Albert R. Smith
Former RR Donnelley employee
Former Attica resident, Albert R. Smith, 58, 302 Elm St., died Sunday morning April 25, 1999, in St. Catherine's Care Center of Tiffin, after an illness of several months.
He was born May 5, 1940, in Bloomville, to the late Charles E. and Margaret (Schnyder) Smith. He had never married
.
Survivors include: two brothers, John and George Smith, both of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Holmer of Republic; two half-sisters, Carol and Ann Marie, both of Tiffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith, a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany, worked in the bindery department at R.R. Donnelley and Son, Willard, retiring in 1989.
He grew up in Bloomville and later moved to Attica where he resided until moving to Tiffin in 1994.
Services will be announced at a later date by the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.
Richard Keith Lepard
Retired Attica businessman, mayor
Richard Keith Lepard, 82, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at his home at 209 E. Tiffin St., Attica.
He was born Nov. 27, 1916, on a farm west of Attica on CR 56, to Ira and Jennie (Alter) Lepard.
In 1942, he married
Betty Burkhardt. She survives, along with twin children, Richard James Lepard of New Washington and Jennie Hoyles of rural Attica; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Bloom of Virginia and Ruth Washburn of California; and two brothers, Clarence Lepard of Pennsylvania and J. Russell Lepard of Louisiana.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Ransom and Charles; and two sisters, Mary and Emma.
Mr. Lepard, a 1934 graduate of Attica High School, lived on the farm for 19 years. He worked for the A & P Tea Co. for 13 years, served as a clerk in the Attica Post Office for 20 years and was street commissioner for the Village of Attica for 11 years.
He served on the Boy Scout Committee for eight years and as scoutmaster for two years; served on the Board of Elections for 10 years; filled vacancies on village council several times; was elected to two terms on the board of public affairs and served as mayor for four years.
He also drove school bus for seven years; helped coach high school girls softball for 15 years; served on the Attica Fire Department for 29 years and as an EMT for 13 years.
Mr. Lepard served on the Library Board for 10 years; was a member of Gideons of Seneca County for 20 years; served as chaplain of both: American Legion Post 260 for 30 years and the Blanchard Valley Chapter of the Battle of the Bulge for one term.
He enjoyed playing and coaching softball and quit playing softball at the age of 77. He was still helping coach softball in 1998. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes and won his first tournament in 1960 and his last tournament in 1998. He also wrote a booklet about his experiences in World War II.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in Europe and came home with five battle stars: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes.
He attended the First Baptist Church of Attica, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, church trustee, trustee to the Ohio Baptist Convention for four years, and as moderator of the church for 25 years.
Services in the First Baptist Church will be at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Terry Alverson and the Rev. Paul Smith as co-officiants. Burial will be in Attica-Venice Township cemetery, where military graveside rites will be provided by the American Legion Post of Attica.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, Attica.

Jane F. Anderson
Assistant restaurant manager
Jane F. Anderson, 39, of 6187 CR 95, Carey, died in the Emergency Room of Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky, at 11:38 a.m. Monday April 26, 1999.
She was born in Bloomfield, Vt., June 22, 1959, to the late Herbert and Clyde Nahvella (Kimbrogh) Hurd. On Oct. 13, 1996, she married
Mark A. Anderson, who survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Matt Jurrus of Columbus; two daughters, Stephanie and Angie Jurrus, both of Fostoria; a stepson, Logan Anderson of Forest; a stepdaughter, Danielle Anderson of Forest; 11 brothers and sisters, Gail Baker of Cloma, Mich., Pauline Johnsey of Bloomfield, Vt., Velma Jurrus of Two Rivers, Wis., Clinton Hurd of Fulton, Miss., Everett Hurd of West Bridgewater, Mass., Earl Hurd of Cloma, Mich., Madaline Hart of Groveton, N.H., Marjorie Constant of Watervliet, Mich., Marion Powers of Clairfield, Tenn., Herbert Hurd of Fulton, Miss and Jay Collins of Newport, Vt.
A brother, Jack Hurd, also is deceased.
Mrs. Anderson, a graduate of Fostoria High School, was employed as assistant manager of Japan West in Findlay. She was an avid blues music fan.
The Rev. Brett A. Kelly will be the officiant at the 4 p.m. Friday service in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Esther L. Smith
Mother of Tiffin resident
Esther L. Smith, 92, of Clinton Street, Fremont, died in the Countryside Continuing Care Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1906, in Gratiot County, Mich., to John and Ida (Crowell) Longanbach. On March 18, 1933, in St. Louis, Mo., she married
George Smith. He died Aug. 9, 1989.
Survivors include: two sons, Martin G. Smith of Tiffin and Bruce R. Smith of Fremont; a daughter, Nora Jane MacDowell of Fremont; a brother, Paul Loganbach of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Gladys Boyd of Elma, Mich., Dorothy Acker of Midland, Mich.' and Bernice Mcgary of Van Nuys, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Margaret Smith; a sister, Iva Bebow; and three brothers, Walter, Leslie and Dale Longanbach.
Mrs. Smith, a member of St. John Lutheran Church, had been employed as a cook in the cafeteria at Fremont Ross High School 1959 until her retirement in 1973.
Services in the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary, Fremont, will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery, Kingsway.
Visitation at the funeral home is 3-7 p.m. today.

Glenn E. Frank
Farmer/furniture builder
Glenn E. Frank, 79, of 1005 TR 103, Upper Sandusky, where he was a life-long resident, died at 7:04 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
Born April 22, 1920, in Salem Township, Wyandot County, to Louis G. and Abbie F. (Koehler) Frank, he married
Rosemary Clabaugh in 1949. She died June 24, 1976.
Survivors include: a sister, Dorothy Binau of Findlay; a nephew, Lynn Clabaugh of Marion; a niece, Maureen Denney of Findlay; his close companion and special friend, Alice Kear of Carey; and two cousins.
A farmer, Mr. Frank also worked for the former Millington's and Clinton Karg in the building trade. In retirement, he built fine furniture and also rescued and repaired many old pieces.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for many years and attended North Salem Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Frank received his schooling at Salem School, rural Wyandot County, and enjoyed playing cards, woodworking and looking at nature.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jonathon Baker officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Emma M. Lewis
Centenarian, formerly of Fostoria
Emma M. Lewis, 102, of Ottawa River Road, Toledo, and formerly of East South Street, Fostoria, died at 4:14 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, in Riverside-Mercy Hospital, Toledo.
She was born Feb. 23, 1897, in Loudon Township, Seneca County, to Lewis E.F. and Catherine (Streng) Manecke. Her husband, Willard E. Lewis, whom she married
in March 1915, in Seneca County, died Oct. 2, 1937.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Conrad (Kathryn) Marriott of Toledo; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Harry W. Lewis; five brothers, Henry, Frank, George, Jacob and Harry Manecke; and a sister, Elizabeth Zuern.
Mrs. Lewis had been employed at the Ford Motor Co. in Fostoria, retiring in 1963, after 20 years.
A member of Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria, she was past president of its Circle of Equity and a member for 43 years of the Church Quilters Group.
The Rev. Todd Petty and the Rev. Cindy Hunter will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Friday service in Grace United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Walter W. Muhlbauer, 75, of 214 S. Countyline St., Fostoria, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 12:52 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 1999.
He was born in Wurtzburg, Germany, March 28, 1924, to Jacob and Anna (Glaser) Muhlbauer. His wife, Annaliese (Martens) Muhlbauer, whom he married
Aug. 10, 1945, in Germany, is deceased.
A daughter, Ulla Davis, survives in Dublin, Va.
Mr. Muhlbauer, a master scuba diver, retired from the Valve Line at Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria, after 27 years of employment.
A German Army veteran of World War II, he was a life member of the NRA.
Memorials services will be at a later date. The Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.
There will be visitation.

Services were in Gesu Jesuit Church, Toledo, Wednesday, April 28, 1999, for Maxine B. Rumschlag. The Mass of Christian burial was at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Calvary cemetery, April 25, 1999.
Mrs. Rumschlag was born in Tiffin Nov. 13, 1924, to Albert and Lillian Hoffman. On Nov. 25, 1945, she married
Henry B. "Hank" Rumschlag of New Riegel in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Chuck, Jim, Bob and Doug; four daughters, Mary Ann Soviar, Laura Michalak, Jan Stainbrook and Becky Alvarado; 24 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a sister, Joanne Elchert of New Riegel.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Russel; three sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Hart, Mrs. Cletus (Alice) Huss and Mrs. Louis (Norma) DeMonte.
Mrs. Rumschlag was a 1942 graduate of Calvert High School, Tiffin.

Michael William Durkin
Father of Tiffin resident
Michael William Durkin, 58, of 90 Mansfield Ave., Shelby, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at the St. Francis Health Care Center in Green Springs, where he had been a resident since an automobile accident in 1992.
He was born Aug. 16, 1940, in Shelby to Clarence W. and Ann (Teglovic) Durkin. They are deceased. On Oct. 5, 1963, he married
Paula (Valk) Durkin. Survivors include his wife; a son, Andrew of Shelby; a daughter, Melissa Durkin of Tiffin; three grandchildren; a brother, Timothy of Shelby; three sisters; and a special nephew, Greg Durkin of Columbus.
He was employed by Copperweld Shelby Division, an Army veteran serving in Germany 1959-1962, a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, and Shelby American Legion O'Brien Post 326. He had been a Little League umpire for many years and was an avid fisherman and golfer.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby, followed by burial in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic cemetery, Shelby.
Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main St., Shelby.
