Helen K. Smith, 92, formerly of 282 Jefferson St., died at 10:23 a.m. Saturday June 19, 1999, in Autumnwood Care Center, where she had resided since Sept. 19, 1995.
She was born in Tiffin, Jan. 8, 1907, to David Samuel and Elizabeth Louise (Stagmyer) Kiesel. On Sept. 3, 1929, in Tiffin, she married
Herman John Smith, who died May 11, 1948.
Survivors include: a nephew, Kenneth J. Estep of Rural Tiffin; five step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John (Evelyn D. (Estep) of rural Tiffin.
A step-son, Herman Raymond Smith and a step-daughter, Marjorie A. Estep, are deceased.
Mrs. Smith, a lifelong resident of Tiffin, had been employed at Hubach's Dairy, Fleck's Dye Shop and W.C. Crouse Wallpaper and Paint Store.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the National Daughters of America Home Council 44.
Graveside services, with the Rev. David M. Culp officiating, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fairmont cemetery.
Friends may call at Turner-Engle Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Tuesday until departure to the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Pauline P. McConnell
Former Flat Rock homemaker
Pauline P. McConnell, 81, formerly of Flat Rock, died Saturday June 26, 1999, in the Bellevue Hospital, following a two-year illness.
She was born in Seneca County, Dec. 22, 1917, to William Neil Sr. and Alta Mae (Husted) Shellhammer. On Dec. 5, 1936, in St. Jacobs Church, Republic, she married
Archie R. "Pat" McConnell, who preceded her in death June 2, 1991.
Survivors include: four sons, Robert L. McConnell Sr. of Bellevue, William A. McConnell Sr. of Flat Rock, Thomas E. McConnell of Clyde and Kenneth A. McConnell, also of Bellevue; two daughters, Mrs. Richard J. (Patty M.) Henney and Mrs. Philip M. (Loretta I.) Meacham, both of Bellevue; 27 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, William Neil Shellhammer Jr. of Attica.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Marion A. Shellhammer.
A homemaker, Mrs. McConnell was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue.
She also was a member of the Ladies of the Moose 238, Bellevue, where she had served as senior regent and star recorder.
The Rev. David R. Wietelmann will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in St. Jacob's cemetery, Republic.
Visitation at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, will be 2-9 p.m. Monday.

Lauretta Mae Schneider
Bellevue G.E. retiree/beautician
Lauretta Mae Schneider, 75, of Seneca CR 29, Bellevue, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Tiffin, to Edward and Anna (Schluter) Fleming. On Feb. 22, 1945, she married
Gerald B. Schneider, who survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Howard (Leslie Ann) Fleck Jr. of Corrales, N.M., and Jill Marie Anstaett and Marilee Elizabeth Crofts, both of Columbus; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Louis (Berniece) Schneider of Bellevue; and a brother, Edward J. Fleming of Norwalk.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, Catherine Stein and Margaret Missler, and a brother, Vincent Fleming.
Mrs. Schneider, a beautician, also worked in the lab at Bellevue General Electric until her retirement in 1985.
She attended St. Joseph School in Tiffin, graduated in 1941 from Attica High School and attended the Cleveland Academy of Cosmetology.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Marywood, and its Altar and Rosary Society.
The Rev. John Nagele will be the celebrant at the 10 a.m. Saturday Funeral Mass in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation at the Auxter-Groff Funeral Home, Bellevue, will be 2-5 p.m. Friday, with the rosary recited at 4:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Building Fund.
Margaret M. Dowell
Rural Vickery homemaker
Margaret M. Dowell, 71, of Sandusky CR 254, Vickery, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, in the Karrington House, Fremont.
She was born March 3, 1928, in West Virginia, to Mike and Mary Vranish. Her husband, Chester Dowell, whom she married
May 21, 1946, died April 17, 1993.
Survivors include: two sons, Lesly Sam Dowell of Utah and Grover Michael Dowell of Fremont; a daughter, Dinah Lee Dowell of Chicago; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Ada Ard of Nancy, Ky., and Helen Bathurst of Summerset, Ky.
Two sisters, Mary Romanowicz and Kathern Eberlin, and three brothers, Mike, John and Louie Vranish, also are deceased.
Mrs. Dowell, a homemaker, received her education in West Virginia. She was a member of the Riley Garden Club.
Services in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Catherine Schibler-Keegan officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation at the funeral home will be noon-2 p.m. Friday.

Clara B. Lucius

Clara B. Lucius, 79, 7 W. Market St., died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in St. Francis Home.
She was born in Bascom, Feb. 10, 1920, to Cecil and Bernice (Smith) Glick. On July 23, 1938, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married
Edward D. Lucius. He died July 27, 1996.
Surviving are a sister, Lula Wingart of Bascom.
A homemaker, Mrs. Lucius was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The Rev. William Rose will be the officiant at the Tuesday private graveside service in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.
There will be no visitation. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
Robert G. Baxter
U.S. Air Force Retired
Robert G. Baxter, 74, died at 7 p.m. Monday, June 28, 1999, at his residence at 6457 Oak Shore Drive, Panama City, Fla.
He was born in Cromers Nov. 20, 1924, to William and Hazel Emma (Workley) Baxter. His wife, Sulbiye Selma (Kaskar) Baxter, whom he married
July 4, 1948, in Ankara, Turkey, survives.
Survivors also include: a son, Robert George Baxter Jr. of Panama City; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Virginia) Kelly of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Philip (Sandra) Brown of Abilene, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Baxter Jr. of Fostoria; and three sisters, Mrs. Arden (Jean) Cleveland of Green Springs, Mrs. Margaret Shellhammer of Cromers and Bernice Gottfried of Tiffin.
Mr. Baxter retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief warrant officer, after 29 years of service. He also was employed at International Service Companies.
Formerly of Indianapolis, where he had lived for two years, he attended Old Fort High School and Officer's Candidate School and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shiloh cemetery, with the Rev. James Mussman officiating.
Visitation at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home will be at 6-8 p.m. Friday and at the Shiloh United Methodist Church at 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

Bobby C. Benavidez, 14, 1662 E. CR 38, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, in a Sandusky County auto accident. Arrangements are pending at the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville.
Garfield Tyree

Garfield Tyree, 79, of Whitesburg, Ky., died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, July 2, 1999.
He is survived by: his wife, Ollie (Brown), a son Lonnie Tyree; two daughters, Wilma Webb and Wanda Stidman; a brother, the Rev. Frank Tyree of Clyde; and a sister, Mary Tyree of Whitesburg.
Mr. Tyree was a World War II army veteran and had been employed as a coal miner in Whitesburg.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Everidge Funeral Home, Whitesburg, Ky.
Sister M. Leocadia Omlor
Sister of St. Francis
Sister M. Leocadia Omlor, 95, of the Sisters of St. Francis, 200 St. Francis Ave., died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 1999, in St. Francis Home.
She was born April 6, 1904, in Fremont, to Vincent and Clara (Wilhelm) Omlor.
Two brothers, Alfred and A.J. Omlor, are deceased.
Sister Leocadia was received into the Order of St. Francis June 27, 1922; professed her first vows July 2, 1924, and her final vows Aug. 28, 1929.
Over the years, she served in Fort Jennings, Blakeslee, New Washington, Toledo, Landeck and after 1961, Tiffin, where she worked at St. Francis Home as a supervisor and kitchen aide until 1982.
The Rev. Patrick Rohen will be the celebrant at the 4 p.m. Tuesday Funeral Mass in St. Francis Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.
Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Convent Chapel, where a wake service will be at 2:30 p.m.

Natella O. Lanker
Porcelain Products retiree
Natella O. Lanker, 88, of 205 Dow St., Carey, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 1999, in the Eaglewood Care Center, Carey.
She was born May 1, 1911, in Kenton, to Ray and Lelia (Emmons) Oglesbee. On Oct. 3, 1932, she married
Ralph Lanker. They were later divorced. He died in 1966.
Surviving are: a son, Edmond Eugene Lanker of Carey; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A granddaughter and two brothers, Donald and Arthur Oglesbee, are deceased.
Mrs. Lanker, a 70-year member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carey and a member of its United Methodist Women, retired in 1963 from Porcelain Products in Carey, after 25 years of employment.
She was a former member of the Rebecca Lodge, Carey.
The Rev. James R. Sharrett will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-9 p.m. today.

George P. Sherick

George P. Sherick, 67, of Girton, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 1999.
He was born in Powell, Wyo., Nov. 7, 1937, to the late William D. and Gertrude A. (Johnson) Sherick. In 1971, in Fostoria, he married
Carol Hire and they were divorced.
Surviving are: a brother, William B. Sherick of Helena; and two sisters, Mrs. Duane (Laura) Jurrus of Fostoria and Mrs. Dale (Barbara) Yoder of Kansas, Ohio.
A sister, Nancilee Crawford, is deceased.
Mr. Sherick, a 1949 Fostoria High School graduate, retired from the Autolite Corp. (now AlliedSignal) in Fostoria after 30 years of employment.
An avid fisherman and hunter, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Services in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. H.T. Hill officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.
Omer "Joe" Cassidy
Retired millwright
Omer "Joe" Cassidy, 73, of 2956 S. SR 587, New Riegel, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born in Leopold, Ind., the son of William Edgar and Mary Ellen (Peter) Cassidy. His wife, Helen R. (Scherger) Cassidy, whom he married
April 12, 1947, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, survives in New Riegel.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Norbert Cassidy of Tiffin and James Cassidy of Fostoria; and five sisters, Mrs. Robert (Connie) Steinmetz of Pemberville, Mrs. Franklin (Bernice) Holman, Mrs. Donald (Irene) Holman and Miss Marjorie Cassidy, all of Fostoria and Mrs. Eugene (Rosalie) Holman of Findlay.
A brother, Mathias Cassidy, is deceased.
Mr. Cassidy, who attended Arcadia School, retired as a millwright in 1986 from AlliedSignal, Fostoria, after 39 years.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, New Riegel American Legion and the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1197, Fostoria.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he also was a member of the Fostoria Vagabond camping group and a former member of the square dance group "Swinging Satellites."
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leonard Kistler C.PP.S. as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m. followed by American Legion memorial services.
