Vivian D. Smith
Green Springs homemaker

Vivian D. Smith, 81, died Friday, March 27, 1999, at her residence in Green Springs.

She was born in Sandusky County, July 22, 1917, to Robert and Hattie Mae (Roberts) Cunningham. Her husband, David Paul Smith, whom she married Nov. 8, 1934, died Aug. 22, 1984.

Surviving are: six children, Mrs. William (Jacqueline) Zimmerman of Phoenix, Ariz., Norwood "Bud" Smith of Clyde, Mrs. Harry C. (Paula) Stiger Jr. of Green Springs, Robert Smith of Johnstown, Colo., Mrs. William (Sue) Rohrbach of Tiffin and Jerry Smith of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and four sisters and a brother, Gaye Ebersole, Lila Reed, Goldean Huffman and Robert Cunningham, all of Fremont and Dovie Dawn Polter of Tucson, Ariz.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Othethia Weighman and Bea Clay, and three brothers, Halycon, Bernard and Ransom Cunningham.

A member of Old Fort Methodist Church, Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She received her education in the Risingsun and Gibsonburg schools.

She was a life-time Green Springs-area resident and an avid bingo player.

The Rev. Jerry Wiles will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Wednesday service in the Old Fort United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Old Fort cemetery.

Visitation at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the church or the American Heart Association.

William A. Laugerman
Retired Webster employee

William A. Laugerman, 88, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in St. Catherine's Nursing Home of Tiffin, where he resided. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Johnson E. 'Jay' Risner
Former Vanlue mayor/councilman

Johnson E. "Jay" Risner, 82, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 1999, at his residence at 1515 Brookside Drive, Findlay.

He was born in Big Spring Township, Seneca County, Feb. 7, 1917, to Lee and Nina (Arnett) Risner. On March 25, 1937, in Portland, Ind., he married Clarice A. Beck, who survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Sharon K. Newkirk of Vermilion, Jane A. Mininni of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Roxanne Rossman of Arlington; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jen Cook and Rowena Lowery, both of Fostoria and Sylvia Bishop of New Riegel.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Risner in 1954; and nine brothers.

Mr. Risner, the owner of Jay's Tire and Battery in Vanlue 1943-64, also worked as a TBA Distributor for Sinclair Refining covering three counties and retired in 1979 as an appraiser for ODOT in Lima.

While living in Vanlue, he served two terms as mayor, seven terms as city councilman, 12 years as assistant fire chief and two years as fire chief.

A graduate of Vanlue High School, he completed business course through the American Technical Society in Chicago.

He also was a principal in Millstream Motor Speedway for eight years.

Mr. Risner was a life member of Elks 75 for 47 years; and a member of the Lions Club, where he was a charter member; United Conservation Club, Moose Lodge 698, where he was a 26 year member; served on the Hancock County Republican Executive Committee for 19 years and served as a National Safety Council instructor.

The Rev. Mark Bishop will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay. Burial will be in Zion Bloom cemetery, near Vanlue.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Halle D. Altman
Kansas native/homemaker

Halle D. Altman, 92, of 1640 Hilton Ave., Findlay, died in The Heritage House Nursing Home, at 3:05 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 1999.

She was born in Kansas, Ohio, June 21, 1906, the daughter of Ira and Mabel (Reese) McDaniel. Her husband, Paul R. Altman, whom she married May 10, 1933, preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1974.

Surviving are a brother, Harry B. McDaniel of Kansas; a nephew, Thomas D. Rowe of Cleveland; and a niece Linda McDaniel Smith of Columbus.

Also preceding her in death were a nephew, a niece and two sisters, Donna G. King and Caryl A. Rowe.

A member of the First Christian Church, Findlay, Mrs. Altman was a homemaker.

Private graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Kansas cemetery, Liberty Township, Seneca County.

There will be no visitation. The Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral home, Findlay, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Theresa C. Missler
Former Bellevue homemaker

Theresa C. Missler, 89, formerly of Kilbourne Street, Bellevue, died Sunday March 28, 1999, in Norwalk Memorial Home.

She was born June 26, 1909, in St. Stephens, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Emma Wilhelm) Reiderman. Her husband of 68 years, Philip Missler, whom she married Feb. 3, 1931, in St. Stephens Catholic Church, St. Stephens, survives.

Survivors also include: four sons, Andrew J. Missler of Oberlin, Eugene R. Missler of Norwalk and Marvin L. and Gerald R. Missler, both of Bellevue; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Marjorie) Carroll of Clyde and Mrs.James (Violet Ann) Jacobs of North Baltimore; 29 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Catherine Brown of Bellevue and Rita Meyer of Phoenix, Ariz.

Preceding her in death were a son, Clinton E. Missler; four brothers, Sylvester, Edmund, Louis and Clement; two sisters, Mary Tiell and Leona Neff; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Missler, a homemaker, was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue and its Rosary Alter Society.

A Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Bellevue Catholic cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Prayers also will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

William A. Laugerman
Retired Webster employee

William A. Laugerman, 88, of 2320 W. Seneca CR 6, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in St. Catherines of Tiffin.

He was born in Tiffin, April 23, 1910, to Anthony and Theresa (Steides) Laugerman. He had never married .

A sister, Margaret Laugerman, is deceased.

Mr. Laugerman, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, retired in 1975 as a chain assembler from the Webster Mfg. Co., after 36 years of employment.

He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph cemetery, with the Rev. James Say officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Laurent Brickner
Gem Mfg. Co. retiree

Laurent Brickner, 93, 1340 Woodland Ave., died Sunday evening March 28, 1999, in St. Catherine's of Bloomville. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Gem Manufacturing retiree

Laurent J. Brickner, 93, 1340 Woodland Ave., died in St. Catherine of Bloomville at 6:43 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1999.

He was born in Bascom July 14, 1905, to John and Frances (Baldauf) Brickner. On Feb. 9, 1929, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, he married Ruth G. Zimmerman. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Dr. Eugene Brickner of Akron and James H. and Larry Brickner, both of Tiffin; three daughters, Patricia Smith, Mrs. Donald (Phyllis) Kuhn and Mrs. Paul (Pamela) Bonnell, all of Tiffin; a sister, Ruth Swisher of Adrian, Ohio; 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Reindl and Mabel Sager; five brothers, Roman, Wade, Michael, Ralph and Clem Brickner; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Brickner, a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul, had been employed as a machinist at the Gem Manufacturing in Bascom for 53 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Frank A. Murd as celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at the church at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a Wake service will be at 8:45.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul.

Donald J. Thompson
Former Findlay resident

Donald J. Thompson, 45, of Mount Holly Springs, Pa., died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday March 28, 1999, in Carlisle Hospital, Carlisle, Pa. Arrangements are pending at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Doris O. Duffett
Retired bookkeeper

Doris O. Duffett, 85, formerly of West Maple Street, Clyde, died Monday, March 29, 1999, in St. Francis Nursing Home, Green Springs.

She was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Jackson Township, Sandusky County, to Charles and Mazie (Abbott) Hudson. In 1931, she married Edward Fry. He died in 1967. Her second husband, Arthur Duffett, whom she married in 1969, died in 1994.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Troy (Norma Jean) Smith of Clyde and Mrs. LaVerde (Judith Ann Fry) Kuns of Green Springs; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also deceased are a son, Amon "Red," who died in 1995; a brother, Orian Hayes Hudson; and a sister, Verna Edith Parker.

Mrs. Duffett, who had lived in the Sandusky County area all her life, retired as a bookkeeper in 1969 from Zehner's Packing in Bellevue.

She received her education in the Sandusky County Schools and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clyde; Ohio Eastern Star 73, of which she was past worthy matron and served on the Temple board.

The Rev. John Bailey will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Thursday service in the First United Methodist Church, Race Street, Clyde. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, where Eastern Star services will be at 7.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Improvement Fund or Eastern Star 73.

John T. Buccione
Seneca Medical associate director

John T. Buccione, 30, 4139 S. TR 22, was dead on arrival at 6:52 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born in Tiffin Sept. 25, 1968, to the late John M. and Mary L. (Holman) Buccione.

Survivors include his close friend, Linda Foraker of Tiffin; a brother, Thomas J. Buccione of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; two sisters, Nancy C. (Buccione) Smith of Tiffin, formerly of Bellevue, and Leah E. (Buccione) Holman of Lakeland, Fla.; a nephew and two nieces.

Mr. Buccione, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, was employed as associate director of sports medicine at Seneca Medical Inc. of Tiffin.

An avid Ham radio operator, he also was a member of the Izaak Walton League.

Services in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. William Rose officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospital of Tiffin or a charity of the donor's choice.

Lester C. Hartman
RCA retiree

Lester C. Hartman, 77, of Oaklawn Drive, Fostoria, died there at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1999.

He was born In Hancock County Nov. 21, 1921, to Jesse and Myrtle (Thomas) Hartman. On June 15, 1943, in Tiro, he married Maryell L. Nau. She survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two sons, Timothy and Daniel Hartman, both of Fostoria; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Mary Alice) Haldeman of West Millgrove and Mrs. Jeff (Lynette) Martin of Findlay; a sister, Dorothy Eskers of Findlay; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Four brothers and four sisters are deceased.

Mr. Hartman, a 1940 graduate of Arcadia High School, retired in 1983 from RCA in Findlay. Before that he was employed as an autobody mechanic at Bob Homer Chevrolet and Hummell Motor Sales, both of Fostoria.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of West Independence United Methodist Church, the National American Legion and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Graveside services, with military honors provided by the Joint Service Groups of Fostoria, were Tuesday in Riverview cemetery, West Millgrove. The Rev. Lowell Reeder officiated.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Seneca County.
