Marcella M. Kerkhoff
Native of Tiffin
Word has been received of the death of Marcella Mae Kerkhoff 78, of 2570 Fleur De Lis Place, Atlanta, GA 30360, who died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000. She was born in Tiffin Nov. 30, 1921.
She is survived by two sons, Alan Kerkhoff of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Steven Kerkhoff of Suwanee, Ga.; three daughters, Diane Hohman of Zolfo Springs, Fla., Cheryl Prokopchak of Atlanta, Ga., and Judy Parker of Suwanee, Ga.; a sister Joan Walters of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were: her husband, Robert F. Kerkhoff; parents, Nicholas H. and Mabel Kuhn, a sister, Mary Sorg; and two brothers, Jack and Nick Kuhn.
The funeral was Feb. 19 at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross, Ga. Interment was in Peachtree Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association, or the American Cancer Society, attn: Breast Cancer Unit.
Lennie G. Hausman
Computer Programmer
Lennie Gene Hausman, 48, of Torrance, Calif., died at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in the Torrance Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 22, 1951, in Fremont.
Surviving are his mother, Betty (Wollam) Stape of Gibsonburg; his father, Willis Hausman of Fremont; a brother Bruce Hausman of Bettsville; a sister Jeanie Flores of Toledo; and his sons Bryan Hausman of Bowling Green and Jason Hausman of Tiffin.
A sister, Suzanne Granata, died in1973.
He was a 1970 graduate of Bettsville High School and a 1978 graduate of Terra Community College.
In 1997, Mr. Hausman formed the company LGH, Inc. as a self-employed computer programmer/analyst. He enjoyed the California sun while bicycling along the coast.
The Rev. Gary Adams will be the officiant at the 4 p.m. Saturday service in the Zion United Church of Christ, Bettsville. The memorial service will be followed by potluck gathering of friends and family also at the Zion UCC.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice programs.
Dennis A. Rutherford
Green Springs school graduate
Dennis A. Rutherford, 52, of 247 Dresden, Cherry Brook Village, Palatine, Ill., died Monday, March 6, 2000, at the Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Heights, Cuyahoga County.
He was born in Fremont Aug. 6, 1947, to Richard S. and Coletta (Huckvale) Rutherford. He resided in Green Springs until about 20 years ago when he moved to Palatine.
He never married
.
Survivors include: his mother of Green Springs; a brother, Paul R. of Gahanna; two sisters, Sally Brionez and Diane Smith, both of Fremont; three nephews; and two nieces.
His father preceded him in death.
He graduated from Green Springs High School in 1965; served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Vietnam Conflict; and was an imaging technical specialist with Sony Electronics of Chicago.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the Rev. James Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Springs cemetery where VFW military graveside services will be conducted.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Green Springs United Methodist Church.
Marvin L. Knowlton
Former Carey policeman
Marvin L. Knowlton, 65, of 1315 E. Bigelow Ave., Findlay, died at 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.
He was born March 4, 1935, in Carey to Kenneth B. and Alice M. (Puchta) Knowlton. On July 17, 1955, he married
Betty L. Eatherton in the Church of God at Wharton. She survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Steve of Carey and Rex of Findlay; a daughter, Mrs. Greg (Michelle) Conley of Wharton; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; a brother, Richard of Findlay; and two sisters, Bonnie Blunk of Arlington and Donna Runion of Carey.
A sister, Carol Lorah, preceded him in death.
He was employed by the Village of Carey as a police officer and worked on the village works department; retired in 1997 from Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. after 30 years; a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Findlay; and had been a volunteer fireman on the Carey Fire Department.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey with the Rev. Tom Schutte officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.
Visitation will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, c/o of the funeral home.
Bertha M. Niedermier
New Washington resident
Bertha M. Niedermier, 86, of French Road, New Washington, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at the Altercare Nursing Home in Bucyrus, following a long illness.
She was born July 10, 1913, in North Auburn to Peter and Helen (Phillips) Smith and had lived in the New Washington area all her life. She was married
to Arthur P. Niedermier for 63 years.
Her husband died Tuesday morning, March 7, 2000. She is survived by six sons, Urban, Richard, Francis, and Stephen, all of New Washington, Louis of Tiro and Leonard of Bucyrus; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Depinet of Bloomville, Mrs. Donald (Anna Marie) Friday of Mt. Gilead, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Heefner of New Washington, and Mrs. Joseph (Alice) Ulicki of Huron; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Carl Vincent Depinet; two brothers, Florian and Clement "Jeff" Smith; and two sisters, Suzanne Kanney and Eleanor Kehres.
She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and baking.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington with the Rev. Robert Dendinger and The Rev. Jerome Niedermier officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bernard Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the Secor Funeral Home, 414 E. Main St., New Washington.
Memorials may be made to the St. Bernard School Endowment Fund, the New Washington E. M. S., or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arthur P. Niedermier
New Washington resident
Arthur P. Niedermier, 89, of French Road, New Washington, died Tuesday morning, March 7, 2000, at Bucyrus Hospital.
He was born Aug. 11, 1910, in New Washington to Anthony and Margaret (Biglin) Niedermier. He married
Bertha Smith, who died Monday, March 6, 2000.

Robert E. Bacon
Native of Tiffin
Robert E. Bacon, 76, of Hartville, died early Sunday, March 4, 2000, in Carl Stokes Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland.
He was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Tiffin to Alvin S. and Alice (Wenner) Bacon.
Survivors include his mother of Tiffin; four sons, Robert II of Sacramento, Calif., James, David and Daniel all of Washington state; a daughter, Donna Jeanne, also of Washington state; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanne Christian of Tiffin.
Preceding him in death was his father.
Mr. Bacon was a Columbian High School graduate; a World War II Navy veteran; retired United Liberty Life Insurance salesman; and a member of the Adoniram Lodge 517 F.&A.M., Akron.
A private memorial service is planned for the family. He is to be buried in East Lawn cemetery in Sacramento.

Cleon H. 'Spin' Poling
Former General Motors employee
Cleon H. "Spin" Poling, 90, formerly of St. Francis Ave., died at 2:25 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2000, in St. Francis Care Centre, Sandusky County, Green Springs, where he had resided since Jan. 27.
He was born Sept. 1, 1909, in Sand Ridge, Calhoun County, W.Va., to Worthington and Eula (Hall) Poling. His first wife, Grace (Hauger) Poling, is deceased. He later married
Priscilla "Pat" Krause, who preceded him in death Oct. 10, 1993.
Survivors include: four step-daughters, Mrs. Donald K. (Marilyn Krause) Davis and Mrs. James (Lois Krause) Eisenhard, both of Tiffin, Mrs. Cory (Sherri Krause) Herborn and Mrs. Jerry (Sandi Krause) Matter, both of Bellevue; two daughters, June Inzani and Davadine Lepore; 16 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lima Harris and Eleanore Garner, both of Indiana.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Worthington II and Ronzel Poling; and two sisters, Beatrice Westall and Glo Campbell.
Mr. Poling, who had resided in Tiffin since 1993, coming here from North Royalton, had been empoloyed at General Motors and as a proprietor of a general store.
He was a member of Albert's Chapel, Sand Ridge United Methodist Church in West Virginia.
Dr. Robert Buckley will be the officiant at the 2:30 p.m. Saturday service in Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Albert's Chapel cemetery, Sand Ridge.
Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday until time of the service at the church.
The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Phillip Valent
Retired truck driver
Phillip Valent, 76, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at his home on CR 212, Fremont.
He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., May 2, 1923, to Philip and Emma H. (Windon) Valent. On June 2, 1945, in Reading, England, he married
D. June Cleland, who survives in Fremont.
Other survivors include: a son, William E. Valent of Kansas, Ohio; six daughters, Susan J. Bolen of Bradner, Carol A. Slemmer and Lynne K. Stevens, both of Fremont, Sharon L. Taylor of Bradenton, Fla., Dottie J. Meek of Ruskin, Fla. and Kathy E. Brunnet of Weston; two sisters, Lucille Bolle of Bridgeport, W.Va. and Maxine Ice of Hepzibah, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Tressie Hurst and Mable Thomson, also are deceased.
Mr. Valent, a truck driver for 27 years, retired in April 1982 from Signal Delivery Service, where he had been employed for 13 years. He also worked at Herbrand.
A World War II U.S. Air Force veteran, having served a European Tour in England, was a member of the Overseas Irish Club of Toledo, Lazy Aces Saddle Club, Fremont American Legion, Teamster Retirees Local 20, Clyde Eagles, Old Codgers Breakfast Club at the Fremont Burger King and the Clude VFW, where he was a life member.
An avid bowler, he bowled in several leagues a week.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont, with the Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Clarksburg, W.Va., at a later date.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
Robert J. Mehling
Tiffin resident's father
Robert J. Mehling, 62, of 2104 Buckland Ave., Fremont, died Wednesday morning, March 8, 2000, in the Emergency Room of Memorial Hospital, Fremont.
He was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Fremont, to the late Robert J. and Lou (Mangette) Mehling. His wife, Shirley (Ohns) Ochs Mehling, whom he married
Jan. 19, 1979, survives in Fremont.
Other survivors include: four sons, Douglas and Eric Mehling, both of Fremont, Ryan Mehling of Cleveland and Matthew Mehling of Tiffin; a step-son, Anthony Ochs of Fremont; two step-daughters, Laura Bergerfurd of Denver, Col. and Erica Ochs of Fremont; a sister, Virginia Skiddle of Allison Park, Pa.; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Mark Mehling.
Mr. Mehling, a member of St. Joseph Catholic, Fremont, retired this year from Brush-Wellman as a maintenance foreman.
He also was a member of the Eagles, Moose and Toledo Rock and Gym Club.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, Fremont, where a wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the School of Hope or a charity of the donor's choice.
Edward Leo Warnement
National Machinery employee
Edward Leo Warnement, 58, of 303 Greenfield St., died at 6:47 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the Arthur James Cancer Center in Columbus.
Mr. Warnement was born March 26, 1941, in Tiffin to Paul R. and Marian F. (Sexton) Warnement. In 1966 he married
Ladora Smith. They divorced and she lives in Bonita Springs, Fla.
Other survivors include: his father of Tiffin; a son, Todd, of Boulder, Colo.; two brothers, Thomas and Richard, both of Tiffin; numerous nieces and nephews.
His mother preceded him in death.
He was a 1959 graduate of Calvert High School; formerly served in the National Guard; worked in the maintenance department at National Machinery Company since 1959; a member of the AMVETS, Elks, Eagles and Moose Lodges and the Quarter Century Club at National Machinery.
The Rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with the funeral mass following at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Steinle will officiate with burial in the St. Joseph cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home where a Parish Wake Service will be at 8:45 p.m. The Quarter Century Club will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Sunday.
