Elmer N. Welly
City of Fostoria retiree
Elmer N. Welly, 73, of 433 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 9:33 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Seneca County, to Joseph and Mathilda (Kirian) Welly. On July 16, 1965, in Fostoria, he married
Doris Geren. She died Oct. 25, 1988.
Surviving are: three sisters, Florence Foltz and Mary Doogs, both of Fostoria, and Emma Welch of Fredericktown; and a brother, Alfred L. Welly of Fostoria.
Also preceding him in death were a son, Jamie Welly; two brothers, Raymond and Eugene Welly; and three sisters, Rose and Helen Reiter and Rita Hemminger.
Mr. Welly, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1989 from the City of Fostoria, after 23 years with the Water and Sewer Department. He previously worked at Riegel Foods in New Riegel.
He was a member of American Legion Post 73, Eagles Aerie 430 and the Fostoria United Sportsman Club, all of Fostoria.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria..
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Eagles memorial services will be at 7.
Memorials may be made to St Jude's Hospital or St. Wendelin's School Bus Fund.
Celeste J. Brickner
Retired teacher
Celeste J. Brickner, 86, of 6149 W. Tiffin St., Bascom, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in Autumnwood Care Center.
She was born March 16, 1913, in Seneca County, to Frank and Dora (Hammer) Brickner.
Survivors include: a brother, Francis J. Brickner of Fostoria; three sisters, Sister Mary Norene of the Ursuline Convent, Toledo, Mary Agnes Clouse of New Riegel and Regina Hohman of Tiffin; and 24 nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Luella Kelbley and Marcella Brickner, preceded her in death.
Miss Brickner, a graduate of Calvert High School and Bowling Green State University, retired in 1976 as a teacher. She starting teaching in 1933, and taught for 31 years in a one-room school and 25 years at St. Andrew School, Liberty Township.
A lifelong resident of Seneca County, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin.
She also did volunteer work at Hopewell-Loudon School and spent many years in CCD work in the local community.
An avid gardener and charter member of the Bascom Community Garden Club, she shared her talents with many.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 am. Tuesday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank Murd, the Rev. Frederick Schill and the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery, Bascom.
There will be no visitation. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Library, Hopewell-Loudon Elementary School Library or the donor's choice.
The Rev. Ardith D. Messer
Minister/clergy assistant
The Rev. Ardith D. Messer, 57, of 25 N. Marion St., Bloomville, died at 7:24 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born in Logan, W.Va., Oct. 15, 1942, to John Franklin and Margaret Virginia (Spencer) Messer. His mother survives in Mount Gay, W.Va. On June 9, 1961, in Chicago, Ill., he married
Freda Malone, who survives.
Survivors also include: a son, Ardith Dewayne Messer of Tiffin; two daughters, Tina Thomas of Tiffin and Ginger Mizen of Bloomville; a sister, Mrs. Hillard (Barbara) Whitt of Meadow Fork, W.Va.; and 11 grandchildren.
His father and a brother, Erman Messer, also are deceased.
The Rev. Messer was a clergy assistant at Faith Assembly Church, Willard, where he also was a member.
The Rev. George Boyer and the Rev. Virgil Cole will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Pillar of Faith Church, 566 N. Washington St. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Piller of Faith Church.
The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marion E. Elems
American Standard retiree
Marion E. Elems, 82, 266 Beechwood Drive, died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where he had been a patient for several days.
He was born in Tiffin May 26, 1917, to Freed S. and Florence M. (Miller) Elems. On Sept. 24, 1960, at the home of their daughter, he married
Nellie P. Price, who survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Harrison of Tiffin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Bart (Dorothy) Faber of rural Tiffin.
Three brothers, George S., Robert E. and Harold L. Elems, and three sisters, Audrey and Margaret Elems and Janet Rodegeb, are deceased.
Mr. Elems, who attended Columbian High School, retired as a yard foreman from American Standard Inc. He also retired from the maintenance department at Heidelberg College.
A U.S. Army Signal Corps veteran, serving under Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in England, France, Belgium and Germany during World War II, he was a member of Melmore United Methodist Church and a lifetime Seneca County resident.
The Rev. Howard Huston will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Friday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
India L. Gaston
Retired nursing director
India L. Gaston, 88, died at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Autumnwood Care Center, where she had resided for a year. She was born in Kentucky Aug. 31, 1910, to George E. and Nellie M. (Gordon) Leland. Her husband, Silas Glen Gaston, whom she married
June 7, 1934, in Toledo, is deceased.
A niece, Thelma Faze of Lima, survives.
Mrs. Gaston, a graduate of Saluda High School, near New Washington, Ind., retired as director of nurses from the Tiffin Psychiatric Hospital after 36 years of employment.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Registered Nurses Club.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Halstead officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Evelyn I. McKee
Atlas Crankshaft retiree
Evelyn I. McKee, 72, of Jeanette Drive, Fostoria, died at her residence at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999.
She was born May 1, 1927, in Hancock County, to William and Mary (Lehmkuhl) Higley. On June 22, 1946, in Fostoria, she married
Lloyd McKee. He survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: a son, Wayne McKee of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Cheryl) Hall of Carey; a brother, Mike Higley of Brooksville, Fla.; a sister, Dolores Smalley of Toledo; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Mary Frances McKee, and a sister, Alma Stock, are deceased.
Mrs. McKee retired in 1983 from the Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria, where she was employed as an accountant for 25 years. She later worked as a licensed real estate agent for Realty World in Findlay and as a beauty consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics.
A member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church; Women of the Moose, from which she received the degree of College of Regents; and the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, all of Fostoria, she had attended Arcadia and Fostoria High Schools and received her diploma from the American Schools. She also attended Terra Technical College, Fremont.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, where Women of the Moose memorial services will be at 7 and a Scripture service at 8:30.
Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Church, its Education Fund or the Fostoria Moose Lodge.
Russell J. Porter Sr.
Union Carbide retiree
Russell J. Porter Sr., 83, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his home at 461 W. Lytle St. Lot 6, Fostoria.
He was born May 1, 1916, in Huntington, W.Va., to James M. and Betty J. (Holley) Porter. His wife, Gertrude L. (Carr) Porter, whom he married
Dec. 3, 1955, in Toledo, died April 18, 1994.
Survivors include: three sons, John H. Crawford of Findlay, Russell J. Porter Jr. of Fostoria and Carl A. Porter of Bloomdale; a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Mary) Garner of Fostoria; two brothers, Carl A. Porter of Columbus and Forest Porter of Bloomingburg; a sister, Bernice Porter of Columbus; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Porter retired in 1981 as a laborer from the Union Carbide (now National Electric Carbon) in Fostoria, after 23 years of employment.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Weaver cemetery, Bloom Township, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
Carleton F. Belknap
Tiffin resident's father
Carleton F. Belknap, 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Mr. Belknap was born March 19, 1920. He married
Darlene (Overly) on May 17, 1945. She survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Carl of Tiffin and Eugene of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. John (Pat) Mayce of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Connie Angel of Muncie, Ind.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister and a brother; and several nieces and nephews.
He is retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. of Jackson, Mich.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Patience Montogomery in Jackson, Mich., in charge of the burial.

Robert A. Moyer

Robert A. Moyer, 80, of 3255 S. CR 19, Tiffin, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Moyer was born June 16, 1919, in Bloomville to Arthur and Eulalia (Lawrence) Moyer and married
Marguerite Holtz Feb. 19, 1946, in Cambridge. She died July 10, 1959. He married
Rita Auda Aug. 1, 1960. She survives.
Also surviving are: a son, James of Tiffin; three daughters, Mrs. Jerome (Barbara) Schlick of Tiffin, Mrs. David (Janet) Datsko of Bel Air, Md., and Mrs. Ronald (Jane) Kramer of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. John (Judith) Koch of Greenwood, Ind.; three brothers, Charles and Richard of Tiffin and Don of Fremont; three sisters, Mrs. William (Jean) Katzenmeyer of Tiffin, Mrs. Gordon (Glenna) Winters of Carey, N.C., and Mrs. John (Dorothy) Durfee of Peoria, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, John; a brother, Lloyd; two sisters, Marguerite Moyer and Betty Brickner.
He was in the U. S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. he retired in 1975 after 30 years as a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Knights of Columbus Third Degree.
The Rosary will be recited at 10:45 Monday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with the funeral mass following at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic cemetery where the United Veterans Council will perform a military service.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home with a wake service at 7:45 p.m.

F. Bruce Theobald Sr., 88, of Van Buren Street, Fostoria, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at the Medical College of Ohio.
He was the former owner of Kinn-Theobald Agency.

Margaret Siddall
Retired nurse
Margaret Siddall, 93, formerly of Vanlue and Findlay, died at 3:26 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at the Winebrenner Village in Findlay.
She was born March 26, 1906, in Hancock County to Harry P. and Fla Victoria (Eschbach) Miller and married
Ralph B. Siddall Sept. 15, 1930, in Hancock County. He died May 29, 1990.
Surviving are: two daughters, Nancy Siddall of Castro Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Paul (Janet) Culp of Westland, Mich.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a stepbrother, Paul Dipert of Findlay.
A sister, Lucille McKinney, preceded her in death.
She was a 1925 graduate of the Vanlue high school and a graduate of Blanchard Valley Hospital School of Nursing; a retired registered nurse who had worked at the former Indian Trail Nursing Home in Carey; a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Vanlue; and Ladies' Aid Group at the church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home in Carey with the Rev. Jackie D. Leigh officiating with burial following in the Van Horn cemetery, Vanlue.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Dan G. Coleman, 76, of 363 Sweet St., Upper Sandusky, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Coleman was born May 13, 1923, in Tuscola County, Michigan, to Wesley Jesse and Elsie (Hart) Coleman. He married
Reva Jean Stalter May 30, 1957, in Upper Sandusky and she survives.
Also surviving are: three sons, Thomas D. of St. Charles, Mich., Jess L. of Barryton, Mich., Randy F. of Pinconning, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Margo) Enos of Vassar, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Rosemary Harmon of Upper Sandusky; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a stepson, Richard Stalter; two brothers; and three sisters.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp. serving in World War II from 1942-1946; retired in 1988 from Engineered Wire Products as maintenance superintendent after 20 years; owner/operator of blade knife, scissors and saw sharpening business known as the Edge Shop; a Life member and a Past Commander of the American Legion; a Life member of V.F.W.; a Life member of the AmVets; past president of the Wyandot County Sportsman's Club; and enjoyed mushroom hunting, reading and Country Western music.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, in the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. John Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Mission cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by local vet organizations.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
