Raymond J. Kastner
Webster Mfg. retiree

Raymond J. Kastner, 92, died at 9:29 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his home at 187 Fourth Ave.

He was born Feb. 11, 1908, in Tiffin to Joseph and Margaret (Zaph) Kastner. His wife of 55 years, Catherine (Ferstler) Kastner, whom he married July 24, 1928, in St. Mary Church, Tiffin, died Nov. 23, 1983. On Feb. 27, 1987, in St. Mary Church, Tiffin, he married Alice C. Kraft, who died Jan. 12, 1989.

Survivors include: four daughters, Mrs. James (Dorothy) Phillips and Mrs. Bernard (Martha) Hohman, both of Tiffin, Mrs. Thomas (Margaret) Dell of Sherman, Texas, and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Stever of Fostoria; two stepsons, Pat Reed and Anthony "Tony" Reed of Parker, Colo.; two brothers, Paul and George Kastner, both of Tiffin; a sister, Mary Jo Gase of Tiffin; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.

A daughter, Ruth Ann; a brother, William Kastner; and two grandchildren, also are deceased.

Mr. Kastner retired in 1974 as foreman of both the punch press and chain departments at Webster Mfg. Co., after 40 years of employment.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, its Holy Name Society, Allen Eiry Senior Center and Eagles 402, of which he was a charter member and member of its drill team.

He was famous for his fish fries, along with his brother, George.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will be at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Calvert High School Foundation, the church or the donor's choice.

Elberta Lucille Field
Seneca County native

Elberta Lucille Field, 88, formerly of 1200 Croy Drive, Findlay, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in Winebrenner Village, Findlay, where she resided.

She was born in Seneca County July 24, 1911, to Clifford R. and Mable O. (Hammond) Weaver. Her husband, Lester Fields, to whom she was married Aug. 5, 1928, in Lima, died Jan. 14, 1983.

Surviving are four children, Phyllis Long of Kansas, Ohio, Morton Field of Elizabethtown, Ky., Kay Wadsworth of Findlay and Arvine Field of Wichita, Kan.; 26 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dalton Weaver of Long Beach, Calif., and Eldon Weaver of McAllen, Texas.

Preceding her in death were a son, Darwin Field, and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Vermillion.

Mrs. Field, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Findlay, was employed as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, in the late 1940s..

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Knollcrest Gardens Chapel, near Arcadia, with Bishop Roger Hendriksen officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens..

There will be no visitation. The Routson Funeral Chapel, Findlay, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy M. Vanderhoff
Retired Kresge clerk

Dorothy M. Vanderhoff, 96, died at 4:08 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Christopher Drive, Fostoria, where she was a resident.

She was born May 2, 1904, in Fostoria, to James and Grace (Harman) Kuhn. Her first husband, Donald Heckathorn, whom she married April 9, 1923, in Fostoria, died Sept. 23, 1968. She married Clarence E. Vanderhoff June 20, 1971. He died Oct. 4, 1996.

Survivors include: two sons, Paul and Charles Heckathorn, both of Fostoria; two daughters, Marilyn Smith of Risingsun and Eula Jenkins of Okay, Okla.; a stepson, James Vanderhoff of Fostoria; a stepdaughter, Sharon Heilman of Fostoria; a half brother, James Kuhn of Fostoria; 18 grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a brother, Forest Kimes; a half brother, Orlo Kuhn; two half sisters, Helen Smith and Goldie Priano; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Vanderhoff retired in 1963 from the S.S. Kresge Store in Fostoria, where she was employed as a clerk. Prior to that she worked at F.W. Woolworth, also of Fostoria.

She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria; Ladies of the Moose, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Senior Citizens and Golden Grandmother's Club.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest cemetery, near Arcadia.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Marjorie L. Gross
Flower/craft store owner

Marjorie L. (Wolford) Gross, 72, of Grafton, died Tuesday evening, May 30, 2000, in the Parkview Care Center, Fremont, following a long illness.

She was born in Macksburg, Ohio, to the late Henry and Carrie Wolford. Her husband, Alfred Gross, died in 1992.

Survivors include: three sons, Allan of Wellington, John of Burgoon and Robert of Elyria; two daughters, Barbara Kehl of Grafton and Mrs. William (Shirley) Messmore of Adoria, Ohio; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Bud Wolford of Las Crusas, N.M., Ed and Paul Wolford, both of Elyria.

A sister, Jean Hass, died in 1997 and a brother, Dick Wolford, also is deceased.

Mrs. Gross, who lived in Grafton since 1946, moving there from Macksburg, owned and operated Marge's Flowers and Crafts in Grafton until her retirement in 1990. She had previously worked as an emergency medical technician for the Village of Grafton for 12 years, until 1989.

A graduate of Kent State University with a degree in primary special education, she was a member of Grafton United Methodist Church, Lagrange Homemakers, the Lorain County Craft Council and the National Campers and Hikers Association for 15 years until 1988.

A Girl Scout leader for 32 years, she enjoyed flower arranging, crafts, camping, sewing and cake decorating.

Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday in the Burgoon United Methodist Church, 3269 Main St., Burgoon.

Further arrangements will be announced by the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville.

William Frederick Coull
Retired General Electric Company employee

William Frederick Coull, 93, of 225 Mohawk St., Tiffin, died at 12:10 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at his residence. He was born on April 10, 1907 to George Custer and Etta (Winland) Coull. On Oct. 22, 1939 he married Ruth L. Looney, and she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, William F. Coull, II of Cincinnati, and Charles W. Coull of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Lynn Allen of Thermopolis, Wy; two brothers, George Gordon Coull of Parkersburg, WV., and Gilbert E. Coul of Lake More, OH.; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: a sister, Anza F. Hammer; and a brother, Robert B. Coull.

Mr. Coull was a graduate of Parkersburg, W.V. High School and West Virginia University, he retired from General Electric Company in Tiffin, he also worked for National Machinery Company. He was a member of the Cottage Avenue Church of Christ, Tiffin.

The Graveside Service will held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2000 in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin.

There will be no visitation scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care, Tiffin and/or Cottage Avenue Church of Christ, Tiffin.

Charles E. Darr
Willard resident

Charles E. Darr, 83, of 298 Portage Path (Holiday Lakes), Willard, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000 after a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 10, 1916 to Charles and Emma (Gallatin) Darr. On Sept. 12, 1936 he married Helen Elizabeth Glover, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Al Darr of Green Springs; two daughters, Bette Gadd of Jerusalem, OH., and Charlene Stevens of Willard; a brother, Kenneth Darr of MI.; two sisters, Leona Beattie of MI., and Lucile Beddow of FL; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Kramer and Herbert Darr; and a sister, Marie Lemunyon.

Mr. Darr was employed at the Ford Motor Company in Sandusky for 25 years, having retired in 1981. A Veteran serving with the U.S. Army during WW II. He attended Steuben Congregational Church and enjoyed fishing and yard work.

The Rev. Melvin R. Knoderer will officiate the 10 a.m., Saturday, funeral service at the Lindsey-Kocher Funeral Home, Willard. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Huron.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Emil C. Siegle Sr.
Retired farmer

Emil C. Siegle, Sr., 95, of 3247 South Twp. Rd. 113, Tiffin, died at 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at Ruffing Care Center, Tiffin. He was born on April 2, 1905 to Hermann and Maria (Frank) Siegle. On June 28, 1930 he married Hedwig Greulich in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Emil Siegle, Jr. of New Riegel; two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Wagner of Tiffin, and Mrs. Christina Kitts of Durham, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: five brothers, Karl, Fred, Robert, Hermann, and Paul Siegle.

Mr. Siegle attended a trade school for blacksmith. He retired from farming in 1992, and was a maintenance repairman for General Motors in Detroit, MI. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The Rev. James K. Say will officiate the 10:30 a.m., Saturday Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m., Saturday, until time of the Mass at St. Joseph Church. The Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m., Saturday.

Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association of Seneca County and/or The American Cancer Society.

Ralph R. "Doc" Phillips
Area resident

Ralph R. "Doc" Phillips, 80, of 309 West Main St., Vanlue, Ohio, died at 8:15 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2000. He was born May 1, 1920 to Alton L. and Olive (Starr) Phillips in Carey. On Sept. 21, 1940 he married Helen M. Sullenberger in Memorial Evangelical Church Parsonage in Carey, she survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Fred Phillips of Vanlue, Terry Phillips of Tiffin, and Rick Phillips of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Cartha Kessler of Findlay; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: a son, David Phillips; a sister, Martha Williams; and four brothers, Frank, Russell, James, and Howard Phillips.

Mr. Phillips had been a livestock buyer for Wards and Heinold Hog Markets working in Fostoria, Columbus Grove and Mt. Blanchard Yards. He had also worked at National Lime and Stone in Carey and for Brooks Trucking in Vanlue, and as a farmer. He and his wife also formerly owned and operated D & H Meat Market in Vanlue for several years. A Veteran serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater for three years during WW II earning the rank of Sergeant, The Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medals. A member of: Christ United Methodist Church, Vanlue; and American Legion Earl Green Post 344, Carey.

The Rev. William Rinehart will officiate the 2 p.m., Monday funeral service at Christ United Methodist Church, Vanlue. Burial will be at Lee cemetery, Vanlue.

Visitation hours are from 2-9 p.m., Sunday, at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Also one hour prior to the services at the Church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church and/or a charity of the donor's choice (c/o the funeral home).

Military Graveside Services will be conducted.

Owen F. Robinett
Bettsville native

Owen F. Robinett, 83, of Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Center, formerly of Bettsville, died at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2000. He was born Oct. 30, 1916 to Austin B. and Florence (Burkett) Robinett. On Jan. 16, 1937 he married Kathyrn J. Mitchell, she died Nov. 15, 1998.

Surviving include: two sons, Roland R. (Ron) Robinett of Tiffin, and Steven B. Robinett of Burgoon; two brothers, Ned Robinett of Fremont, and Larry Robinett of Castalia; a sister, Irene Lehman of Risingsun; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Mr. Robinett was a graduate of Bettsville High School, he retired as a self-employed carpenter, and was a member of the Tiffin Elks.

The Rev. Mike Starkey and The Rev. Don Enteman will officiate the 4 p.m., Sunday funeral service at the Main Auditorium of Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Center.

There is no visitation hours scheduled.

Funeral arrangements being handled by the Engle Funeral Homes.

Memorials may be made to Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Center.

Marjorie L. Gross
Flower/craft store owner

Faye Wylie
Green Springs resident

Faye Wylie, 69, of N. Broadway, Green Springs, died on Thursday, June 1, 2000 at Elmwood Assisted Living Facility. She was born July 4, 1930 to James and Lily Victoria (Witt) Bussell. On Jan. 4, 1952 she married Walter Mason Wylie, he died May 20, 1999.

Survivors include: three sons, Thomas Wylie of Green Springs, Larry Wylie of Fremont, and Gary Wylie of Bellevue; two daughters, Mrs. Vickie Maines of Republic, and Mrs. Cathy Shell, Jr. of Fremont; a sister, Billie Jean Southern of Middleboro, Ky.; a brother, Sherman Bussell; and 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: four brothers, Jerry, Homer, James, and John (Jay) Bussell; and three sisters, Pansy Chumley, Jacqueline Bussell and Ruby Bussell.

Mrs. Wylie was a former member of TOP HATS and TOPS 1225; had sung with June Carter Cash on MidDay Merry Go Round Show in TN., and member of the former Tennessee Five, and she was an avid doll collector. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Clyde.

The Rev. Paul Finney and The Rev. Gerald Moore will officiate the 10 a.m., Monday funeral service at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be at McPherson cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, June 4, 2000 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association: 3178 Republic Blvd. N. Toledo, 43615 and/or First Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund.
