Dennis Halcomb
Brother of Tiffin/Fort Seneca residents
Word has been received of the death of Dennis Halcomb, 78, of 17116 Palmer St., Melvindale, Mich., who died Friday, Aug. 28, 1999.
Surviving are his wife, Jean of Melvindale; a daughter, Linda; a granddaughter; two sisters: Josephine Bell of rural Tiffin and Bobbie Coats of Fort Seneca; and a brother, Oscar Halcomb of Whitesburg, Ky.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a son.
Mr. Halcomb retired from the Detroit Chrysler Plant.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Voron Funeral Home, 5900 Allen Road, Allen Park, Mich., where visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Flat Rock cemetery, Flat Rock, Mich.
Harold B. Selvey
Whirlpool Corp. retiree
Harold B. Selvey, 69, of Mechanic Street, Clyde, died in the Fremont Memorial Hospital Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999.
He was born in Green Springs, Feb. 22, 1930, to the late Fred Selvey and Cora (Shiley) Selvey Smyser. On July 4, 1950, he married
Janet Hackenburg. She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Karen Selvey and Mrs. Larry (Martha) De Vault, both of Clyde, and Crystal Johnson of Fremont; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Burns of Tiffin; and two brothers, Stanley and Stanford Selvey, both of Green Springs.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Manley, Robert and Richard Selvey.
Mr. Selvey, who received his education in the Green Springs schools, retired as a set-up man in 1992 from Whirlpool Corp.
A life-long resident of the Clyde area, he was a member of the Clyde Eagles.
Services in the First United Methodist Church, Clyde, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 5-8 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to the School of Hope and Sanco Industries, Castalia Street, Fremont, Ohio.
Hazel V. Tewalt
Retired Basic employee
Hazel V. Tewalt, 86, of Autumnwood Care Center, 670 E. SR 18, Tiffin, died at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999. She was born March 15, 1913, in Tiffin, to Kirby A. and Rena (Beatley) Tewalt.
Surviving include: four nieces; and a nephew; a sister, Mrs. Blaine (Mildred) Miller of Grosse lle, Mich.
Preceded in death were: a brother, James Tewalt; and a sister, Mary C. Tewalt.
Ms. Tewalt was a 1931 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Tiffin University. She retired as executive secretary from Basic Company. A member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church; Eastern Star, Chapter 189; and Union Grange. She was active in all church organizations and formerly bowled on a league.
The Rev. Andy Angel will officiate the 11:30 a.m. service at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pleasant Ridge cemetery. Chapter 189 Order Eastern Star will hold services at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.
Visitation hours are from 3-5 p.m. tonight at the Funeral Home.

Mabel P. Stiger Berlekamp
Retired General Electric Company employee
Mabel P. Stiger Berlekamp, 91, of Parkview Care Center, Fremont, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999. She was born July 1, 1908, to Flimin and Maude Mae (Williams) Reedy. On Aug. 30, 1928, she married
Harry C. Stiger, who passed away. Her second marriage was to Hugh Berlekamp; he died in 1980.
Survivors include: two sons, Harry C. Stiger of Green Springs, and Jack E. Stiger of Old Fort; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.
Preceded in death were: three brothers, Melvin, Walter, and Evert Reedy; two sisters, Bessie McDaniel, Ethel Letchard; and a step-sister, Dorothy Distel.
Mrs. Stiger Berlekamp worked at Howard Zink in Fremont and retired from General Electric. She was a member of the Old Fort United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jerry Wiles will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday service at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be at Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Funeral Home.

Mary K. (Kak) Yaney
Mother of Tiffin residents
Mary K. (Kak) Yaney, 74, of Napoleon, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in the St. Lukes Hospital of Maumee. She was born Nov. 11, 1924, to Jess and Margaret (Shaff) Foster. On March 3, 1943, she married
Jack Yaney and he preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1984.
Surviving include: two sons, John W. Yaney of Archbold, and Charles Yaney of Tiffin; three daughters, Mrs. Corkey (Kathryn) Smith of Napoleon, Mrs. Jerry (Margaret) Forsyth of Morgantown, Ky., and Mrs. Tim (Tami) Weber of Tiffin; a brother, William Foster of Napoleon; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Yaney was a former co-owner and operator of the Foster and Yaney Drug store of Napoleon; she retired in 1959. A member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and its Rosary Alter Society, and was also a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Athletic Boosters Club.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Patrick Scharf celebrant. The interment will follow in the church cemetery of Napoleon.
Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary of Napoleon from 7-9 p.m. tonight.
Memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Catholic School or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Norton Richard Boyer

Norton Richard Boyer, 84, of 627 N. Vine St., Fostoria, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria. He was born July 9, 1915, in Tiffin to Norton C. and Elizabeth (Linhart) Boyer. On Nov. 4, 1939, he married
Marian E. Puffenberger at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and she survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gary R. Boyer of Knoxville, Tenn., and Stephen W. Boyer of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (K. Diane) Howard of Silver Lake; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Phillip Boyer of Tiffin.
Preceded in death by a brother, Eugene R. Boyer.
Mr. Boyer was a 1933 graduate of St. Wendelin High School. He retired in 1977 from Atlas Crankshaft of Fostoria, as a Production Manager, where he had been employed for over 30 years. Memberships included: St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria; 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 1197, Fostoria; and Fostoria Country Club.
Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the St. Wendelin Church.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. tonight, in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.
Circle of Mercy will recite a Rosary at 4 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Christian Wake service will be at 8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Rosary will be recited at church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Gladys R. McClain, 100, of 1336 US 30, Nevada, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, in Fairhaven Health Care Community Center, Upper Sandusky. She was born Jan. 19, 1899, in Wyandot County to Jasper N. and Nora B. (Smith) Walton. On Jan. 29, 1920, she married
Ora B. McClain; he died May 4, 1981.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert T. McClain, and Jerry N. McClain, both of Nevada; five daughters, Mrs. Paul (Dorotha) Lininger of Sycamore, Jean Miller of Upper Sandusky, Mrs. James (Mary) Powers of Bucyrus, Mrs. Gene (Ann) Conrad of Upper Sandusky, and Mrs. Dan (Carolyn) Bogard of Nevada; a brother, Robert Walton of Upper Sandusky; a sister, Fonda Garrigues of Nevada; 29 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; and 18 great great grandchildren.
Preceded in death were: a son, James; a grandchild; a great grandchild; four brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. McClain attended Hard Scrabble One Room School House, a homemaker and former Sunday School Teacher, she chaired many church suppers. Memberships included: Nevada United Methodist Church; Colonel Wm. Crawford Chapter DAR; Nevada Grange; and Wyandot Co. Garden Club. She enjoyed sewing, hook & latch rug, quilting, flowers & vegetable gardening.
The Rev. Beryl Baum and the Rev. Cathy Wirth will officiate the 1:30 p.m. Saturday service at Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be at Nevada cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

L. Ardella Russell, 68, of 10973 W. SR 18, Fostoria, died at 8 a.m., Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.
She was born Oct. 12, 1930, in Fostoria to William and Josephine (Depinet) Filliater.
On June 10, 1950, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., she married
Kenneth R. Russell, who died April 30, 1994.
Surviving are one son, Gregory G. Russell of Fostoria; two daughters: Pamela A. Russell of Findlay, Mrs. Steve (Debra) Huff of Columbus; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers: F. Norbert Filliater of Fostoria, Donald Filliater of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters: Mrs. Walter (Helen) Feasel of Fremont, Mrs. Jack (Wilma) Ziegman of Orrville, and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Colman of Fostoria.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a brother, William Filliater; two sisters: Regina Schlachter and Geraldine Canterbury.
Mrs. Russell was a 1948 graduate of St. Wendelin High School; a homemaker and bookkeeper. She had memberships in St. Wendelin Catholic Church; Catawba West Harbor Yacht Club; Fostoria Elks Club; and Women of the Moose, Port Clinton.
Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Wendelin Catholic Church, with burial in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake Service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Bridge Home Health & Hospice of Findlay, the St. Wendelin Church, or the Oncology Unit of Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

She was born on March 15, 1913, to Kirby A. and Rena (Beatley) Tewalt, and she never married

Surviving are four nieces; one nephew; and one sister Mrs. Blaine (Mildred) Miller of Grosse Ile, Mich.
She was preceded in death by a brother James Tewalt and a sister Mary C. Tewalt.
She graduated from Tiffin Columbian in 1931 and Tiffin University, was a retired Executive Secretary from Basic, a member of the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church where she was active in all church organizations, Eastern Star Chapter #189, Union Grange and formerly bowled in a league.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 today at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Angel officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery.
Visiting hours were yesterday as was the Eastern Star Service.
Gertrude Lousie Tromans

Gertrude Louise Tromans, 90, of 539 Hedges St., died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital, Tiffin.
Mrs. Tromans was born Dec. 18, 1908, in Meadville, Pa., to Stanley and Jessie (Whipple) Brown.
On June 20, 1931, in Meadville, Pa., she married
D. Russell Tromans, who died Dec. 16, 1961.
Surviving are a son Ronald Tromans of Sunrise, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Peg) Jacobson of Tiffin; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two sisters: Donna Egensberger and Kathryn Saefkow.
She retired as a licensed practical nurse at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, and also did private-duty nursing. She was a member of the Old Trinity Episcopal Church, Past President of the Altar Guild at the Church, a Red Cross volunteer, a F.I.S.H volunteer and an avid bingo, card and crossword puzzle player.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in the Old Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Trumble officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
Walter L. Gassner

Walter L. Gassner Sr., 79, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at his residence at 1742 S. CR 23, Republic.
He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Seneca County, the son of Edward O. and Hulda O. (Pearson) Gassner. His wife, Patricia A. (Dalton) Gassner, whom he married
June 24, 1944, in St. Ann's Church, Fremont, survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Walter L. Gassner Jr. of Bellevue, Francis E. Gassner of Green Springs and Donald J. Gassner of Attica; four daughters, Mrs. Francisco (Mary H.) Ramon of Bellevue, Mrs. Gene (Janet) Crouse of Willard, Mrs. Larry (Susan) Mackling and Mrs. Mike (Shirley) Hufford, both of Sycamore; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Gassner of Fremont; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Kummerer of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Gassner; and a granddaughter, Patty.
Mr. Gassner, a farmer, retired from the Swan Rubber Co. in Bucyrus.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Attica.
The Rev. Joseph Szybka will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends will be received at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Home, Attica, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
