Eugene Stockmeister
Attica farmer
Eugene Stockmeister, 56, of N. Seneca Street, Attica, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Stockmeister was born Oct. 2, 1943, in Tiffin to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard (Irene Bumb) Stockmeister. He married
Catherine Erswell on October 17, 1969, in Reed.
Surviving are his wife of Attica; his parents of Attica; two daughters, Beth Houghtby of Natchitoches, La. and Denise Frederitz of Attica; a brother, Kenneth of Attica; two sisters, Sharon Ruffing of Bellevue and Arlene Sherman of Attica; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy.
He was employed at the Seneca County Highway Department for the last 19 years and also worked as a school bus driver for Seneca East Schools as well as a truck driver for Firelands Transport; a farmer for many years; a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Reed, the Tiffin Eagles Aerie No. 402, and the Attica Knights of Columbus; was an avid Ohio State fan and enjoyed sprint car races and visiting the Amish Country.
Prayers will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, Reed, with the Fr. John Nagle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, Attica.
Memorials may be directed to the Attica Junior Fair Board or the American Cancer Society.
Frances "Ruth" Fike
Former Attica resident
Frances "Ruth" Fike, 96, of 9 Summit St., Danvers, Mass. and a former resident of Attica, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Masconomet Health Center, Topsfield, Mass.
She was born Nov. 3, 1903, in Newark to George A. and Ina (Ingman) Krebs.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Sandra) Burris of Alliance and Linda Petelle, Danvers, Mass.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Elnora Price of Newark.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clayton L. Fike; and a brother, Alfred Krebs.
Mrs. Fike was a 1921 graduate of Newark High School; a 1925 graduate of Dennison University; retired teacher for Willard Schools in 1965 after 20 years of service; a member of the Attica First United Methodist Church, OES, Attica Senior Citizens, Ohio Education Association, Willard Hospital Board for seven years, Eastern Star and Literary Guild.
Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday with services at 1 p.m. at the Attica United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dean Lewis and Thomas Kalb officiating. Burial will be in Brokensword cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Willard Mercy Hospital, 110 E. Howard St., Willard, Ohio.

Helen S. Myers
Retired homemaker
Helen S. Myers, 98, formerly of Fox Avenue, Clyde, a resident of Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
She was born July 3, 1901, in Lovell, to Marion and Nellor (Sowers) Houser. On April 17, 1926, she married
E.S. "Binks" Myers, who preceded her in death July 16, 1980.
Several sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews survive.
Also preceding her in death were a sister, Gretchen Creeger, and a brother, Clarence Houser.
Mrs. Myers, a homemaker, was a member of the Presbyterian church. She moved from Clyde to Upper Sandusky in 1986.
The Rev. Stephanie MacLemore will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Monday graveside service in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
There will be no visitation.
The Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, is in charge of arrangements.
W. Bernell Van Meter
Homemaker/G.E. retiree
W. Bernell "Billie" Van Meter, 86, 325 Ohio Ave., died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2000, in the Ruffing Family Care Center of Tiffin, where she had been a patient for about two weeks.
She was born in Bellevue, March 14, 1913, to Alexis Kellogg and Alma (Debo) Smith. Her husband, Ralph "Rip" Van Meter, whom she married
May 23, 1935, in Bellevue, died Oct. 30, 1998.
Survivors include: a son, Dr. James Van Meter of Rochester, N.Y.; a granddaughter and two great-grandsons.
Two sisters, Irene Kennersley and Donna Moyer, also preceded her in death.
A homemaker and General Electric retiree, Mrs. Van Meter was a graduate of Bellevue High School. She and her husband spent many summers with family and friends at Gem Beach.
A friend, Marvin "Bud" Helkey, helped Mrs. Van Meter and her husband for many years.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Buckley officiating. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday until time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Phyllis A. Clouse
Bascom homemaker
Phyllis A. Clouse, 70, died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000, at her home at 5941 SR 18, W. Tiffin St., Bascom.
She was born in Kansas, Ohio, March 6, 1929, to the late Dee A. and Julia (McDole) Lanning. On April 19, 1952, in St. Mary's Church, she married
Andrew "Bud" Clouse, who survives in Bascom.
Other survivors include: four sons, Clint and Robert Clouse, both of rural Tiffin, John Clouse of Fostoria and Andrew Clouse of Findlay; a daughter, Claudia Chapman of Bascom; a sister, Margaret Snyder of Kansas, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.
Three brothers and a sister also are deceased.
Mrs. Clouse, a 1947 Jackson Liberty High School graduate, was a homemaker.
A member of the Mother's Club of Tiffin, she also had worked at Gray Printing Co. in Fostoria and managed Clouse's Bar for 15 years.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sandridge cemetery, Bascom, with the Rev. Paul Eichar officiating.
There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Seneca County or the Phyllis Clouse Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the Old Fort Bank.
Wilfred A. 'Red' Frisch
Former Whirlpool employee
Wilfred A. "Red" Frisch, 82, 618 Lawndale Drive, Fremont, died at 6:16 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2000, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.
He was born in New Riegel, Jan. 25, 1918, to Martin L. and Bridget J. (Reinhart) Frisch. His wife, Mary J. (Coburn) Frisch, whom he married
June 3, 1939, in Tiffin, survives in Fremont.
Survivors also include: two brothers, Carl P. Frisch of Kansas, Ohio, and Philip J. Frisch of Fostoria; and two sisters, Marie H. Gaietto of Tiffin and Millie R. Fosnaugh of Fostoria.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Elmer, Alvin, Vincent and Herman Frisch.
Mr. Frisch, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, retired in 1983 from Whirlpool Corp. in Clyde, after 20 years of employment. He previously worked as a polisher at Herbrandt, also of Fremont.
A member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fremont, and its Holy Name Society, he attended St. Wendelin Schools in Fostoria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 1 p.m.. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Magdeline E. Hoffbauer
Rural Alvada homemaker
Mary Magdeline E. Hoffbauer, 88, of 12195 W. CR 10, Alvada, died at 9:29 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
She was born in Frenchtown April 13, 1911, to Peter and Sarah (Simonis) Haubert. On Nov. 29, 1934, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown, she married
Virgil Hoffbauer. He survives in Alvada.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Judy) Hall of Alvada, two grandsons; and a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Gervase) Rumschlag of Tiffin.
Preceding her in death were six brothers, Harold, Hilarian "Happy," Eugene, Paul, Raphael and Fred Haubert; and two sisters, Gertrude Wonderly and Beatrice Cornely.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hoffbauer was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Alvada, its Rosary Altar Society and Ministry of Prayer group.
She also was a member of the Little Flower of Jesus, St. Jude, Women of the Moose 253, New Riegel, of which she was a 50-year member; and a perpetual member of the Propagation of Faith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leonard Kistler C.PP.S., officiating. The rosary will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where Moose memorial services will be at 3 p.m. and a Prayer service will be at 8:45 p.m.

Major Robert W. Mutchler
Former Burgoon resident
Word has been received of the death of Major Robert W. Mutchler, 57, formerly of Burgoon, who died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000.
He was born Aug. 27, 1942, to the late Freddie W. and Bernice (Joseph) Mutchler. He had never married
.
Survivors include: a sister, Susan Rutherford of Fremont; two brothers, Steven Mutchler of Wakeman and Michael Mutchler of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Charles Mutchler, also is deceased.
Maj. Mutchler, a 1960 graduate of Jackson-Burgoon High School, a 1964 graduate of Bowling Green State University, completed officers Candidate School in 1965, and was commissioned a second lieutenant.
He served tours of duty in Vietnam, Korea, Philippines, Iran and at Fort Hayes in Columbus, and retired as a major from White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, in 1986, after 22 years of active duty.
Services were March 2 in the Restlawn Funeral Home, El Paso, Texas, with burial following in Restlawn Memorial Park.

Delbert Clayton Warner
Sterling Abrasives retiree
Delbert Clayton Warner, 74, died at 7 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2000, at his residence at 80 Lafayette St., McCutchenville.
He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Henry County, to R.B. and Pearl (Crozier) Warner. His wife, Gayle Louise (Feagles) Warner, whom he married
Sept. 26, 1947, in Tiffin, survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, David Warner of Carey and Edward Warner of Groveland, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. David (Terry) Granata of Sycamore; a stepson, Jeffrey Allen of Groveland; six grandchildren; and a sister, Beatrice Hilton of Tiffin.
Four sisters, Varna Webb, Lois Harris, Neva Gibbs and Musa Bish; and three brothers, Lowell, Newell and Vern Warner, also are deceased.
Mr. Warner, a member of the Protestant faith, worked at National Machinery Co. for 12 years and retired in 1990 from Sterling Abrasives.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years, the first four in the South Pacific and last six years at Moffett Field, Sunnyvale, Calif.
His hobbies included fishing, woodworking and watching old Gene Autry movies.
Services and visitation will be private. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, McCutchenville.

James Long
Former Tiffin resident
Word has been received of the death of James Long, 65, of Fort Wayne, Ind., who died Friday, March 3, 2000,.
He was born in McKeesport, Pa.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; two sons, Keith of Union, Ohio, and Greg of Cincinnati.
Formerly of Spayth Street in Tiffin, Mr. Long opened and managed the Murphy Mart in Tiffin.
He was a member of the Seneca County Gideons and the Christian Missionary Alliance Bible Study Church, Tiffin.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Assembly of God Church, Fort Wayne.
Winona Maxine Overholt
Retired bank cashier
Winona Maxine Overholt, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center.
She was born Sept. 26, 1911, in Nevada, Ohio, to Virgil and Blanche (Powers) Keller. On Nov. 14, 1941, she married
James W. Overholt, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Overholt of Tiffin and Thomas Overholt of Stevens Point, Wis.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Mock and Juanita Heidermann.
Mrs. Overholt, a 1929 graduate of Nevada High School, attended Tiffin Business University.
From 1930-40 she worked for the Ohio Power Co. in Upper Sandusky and in 1953 started working at the Bucyrus City Bank (now United Bank), retiring as an assistant cashier in 1977.
She was an active member of the First Christ Scientist Church, where she served as reader for many years and also was a member of the Crocus Club
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Wise Funeral Home, Bucyrus, with the Rev. Robert Taylor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
