Edna Rogers
Clyde homemaker
Edna Rogers, 97, of Race Street, Clyde, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in the Bellevue Care Center, Bellevue.
She was born in Seneca County, Feb. 15, 1902, to Clarence and Cora (Billman) Kistler. On June 16, 1920, she married
John E. Rogers. He died July 4, 1971.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Annabelle) Tea of Clyde; two sons, Ray Rogers of Port Clinton and Robert Rogers of Orwell; 24 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Lester and Carl Rogers; a daughter, Margaret Rogers; a grandson and a sister, Florence Kistler Hildebrandt, are deceased.
Mrs. Rogers, a homemaker, received her education in the Seneca County schools.
A lifetime Clyde area resident, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde, and its church groups; the Clyde American Legion Auxiliary, Welcome Farm Women's Club and the Navy Mothers Club during World War II.
The Rev. Steve Wood will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Thursday service in St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Charles A. Hammer
Retired farmer
Charles A. Hammer, 98, of CR 50, Helena, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in the Gibsonburg Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for the past five years.
He was born Feb. 2, 1901, in Bettsville, to George and Minnie (Styer) Hammer. On April 12, 1932, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, he married
Mary Kimmet, who died in October 1985.
Survivors include: two sons, Charles Richard of Burgoon and Thomas of Lucas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Hammer of Gibsonburg; and two sisters, Ida Gabel of Fremont and Cecelia Hoffman of Helena.
A grandson; four brothers, Louis, George, Macey and Dave; and four sisters, Loretta Hammer, Clara Ferrenberg, Mary McClure and Rose Magrum, are deceased.
Mr. Hammer, a farmer, was a member of the Farm Bureau Organization and St. Michael Catholic Church, Gibsonburg.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Lawrence cemetery, Gibsonburg.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Nopper-Veh Funeral Home, 319 W. Madison St., Gibsonburg, where a Catholic wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary E. Sarka Klausing
Mother of Tiffin resident
Mary E. Sarka Klausing, 79, of Lima died at 3:33 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Salem Township, Auglaize County, to Frank M. and Vira E. (Reed) Graessle. On June 3, 1939, she married
Albert Emmett Sarka. He died July 18, 1969. On April 27, 1973, she married
Arnold J. Klausing. He died May 26, 1996.
Surviving are three sons, Larry D. and Kenneth D. Sarka, both of Tiffin and William A. Klausing of rural Columbus Grove; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, D. Edwin and Don Graessle, both of Spencerville; three sisters, Mrs Maurice (Waneta) Hager and Mrs. John (Caroleen) Moorman, both of Spencerville and Mrs. Jack (Emaline) Core of Kossuth; and a brother-in-law.
Four sisters, Pauline and Gail Graessle, Louise Gould and Susan Leffel, also are deceased.
Mrs. Klausing, a graduate of Spencerville High School, retired in 1973 from the shipping and receiving department of the Sears and Roebuck Co. in Lima.
She was a member of the Kossuth-Zion United Methodist Church, Kossuth.
Services are at 1 p.m. today in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, with the Rev. Raymond S. Daniel Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Kossuth cemetery.
Visitation will be noon until time of the service today at the funeral home. Visitation also was Wednesday

Memorial services for Jeffrey S. Walters, 55, who died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at his home at 8811 Coast Highway 162, Laguna Beach, Calif., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion United Church of Christ, Bettsville, with the Rev. Gary Adams officiating. The Turner Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mildred E. Hollenbaugh-Smothers

Mildred E. Hollenbaugh-Smothers, 101, of 725 Columbus Ave, formerly of 504 Glenview Drive, Fostoria, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 22, 1898, in Fostoria to Arthur and Bertha (Miller) Hollenbaugh. On Aug. 11, 1923 she married
Floyd C. Smothers in Fostoria. He died Oct. 4, 1973.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Mathias of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Mrs. Suzanne Hopkins of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Mary Miller of Bowling Green; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Ray and Arthur Byron Hollenbaugh, and four sisters, Lois Morgenstern, Fern Good, Bessie Kesler and Gertrude Boyd, are deceased.
Mrs. Hollenbaugh-Smothers retired from teaching in 1957 after teaching in Seneca County schools, Fostoria City schools, West Millgrove and Risingsun. She graduated from Fostoria High School in 1917 and attended the Ohio State and Bowling Green State universities. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Westminster Circle of Kings Daughters, Ohio Forestry Association, Fostoria Women's Club, Fostoria Ladies Garden Club, and was a former member of Fostoria Beautification Committee. She helped organize the first Child Conservation League in Fostoria in 1930, and the Fostoria Ladies Garden Club in 1971. She was awarded with an honorary citation for outstanding work in horticulture from the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs in 1980. She planted 24 trees at Longfellow School in Fostoria during the 1970s.
The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will officiate the funeral at Fountain cemetery at a later date. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery.

Ivalene (Wyss) DeBolt
Former Sycamore resident
Ivalene (Wyss) DeBolt, 75 of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of the Sycamore area, died at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 19, 1999, at her home. She was born March 13, 1925, to Harry and Marcella (Parsell) Wyss. She married
George DeBolt. He died in 1990.
Survivors include: a son, George DeBolt of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Susan Malye of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Gene Wyss of Sycamore; two sisters, Mrs. Joanne Justice and Mrs. Irene Hart, both of Upper Sandusky; and three granddaughters.
A sister, Mrs. Judy Reed, died in 1991.
Mrs. DeBolt was a 1942 graduate of Sycamore High School.
A memorial service was Jan. 22 in the Hope Hospice Chapel in Fort Myers, Fla. The body was cremated.

Myrtle I. Beard

Myrtle I. Beard, 75, of Hamer St., Clyde, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 23, 1925, to Everett and Effie (Young) Booze. On Dec. 3, 1949, she married
Charles L. Beard, Sr. He died Jan. 12, 1989.
Survivors include: a son, Charles L. Beard Jr. of Clyde; a brother, LeRoy Booze of Vickery; and five grandchildren.
Six brothers, Ralph, Raymond, Clyde, Marion, Kenneth and Clarence Booze; four sisters, Edna Nason, Edith Cox, Irma Heaton, Grace Booze; and two infant siblings, are deceased.
Mrs. Beard was a graduate of Fremont Schools, was a homemaker and a cook at various restaurants and for a number of organizations. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Clyde, where she was a deaconess; Samaritan circle at the church; OES 73 of Clyde; Eagles Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, both of Clyde; Daughters of America, Jr OES, for which she had held many local and district offices.
The Rev. Alex McLean will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday service at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 tonight at the funeral home with Eagles services at 6:45 and Eastern Star services at 7.
Memorials may be made to Masonic Temple Board, West Buckeye Street, Clyde.
Carol Sue Canode

Carol Sue Canode, 38, of 8519 TR 96, New Riegel, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at her residence.
She was born March 21, 1961, in Tiffin to Joseph and Wilma (Durst) Decker. She and Kenneth E. Canode Jr. were married
Aug. 16, 1980, in Fireside.
Besides her husband, other survivors include: a son, Dustin Ritter of Carey; two sisters, Barbara Fletcher of Carey and Mary Burks of Charles City, Va.
She attended Vanlue and Carey schools; worked as a home health aide for the Seneca County Health Department; was a member of Christ's Church; and co-chairperson of Faith in Action.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ's Church at Tiffin, US 224 and SR 18, with the Rev. Jon Bravinder officiating. Burial will be at the Fireside cemetery in Fireside.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home. Friends may also call one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, Tiffin.
Violet Marie McElwee

Violet Marie McElwee, 89, formerly of Mifflin Township, Wyandot County, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in the Toledo Hospital. She had resided in Fremont for about 45 years and wintered in Englewood, Fla., for the past 20 years.
Mrs. McElwee was born to Burrell and Alice (Dawson) Culver in Cortland March 8, 1910. She married
Robert McElwee May 3, 1959, in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Mifflin Township.
Surviving are her husband and a sister, Mrs. Burt (Evelyn) Leslie of Columbus.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Floyd Culver, and sisters Olivia Leightey, Mabel Stansbery and an infant sister.
She attended the Maybee one-room school in Wyandot County and was a 1929 Upper Sandusky high school graduate; worked a total of 40 years for Farm Bureau, first for Wyandot County and then retired in 1972 from Sandusky County as office manager; was a former member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher; a former 4-H member and adviser of the Mifflin Township Busy Daughters 4-H Club; attended the Wyandot County Fair every year of her life and every day of the fair; collected news articles of her entire family over the years; enjoyed fishing, collecting sea shells, vegetable and flower gardening, her strawberry patch and eating out.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Douglas McCartney officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Heart Fund or to the 4-H Endowment Fund.

A memorial service for Philip B. Thomson, 73, 11 Westwood Court, who died Dec. 24, 1999, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Paul R. Cook

Paul R. Cook, 55, died at 9:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at his home at 215 Tomb St.
He was born April 6, 1944, in Tiffin, to the late Russell A. and Maye E. (Arter) Cook. On Aug. 17, 1968, in Tiffin, he married
Pat Swerlein, who survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Beverly Dunlap of Tiffin; a son, Scott Cook of Whitmore Lake, Mich.; a brother, Harold Cook of Perrysburg; and two grandchildren.
A brother, Duane, also is deceased.
Mr. Cook, a 1962 graduate of Columbian High School, had been employed as an insurance agent for Western-Southern Life Insurance Co., retiring after 32 years of service.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a member of First Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Peggy Marks will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
