Dale L. Rife
Retired GE employee
Dale L. Rife, 67, of 220 E. Bigelow St., Upper Sandusky, died at 12 p.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, in Wyandot Manor of Upper Sandusky.
He was born April 18, 1932, in Salem Township, Wyandot County, to Harry and Mabel (Mann) Rife. His mother survives.
Also surviving are: three sons, Todd and Jeffrey of Tiffin, Scott of Lexington, S.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Vicky) Babcock of Sycamore, Nancy Rohrbacher of Fremont and Lynelle Rife of Tiffin; and 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Rife was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a laborer at the GE plant in Tiffin until 1987; a member of VFW Post 2842 and AmVets Post 777, both in Upper Sandusky; and the American Legion Post 344 in Carey.
The Rev. Lenn Geiger will officiate at the graveside services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky. The military graveside rites will be performed by the local veterans organizations.
Arrangements are being handled by Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

The memorial service for Anza F. Hammer, 133 Warren Ave., who died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at the Church of Christ, 99 Cottage Ave. Burial will be at Fairmont cemetery, with private graveside services.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. May 21 at Autumnwood Care Center for Elaine Nagle, 670 SR 18, who died of cancer May 5.
She was a social worker at Autumnwood.
Rita R. Berrier
Rural Tiffin homemaker
Rita R. Berrier, 69, died Monday, May 17, 1999, at her home at 1510 N. SR 101.
She was born in Fremont Jan. 7, 1929, to the late Robert and Rosemary (Darr) Miles. On June 5, 1950, in Indiana, she married
Benjamin J. Berrier. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Richard, Donald, Thomas and Ken Berrier, all of Tiffin; three daughters, Patricia Kerschner, Cheryl Zellner and Phyllis Lucius, all of Tiffin; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Miles of Fremont; and three sisters, Betty Metz and Margaret Frey, both of Fremont, and Mary Ann Williamson of St. Joseph, Mich.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, Charles and Kevin Berrier, and a brother, James Miles.
Mrs. Berrier, a homemaker, graduated from Fremont Ross High School. She lived most of her life in the Seneca and Sandusky counties area.
Services in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Betty A. Brickner

Betty A. Brickner, 74, of 6649 W. CR 592, Fostoria, died there at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 17, 1999. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Liberty Township. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home. Further arrangements are pending.
Frederick E. Young
Auto/towing service employee
Frederick E. Young, 56, of 6919 TH 104, Upper Sandusky, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 1999, in Marion General Hospital.
He was born in Bucyrus Oct. 24, 1942, to Lawrence N. and Margaret K. (Weaver) Young. His mother survives in Upper Sandusky.
Survivors also include: four children, Mrs. Chadd (Lisa) Myers of Columbus, Brad E. Young and Dana Mechling, both of Grove City, and Darin L. Young of London; six grandchildren; a brother, Neal E. Young of Upper Sandusky; and a sister, Mrs. William F. (Emily) Stewart Jr. of Findlay.
His father is deceased.
Mr. Young, a 1960 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, most recently had been employed by Bill Schoenberger Auto Service and Towing, Upper Sandusky.
He also worked as a route driver for 7-Up for 17 years and at the former Stubbs Garage as a car salesman, both of Upper Sandusky, and as a delivery man for both Mrs. Smith's Pie and Mid West Snacks, both of Columbus.
Mr. Young served in the Army National Guard for six years, enjoyed old cars and was a former member of the Upper Sandusky Jaycees.
Sister Barbara Jean Miller will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation at the funeral home is 6-9 p.m. today.

Kenneth Pingle
Assistant Fostoria postmaster
Kenneth Pingle, 82, of 509 Short Elm St., Fostoria, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 2:43 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 1999.
He was born in McComb June 8, 1916, to Grover and Jeniveve (Zuber) Pingle. His wife, Inez (Snyder) Pingle, whom he married
Feb. 20, 1938, in Fostoria, survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are two sons, Karl K. Pingle of Mountain View, Calif., and Rex E. Pingle of Annapolis, Md.; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Pingle of Denver, Colo.; and two sisters, Constance Jones of Findlay and Mary Pullins of Greenville.
Four brothers, Frank, Robert, Clarence and Harry Pingle, and a sister, Kathryn Hobart, also are deceased.
Mr. Pingle, who started the free Income tax service for elderly and low income in Fostoria, had been employed as assistant postmaster at the U.S. Post Office in Fostoria, where he had worked for 40 years.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fostoria, where he served as elder and deacon and Sunday school treasurer, he also worked at the Sharing Kitchen and drove for Meals on Wheels, both in Fostoria.
He also served as treasurer at the Bureau of Concern in Fostoria for many years.
The Rev. R. Edson Reed will conduct the 2 p.m. Thursday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Emmit D. Lowe
G.E. retiree/skilled glass cutter
Emmit D. Lowe, 76, 17 Morningside Drive, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, May 17, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where he had been a patient since May 10.
He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., May 28, 1922, to Lloyd E. and Maggie Mae (Duty) Lowe. On June 14, 1953, in Tiffin, he married
Margaret "Peggy" Blakeman, who survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Darrel F. Lowe of Ashtabula; and two grandchildren, Alexandria and Jacob Lowe.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Clyde and Eugene Lowe, and a sister, Roxanne Kirby.
Mr. Lowe, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from General Electric.
Also a skilled glass cutter at the former Tiffin Glass House, he was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Formerly of Morgantown, W.Va., he had resided in the Tiffin area for more than 50 years.
He also coached Little League ball in the Tiffin Recreation League.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospital of Tiffin or the church.
Roxie (Yates) Osterholt
Tucson, Ariz., homemaker
Roxie (Yates) Osterholt, 96, of 3345 E. Hawthorn, Tucson, Ariz., died at her residence at 7:05 p.m. Friday, April 30, 1999.
She was born in West Millgrove Jan. 1, 1903, to J.C. and Nebraska (Beavers) Yates. Her husband, George Osterholt, is deceased.
Survivors include: a daughter, Louise Hemmeter of Tucson; three grandsons, Jon, Rick and David Hemmeter; and two great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Mrs. Osterholt had resided in the Tucson area for 49 years.
Memorial services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery, West Millgrove.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 10 a.m. Thursday until time of the service.

Earl Kurtz, 67, 30 Riverlea Park, died Monday, May 17, 1999, in the Heartland of Browning Nursing Home, Waterville. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.
John A. Vollmar
Father of area residents
John A. Vollmar, 72, of Leonard Place, Fremont, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in The Bellevue Hospital.
He was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Fremont, to Allen and Marian (Schekelhoff) Vollmar. His wife, Virginia "Ginny" (Holland) Vollmar, whom he married
Nov. 3, 1954, in Angola, Ind., died Dec. 25, 1992.
Survivors include: two sons, Randy and Steven Vollmar, both of Fremont; three daughters, Sherry Whipkey of Clyde, Tonya Conner of Republic and Kimberly McClanahan of Bloomville; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a son, Terry Vollmar, and a granddaughter, Desirae Dickman.
Mr. Vollmar, a Union 2230 carpenter, had been employed by Mosser Construction, retiring in 1989.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, Green Springs; American Legion Post 121, Clyde Eagles, Moose Lodge 1286 and DADS of V.F.W. Post 2947, Fremont.
The Rev. Paul Tyree will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde, where military graveside services will be provided by the American Legion and VFW.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where Clyde Eagles Services will be at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Sandusky County.
Earl Thomas Kurtz
Automotive salesman
Earl Thomas Kurtz, 67, 30 Riverlea Park, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 17, 1999, in the Heartland of Browning, Waterville.
He was born in Tiffin July 2, 1931, to Linus G. and Nellie M. (Hammer) Kurtz. His mother survives in Tiffin. His wife, Florence O. (Birmely) Kurtz, whom he married
June 24, 1951, in Deunquat, also survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Kevin L. Kurtz of Wharton, Kendall L. Kurtz of New Riegel and Kris L. Kurtz of Tiffin; a brother, Donald L. Kurtz of Melmore; five grandsons and a granddaughter.
His father preceded him in death.
Mr. Kurtz, a 1949 Columbian High School graduate, was employed by Coppus Motors for the past 36 years, where he was a Mercedes service manager and salesman.
He served as a PFC in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict (1951-53) in Germany.
A member of the Air Plane Owners Association, Mr. Kurtz owned a private plane.
The Rev. Frank A. Murd will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Friday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

James Edwin Haudenshild
Former Tiffin resident
Word has been received of the death of former Tiffin resident James Edwin Haudenshild, 62, of Ridgeland, S.C., who died Friday, April 30, 1999.
He was born in Lorain July 10, 1936, to the late Nevin R. and Esther L. (Renninger) Haudenshild.
Survivors include: five sons, James Jr. and Theodore Haudenshild, both of Hawaii, Rodger Haudenshild of California, John E. Haudenshild of Fostoria and Jamie R. Haudenshild of Tiffin; two daughters, Lydia Weber of Florida and Deborah Coronel of Hawaii; 23 grandchildren; five brothers, Nevil R. Haudenshild of Oregon, Richard Haudenshild of South Carolina, Howard B. Haudenshild of Oregon, Phillip Haudenshild of Ohio and Rodger Haudenshild, also of Oregon; and seven sisters, Mary L. Kirkwood of Maryland, Dorris J. Hensinger of Oregon, Betty J. Brown, Shirley A. Wertz and Beverly A Taylor, all of Ohio, Cindy K. Haudenshild of California and Bonnie Schuck of Colorado.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Ronald L. and Larry W. Haudenshild; and a sister, Lorretta R. Brown.
The body has been cremated and services are pending.

Betty A. Brickner

Betty A. Brickner, 74, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 17, 1999, at her home at 6649 W. CR 592, Fostoria.
She was born July 26, 1924, in Bloomville, to Arthur and Eulalia (Lawrence) Moyer. On Aug. 29, 1945, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married
Urban Brickner. He died Feb. 6, 1993.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Connie) Coppus and Patricia Schreiner, both of Tiffin and Mrs. Greg (Elaine) Ozarzak of Sylvania; four brothers, Robert, Charles and Richard Moyer, all of Tiffin and Don Moyer of Fremont; three sisters, Mrs. Jean Katzenmeyer of Tiffin, Mrs. Glenna Winters of Cary, N.C., and Mrs. Dorothy Durfee of Peoria, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a sister, Marguerite Moyer; a brother, Lloyd Moyer; and an infant brother.
Mrs. Brickner, a 1943 graduate of Columbian High School, was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Liberty Township, and its Rosary Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Andrew Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Bruning as celebrant. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, where a wake service will be at 7:15 p.m.
