Gertrude 'Trudy' Fowler

Gertrude "Trudy" Fowler, 74, of Concrete, Wash., a long-time Tiffin resident, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Wash.
She was born in Louisville, Ky., March 24, 1926, to George and Anna (Norvell) Hammelman. Her parents died when she was a small child and she was placed in the Jr. Order of American Mechanics Fraternity Orphanage at age 8. She resided there until she was 18, at which time she moved to Riverside, Calif. She married
Paul Austin who also lived at the orphanage and he died in the 1970s. She then lived in North Carolina and Ohio and eventually moved to Washington in 1979.
On Aug. 23, 1993, she married
Richard Goulas "Dick" Fowler. They moved to Concrete, Wash., in July 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Dick, of Concrete, Wash.; a son David Austin of Dry Ridge, Ky.; a stepson Jerry McMillan of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a daughter, Donna Dyer of Williamsburg; a stepdaughter Judy Garner of Marysville, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother George of Uniontown; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be at the home of Jerry and Peggy McMillan at 6 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Blaine E. Thomas
Railroad retiree
Blaine E. "Spraz" Thomas, 87, of Eaglewood Care Center, Carey, and formerly of 300 W. North St., Carey, died at 10:05 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2000 in the Care Center.
Mr. Thomas was born Feb. 14, 1913, in Findlay to Werdna and Gladis (Wagner) Thomas. On Nov. 14, 1944, he married
Jean T. Laessle in Fremont and she survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Ronald E. of Mesquite, Nev. and Gary A. of Carey; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
A 1932 graduate of Carey High School, he was a conductor of New York Central, Penn Central and Con-Rail railroads for 35 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the following Masonic bodies: Carey Lodge #420 F. & A.M., Upper Sandusky Council #98 Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, and 32 degree Mason. He was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carey; life member of BPOE #83 Upper Sandusky; bowled in several Carey leagues where he was the first in Carey to bowl a 300 game; served as secretary of Carey Men's Bowling Assocition and Wednesday night golf league.
The Rev. Paul DeMoss will officiate at the 2 p.m. funeral service Thursday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemtery, Carey.
Visiting hours are 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be at 8 p.m. followed by an Elks service at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Eileen M. Walter
H-L school employee
Eileen M. "Mike" Walter, 74, of 938 Loudon Dr., Fostoria, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in St. Catherines Care Center, Fostoria.
Mrs. Walter was born April 20, 1926, in Tiffin to Charles and Frances (Kuntz) Smith. She married
Robert C. "Bob" Walter on Aug. 24, 1946, in St. Mary's Catholic Church and he survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are: a son, Dennis M. of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. William (Cindy) Ashby of Fostoria; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Anna Lucille Frankart of Fostoria, Mary Angela Ruehle of Tiffin and Cecila Haugh of Attica.
Three brothers, Jim, Marion and Eugene, preceded her in death.
She graduated from Calvert High School in 1944; was a homemaker; worked at Fostoria "Autolite;" a teacher's aide at Hopewell-Loudon School; a former matron for the school; and a member of the St. Wendelin Cathaolic Church.
The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. followed by the Mass at10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Wendelin's Catholic Church and burial in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Edythe A. Bigelow
Clyde resident
Edythe A. Bigelow, 76, of E. Thompson Drive, Clyde, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in the St. Francis/St. Clare Unit of Green Springs.
She was born March 4, 1924, in Fremont to Arthur and Helen (Vogt) Jacobs. She married
Dorman "Whitey" G. Bigelow Jan. 24, 1948, and he survives along with the following: three daughters, Mrs. Betty Hackenburg of Bellevue, Mrs. Greg (Kim) Preston of Fremont and Mrs. James (Susan) Milleson of Brunswick; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Vernon (Phyllis) Sommers of Kansas and Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Sidoti of Medina.
Preceding her in death were a granddaughter, Dawn Hackenburg; and two brothers, Jake Jacobs, Sr., and an infant brother.
Mrs. Bigelow attended Clyde schools; was a homemaker; employed at GE in Bellevue and Apex in Sandusky; a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fremont, then later in Clyde; enjoyed bowling; and was active in Camp Fire and Bluebirds.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. David Snyder officiating. Interment will be in the Veterans Section McPherson cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert Edward Webb
Area residents' brother
Robert Edward Webb, 78, of 1434 Tappan St., Findlay, died at 11:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in St. Catherines Care Center of Findlay.
Mr. Webb was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Upper Sandusky to Fred and Cora (Barth) Webb. On May 3, 1947, he married
Edna Huffman in Fremont and she survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, David L. of Napoleon and Jack E. of Canon City, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Doug (Jane) Radabaugh and Mrs. Chip (Judy) Fenton, both of Findlay; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard of Tiffin; and two sisters, Margaret "Marge" Teach of Bloomville and Clara Mae Blott of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Harold, Howard, Homer, James, Gaylord, Paul and Charles.
He was an U.S. Navy veteran and retired as a union construction worker from the Toledo local; attended First Lutheran Church, Findlay; member of Findlay V.F.W.Post #5645, D.A.V. Buddy Chapter #43 and of the Hancock Coon Hunters Club.
Services will be at 11:10 a.m. Thursday in the Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, Findlay, with the Rev. David Koch officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Hancock Veterans Memorial Squad in the Bishop cemetery, Eagle Twp.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Edwin Buckley Collins
Tiffin resident's brother
Edwin Buckley Collins of Portsmouth died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, in Grand Rapids Michigan Spectrum Health East Burn Center after suffering severe burns caused by a furnace explosion in Buckley, Mich. Aug. 19.
Mr. Collins was born in Tiffin Oct. 19, 1935, to Wade and Edna (Beard) Collins. He married
Leola Middletown Feb. 4, 1957, in Gate City, Va. and she survives along with a sister Patsie Collins Krzyzak of Tiffin.
His parents and two brothers, Wade Jr. and James, are deceased.
The body was taken to Cook Funeral Home in Grandville, Mich. where he will be cremated. The remains will be scattered on a mountain in Evarts, Kent.
A pending memorial will be officiated by his nephew, the Rev. Woodrow Fields of Evarts, Kent.
Wilfred A. Schade
Retired millhandler/farmer
Wilfred A. Schadd, 85, of S. Buchanan, Fremont, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Schade was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Helena to William L. and Julia L. (Gabel) Schade. He married
Winifred "Winnie" M. Heilman on Aug. 21, 1943, in St. Joseph Catholic Church and she died April 27, 1995.
Survivors include: a son, David of Bettsville; three daughters, Kathleen Roberts of Tiffin, Elizabeth Schade of Midlothian, Va., and Rita Potts of Helena; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were: a daughter, Mary Ann Nye; a brother, Norman; and a sister, Marcella.
He was employed by Rural Serv as a millhandler for over 20 years until he retired in 1986; also a farmer; and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the officiant being the Fr. James Halleron. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Fremont.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont.

Henry A. "Buddy" Graf
Brother of Tiffin residents
Word has been received of the death of Henry A. "Buddy" Graf, 70, of St. Petersburg, Fla., who died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Tampa General Hospital.
He was born in Chicago, Ill., and moved to St. Petersburg in 1990 from Bryant, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; daughter, Karie Marie Charley and two grandsons, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two stepchildren, John Morice and Christina Upton, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and three sisters, Marjorie Fourtner, Jean Jennings and Mrs. George (Dolores) Blitva, all of Tiffin;
Mr. Graf, a comedian and entertainer, performed locally at the Ritz Theatre in August 1998; and at Bear Creek Farms, Bryant, Ind., and dinner theaters in Toledo. He also performed at Show-Offs, Seminole, Fla.; the former Vaudeville Palace dinner theater in Gateway Mall, St. Petersburg and the Showboat Dinner Theater.
He served in the U.S. Air Force 1949-52.
The service, a "Celebration of Bud's Life" took place Aug. 22.

Ralph W. Jones
Huron Cement Co. retiree
Ralph W. Jones, 76, an Akron area resident for 39 years, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000.
He was born in LaGrange, Ohio.
His wife of 52 years, Mary (Kinney) Jones, formerly of Fostoria, survives.
Mr. Jones, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, retired from the Huron Cement Co. (a division of National Gypsum Co.). He also was employed for many years with the Schermesser Funeral Home in Akron.
Music was an important part of his life and he played piano professionally for many years at many locations in Akron and all of Northeast Ohio.
He also was an avid handball player, motorcyclist and bicyclist.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Schermesser Funeral Home, 1446 S. Main St., Akron, with Dr. Charles F. Billington officiating. Private family interment will be in West Unity, Ohio.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Zila Kitty Dunn
Former Bloomdale School cook
Zila Kitty Dunn, 97, formerly of 8228 Eagleville Road, Bloomdale, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in St. Catherine's Care Center, 25 Christopher Drive, Fostoria, where she resided.
She was born May 28, 1903, in Wood County, to Charles O. and Louisa (Luman) Drake. On Dec. 19, 1934, in Bowling Green, she married
John M. Dunn. He died Sept. 6, 1953.
Survivors include: a son, John M. Dunn Jr. of Fostoria; a daughter, Nancy M. Dunn of Findlay; a brother, Donald Drake of Risingsun; a sister, Elizabeth Snyder of McClure; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, John, Harley and Raleigh Drake; and five sisters, Ruby Kramp, Geneva Yeager, Selma Perkins, Betty Myers and Donnaruth Daniels.
Mrs. Dunn was employed as head cook at Bloomdale Elementary School for 23 years, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of the Eagleville Church of Christ, the Grange and Rebecca Club, all of Bloomdale.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Weaver cemetery, Bloom Township.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy L. Roby

Dorothy L. Roby, 81, 26 Northwood Drive, died at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
She was born Dec. 10, 1918, in Benton, Ohio, to Arthur and Edith (Raudebaugh) Hushour. Her husband, Paul W. Roby, whom she married
Sept. 14, 1940, in the Second Reformed Church, Tiffin, died Nov. 10, 1989.
Surviving are: two sons, William "Bill" and Ronald C. Roby, both of Tiffin; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Ora (Evelyn) Eyer of Sycamore, Mrs. Clarence (Ruth) Dunlap of Bloomville, Mrs. Doyle (Bernice) Dillon and Mrs. Donovan (Shirley) Coppus, both of Fostoria.
Two brothers, Charles and Earl Hushour, are deceased.
Mrs. Roby, a 1936 graduate of Melmore High School, retired after working 25 years at the Seneca County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Office.
An excellent seamstress and avid floral gardener, she was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women and United Workers Sunday School Class. She also taught Sunday school for many years and was active in all church related activities.
The Rev. Scott Hayward will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Saturday service in Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Anna Virginia Sparks
Clyde homemaker
Anna Virginia Sparks, 86, of South Main Street, Clyde, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in St. Francis Nursing Home, Green Springs.
She was born May 22, 1914, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Miles and Julia (Minnex) Sturgell. Her husband, George Sparks, whom she married
in 1931, died in March 1980.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Sparks of Otsego, Mich., and Roger Sparks of Kenton; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Lorene) Marshall and Mrs. Cledys (Alberta) Marshall, both of Clyde; 22 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren; and six sisters and brothers, Mrs. Slim (Lucille) Kitts of Lucasville, Mrs. Glenn (Betty) Moore of Hamdon, Ohio, Mrs. Clayton (Thelma) Jordan of Wellston; Dreamalee Marcus and Bob Sturgell, both of McDermitt, Ohio and Bill Sturgell of Oak Hill, Ohio.
A son, Jack Sparks, died in 1994; and a brother, Tom Sturgell, and two sisters, Maybelle Whitaker and Helen Neeley, also are deceased.
Mrs. Sparks, a homemaker, had resided in the Clyde area since 1980, going there from Wellston.
A member of the Church of God in Wellston, she received her education in the Prestonsburg schools.
The Rev. Porter Richards and Pastor Michael Sparks will be the co-officiants at the 1:30 p.m. Friday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in Ridgewood cemetery, Wellston.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eleazer 'Al' Reesman

Eleazer "Al" Reesman, 70, of 16083 E. Thompson TR 136, Bellevue, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in the Bellevue Hospital, following a long illness.
He was born May 5, 1930, in Punxsutawney, Pa., to David C. and Catherine (Rhapps) Reesman. On Feb. 12, 1955, in Anita, Pa., he married
Marigrace Stolz. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David A. Reesman of Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. William (Catherine M.) Dearsman of Bellevue, Mrs. Ken (Roberta) Sax of Norwalk, Mrs. John (Cynthia) Pifer of Monroeville and Mrs. Jim (Patricia J.) Krause of Republic; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Ann Levy of Punxsutawney and Agnes "Dolly" Hanvey of Tucson, Ariz.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, William Reesman; and a grandson, Joey Gillum.
Mr. Reesman was employed with the Norfolk and Southern Railroad for 33 years, retiring in 1990.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Marywood, Bellevue VFW Post 1238 and the Angels Paratrooper Club of the 11th Airborne.
He also enjoyed woodworking, building model cars, collecting guns and belt buckles and target shooting.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. John M. Nagele as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, where the rosary will be recited at 6:30.

David W. Ritchie Sr., 94, a resident of Autumnwood Care Center, 670 E. SR 18, died there at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000.

Sebastian 'Sam' Russo
Former Fostoria resident
Sebastian "Sam" Russo, 81, of 833 Belaire Drive, Bellevue, formerly of Fostoria, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
He was born July 24, 1919, in Ashtabula, to John and Antoinette (Pomari) Russo. On Feb. 14, 1987, in Bellevue, he married
Wilma Church. She survives in Bellevue.
Survivors also include: two sons, Sam Worrell of Lakewood, Fla., and David Russo of Port Orange, Fla.; two daughters, Antoinette Haskin of Westfield, N.Y., and Debbie Russo of Buffalo, N.Y.; a stepson, David Weaver of Celina; a stepdaughter, Laura Lilburn of Miami, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and three sisters, Josephine Cali of San Jose, Calif., Jennie Parlato of New Hartford, N.Y., and Antoinette Swart of Mechanicsburg, Md.
He also was preceded in death two brothers, John and Joseph; and two sisters, Anna Spann and Lucy Johnston.
Mr. Russo, a U.S. Army veteran, was a graduate of Westfield Academy, Westfield, N.Y.
He was employed for many years on the Nickel Plate Road, New York Central Railroad and Norfolk and Western Railroad, retiring in 1981.
He attended the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Harris Funeral Home, Bellevue, with the Rev. John Nagele officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Franklin Furnace, Ohio, where military honors will be conducted.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
