James E. Cross
Swan Rubber Co. retiree

James E. Cross, 70, of 141 Penn Ave., Bucyrus, died at 2:52 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, in Bucyrus Community Hospital. He had been seriously ill for the past two years.

He was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Fulerton, Ky., to Oscar Cross and Julia May (Robinson) Cross Barber. His wife, Eleanor (Hart) Cross, whom he married May 29, 1948, survives.

Other survivors include: six children, Ronald, James K. and Connie Cross, all of Bucyrus, John and David Cross, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jamie Barger, also of Bucyrus; five grandchildren and a great-grandson; a brother, Willard Cross of Bucyrus; and a sister, Mrs. Donald (Katie) Burling of Bucyrus.

An infant son, James Randall, and a great-grandson, Austin James, are deceased.

Mr. Cross, who had attended Bucyrus High School, took a health retirement in 1979 from the Swan Rubber Co. after 32 years of employment.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he was a life member of VFW Post 1078.

Capt. John Nagle of the Salvation Army will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association, in care of the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, 215 N. Walnut St., Bucyrus, OH 44820.

Kenneth Sterling Koon
Licensed professional engineer

Kenneth Sterling Koon, 90, of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 12:23 a.m. Monday, July 12, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital, following a short illness.

He was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to William and Nettie (Shetterly) Koon. On Aug. 18, 1934, in Sodus Point, N.Y., he married Flora Shafer. She died Dec. 30, 1998.

Survivors include: four daughters, Susan Rhodes of Fostoria, Sheril Green of Rapid City, S.D., Joan Koon of Johnson City, N.Y., and Ann Larkins of Marietta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A licensed professional engineer, Mr. Koon worked for IBM Corp. in New York State for 36 years, first in Endicott then Owego. He retired as a quality assurance service project manager from IBM's Federal Systems Division in 1969, after receiving many honors including a U.S patent in 1952, relative to Electro-Mechanical Card Sensing Devices.

He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, New York Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

He held project engineering positions at IBM and was inducted into the IBM Quarter Century Club.

He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Sigma Rho Tan Fraternity, Triangle Society, Scabbard and Blade (national honorary military society), ROTC and the Senior Engineering Society.

He served as a colonel in the U.S. Army Signal Corps 1941-46 in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Mr. Koon served more than 30 years on Maine-Endwell School Board and was a member of the board of deacons, an elder and a clerk of session for Northminster Presbyterian Church, Endwell. He also supported his wife in her many volunteer activities, becoming a member of Girl Scouts of America. He was active in the Maine Kiwanis, Endwell Rotary and National Amateur Printers Association.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. July 31 in Northminster Presbyterian Church, Endwell, where calling hours will be 10-11 a.m. that day.

The Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth E. Enders
Former Bloomville resident

Former Bloomville resident Ruth E. Enders, 85, of 7 W. Market St., Apt. 306, died Monday morning, July 12, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, following a brief illness.

She was born May 20, 1914, in Reed Township, Seneca County, to Theodore and Nellie (Marx) Dentinger. On Oct. 31, 1935, in Tiffin, she married Robert W. Enders. He died Jan. 7, 1985.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Martha) Hoffman of Tiffin; two sons, Robert Jr. Enders of Bloomville and William A Enders of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Joan Ahlefeld, on Dec. 5, 1994.

A lifelong resident of Seneca County, Mrs. Enders was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the VFW Auxiliary of Green Springs and Caufield Post 434 Ladies Auxiliary of Bloomville.

An avid card player, she had been employed as a barmaid at the Avenue Bar in Tiffin for 12 years.

Services in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 SR 19 S., Bloomville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. William Rose officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation at the funeral home is 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

William J. Regan
Former heavy equipment operator

Word has been received of the death of William J. Regan, 79, who died Sunday, July 11, 1999, in Sebring, Fla., where he had resided since 1984.

He was born in Johnstown, Pa.

Surviving are a son, Robert Regan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a grandchild.

Mr. Regan, formerly a heavy equipment operator, served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 504th Parachute Infantry "504 Devils."

Formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, he was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Sebring.

The Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, 2501 Fairmount Drive, Sebring, Fla., are in charge of arrangements.

Lola M. Owings
Tiffin homemaker

Lola M. Owings, 84, formerly of 175 Melmore St., died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, July 12, 1999, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born in West Union Feb. 16, 1915, to Oscar C. and Rosella (McNeilan) Rankin. Her husband, Walter Owings, died Feb. 14, 1965.

Survivors include: a brother, Oscar Rankin Jr. of Galion; a sister, Mrs. David (Evelyn) Osborne of Tiffin; and several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Lucille Rupert and Frances Osborne, also are deceased.

Mrs. Owings, a homemaker, was a member of the Protestant faith.

The Rev. John Teeters will be the officiant at the 2 p.m. Thursday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be noon Thursday until time of the service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Frank Wohlgamuth
Rural Carey resident

Frank Wohlgamuth, 85 of 11225 Seneca CR 59, Carey, died in the Eaglewood Care Center, Carey, at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 1999. Arrangements are pending at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey.

Senior Airman Brian O. Meese
U.S. Air Force electric specialist

Senior Airman Brian O. Meese, 25, of CR 260, Clyde, died Monday, July 12, 1999, in Peoria, Ill.

He was born in Sandusky, March 6, 1974, to John W. and Donna (Forthofer) Meese. They survive in Clyde.

Other survivors include: two brothers, Darin Meese of Fremont and Dean Meese of Clyde; a sister, Lori Meese-Morgan of Bucyrus; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, James and Thelma Forthofer Barnes of Avon; paternal grandmother, Ruth E. Meese of Clyde; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Oliver G. Forthofer and John W. Meese Sr.

Senior Airman Meese, a 1993 Clyde High School graduate, was a electric specialist, serving in the U.S. Air Force for the past six years. He also had served in Saudia Arabia.

Services will be in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Betty Ann (Cutcher) Dymond
Mother of area residents

Betty Ann (Cutcher) Dymond, 67, formerly of Port Clinton Road, Fremont, resident of Countryside Continuing Care Center, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at Fremont Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Fremont to Joseph and Hattie (LaBine) Cutcher. On June 9, 1951, she married Charles Dymond. He survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Charles V. Dymond II of Tucson, Ariz., Carl "Joe" Dymond of Tiffin and Michael D. Dymond of Bettsville; three daughters, Lou Ann Howard of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Carol Parker of Fremont and Cheryl Clark of Lawton, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; an infant daughter, Susie Jo; two brothers, Joseph and James Cutcher; and three sisters, Luella Pfefferle, Lucille Gray and Teresa Cutcher.

Mrs. Dymond was a 1950 graduate of Ross High School and a homemaker. She worked as a cook for the Head Start Program when the program first started. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; Presbyterian Women's Association; and Girl Scout Leader for many years. She loved to quilt and enjoyed crafts.

The Rev. Hale Mills will officiate the 2 p.m. Sunday service at the First Presbyterian Church.

Visitation hours are one hour before the services at the church.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes or Easter Seals.

Arrangements are being handled by Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont.

L. Paul Yeager
Tiffin Glass worker

L. Paul Yeager, 60, of 3494 SR 53, Tiffin, died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 1999. He was born Feb. 19, 1939, to Enoch and Susie M. (Griffith) Yeager. His mother survives in West Virginia. On Dec. 6, 1976, he married Schareline Gottfried. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Dennis Yeager of Grafton, Ohio; two daughters, Tammy Yeager of Bellevue and Lori Yeager of Tiffin; two brothers, Lynwood Yeager and Tim Yeager, both of Grafton, W.Va.; five sisters, Barbara Jean Miller of New York, Donna Green of Paw Paw, W.Va., Linda Conley of Florida, Sally Yeager of Tennessee and Shirley Yeager of Georgia; and a granddaughter.

Preceding him in death was a sister, Ruby.

Mr. Yeager graduated from Grafton High School, Grafton, W.Va. and Terra Community College in 1985. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he worked as a foot setter for 15 years with Tiffin Glass and he also worked for the Budd Co. A member of the United Auto Workers, and a collector of glass, he also enjoyed deer hunting.

The Rev. Gary Halstead will officiate the private graveside services. Burial will be at Bethel cemetery.

Visitation will be private. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice.

Edwin E. Gottfried
Area resident

Edwin E. Gottfried, 97, of CR 107, Upper Sandusky, and Wyandot County Nursing Home for the last 15 months, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 1999. He was born June 10, 1902, to Christian E. and Mary (Shilling) Gottfried. On March 1, 1923, he married Grace L. Newell at the home of the brides parents. She survives.

Other survivors include: five sons, Craig E. Gottfried of Monteview, Idaho, Larry L., James M and Ray D. Gottfried, all of of Upper Sandusky, and Paul F. Gottfried of Johnstown; two daughters, Jeanne Ann Cole of Gold Hill, Ore., and Mrs. Paul (Rita J.) Eippert of Mineral Ridge; also raised in the family was Lynn E. Horne of San Mateo, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: three brothers, Walter W., Fred V., and Rueben Gottfried; five sisters, Clara Mae Clabaugh, Lydia Deyson, Frieda Ballentine, Edna Binau and Elma Kappuff; and two great-granddaughters.

Mr. Gottfried attended the 4 Corners one-room schoolhouse in rural Upper Sandusky. He helped build and manage the Carey Cooperative Food Locker for 10 years and served on the board of directors. He did carpenter work for Lester Sweigard Contracting, then continued self-employed carpenter work until he retired at the age of 76. He was a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church and member of the: Wyandot County Farm Bureau for over 60 years; National Grange Farm Bureau Advisory Council Group, and served as president for two years of the State Frozen Food Locker Association, and three years as executive secretary; member of the Rod and Gun Club for the past 24 years. He enjoyed fishing, reading, Westerns, gardening and playing Euchre.

The Rev. Lenn Geiger will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday services at Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be at Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County 4-H Endowment Fund, or to the Upper Sandusky High School F.F.A., or to Wyandot County Hospice.

Mary K. Ekleberry
Former Old Fort resident

Mary K. Ekleberry, 80, of Ruffing Family Care Center, formerly St. Catherine's Nursing Home, CR 6, Tiffin, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, July 16, 1999. She had been at the Care Center since December 1998.

Mrs. Ekleberry was born in Seneca County Oct. 15, 1918, to Homer Wise and Ruth (Loose) Zimmerman.

She married Darrel F. Ekleberry in 1938. He survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Marvin Ekleberry of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Helen) Eaton of Republic and Joan Delp of Bradenton, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Homer Ray Zimmerman.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Eugene L. Zimmerman, and a grandchild.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Fort Seneca Community United Church of Christ and the Kum Join Us Farm Women's Club.

Services for Mrs. Ekleberry will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barry Bordenkircher officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Union cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Heart Association, the Ruffing Family Care Center or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Joe I. Dye
Upper Sandusky resident

Joe I. Dye, 78, of 428 Greenview St., Upper Sandusky, for the past 30 years died at 10:40 a.m. Friday, July 16, 1999, at Winebrenner Village in Findlay.

Mr. Dye was born Aug. 1, 1920, in Paulding to Joseph B. and Toria (Ankney) Dye.

On Aug. 16, 1946, he married Clara M. Zielke in Paulding. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Joe F. Dye; and two grandchildren, Joe C. and Lara M. Dye, all of Findlay.

He graduated in 1938 from Paulding High School; received a certified underwriters degree from Huebner College in Pennsylvania; and served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.

He had been a tool and die maker for Cadillac Gauge in Detroit and also for Weatherhead Co. of Antwerp. In 1956 he became a sales representative for Nationwide Insurance Co. and later a district sales manager serving in the Lebanon and Cincinnati areas, retiring in Upper Sandusky in 1983.

Mr. Dye was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky; Widow's Son's Masonic Lodge 571-Paulding; wintered in Bradenton and Sarasota, Fla.; and enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie and in the Gulf of Mexico.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jerry Elsholz and the Rev. Charles Steward officiating. There will be a Masonic graveside memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Live Oak cemetery, Paulding.

Visiting hours are 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shriner's Hospital Burn Unit or a charity of the donor's choice.
