Charles A. 'Chuck' Bernard

Charles A. "Chuck" Bernard, 68, of 6074 CR 23, Fostoria, died at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10,1999, at his daughter's home.
He was born in Tiffin, Jan. 30, 1931, to the late Oscar and Louise (Wilhelm) Bernard. His first wife, Shirley Heyman, died Oct. 7, 1976.
Surviving are: a son, Charles A. Bernard Jr. of Camarillo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Margaret Ann) Smith of Fostoria; a sister, Rose Marie Tate of Tiffin; a brother, Richard D. Bernard Sr. of Clyde; and five grandchildren.
Two sisters and five brothers also are deceased.
Mr. Bernard, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, had been employed, since April 1973, as a welder/fabricator at Seneca Environmental.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
A funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. James K. Say as celebrant.The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Kenneth E. Martin
Tiffin resident's brother
Kenneth E. Martin, 57, of Huron, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Fostoria, to the late Edward "Bud" and Ruth E. Martin, and had been a resident of the Huron area for 20 years, coming from Bellevue.
Survivors include: his wife of 29 years, Retha (Travis) Martin; two daughters, Oshel Cloward of Berlin Heights and Mrs. John (Sabrina) Wright of Reynoldsburg; a son, Shane Martin, also of Berlin Heights; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Martin, both of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Cloward in 1988.
Mr. Martin, a U.S. Navy veteran, worked in the Huron-Sandusky area as a painting contractor for 35 years.
A lifetime member of the Sandusky AMVETS, he also was a member of the Huron Eagles, where he served as trustee and past president.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron, with the Rev. Marty Patton of Dayton, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Berlin Heights.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Warren O. Banks
Brother of Tiffin resident
Word has been received of the death of Warren O. Banks, 89, of Tucson, Ariz., who died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999.
Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Reba Banks; two daughters, Karen Bruner of Phoenix, Ariz. and Diana Wellman of Tucson; a sister, Chloe Fertig of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
His son, Ronald Banks, is deceased.
Mr. Banks moved to Tucson in 1953 from Tiffin, where he had worked at Huber Freight Line.
He also worked at Hughes Aircraft in Tucson for 21 years and served as a Highway Patrol Reserve patrolman for 20 years.
The Bring's Memorial Chapel, Tucson, is in charge of arrangements.
Charles M. Clouse Sr.
Pastor/mason contractor
Charles M. Clouse Sr., 71, formerly of Norris Drive, Clyde, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, in the Arbors of Clyde.
He was born in Richmond, Ky., June 28, 1928, to Aaron and Elizabeth (Chadwell) Clouse. His wife, Martha (Dayringer) Clouse, whom he married
July 9, 1948, died May 13, 1999.
Surviving are: four sons, Charles Jr., Robert and Troy Clouse, all of Clyde and James Clouse of Scotsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Linda Clouse of Newhall, Calif. and Mrs. Tivis (Barbara) Hamilton of Stanville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Martin, Kathryn Lane and Betty Tanner, all of Morristown, Tenn.; and four brothers, Hubert, Paul, James and Thomas Clouse, all of Rosehill, Va.
Mr. Clouse, a self-employed mason, also served as a pastor of the Penecostal Church of God, Clyde, where he was a member and at God's Lighthouse in Tiffin.
A resident of the Clyde area for many years, he received his education in Ewing, Va.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Gene Paul officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
Albert Jacob Walter
Retired rural Carey farmer
Albert Jacob Walter, 80, of Route 2, Carey, died at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Tiffin Mercy Hospital.
He was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Carey to Fred E. and Sylvia Elizabeth (Gault) Walter. On Aug. 20, 1940, he married
Edna Louise Boyce. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Lynn Albert Walter of Upper Sandusky and Frederick Charles Walter of Dola; three daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Louise Etzinger of Upper Sandusky, Mrs. Janet McLaughlin of Forest and Mrs. Sally Clark of McCutchenville; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two brothers.
Mr. Walter retired from farming and formerly worked for Westinghouse of Upper Sandusky.
The Rev. Floyd Thomas will officiate the 1 p.m. Saturday service at the Beach Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Arcadia.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Phyllis Lou Marshall
Former Tiffin resident
Phyllis Lou Marshall, 70, native of Tiffin and resident of Mobile, Ala., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at a local hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Marshall of Mobile; two sons, Kenneth N. Marshall, and Robert Marshall of Brookland, Ark.; two daughters, Christine L. Clarkson and Ruth A. Marshall, both of Mobile; and five grandchildren.
Mrs. Marshall was a former member and nursery director of Roseland Park Baptist Church, Picayune, Miss. She was also actively involved as a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with services following at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Radney-Belmany Funeral Home, 6110 Grelot Road, Mobile, Ala. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Richard S. 'Dick' Johnson
Retired heavy equipment operator
Services for Richard S. "Dick" Johnson, 71, of 205 E. 9th St., Sycamore, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamor, the Rev. David Spradlin officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-9 p.m. today.
Mr. Johnson died at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born April 11, 1928, in Marysville, to Harry L. and Opal M. (Underhill) Johnson. On Aug. 18, 1950, in Bloomville, he married
Helen L. Funkhouser, who survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Jerry L. Johnson of Sycamore; six sisters, Mrs. Francis Sarver of Peoria, Mrs. Evelyn Sarver of Marion, Mrs. Juanita Miller of Marysville, Mrs. Margaret Raymond of Bristolville, Mrs. Martha Wynn of Sharon, Pa. and Mrs. Mary Ritter of Tucson, Ariz; and a brother, Harry Johnson Jr. also of Tucson.
A daughter, Penny Jo Johnson, died Feb. 22, 1982; and two sisters, Marie Moler and Mrs. Harriet Culver; and two brothers, Lewis and Ross Johnson, also are deceased.
Mr. Johnson, who served in Germany during the Korean Conflict, retired as a heavy equipment operator from Harley Forth Trucking and Excavating in Sycamore.
A former member of Deunquat Lutheran Church, where he was a former Sunday school superintendent, he was a member of Sycamore American Legion Post 250.
His hobbies included fishing and growing roses.
The Rev. David Spradlin will be the officiant at the . Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore, where military graveside services will be conducted by Sycamore American Legion Post 250.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-9 p.m. Friday.

Earl E. Weiker
Owner of Earl's Sohio
Earl E. Weiker, 70, of Old Fort died at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, in St. Luke's Hospital in Toledo.
He was born in Riley Township in Sandusky County Sept. 8, 1929, to Eddie and Mary Lavina (Frey) Weiker. On April 30, 1955, he married
Ellen E. Kerbel in Fremont St. John's Lutheran Church. She survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Larry E. Weiker of Green Springs and Steven A. Weiker of Bexley; a daughter, Cheryl L. Collins of Green Springs; seven grandchildren; a brother, Carlos Weiker of Green Springs; and a sister, Erma Smith also of Green Springs.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Denzil Weiker, and a sister, Freida Weiker.
He graduated from Green Springs High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired in January 1988 as owner/operator of Earl's Sohio Station in Old Fort; was a member of the Old Fort United Methodist Church; Fremont Moose; Fremont VFW; Green Springs American Legion; and former member of the Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the Rev. Jerry Wiles officiating. Burial will be in the Green Springs cemetery with the V.F.W. Post of Fremont and the Green Springs American Legion having combined military graveside services.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are 4-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Memorials may be made to either the Old Fort United Methodist Church or the Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department.
Gerald W. 'Gigg' Long

Gerald W. "Gigg" Long, 78, of 2338 SR 590, Burgoon, died at 11:27 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in the emergency room of Fremont Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Long was born July 12, 1921, to Cecil and Geneva May (Branyan) Long in Oceola. He lived most of his life in Sandusky County. On Sept. 3, 1976, he married
Bonnie Busse-Smith in the United Methodist Church at Burgoon.
His wife survives along with the following family: two daughters, Kara L. Hetrick of Fremont and Deborah B. Long, at home; a step-son, Thomas S. Smith of Marion; two step-daughters, Amanda L. Smith of Tiffin and Cheryl A. Rando of Green Springs; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil Long Jr., Gene Long and James Long, all of Fremont.
Preceding him in death were: a son, Christopher G. Long, who died in 1976; and three sisters, Dorothy Izzi, Iva Burkin and one who died at birth.
He graduated from Jackson Burgoon High School and served in the U.S. Army as sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. He retired after more than 40 years as an electrician at Basic Refractory, Inc. He was a member of the Burgoon United Methodist Church; Arthur Sullivan Post of American Legion in Bettsville; VFW Post 2947 in Fremont; received a Humanitarian Award for his assistance to people during the blizzard of 1978; and enjoyed fishing and all sports, especially the Detroit Tigers.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville with the Rev. Martha Gross officiating. Burial will be in the Smith cemetery with the Bettsville American Legion and the Fremont VFW conducting combined military services.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Basic Quarter Century Club services at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
