John H. Long
Resident of Bellevue
John H. Long, 88, formerly of Lake City, Tenn., died Friday, June 2, 2000, in Bellevue, where he resided.
He was born April 15, 1912, to George and Polly Long. His wife, Rosa L. Long, also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, John L. Long of Bellevue and N. Raymond Long of Clinton, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Franklin (Glenna F.) Weaver of Bellevue and Mrs. Bonnell (Shelby J.) Sexton of Lake City, Tenn.; two brothers, Jess Long of Briceville, Tenn. and Fred Long of Pratersville, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
An infant daughter, Dolly May Long; and four sisters, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Long enjoyed playing musical instruments and gardening.
Services are at 2 p.m. today in the Cox-Martin Chapel, Lake City, Tenn., with the Rev. Rodney Buchannon officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery, Lake City.
Visitation took place Monday at the funeral home.
The Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, is in charge of local arrangements.
Robert E. Decker
Peter Eckrich Co. retiree
Robert E. Decker, 77, of 1100 Castalia St., Fremont, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at the home of his daughter at 510 S. Wood St., Fremont.
He was born in Fremont, Jan. 16, 1923, to Karl and Irene (House) Decker. His wife, Ellen (Spitler) Decker, whom he married
Dec. 16, 1946, in Fremont, died in 1997.
Survivors include: a daughter, Louise Bullinger of Fremont; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Betty Robinson of Clyde.
A brother, Thomas Decker, also is deceased.
Mr. Decker, a World War II U.S. veteran, worked as a railroad supervisor in Iran. He was awarded the European Theater Ribbon, African Middle East Ribbon and the good Conduct Medal.
He retired from the Peter Eckrich Co. in Fremont, after 25 years of employment.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, Fremont. Burial will be in Fireside cemetery, Bellevue, where military graveside services will be conducted..
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of the American Heart Association.
Debra K. (Thornsberry) Gault
Nursing home kitchen assistant
Debra K. (Thornsberry) Gault, 38, of 800 Woodward Ave., Fostoria, died at 6:07 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, in the Hospice of Perrysburg.
She was born in Willard, March 5, 1962, to Gordon and Grace E. (Sammons) Thornsberry, who survive in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Billie Jo Thornsberry of Fostoria; a granddaughter; a brother, Bobby Thornsberry of Sebring, Fla.; and two sisters, Laura A. Young of Wharton and Sherry L. Thornsberry of Fostoria.
Mrs. Gault, a member of the Freewill Baptist Church, Tiffin, was employed as a kitchen assistant at the Independence House in Fostoria.
The Rev. Frank Tyree will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Esther Lucille Lust
Home worker
Esther Lucille Lust, 82, of 211 N. Eighth St., Upper Sandusky, died at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born in Wyandot County, Oct. 31, 1917, to Oscar C. and Minnie M. (Gottfried) Berg. On March 9, 1942, in Jacksonville, Fla., she married
Orrin G. Lust, who survives.
Survivors also include: three children, Patricia Diane Lust of Farmville, Va., Robert Orrin Lust of McCutchenville and Connie Jean Koppenhafer of Cincinnati; four grandchildren; a brother, George Berg of Upper Sandusky; and three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Bower and Roberta DeBolt, both of Upper Sandusky and Ruth Crawford of Sycamore.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Berg.
Mrs. Lust, a home worker, was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky and its Naomi Circle and former quilting group.
A former member of the United Church of Christ in McCutchenville, she also was a member of the Judy Club (a local card club) and enjoyed cooking, flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, crocheting, card playing, baking and traveling.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jerry Elsholz officiating. Interment will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.

Kathleen Marie Chambers
Former social worker
Kathleen Marie Chambers, 75, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, at her residence at 1 Linda Lane, following a brief illness.
She was born in Tiffin, Dec. 12, 1924, to Joseph Peter and Corinne Rose (Scheiber) Bork. Her husband, James Chambers, whom she married
Sept. 3, 1955, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, preceded her in death May 24, 1985.
Survivors include: three sons, Dr. Thomas Chambers of Tiffin, Joseph Chambers of Charlottesville, Va. and Richard Chambers of Toledo; four daughters, Ann Chambers of Columbus, Mary Chambers of Indianapolis, Ind., Jane Chambers of Cincinnati and Dr. Kathleen (Mrs. John) Barcia of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. James (Betty) Gillespie of Tiffin; and 13 grandchildren.
Mrs. Chambers, who worked as a social worker for Catholic Social Services in Toledo 1946-55, graduated in 1942 from Calvert High School. She received her bachelor's degree in social work at Marygrove College, Detroit, Mich. in 1946.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, its Women's and Combined Choirs and its Rosary Altar Society. She also was a member of St. Francis Auxiliary, where she served as past co-president and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.
She served on the board of both Mercy Hospital of Tiffin and the Seneca County Health Department; volunteered at St. Francis Home and Habitat For Humanity; was an avid traveler and enjoyed doing things with/for people.
A Memorial Mass in celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the mass Saturday at the church.
The body was donated to the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church Saturday.
The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Boes, 70, of 511 N. Vance St., Carey, died in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay, at 2:55 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2000.
Arrangements are pending at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
Joan Sacksteder Medford
Native of Tiffin
Word has been received of the death of Joan Sacksteder Medford, 79, who died Saturday, June 3, 2000, in Northville, Mich.
She was born June 14, 1920, in Tiffin to Paul and Layola Sacksteder. Her husband Jack Medford, is deceased.
Mrs. Medford was a 1938 graduate of Calvert High School.
A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Elizabeth Shafer Apartment Chapel. All classmates, relatives and friends are invited.
Helen L. Widmer
Rural Tiffin homemaker
Helen L. Widmer, 75, 2065 S. SR 53, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
She was born April 23, 1925, in Tiffin to Melvin R. and Herma (Conrad) Starkey. On June 21, 1947, in St. Joseph Rectory, she married
Bernard A. Widmer. He survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Layton of Mayfield Heights; a brother, Keith Starkey of Bradenton, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Alison Layton.
A homemaker, Mrs. Widmer was a graduate of Melmore High School and attended Tiffin University.
She was a member of Melmore United Methodist Church.
The Rev. William Rose will be the officiant at the 11:30 a.m. Saturday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
June G. Huston
Rural Bellevue homemaker
June G. Huston, 74, of 4020 N. Thompson TR 83, Bellevue, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in the Bellevue Hospital, following a long illness.
She was born June 6, 1926, in Decatur, Ill., to Erney W. and Catherian L. (Smith) Gentry. Her husband, John V. Huston, whom she married
June 25, 1949, in Decatur, died Dec. 8, 1992.
Survivors include: a daughter, Catherine E. Huston of Westerville; a brother, Joseph L. Gentry of Decatur; and three sisters, Maxine C. Brosius of Champaign, Ill., Margaret A. Forker of Decatur and Betty L. Renfro of Parma.
Also preceding her in death were six brothers, Donald, Bernard, Charles, Harold, Ernest and Robert Gentry, and two sisters, Mary Frances Gentry and Venieta Gleeson.
Mrs. Huston, a homemaker, enjoyed yard work in her spare time.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Bellevue, and its Altar Rosary Sodality and the Senior Fellowship of S.A.M. Cluster.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Most Rev. William O'Donnell as celebrant. Burial will be in Bellevue Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church Steeple Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
Raymond F. Bakies
Fostoria Foundry retiree
Raymond F. Bakies, 77, of 5044 S. TR 25, Alvada, died at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center.
He was born in Carey, Nov. 2, 1922, to Grover and Rosa A. (Kin) Bakies. On June 18, 1949, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, he married
Rosemary Schmitz. She died Sept. 22, 1984.
Surviving are: four sons, Raymond J. Bakies of Tiffin, Ronald G. Bakies of Harrogate, Tenn, Roger J. and Rodney J. Bakies, both of Alvada; three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Rebecca A.) Bakies-Davis of Harrisburg, N.C., Mrs. Andy (Rose Ann) Bakies-Turbeville of Charlotte, N.C. and Mrs. Christopher (Roberta J.) Bakies-Stevens of Tallahassee, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, John Bakies of Carey, Grover E. Bakies of Gretna, La., Vincent Bakies of Alexandria, La. and James Bakies of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three sisters, Mrs. Dolores Hoerig of Toledo, Mrs. Richard (Rosemary) Ward and Mrs. James (Anna Mae) Draper, both of Carey.
A sister, Helena Denner; and a brother, Anthony Bakies, are deceased.
Mr. Bakies, a 1941 graduate of Carey High School, retired in 1978 as a sheet metal worker from the former Fostoria Foundry.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Alvada; New Riegel American Legion Post 354, of which he was a life member; the Knights of Columbus and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 34, Tiffin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leonard Kitsler officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, where there will be military graveside rites.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, where a Christian Scripture service will be at 5 p.m.

Wendell W. Wentling
Retired farmer
Wendell W. Wentling, 91, formerly of SR 568, Carey, died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.
He was born Sept. 17, 1908, in Wharton to Clyde M. and Cora Bell (Corbin) Wentling. His wife, Hazel A. (Dible) Wentling, whom he married
Aug. 14, 1938, at Camp Sychar in Mt. Vernon, survives.
Survivors also include: five children, C. Willis Wentling of Perrysburg, Mrs. Wilbur (Melva J.) Taylor of Findlay, Ronald W. Wentling of Napoleon, John M. Wentling of Carey and James Randy Wentling of Anderson, S.C.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The last of his family, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Spacey and Venda Hill.
Mr. Wentling retired from farming in 1970 and then worked at the Budd Co. in Carey, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene, Carey, where he was a Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Missionary Society March 19, 1990.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
The Rev. Buck Traylor and the Rev. Harley Duncan will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Saturday service in Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey and at the church one hour prior to the service Saturday.
