NORTH Mary Elizabeth North, 77, died September 8, 2002 at her residence. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at CROUSE-KAUBER-SAMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, OH, with Rev. Richard Burgie officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson cemetery, Blacklick, OH. Mrs. North was born April 25, 1925 in Gahanna, OH to the late Ray and Florence Souder Swick. She was a former employee of 22 years with Johnstown Manufacturing Co., Inc. Survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Dean) Lee of Lakewood, NM, son, Ralph (Joanne) North of Johnstown, daughter, Carol Reed of Johnstown, daughter and son-in-law, Toby Justice and Bob Subler of Johnstown; one sister-in-law, Eunice Swick of Pataskala; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and all the many young people she has opened her home to and lives she has touched. Preceded in death by her husband Vern E. North, five brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at the funeral home. PEPON Marjorie E. Pepon, 87, of Westerville, OH, and formerly of Port Clinton, OH died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 at the Village at Westerville Nursing Center, Westerville, OH. Mrs. Pepon was born April 11, 1915 in Cleveland, OH to Carry and Harriot (Kennan) Ronk. She married Francis "Prince" Pepon in Port Clinton, OH on July 25, 1936, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 2000. Mrs. Pepon and her husband owned and operated Urb's Café in Port Clinton, OH for several years. She also worked for Standard Products, Cedar Point's Gift Shop, East Harbor Store and Uhlman's Department Store in Port Clinton. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton, OH, and then St. John Neumann's Church in Sunbury, OH until unable to attend. She was a past member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club and also worked as a volunteer at H.B. Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. Survivors include her son, Daniel (Ann) Pepon of Grandbury, TX; daughters, Margie Contos of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Virginia "Ginny" (John) Wallace of Galena, OH; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Lewis (Lucille) Ronk of Pinellas Park, FL. Marge was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral service will be conducted by Fr. Raymond Ensman 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 in the GERNER-WOLF-BROSSIA-MARSH FUNERAL HOME, Port Clinton, OH. Interment will follow in Galena cemetery, Galena, OH, where graveside service will be conducted by Reverand James Walter at 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. REDMOND Charles D. Redmond, age 88, of Upper Arlington, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He graduated from West High School, The Ohio State University and received a degree from Franklin Law School in 1954. Charles was owner and operator of Tabco, a distributor for Gulf Oil, before pursuing his law practice. For many years, he was a member of Miller Avenue E.U.B. church and since 1970, Trinity United Methodist Church. Charles provided leadership and inspirational guidance to the United Methodist Church on local and national levels. He served a term as member of the General Board of Social Concern. In 1976, Charles was appointed by and worked closely with Bishop Dwight Loder as Chancellor for the West Ohio Annual Conference. He served as Chairman and since 1975 as a member of the Board of Trustees of Riverside Methodist Hospital, more recently, Ohio Health. Charles also served as a member and Chairman of Boards at Wesley Glen Retirement Center, The University Club and Scioto Country Club. He was preceded in death by his father John Redmond, mother Hazel, stepmother Grace, wife Pearle Mae Redmond in 1972, son Paul C. Redmond M.D. in 1998 and brothers John, Earl and Paul Redmond. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Sisson of Santa Fe, NM; daughter-in-law, Astrid Skeie Redmond; sister, Hazel Harper; brother, George (Dorothy) Redmond of Alabama; grandchildren, Mark Redmond and Missy Redmond Guay; great-grandchildren, Astrid, Billy and Caroline Guay; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marcia and Rex Ogle of Westerville. SMOOT Donald Ray Smoot "Son", age 47, born in Madison, W. Va. departed this life on Friday, September 6, 2002 at the O.S.U. East Hospital. WONN (BRICKER) Ruth Bricker Wonn, age 76, died on Sept. 9, 2002, at Mt. Carmel East. Former resident of Nelsonville, moving to Columbus in 1940. Preceded in death by parents Burns M. and Rhea Hoodlet Coakley, sister Mary Parrish, husbands George Bricker and Charlie Wonn and beloved grandson Gregg Levin. Past member of Swiss Edelweiss Damenchor, former Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, past president of Whitehall Lioness Club, current member of the Whitehall Area Lions and recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, graduate of Bexley High School class of '44. AUGUSTINE Lori Ann Augustine, age 36, of Westerville passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at her residence. Lori worked for the State of Ohio in the Bureau of Jobs and Family Services and she graduated from Columbus State Community College in December 1988 with a degree in Computer Science. BLAIR Rosemary C. Blair, age 71, of Upper Arlington went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was retired after 20 years from Columbus Public Schools as a field librarian. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Guy Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Guy and Maureen Blair of Hilliard and Tom and Sally Blair of London, OH; grandchildren, Misty (Matt) Decker, Jeanette Blair and Tommy Blair; great grandson, Matthew Decker II. GILLIE The Honorable William T. Gillie, former Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at First Community Village at the age of 87. He is best known for his enthusiasm and knowledgeable participation in everything he pursued. Judge Gillie received his undergraduate degree at Western Reserve University and graduated from Cleveland Law School, now known as Cleveland-Marshall Law School at Cleveland State University. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WW II, he practiced law for 8 years in Urbana, Oh. He then served as a jurist in Central Ohio for more than 40 years. He served for 4* years on the municipal bench in Urbana, 12 years on the Franklin County Municipal Court, and 25 years on the Common Pleas Court. He presided over many controversial cases during his tenure in the Court of Common Pleas including the John Shrader civil murder trial. The U.S. Supreme Court agreed with his findings. Judge Gillie said that the trial court bench was, "the best job in government". He was highly regarded by his colleagues and was "everyone's favorite judge". Bruce Campbell of the Columbus Bar Association said, "His knowledge was surpassed only by his compassion, humility and humanity." Judge Gillie's contributions to Columbus extend beyond his professional life. He would rarely say no when asked to participate. He was very active in the First Unitarian Universalist Church and served on many boards and committees in the community. He most recently served on the Board of the American Federation for Aging Research-Ohio, and the Columbus Historical Society Board of Trustees. He served on many CBA committees including the ethics committee, and is featured in a jury video. As a result of his passion for his Scots heritage, he was active in the Mid-Ohio Heritage Association and the Scottish American Cultural Society. He formerly served on the boards of the Red Cross and Leukemia Society, among many others. Judge Gillie and his late wife, Catherine were married for more than 60 years and due to Catherine's community activism, he used to say that "Catherine was the best gift I ever gave Columbus". He loved to play chess and hockey, and was often found whittling in his chambers as he pondered his rulings. He was honored in June of this year with the 2002 Living History Award from the Columbus Historical Society for his lifelong contributions to Central Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine and son Douglas and is survived by his children, Gillian Trescott, James T. (Jamie) Gillie and Geoffrey (Carole) Gillie, all of Calif.; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 West Weisheimer Rd., 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2002. A Reception will follow the service. GLASSBURN Walden Glassburn, age 87, of Chillicothe died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002 following a brief illness. Husband of Leona Thompson Glassburn. GRIFFITH Richard F. "Rick" Griffith, 49, of South Vienna died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 as the result of an automobile accident. Born September 28, 1952 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of William Henry and Esther Jean (Jenneve) Griffith. He retired after 24 years as a Lietenant from the US Navy, having served in submarines. A veteran of the Vietnam and Desert Storm wars, he was also a member of the VFW. Currently Rick was serving as the chef at the Madison County Senior Center. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Sue Griffith; sons, Richard F. (Maribeth) Griffith, Jr. and Kevin J. (Michelle) Griffith, both of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters, Amy R. (Rueben) Rivera of Virginia Beach and Abby Griffith at home; step son, Robert J.
