BENTZ Ralph L. Bentz, age 70, passed away Friday, September 13, at Kobacker House, Hospice at Riverside and Grant. Born April 11, 1932 in Cleveland. He is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Zielke); daughter, Joni Bentz (Bill) Seal of Gahanna; brother-in-law, Wally (Chris) Zielke of New Waterford, Ohio. BURNS Earl E. Burns, 44, of London died Saturday, September 14, 2002, at the National Trails Raceway. He was born August 16, 1958 in Columbus, Ohio. He was a son of Clyde and Sarah (Guffey) Burns. Earl loved to fish and hunt. He and his brother Jeff built and drove drag cars for many years, both legally and sometimes not. He is survived by his wife, Cathy (Wisecarver) Burns; mother, of Galloway; children, Patricia Wisecarver, Kari Wisecarver and Michael Burns, all at home; sisters, Joyce Sayers of South Bloomingville, Ohio; Brenda Kraft of Columbus; brothers, Jeff Burns of London and Gary Burns of Columbus; nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father. The family invites friends to call at the RADER-LYNCH AND DODDS FUNERAL HOME, London, Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. where funeral service will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove cemetery, Georgesville.
CAVANAGH Helen Kesel Cavanagh, age 84, of Bexley, formerly of Albany, New York, died Saturday, September 14, 2002 at Sunrise at Bexley. She retired in 1977 as the Assistant to the Superintendent of the Albany (New York) City School District after 21 years of service, where she also served as a Middle School Principal. In Albany, New York, Helen was a member of St. Margaret Mary's Parish, where she served as a Trustee. She was also an active member of the Syracuse University Alumni Association, the Albany Area Retired Teachers' Association and the New York State School Administrators Association. She served as an officer of each of these associations during her membership. Helen was also a member of the University Club of Albany. She is preceded in death by her daughter Diane Tyson in March, 1995 and an infant son Raymond T. Cavanagh III in 1948. Helen is survived by her son, Marcus V. and Anna D. Cavanagh of Bexley; grandchildren, Arthur (Diane) Tyson of Portland, Oregon, Blair Tyson of Tokyo, Japan, Brandon and Jeffrey Cavanagh, both of Bexley; 2 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. There will be a memorial service in Albany, New Yok at a later date. DILLER Doris Leona Diller, age 93, Sunday, September 15, 2002, Mt. Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Oh. Member of Indianola Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and Trustee. Professor Emeritus, Skidmore College, where she retired from teaching nursing in 1973. Graduate of Pandora High School. Received her Bachelor's Degree from Bluffton College, her Diploma in Nursing from The Johns Hopkins Hospital School Of Nursing; and her Master's Degree from Columbia University. She taught and supervised Surgical Nursing at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, before going to Skidmore College. She received 8 grants from The National Cancer Institute, and was the first nurse to conduct a study funded by The National Cancer Institute. She was co-author of a textbook on surgical nursing, and wrote several articles published by the American Journal Of Nursing. Her life story was featured in a book titled: "It Took Courage, Compassion, and Curiosity", published by The Oncology Nursing Society. On October 5, 2002, she will be honored at Bluffton College as Alumni Of The Year. Survived by nieces, Mrs. Eugene (Dorothy) Long of Bluffton, Oh., and Mrs. K. William (Catherine) Dickerson of Amherst, Oh.; 4 great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews. ERVIN Dorothy J. Ervin, age 86, of Springfield, died Friday, September 13, 2002 at 3:15 p.m. in Community Hospital. She was born in Bellaire, Ohio on September 2, 1916, the daughter of Robert C. and Estelle (Perkins) Graham. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Washington Court House, Ohio. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Elizabeth Ervin of Springfield, Ohio; a granddaughter, Alisha Jean Ervin; two nieces, Karen Graham of Pennsylvania and Debbie Carter of Arizona; one cousin, Mary Ellis of Miami, Florida; sisters-in-law, Betty Graham of Shadyside, Ohio and Vera Graham of Texas; brother-in-law, George Alt of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. William Alfred Ervin on October 5, 1999, three brothers Norval, Harold and Robert Graham and one sister Geraldine Alt. HANNAHS James H. "Jim" Hannahs, age 80, a long-time resident of Upper Arlington, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 14, 2002. He was a graduate of Columbus North High School, Class of 1939 and continued actively in the Old North Hi Alumni Club. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served at Pearl Harbor during the South Pacific Theater and was a former member of Raymond Scott American Legion Post. The Columbus area continues to be blessed by Jim's incredible master carpenter talent that includes his skillful construction of over 50 homes, churches and commercial properties. Those skills continued in service to The Ohio State University until he
retired in 1990. Jim had a life-long love of music using his vocal talent in three church choirs and the popular stage production Vaud Villities for 38 years, beginning in 1959. Jim attended Riverside Bible Church, was active in the U.A. Senior Center and enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing softball and cheering on the OSU Buckeyes. Blessed by his unfailing love and devotion is Jim's family that includes his high school sweetheart and wife of over 60 years, Dottie (Limes) Hannahs; sons, James R. Hannahs and Gary W. Hannahs and fiancé, Kathy L. Burns; daughter, Beverly H. Gillespie and husband, Thomas E. Gillespie; grandchildren, Tricia Hannahs, Mike (Becca) Hannahs, Greg Hannahs, Scott Beall, Andy Beall, and Mike Gillespie; and nearly 100 other extended family members. JONES (HARRINGTON) Lindsay A. Jones (Harrington), 17, beautiful daughter and best friend of Kathy L. Harrington and Ronald J. Jones, has blossomed into a new life. True to her generous nature, Lindsay gave the gift of life through organ donation to make life better for numerous others. On September 13, 2002, Lindsay left behind in her aura of beauty countless grieving family and friends -- most of all her parents, Kathy and Tom Harrington, Ron and Laura Jones; Lindsay's sisters, Mallory and Reilly Harrington. Other loving family are her grandmothers, Beverly Oring (of Bay Village) and Aldona Jones (of North Olmsted). As well as her grandparents in central Ohio, Carl and Jeanne Harrington, and Bill and Mickey Schneider. She was adored by her aunts and uncles, Jill (Ray) Thomas, Monica (John) Opdycke; uncles, Tim (Connie) Oring and John Oring, Jr.; aunts, Laura (Lee) Gordon, Lesa Powsey and Uncle Rodger (Joy) Jones. Lindsay did not lack for cousinly love from Collin French, Alexis Alyce Opdycke, Jesse, Evan and Brady Jones, Kira, Tyler and Alex Gordon and Heidi Powsey. She also had many aunts, uncles and cousins in her extended families, the Harringtons and Schneiders. A girl blessed with a treasure trove of friends from many places and schools, most recently Dublin Scioto High School. Lindsay will be especially missed by her "other sisters" Morgan Miller, Maria Dixon and Tara Truscott. Many close friends of the family found Lindsay to be a blessing in their lives, including Ellen Johnson and family; Mary and Bert Filice and family; Tommy, Shawnee, Dante and Armani Moretti; Roopande Dirrig and family; Chip, Jo, Bo and Zach Hart. A special thanks to Riverside Hospital and Life Line of Ohio for enabling Lindsay to continue living through others. JUDY Carolyn Parker (Cole) Judy, age 68, of Upper Arlington, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2002 at Kobacker House following a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bill Judy and their children, Steve Judy, Barbara (Tim) McCombs, Dan (Mary) Judy and Susan Cruz; precious grandchildren, Megan and Ben McCombs, Nick and Mike Judy; brothers, Bob (Robin) Cole and David (Janet) Cole; sisters-in-law, Jean (Lee) Tracy and Elaine Hopkins; several nieces and nephews; cousins, Kathy Mitchell, Jean (Frank) Raidl and David Mitchell. Carolyn was a 1951 graduate of North High School and a 1954 graduate of The Ohio State University. Member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and The Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. Carolyn retired following twenty years of service at Highlights for Children magazine, where she served as Director of Telemarketing Sales. Carolyn was a loving and supportive wife to Bill, a wonderful and caring mother to her children and she cherished her grandchildren. She had special relationships with her cousins and friends and she was an inspirational mentor to her associates at Highlights. Carolyn's faith, humor and loving spirit touched her family and friends and she will be greatly missed. KLEINLEIN Samuel Kleinlein, age 97, born February 21, 1905 at Valley Crossing, Ohio, died September 13, 2002, at his home. Preceded in death by his wife Ruth and son Louis. Survived by son, Larry and his wife Pamela; granddaughter, Jennifer Counts; grandson, Louis; 5 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty Kleinlein. Survived by beloved wife of 55 years, Mildred; children, Marilyn Louise Sweeney (Ronald Salyer) and William Lloyd (Anita) Kline; grandchildren, Caroline Louise Sweeney, Chuck (Michelle) Kline, Jamie (Stephanie) Kline, Chas and Madison; other family, Bill and Mae McCorkle, Irv and Billie Fisk, Nanci, Amy, Tami, Bill (Roxanne), Rocky, Casey, Sandye (Sergei), Sarah, Bill and Clinton, Jennifer (Bryan) and William.
