Roger Farver
Former Green Springs resident

Word has been received of the death of Roger Farver, 89, of Mesa, Ariz., who died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999.

His parents, Julia and John Farver, are deceased.

Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, Thelma Farver; two sons in the Akron area and two daughters in Mesa.

Mr. Farver, who attended school in Green Springs, was employed at Goodyear in Akron, where he lived before moving to Arizona three years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

The body has been cremated and burial will be in Butternut Ridge cemetery, near Green Springs.

Owen F. Fruth
Whirlpool retiree

Owen F. Fruth, 68, of 5349 N. CR 15, Green Springs, who was found dead at his residence at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 16, 1999.

He was born in Wadsworth July 1, 1931, to the late Oliver and Ellen (Ady) Fruth. On May 29, 1962, in the Melmore Methodist Church, he married Zoe E. Pangle. She survives.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Laura Fruth) Bannister of Fremont and Mrs. Robert (Jennifer) Inslay of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren; three brothers, Ray M. Fruth of Findlay, Oliver F. Fruth of Sanger, Calif., and Max E. Fruth of Tiffin; and a sister, Opal Faye Sims, also of Tiffin.

Mr. Fruth, a U.S. Air Force veteran, worked at I.T.T. Abrasive and retired from Whirlpool Corp., Clyde, after 28 years.

Formerly of Republic and Tiffin, he was a 1949 graduate of Republic High School.

The Rev. Jerry Wiles will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department or Auxiliary and the Green Springs EMS.

Jean Doran
Rural Carey homemaker

Jean Doran, 68, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at her home at 7440 S. CR 591, Carey.

She was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Wyandot County, Upper Sandusky, to the late Vincent L. and Constance E. (Orians) Arnold. On April 7, 1951, in The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Carey, she married James Charles Doran. He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Daniel and Kathy Doran, and Mrs. Robert (Suzann) Bodart, all of Fostoria, Mrs. Dennis (Sandra) Scherger of Whitehouse and Mrs. Gregory (Carol) Siebenaller of Bascom; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Frisch of Tiffin; and three brothers, David and Carl Arnold, both of Tiffin, and Paul Arnold of Carey.

Also preceding her in death were three infant sons, Anthony, James and John Doran.

A homemaker, Mrs. Doran was a 1949 graduate of Carey High School.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown and its Rosary Altar Society; Eucharistic Ministries, the Farm Bureau, J.T.C. Club and the Seneca County Elections Board.

Also a religious education teacher, she was active in the Cursillo and had hosted three exchange students from Youth For Understanding and a child through the Catholic Charities of Toledo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Nicholas Catholic Church. The Rev. Conrad Sutter will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey.

Memorials may be made to the church or Bridge Hospice.

Jessie Edith (Zahn) Clagett
Centenarian/former county resident

Jessie Edith (Zahn) Clagett, 100, of Hugo, Colo., died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in the Lincoln Community Nursing Home, Hugo.

She was born in Detroit, Mich., March 3, 1899, to Charles L. and Jessie (McEwin) Zahn. Her husband, Josiah Clagett, whom she married Aug. 11, 1923, died June 5, 1973.

Surviving are two sons, John M. Clagett of Loveland, Colo., and Charles D. Clagett of Hugo; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Leslie Miles of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Mrs. Clagett, a homemaker and former Fostoria Auto-Lite Co. employee, was a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church, Tiffin.

A 1917 graduate of Ursuline Academy, she attended Cleveland School of Arts for two years. She had lived most of her life in Seneca County.

The funeral is today in the Love Funeral Home in Colorado.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pleasant Union cemetery.

The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mildred B. O'Connor
Retired Tiffin city auditor

Mildred B. O'Connor, 87, formerly of Elm Avenue, died at 8:31 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, in Autumnwood Care Center, where she had resided since 1994.

She was born in Tiffin Feb. 15, 1912, to Charles and Julia (Shuman) Beidelman. On Jan. 20, 1962, in Trinity United Church of Christ, she married Raymond O'Connor. He is deceased.

Survivors include: two stepchildren, Raymond O'Connor Jr. of Albany, Ga., and Mrs. Howard (Jean) Sponseller of Asheville, N.C.; eight step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

A stepdaughter, Mrs. Thomas (Betty) Pahl; and a sister, Mrs. Francis (Helen) Reinhart, are deceased.

Mrs. O'Connor, a graduate of Columbian High School and Heidelberg College, retired as Tiffin city auditor.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and its church groups and the Business and Professional Women.

A lifetime resident of Tiffin, she spent her winters in Florida.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ, with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery at 10:30 a.m.

There will be no visitation. The Turner Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Carl E. Gerstenberger
Wyandot County farmer

Services for Carl E. "Bub" Gerstenberger, 73, of New Riegel, who died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, are at 11 a.m. today in St. Jacob's United Church of Christ, CR 43 and 38, Adams Township.

Burial will follow in St. Jacob's cemetery, where military graveside rites will be performed by the United Veterans Council. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Mae Shank
Fostoria resident

Edna Mae Shank, 74, of Carrie Lane, Fostoria, died at 3:38 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. She was born July 25, 1925, in Athens to George and Florence (McConaha) Coleman. On Aug. 12, 1941, she married John H. Shank. He died July 9, 1987.

Survivors include: two sons, Gene Shank of Wayne and John Shank of Genoa; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Abbott of Wayne, Margaret Arnold of Jamestown, N.D., and Sharon Griffen of Fostoria; a brother, George Coleman of Deshler; a sister, Irene Thomas of Fostoria; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were: two brothers, Gerald and John Coleman, and three sisters, Helen Coleman, Sylvia Scott and Margaret Bump.

Mrs. Shank was a homemaker and a member of the Fostoria Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

The Rev. Buck Traylor will officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday service at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be at Memory Gardens near Arcadia.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

David E. Stout
Retired Highway Concrete employee

David E. Stout, 83, formerly of Mt. Blanchard, recently of his daughter's home in Toledo for 2 1/2 years, died at 5:58 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999. He was born April 23, 1916, to Charles L. and Mary E. (Kachele) Stout. On Aug. 28, 1940, he married Martha L. Presler. She died July 5, 1997.

Surviving are a son, Jerrold L. Stout of Mt. Blanchard; a daughter, Mrs. Donna S. Talamantez of Toledo; six sisters, Edith L. Walters of Mansfield, Mary E. Truman of Toledo, Ann Baker of Upper Sandusky, Louise Laucher of Delaware and Jane E. Pierce of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Henry A. Stout of Vienna, W.Va.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a sister, Arlene R. Evans; three brothers, Russell L., George S., and Robert E. Stout.

Mr. Stout was an Army veteran of World War II and an honorary member of Vanlue High School FFA. He retired from Highway Concrete Pipe Co. in Findlay. He was also a part-time farmer in the Vanlue area and a former St. Paul United Methodist Church member of rural Vanlue, where he was very active with the youth and young married couples.

The Rev. Mark Burden will officiate the 11 a.m. Monday service at Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be at Zion Bloom cemetery, Vanlue.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio (c/o the funeral home).

Samuel Burdette Beavers
Tiffin residents' father

Samuel Burdette Beavers, 80, of Liberty Center, died in his residence Thursday morning, Nov. 18, 1999. He was born July 26, 1919, to Clyde and Golda (Dull) Beavers. On May 25, 1940 he married Thelma Young, who survives.

Other survivors include: four daughters, Kay Irving of Tiffin, Gloria Gilders of Delta, Sue Beman of Toledo and Gina O'Neill of Delta; a sister, Dorothy Young of Delta; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a son, Burdette Beavers Jr.; grandsons, Scott Beman, Daniel and David Gilders; and two brothers, Burl and Ralph Beavers.

Mr. Beavers was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a carpenter and member of the Carpenters Union, Local 248, Toledo. Other memberships include: VFW Post 6596, Liberty Center and 50-year member of Liberty Center-Washington Township Fire Department. He was the grand marshal in the 125th North Western Ohio Volunteer Fireman's Association Convention in Liberty Center this year.

Pastor Jerry Steen of the Wesleyan Church, Liberty Center, will officiate the 11 a.m. Monday service at Wright Funeral Home in Liberty Center. Burial will be at Youngs cemetery. Visitation hours will be after 7 p.m. Saturday and after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A fireman's service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Henry County Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Russell H. Patterson
Tiffin resident

Russell H. Patterson, 93, of 247 W. Perry St., died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at the Ruffing Family Care Center.

The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Visitation and other arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Rollin F. Hirt
Clyde resident

Rollin F. Hirt, 78, of Woodland Avenue, Clyde, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, in the Bellevue Hospital.

Mr. Hirt was born in Riley Township in Sandusky County Sept. 7, 1921, to Harold and Dorothy (Last) Hirt. He was a life-time resident in the Clyde area.

He married Doris Gilbert Sept. 17, 1942, and she survives along with a son, Gary Hirt of Clyde; a daughter, Mrs. William (Sandra) Jay of Fremont; three brothers, William of Port Clinton, Warren and Luther, both of Fremont.

A graduate of Chippewa school in Riley Township, he was in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a laborer with the Ohio Turnpike Commission for 29 years; a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde; American Legion of Clyde having served as commander; commander of the Sandusky County Legion; and a member of the Clyde Eagles.

The Rev. Gerry Gosnell will officiate at the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery where military graveside services will be provided by the Clyde VFW and Clyde American Legion.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to either St. Paul Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or American Heart Association.

Russell H. Patterson
Wallpaper/paint store retiree

Russell H. Patterson, 93, 247 W. Perry St., died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, in Tiffin.

He was born in Columbus, May 5, 1906, to Harry L. and Minnie May (Ruble) Patterson. His wife, Marie M. (Fate) Patterson, whom he married in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, preceded him in death in September 1967.

Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia Patterson of Tiffin; a sister, Loretta Patterson Wells of Marion; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Carol A. Patterson, who died Oct. 9; two sisters, Bertha and Edith Patterson; and a brother, Regan Patterson.

Mr. Patterson worked for the Erie Railroad Line in Ohio, at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron and retired from Brinnon's Wallpaper and Paint in Tiffin.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

The Rev. William Rose will be the celebrant at the 10 a.m. Monday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass Monday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church.
