Betty L. Newlan
Vanlue homemaker
Betty L. Newlan, 74, of 317 Crawford St., Vanlue, died at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.
She was born in Monroe County, Mich., Nov. 6, 1924, to Herbert and Sadie (Graves) Presler. On March 15, 1946, she married
Bernard E. Newlan, who died July 9, 1991.
Survivors include: a son, Herbert E. Newlan, of Vanlue; and a sister, Virginia Morehart of Findlay.
Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Neva Martin, Nina Presler, and Nellie Fruth; and two brothers, Howard and Galen Presler.
Mrs. Newlan, a homemaker, was a member of Vanlue Bethel United Methodist Church. She had attended Vanlue High School.
Services in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Joseph Searfoss officiating. Interment will be in Van Horn cemetery, near Vanlue.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Leatha E. Jones
Former St. Francis Rehab employee
Leatha E. Jones, 54, of Duane Street, Clyde, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at her home.
She was born July 22, 1945, to the late Floyd and Ella (Ruessler) Brotherton. On July 19, 1964, in Jackson, Mo., she married
Joe Jones, who survives.
Survivors also include: a son, Jeffery Joe Jones of Bellevue; a daughter, Teresa Scherf of Green Springs; a brother, Delmar Brotherton of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and three sisters, Marie Miller and Laura Helen Smith, both of Jackson, Mo., and Bess Byran of Ashville, N.C.
A son, Shawn Spencer Jones died in 1993 and a sister, Luella and three brothers, Delbert, Floyd and Louis, also are deceased.
Mrs. Jones, a homemaker, also was formerly employed at St. Francis Rehabilitation Center in Green Springs and Huron Products in Bellevue.
A member of Calvary Baptist Church, Clyde, she enjoyed making flower arrangements and quilting.
Services will be Wednesday in Calvary Baptist Church, Clyde, with the time pending. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation at the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society.

Vivian M. McCrory, 84, 48 Short St., died at her residence, Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gotfried Funeral Home.
Gloyd A. Eborg
Basic retiree
Gloyd A. Eborg, 69, died at 8:44 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at his home at 7866 N. CR 15, Green Springs.
He was born in Old Fort, Feb. 18, 1930, to the late Alvin and Zella (May) Eborg. On Aug. 9, 1969, in Old Fort United Methodist Church, he married
Mattie "Jean" Adkins, who survives.
Other survivors include: six sons, Russell and Daniel Eborg, both of Tiffin, Matthew Eborg of Columbus, Larry Powers of Salem, Garry Powers of Albuquerque, N.M., and Paul Powers of Clyde; two daughters, Deb Adkins of Washing Court House and Cherie Hakala of Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Mary Bordner of Green Springs; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Paul and Hank Eborg; and a grandchild.
Mr. Eborg, a 1948 graduate of Old Fort High School, retired in 1985 from Basic Inc., Maple Grove, where he had been employed in maintenance for 37 years.
He was a member of Fremont Baptist Temple and the Basic Quarter Century Club.
Services in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, with Pastor Hershel Case and the Rev. Grover Caudill as co-officiants. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Ocie Stiltner
Rural Clyde homemaker
Ocie Stiltner, 59, of Sandusky CR 195, Clyde, died in the Bellevue Hospital, Monday, Sept. 6, 1999. She had been in failing health for the past two years.
She was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Garden Creek, Va., to the late John and Bessie (Street) Duty. Her husband, Mack Donald Stiltner, whom she married
Oct. 20, 1970, preceded her in death May 1, 1986.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Quint (Carol) Moates of Stanton, Va.; two sons, Johnny Stiltner of Fremont and Ronnie Stiltner of Fair Play, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Dan (Lily) Hurt of Bellevue.
A brother, William Clark Duty, also is deceased.
Mrs. Stiltner, a homemaker, received her education in Garden Creek, Va.
Involved in Project Read in Fremont for a number of years, she was a member of the Bellevue Assembly of God Church.
The Rev. Tim Davis and the Rev. Rodney Buchanan, will be the co-officiants at the 10:30 a.m. Thursday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation at the funeral home is 7-9 p.m. today.

Olive L. Miller
Upper Sandusky homemaker
Olive L. Miller, 85, of Upper Sandusky, died at 3:36 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, in Marion General Hospital.
She was born July 23, 1914, in Upper Sandusky, to John and Artie G. (Hall) Carpenter. On Aug. 16, 1934, in Covington, Ky., she married
Thomas H. Miller. He died Oct. 24, 1980.
Survivors include: three daughters, Sara Lou Brown of Upper Sandusky, Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Henige of Cleveland and Mrs. Roy (Carol) Hostetter of Nevada; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
The last of her family, she also was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
A homemaker, Mrs. Miller and her husband were the former owners/operators of the Dairy Snack 1958-77, in Upper Sandusky.
She was a member of John Stewart United Methodist Church, where she served as a former Sunday school teacher and as a member of its United Methodist Women.
A 1932 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, she also was a member of the Usando Literary Club and several card clubs. She enjoyed playing cards and reading.
Services in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Lenn Geiger officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church, Wyandot County Home Health or the donor's choice.
Lyle Lace
Norfolk Southern Railroad retiree
Lyle Lace, 62, of Bloomville, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in the Medical College Hospital, Toledo. He was born in Bloomville in 1936 and worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for 29 years. Mr. Lace was very active in the community and had been involved in many Harley-Davidson poker runs.
He is survived by his son, Lyle Lace, Jr.; a daughter, Yelonda Johnston; grandson, Bryan Johnston, all of Florida; two sisters, Marjorie Platt and Francas Holmer, both of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements by the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., Toledo.
Carleton F. Schock
Former Tiffin resident
Carleton F. Schock, 77, formerly of Tiffin and Cleveland, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at his home in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary (Brause) Schock; a son, Thomas Schock of Cleveland; a daughter, Judy Wetzel of Pittsburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; a brother, Richard Schock of Sandusky; and a sister, Leona Joseph of Tiffin.
A 1940 graduate of Republic High School, Mr. Schock worked for several years at Basic Refractory. He was also a member of Teamster Local 407 and worked as an over-the-road truck driver.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the St. Clarence Church, 30106 Lorain Road, in the Cleveland suburb of North Olmsted. Interment will be at Fairmont cemetery in Tiffin.
Donations be made to the American Heart Association.
M. Joan Huth
Fostoria resident
M. Joan Huth, 69, of 604 N. Vine St., Fostoria, died Friday, Sept. 10, in Fostoria.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria.
Howard P. Van Horn
Green Springs residents' grandson
Howard Philip Van Horn, 16, of Darnestown, Md., died suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999.
Survivors include: his parents, Howard and Jane (Nye) Van Horn; a sister, Amy Van Horn; grandparents Wilbur and Rose Nye of Green Springs, Dorothy and the late Howard Van Horn Sr.; great-grandmother, Sophie Rdersinski of Philadelphia; godparents Joe and Sarah Nye of New Washington.
He was a student at Wootton High School, Rockville, Md.; member of the JV football team; and an active member of Civil Air Patrol.
The funeral Mass was Sept. 4 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church and the interment was at Gate of Heaven cemetery in Silver Springs, Md.

Richard Lee 'Rick' Swartz
Tiffin resident
Richard Lee "Rick" Swartz, 50, 59 Tomb St., died at 4:18 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born Oct. 24, 1948, in Tiffin, to Richard L. and Patricia J. (Aubry) Swartz. His mother survives in Tiffin. On June 26, 1969, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married
Darlene LaFontaine, who survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Richard Lee Swartz Jr. of Fort Irwin, Calif., and Craig Aubry Swartz of Tiffin; three adopted children, Dawn Thoney, Charles Slysz and Jerry Solomon, all of Tiffin; three brothers, Greg, Stephen and Scott Swartz, all of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Deborah) DeRose of Huron and Mrs. Gary (Pam) Smith of Westerville; and six grandchildren.
His father is deceased.
Mr. Swartz, a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served 22 years, was a distributor for S & S Variety Beverages, Inc.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Moose Lodge 846, Eagles Aerie 402, Tiffin Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and AMVETS Post 48.
A funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Frank A. Murd as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. Entombment will be in Seneca Memory Gardens Mausoleum, where military services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, where Lions Club services will be at 6 p.m. and Moose services at 7 p.m.

David N. Frisch
National Machinery retiree
David N. Frisch, 79, died at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at his home at 74 Gibson Court.
He was born in Kirby, April 6, 1920, to Charles and Frona (Wagner) Frisch. His wife, Marjorie A. (Orians) Frisch, whom he married
May 11, 1946, in Carey, survives.
Survivors also include: a son, Roger Frisch of Cincinnati; three daughters, Debra Thompson of Dayton, Mrs. David (Sharon) Kirby of Tiffin and Mrs. Mark (Peggy) Baxter of Spencerville; two brothers, Wilson Frisch of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Charles Frisch Jr. of Forest; two sisters, Mrs. Wilfred (Hilda) Vent of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Dan (Janice) Liles of Findlay; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A daughter, Sue Ann Frisch, five brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.
Mr. Frisch, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Corps of Engineers, retired in 1980 as foreman of the tool and die department at National Machinery, after 35 years of employment.
An avid golfer and woodworker, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, the National Machinery Quarter Century Club, Moose Lodge 846 and Elks Lodge 94.
The Rev. James K. Say will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Monday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with National Machinery Quarter Century Club members meeting at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Tiffin, St. Joseph Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Mary 'Joan' Huth

Mary "Joan" Huth, 69, of 604 N. Vine St., Fostoria, died at 1:02 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Wyandot County, to Raymond F. and Gertrude M. (Thiry) Collet. Her mother survives in Findlay. On May 28, 1949, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Findlay, she married
George "William" Huth, who preceded her in death July 2, 1976.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael R. Huth of Manchester, Mass., and Gregory G. Huth of Cleveland; two daughters, Nancy M. Huth of Muncie, Ind., and Sandra D. Huth Grosko of Pickerington; two grandchildren; and a brother, Bernard J. Collet of Mansfield.
Also preceding her in death were her father and a daughter, Cynthia Huth.
Mrs. Huth, a secretary, was recently employed by Rural Life Ministry/Diocese of Toledo. She also served as administrative assistant for Catholic Charities for 18 years and was the former owner/manager, with her husband, of Commercial Press in Fostoria for 18 years.
She had previously worked as a secretary at Ohio Oil (now Marathon), Patterson's Department Store and National Automotive Fibers, all of Findlay.
A 1947 graduate of Findlay High School, she was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its Rosary-Altar Society and the church Finance Committee. She also served the church as a lector and usher and St. Wendelin Schools as a former member of the its Advisory Committee, Parish Council and organizer of its Music Boosters.
She currently served as vice president of the Board of United Way, vice-chair of the board of Fostoria Chapter American Red Cross, past president of Altrusa of Fostoria; former memer of Altrusa District Board and former Camp Fire leader.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, with the rosary recited at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Schools, the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
