving are: two sons, Jerry G. of Bloomville and Michael (Charlie) of Auburndale, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Rocky (Joyce) Lauffer of Grafton; six grandchildren; three brothers, Robert W. and Carl A., both of Sycamore, and Mark of Tiffin; two sisters, JoAnn Holman and Mrs. Charles (Bonnie Sue) Allgyre, both of Sycamore.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Kathryn Sue Holman; and a brother, Frank Holman.

He was a 1950 graduate of Sycamore High School; a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army; a retired diesel mechanic after 37 1/2 years at National Lime and Stone, Bucyrus; affiliated with the protestant faith; and hobbies included fishing, hunting and coon hunting.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with Pastor Daniel Ward officiating. Burial will be in Benton cemetery in Crawford County.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County; Crawford County Heart Association; or Crawford County Cancer Society.

Russell S. Bibbee
Fostoria Atlas retiree

Russell S. Bibbee, 71, of 20464 SR 12, Fostoria, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 27, 1928, in rural Tiffin to Sherman H. and Lena (Kreais) Bibbee. He married Evelyn Conley, who died in 1976. He married Pearl Smith-Maenle in 1978 at Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Steve Bibbee of Holland, Mich.; four stepsons, Michael Maenle of Auburn, Ind., Kirk Maenle of Angola, Ind., Anthony Maenle of Kentucky and Graig of Clyde; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jeff (Louwanna) Coppler of Haskins; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Perry (Phyllis) Reinhard of Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by: an infant stepson, Robert Maenle; a daughter, Patricia Ball; and two brothers, Carl and Ernest J. Bibbee.

Mr. Bibbee was a former member of Moose Lodge 1567, Fostoria, and the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. Arthur Young officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens near Arcadia.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Hospice, c/o of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316-1169.

Marvin L. Pearce, Sr.
Pearce Insurance president

Marvin L. Pearce Sr., 79, of Sandusky CR 183, Clyde, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Clyde to William and Maudella (Black) Pearce. He married Jean Evans June 23, 1945. She died Jan. 23, 1987. His second wife is Carol Greathouse whom he married April 22, 1989.

Other survivors include: a son, Marvin L. Pearce Jr. of Clyde; two stepsons, Jeffrey Greathouse of Kannapolis, N.C., and Randall Greathouse of Galveston, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Diana) Bilbrey and Mrs. James (Nancy) Greenslade, both of Clyde; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were: two brothers, Kenneth and Howard; and an infant sister.

He graduated in 1937 from Clyde High School and attended the University of Southern California and Bowling Green State University. In 1946 he returned to Clyde from California and took over the family insurance business, which had been established by his father in 1899. He later became president of the Pearce Insurance Agency in Clyde, Fremont and Castalia. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1932 where he was involved with the United Methodist Men's group, was Methodist Man of the Year in 1983, cooked monthly breakfasts for the United Methodist Men, cooked the meals for the annual Mother-Daughter Banquets, member of church building committee when church was built in 1963, former trustee, and member of history and records committee.

He was past president of: National Association of Professional Insurance Agents, Ohio Association of Professional Insurance Agents; was Agent of the Year; member of board of directors of Proliance Insurance Co. and Sandusky County Insurance Agents; held professional designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, Chartered Life Underwriter, Certified Insurance Counselor, Certified Professional Insurance Agent, and taught insurance classes at Bowling Green State University for 13 years.

He was also past president of the Sandusky County YMCA, Chamber of Commerce; past member of Sandusky County AAA; past president and current member of Exchange Club of Clyde; member of Kiwanis Club of Fremont and Clyde Eagles during which time he organized their first Red Cross blood drive in Sandusky County. He was founder and president of Clyde Community Development Corp., which was the group responsible for beginning the industrial development on Elm Street in Clyde; and was a loyal supporter of the Clyde Fliers.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church, Clyde, with the Rev. John Bailey officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Memorials may be made to: First United Methodist Church, Race St., Clyde, OH 43410; or to Marvin L. Pearce Insurance Education Scholarship, 867 James Rd., Columbus, OH 43277. The scholarship was established in 1977.

Maurice M. Gardner
Railroad retiree

Maurice M. Gardner, 73, of 408 Buckingham Drive, Bellevue, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in the emergency room at the Bellevue Hospital.

He was born Nov. 4, 1926, to John and Eva E. (Joy) Gardner. He married Shirley A. Palluch Nov. 26, 1949, in Toledo. She died July 2, 1985.

Survivors include: a son, Michael of Alabama; a daughter, Debra Swain of Bellevue; three grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur and Robert of Bellevue, Verle of Akron and John of Ill; and a special friend, Maysie Rowlett of Lima.

A daughter, Shelley, also preceded him in death.

He was a 1944 graduate of York High School; a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War; was employed by the Nickel Plate Road, Norfolk and Western Railroad and later Norfolk and Southern Railroad for 46 years until his retirement; was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue, Bellevue Moose Lodge 238, Bellevue Eagles Aerie 490, Bellevue VFW Post 1238, Bellevue American Legion Post 46 and an associate member of Club AmerItal.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, with Pastor David Wietelmann officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, with military honors conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post 46 and Bellevue VFW Post 1238.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Genevieve F. Betcher
Tiffin resident's sister

Genevieve F. Betcher, 80, of Waterville and formerly of Walbridge and Grand Rapids, died Friday morning, Sept. 29, 2000, at Arbors at Waterville Nursing Home.

She was born April 4, 1920, in Findlay to Emmett William and Cleo Mae (Baxter) Opp. She married Harlan Leathers, Amherst Clough and Walter Betcher, all who preceded her in death.

She is survived by: three brothers, Charles Opp of Tiffin, Glenn Opp of Rawson and Ercil Eschbach of Sima, Calif.; and a sister, Ruth Deidrick of Grand Rapids.

Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Vernon, Franklin, Sam and Emmett Opp.

She was a licensed practical nurse; a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Chapter 356, O.E.S.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lake Township cemetery, Walbridge, with the Pastor David J. Bringman officiating.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Wright Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Robert P. Weinandy
Retired dairy farmer

Robert P. Weinandy, 88, died at 9:35 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at his home at 394 E. TR 149.

He was born Feb. 17, 1912, in Seneca County, to John and Mary (Kingseed) Weinandy. On Feb. 18, 1939, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Ruth L. Bollinger, who survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Robert E. Weinandy of Tiffin; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary Alice) Saalman of Fremont, Rose A. Bouillon of New Riegel and Mrs. Harold (Eileen L.) Foos of Helena; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were five brothers, Arthur, Leo, Louis, Richard and John; three sisters, Clara Klein, Agnes Burns and Edna Steyer; and a grandson.

Mr. Weinandy, a retired dairy farmer, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The Rev. Omer Rethinger and the Rev. Richard Dunn will be the con-celebrants at the 10 a.m. Monday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 9:45 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.

Carl E. Williams
Retired plant manager

Carl E. Williams, 81, of 370 E. Howard St., Willard, formerly of Sandusky, died at his residence Saturday morning, Sept. 30, 2000, following a long illness.

He was born April 3, 1919, in Bucyrus to Orville and Bessie (Mason) Williams. His wife of 55 years, Lucy (Prentice) Williams, survives.

Survivors also include two daughters, Sandra Backus of Brunswich and Susan Eitle of Willard; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were a brother, Donald Williams, and a niece.

Mr. Williams, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky, retired as a plant manager from the Pioneer Rubber Co., Brunswick Corp. of Attica and Willard.

A U.S. Army Air Force veteran, having served with the 385th Bomb Group during World War II, he attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was the recipient of the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He also was a member of the Attica Masonic Lodge 367 Free and Accepted Masons and Attica American Legion Post 260.

Private graveside services took place in Attica-Venice cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, Cleveland Chapter, 31023 Center Ridge Road, Cleveland, or a charity of the donor's choice.

The Toft Funeral Home and Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is in charge of arrangements.

Norma Jane Gamble
Babysitter/homemaker

Norma Jane (Leedy) Gamble, 40, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at her home at 529 Circular St.

She was born May 29, 1960, in Kimper, Ky., to Elmer and Amy (Williams) Leedy. Her mother survives in Kentucky.

Other survivors include a son, Curtis Aaron Gamble of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four brothers, Arthur Leedy of Martin, Ky., Larry Leedy of Stone, Ky., Bill Leedy of Kimper and David Leedy of Hardy, Ky.; and six sisters, Sarah Rose of Grapevine, Ky., Sally Mundy of Tiffin, Mary L. Farley of Belfry, Ky., Jacqueline Robinson of Pikeville, Ky., Sylvia Varney of Crossville, Tenn., and Shirley Sha'fer of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Her father; two brothers, James and Steven Leedy; and a sister, Elizabeth Leedy, are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Gamble also was employed as a babysitter.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Alice M. Copsey
Clarion Hotel retiree

Alice M. Copsey, 49, of Fulton Street, Monroeville, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at her home, following a long illness.

She was born April 14, 1951, in Louisville, Ky., to Carl and Martha (Moffett) Wise. Her mother, now Martha Summerland, survives in Monroeville.

Survivors also include: three brothers, Robert Wise of Berkley, Ill., Walt Summerland of Norwalk and Jack Summerland of Huron; three sisters, Doris Fowler-Billeter of Sandusky, Joyce Williams of Las Vegas, Nev. and Ruth Newman of Frankfort, Ky.; her special friend, Leeon Case of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews.

Her father; her step-father, Jack Summerland; a son, Anthony Burkhart; and two brothers, James and Charles Wise, are deceased.

Ms. Copsey, a 1969 graduate of Bellevue HIgh School, was employed at The Clarion Hotel in Huron. She retired due to illness.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of Stein Hospice.

Harry G. Aubry
Retired Variety Club distributor

Harry G. Aubry, 95, 670 E. SR 18, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born March 12, 1905, in Toledo, to Joseph and Anna (Lavoy) Aubry. His wife, Alma (Phillippi) Aubry, preceded him in death in 1988.

Survivors include: three daughters, Patricia Swartz, Mrs. Eldon (Nancy) Scheid and Marcia Sherwood, all of Tiffin; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, Douglas Aubry, also is deceased.

Mr. Aubry, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, retired as a distributor from Variety Club Beverages and Kraft Cheese.

He was a past member of Tiffin Elks Lodge 94.

Private graveside services will take place Monday in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Mary Louise Lawrence
Registered medical secretary

Mary Louise Lawrence, 73, of 4487 Sandusky CR 175, Clyde, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in the Bellevue Hospital, following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Shreveport, La., to George D. and Etta (Lee) Kirby. Her husband, Dr. Elbert Lawrence, whom she married May 31, 1967, in California, survives.

Survivors also include: four sons, Dennis of Tahoe City, Calif., Robert of San Francisco, Calif., David of Baltimore, Md., and Kirby of Clyde; two grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Carraway of Texas.

A registered medical secretary, Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the Bellevue Garden Club, Mad River and Nickel Plate Railroad Society, Bellevue Historical Society and Packards International. She was a college graduate.

The Rev. Marvin Rettig will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Bellevue Hospital Foundation.
