Vernon W. Sweigard
Farming partner
Vernon W. Sweigard, 83, of 5147 CH 30, Sycamore, died at 6:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
He was born July 23, 1916, in Wyandot County, to Robert E. and Abigail (Brown) Sweigard. His wife, Marie (Case) Sweigard, whom he married
Feb. 5, 1942, survives.
Survivors also include: a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Susan) Thorton of Mukwonago, Wisc.; two grandchildren; and a brother, Charles B. Sweigard of Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Sweigard, a 1934 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, was a partner with his wife in farming for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be at a later date. The Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, is in charge of arrangements.

Willis D. Rhoda
Former National supervisor
Willis D. Rhoda, 91, was found dead at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at his home at 60 N. SR 101, Lot 81, Clinton Mobile Home Park, where he had resided for more than 10 years.
He was born in Clyde, Oct. 28, 1908, to William and Verna (Keller) Rhoda. On Jan. 18, 1936, in Clyde, he married
Ruth A. Whitcomb, who preceded him in death June 23, 1990.
A sister, Corrine Lorimer, died in 1999, and a half-brother, Henry Keller, also is deceased.
Mr. Rhoda, formerly of 96 Hillcrest Drive, had been employed as a supervisor at National Machinery.
A 1927 graduate of Clyde High School, he was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Daughters of America and National Home Council 44.
Graveside services are pending in Oakwood cemetery, Fremont, with the Rev. Margaret M. Marks officiating.
There will be no visitation.

Willis D. Rhoda

Memorial services for Willis D. Rhoda, 91, who was found dead at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at his home at 60 N. SR 101, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Oakwood cemetery, Fremont. The Rev. Mary Ann Emline
Tiffin native
Word has been received of the death of Mary Ann Emline, 79, of Valrico, Fla., who died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Brandon Regional Hospital.
She was born in Tiffin to the late Joseph and Assunta Durso. Her husband, Earcile, is deceased.
Survivors include: a daughter, Margaret Nowakowski of Waynesville, N.C.; a son, Rick of Williston, Fla.; a sister, Angela Steffanelli; and three brothers, Michael Durso of Tiffin and Anthony and Frank Durso, both of Sandusky; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren of the Florida area.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Suzanne.
Mrs. Emline and her husband moved to Florida from Holland, Ohio, in 1972.
A homemaker, she was an active member of Nativity Catholic Church.
A Mass of Resurrection was Saturday in the Church of the Nativity. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday in Calvary cemetery, Toledo.
The Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon, is in charge of arrangements.
Catherine J. Kitchen
Music store co-owner/operator
Catherine J. Kitchen, 90, died Saturday morning, Feb. 19, 2000, at her home of 59 years on Corey Street in Fostoria.
She was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Rudolph, to John and Catherine (Kleman) Eishen. On Aug. 21, 1934, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cygnet, she married
Kenneth Kitchen, who preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1960.
Survivors include: four sons, David K. and Louis F. Kitchen, both of Fostoria, Dennis E. Kitchen of Troy, Mich. and James A. Kitchen of Columbus; three daughters, Mary C. Ellison of Orange, Calif., Rose A. Vogt of Bonita, Calif. and Angela M. Rentz of Findlay; 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Charles, John, Franklin and Clarence Eishen; and two sisters, Elsie Kale and Maggie Eishen.
Mrs. Kitchen, a retired school teacher, first taught in Edgerton in a one room school house 1929-34. After her husband's death she resumed teaching at St. Wendelin Elementary School's fourth grade 1961-74.
She earned her teaching certificate in education from Bowling Green State University.
She also was the co-owner and operator, with her husband, of Kitchens House of Music in Fostoria for many years, where Hawaiian Steel Guitar instructions were provided.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria and its Rosary Altar Society; the Daughters of Isabella and the 55 + Club, where she had served as president
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10 a.m.. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin's School Educational Foundation.
Todd A. Cole
Carpenter
Todd A. Cole, 38, of 2473 Wakefield Creek Road, Greene Township, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Greene Township, following a single-car accident.
He was born Dec. 5, 1963, in Warren, to Allen J. and Bonnie J. (Reeves) Cole. They both survive in Greene Township. His wife, Shelly A. (Persinger) Cole, whom he married
Aug. 23, 1981, survives in Green Township.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Melea A. and Ashley J. Cole and a son, Justin A. Cole, all of Greene Township; two brothers, Eric S. Cole of Norton and Jason S. Cole of Cortland; his grandfather, George T. Reeves and his grandmother, Mildred L. Cole, both of Cortland.
His maternal grandmother, Mildred L. Reeves and paternal grandfather, Isaac D. Cole, also are deceased.
Mr. Cole, a lifetime Greene Township area resident, was employed as a carpenter with his father and brother in the Cole Construction Co.
He attended Maplewood School, graduated from the American Correspondence School and frp, TDDS in Lake Milton, where he received a diploma in diesel mechanics.
A member of the Green Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, in 1994, Mr. Cole was a kidney donor for his daughter, Melea.
He enjoyed and owned several motorcycles and Volkswagens and collecting and raising tropical fish. He also had an extensive aquarium room.
A memorial service will be at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kingdom Hall, 7995 Dennison-Ashtabula Road, Greene Township, where friends will be received by the family 5 p.m. until time of the service. Tim Smith, minister of a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Florida, will officiate.

Virgil Jay Berlekamp
Retired farmer/building contractor
Virgil Jay Berlekamp, 99, a prominent Old Fort area resident, died at 9:32 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the Bethesda Care Center, Sandusky County, Fremont, where he had resided since 1996.
He was born Feb. 17, 1901, to Frederick William and Emma Zeola (Wagner) Berlekamp, on the family farm in Pleasant Township, Old Fort, where he had lived most of his life before entering the nursing home. On Oct. 12, 1924, in Burgoon,1 with the bride's father, the Rev. T.C. Biddle officiating, he married
Mabel Esther Biddle, who died Nov. 13, 1993.
Survivors include: a son, Ray C. Berlekamp of rural Green Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Lois) Murray of rural Fremont; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Hugh C. Berlekamp; and a sister, Alelia Flack, also are deceased.
Mr. Berlekamp joined his father on the family farm and later became both a self-employed building and drainage contractor until his retirement.
He completed his education at the Old Fort School in 1919, being the oldest graduate at the time of his death.
He was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees for 50 years and as the building chairman for the 1957 addition. He also was active in the Volunteer Sunday School Class
He served on the board of directors of the Old Fort Banking Company for 50 years and the Old Fort Board of Education for 17 years. He also was a charter member of the Old Fort Lions Club, where he served on many committees for community betterment. He served for many years on the board of directors for the former People's Mercantile and Elevator Company, the former Old Fort Mutual Telephone Company and was a member and served as state president of the Ohio Drainage Contractor's Association. .
The Rev. Jerry K. Wiles will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Old Fort United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home, Green Springs, where Old Fort Lions Club services will be at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church or Bethesda Care Center.
Dorotha E. (Hufford) Gooding
Former G.E. employee
Dorotha E. (Hufford) Gooding, 86, 57 Hopewell Ave., died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born in Seneca County, Oct. 5, 1913, to William M. and Anna E. (Sours) Biller. On Sept. 3, 1931, she first married
Joseph S. Hufford, who preceded her in death June 3, 1963. She later married
Manford H. Gooding, March 11, 1973. He died Sept. 30, 1995.
Surviving are: five daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Marilyn) Baughman of rural Nevada, Mrs. Donald (Betty Jo) Hannum of Bloomville, Mrs. Robert (Judith) Ward-Moran of Perrysburg, Mrs. Cloyce (Virginia) Gilliland of rural McCutchenville and Mrs. Fred (Vicki) Altvater of rural Bluffton; a son, Donald M. Hufford of Sycamore; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Leola Justice of Tiffin; a brother, Richard W. Biller of Fostoria; and many nieces and nephews.
A son, Fredric Hufford; and a great-granddaughter, also are deceased.
Mrs. Gooding, a 1931 graduate of Sycamore High School, worked at the General Electric, J.C. Penneys and Sears, all of Tiffin.
A member of the Community Christian Center, Upper Sandusky, she enjoyed sewing and working outdoors.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Bill Williamson officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, Sycamore.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Cancer Society, Seneca County Heart Fund, Community Hospice Care, Tiffin or the church.
Eva Marie Predmore
Former restaurant owner
Eva Marie Predmore, 71, of 409 High St., Carey, died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.
She was born in Wharton, April 15, 1928, to Allen A. and Fairy (Howard) Baker. Her first husband, Russell P. Chester, is deceased. She later married
Ronald M. Roynon and they were divorced. On Jan. 30, 1954, in Angola, Ind., she married
Donald N. Predmore, who survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Russell P. Chester of Mt. Blanchard and Casey Roynon of Carey; three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Cheryl) Hayward of Curtice, Mrs. Larry (Vickie) Myers and and Mrs. Jim (Jackie) Ritter, both of Carey; a step-son, Mark Turner of Rowlette, Texas; a step-daughter, Ms. Darla Turner of Springfield, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, Wayne and Frank Baker, both of Wharton, Chuck Baker of Mira Loma, Calif. and David Baker of Andrew, Texas; four sisters, Kathryn Chester of Sycamore, Gail McKelvey of Fostoria and Judy Wood and Jane Ogg, both of Carey.
Two brothers, John and Frederick Baker, also are deceased.
Mrs. Predmore, the former owner of My Place Restaurant in Carey, was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carey.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul E. DeMoss and Vicar Patty Heath officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Woodrow W. Engle Jr., 52, of Middleport, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, as a result of a drowning accident.
He was born in Rutland, Ohio to Julia (Clouse) Engle who survives in Middleport and the late Woodrow W. Engle Sr. His wife, Deborah (Rathburn) Engle, also survives in Middleport.
Other survivors include: two sons, Woodrow "Pete" II and Shane Engle, both of Middleport; two daughters, Lori and Sarah Engle, both of Middleport; five grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Nelson of South Point, Charles Nelson of Florida and Jack Nelson of Proctorville; three sisters, Mrs. Kermit (Dorothy) Taylor of Chesapeake, Ohio, Mrs. Darrell (Peggy) Krautter of Pomeroy and Mrs. Gary (Marilyn) Cooper of Portland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother Fred Engle, also is deceased.
Mr. Engle, with his wife, operated the J & D Flea Market in Middleport.
Also a former coal miner and a self-employed logger and farmer, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.
He was a member of Feeney Bennett American Legion Post 128.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport, with the Rev. William Justis officiating. Burial will follow in Meigs Memory Gardens, Pomeroy, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Feeney Bennett American Legion Post 128.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Eulalia M. 'Ukey' Kightlinger

Eulalia M. "Ukey" Kightlinger, 94, formerly of 51 Sycamore St., died at 4:35 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
She was born May 15, 1905, in Tiffin, to Henry P. and Anna (Poiry) Mareches.
A sister, Mary A. Hemminger of Tiffin; and several nieces and nephews survive.
Two brothers, William R. and Albert H. Mareches, also are deceased.
A 1923 Ursuline Convent graduate, she retired in 1970 as a bookkeeper from Mercy Hospital and from the Gurney Ford Co.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Poor Souls Society.
The Rev. James Say will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Thursday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
