COONS Thomas A. Coons, 83, of Columbus, died Sunday, September 8, 2002 at Whetstone Care Center, Columbus, Ohio. Past Master of Old Glory Masonic Lodge, Chicago, IL, veteran of WWII where he served as a Sergeant in the 394th Bomb Group with the 586th Bomb Squadron. Preceded in death by wife Kathryn (Eggiman) Coons, mother Florence, father Carl Coons, sisters Anna Daugherty, Helen Bell and brother Charles Clinger. Survived by sister, Alma L. GERWIG Mary Jane Gerwig, 82, a former Columbus resident, died September 6, 2002, at Christiana HealthCare Center in Newark, Del. For the past year, she had been a resident of Manor Care in Wilmington, Del. She was born in Ashland, Ky., May 27, 1920, to C.V. and Joanna Davisson Boyles. She was the widow of E. Dean Gerwig, whom she married
May 29, 1943, in Charleston, W.Va. He died in 1984 in Columbus. She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College with a degree in education. She was a member of Mortar Board, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and a number of school organizations. She was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church in Charleston and later of Trinity United Methodist Church in Upper Arlington. Several years following her husband's death, she relocated to North Carolina, Georgia, and Delaware. Although Mary Jane led numerous church, civic and social organizations, including serving on the board of trustees for many groups, she is best remembered for her devotion to family and her joy in living each day fully. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jim Miller of Newark, Del.; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathie Gerwig of Richmond, Ind., and Bruce and Laurie Gerwig of Macon, Ga.; six grandchildren; one sister, Jean Campbell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Al Boyles. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington. KNOST Ray Francis Knost, age 89, of Worthington died Sunday, September 8, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Son of Albert and Edna (Fisher) Knost of Worthington. Former president of the Ohio Consulting Company. Veteran of the Army Air Corps WWII, he participated in the D-Day Invasion and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Member of the Brookside Country Club, the American Legion and the Worthington Methodist Church. Preceded in death by brothers William, Carl, and Richard. LYNDE Noreen Louise Lynde passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, September 8, 2002 at her home in Gouverneur, New York. Preceded in death by husband Philip. Noreen spent most of the last year of her life in Columbus with her three sons, Denny (Sharon) Lynde of Columbus, Dale (Carla Chambers-Lynde) Lynde of Gahanna, and Dean (Jodi) Lynde of Canal Winchester, and with her grandchildren, Mark (Laura) Lynde of Columbus, Debbie (Quintin) Speakman of Columbus, and Bob (Melody) Lynde of Blacklick, and with her great-grandchildren, Tara and Taylor Speakman of Columbus, and Sean, Christopher and Kevin of Canal Winchester. Noreen is also survived by four daughters, Diane (Larry) Morse, Cindy (Larry) Peterson and Darlene Lynde (Danny Bona), all of Massachusetts, and Pat (Ross) Trecartin of New Hampshire, along with 16 other grandchildren and 10 other great-grandchildren located in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and New York. Noreen was a member of Oxbow Presbyterian Church where she often sang and played the guitar for her congregation. MARTIN Edmund D. "Eddie" Martin, age 77, West Jefferson passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 at his residence. He was born March 6, 1925 in Columbus the son of the late Henry and Florence Tomminy Martin. Ed retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years of service, was an Army Veteran of World War II, member of the West Jefferson American Legion Post No. 201, and had been a little league coach for several years. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kathryn Pennington Martin; daughter, Patty (John) Webb of West Jefferson; sons, Danny (Barb) Martin of Centerburg, Gary (Georgia) Martin of Queens Creek, AZ; five grandchildren, Aaron Webb, Wendy Webb, Tabitha Martin, Jacob Martin and Mariah Martin; sisters, Florence Mae Delong and Margarette Taylor, both of Columbus; sister-in-law, Ruthe Martin of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews. MILLER Jacqueline Miller, 68, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Delaware, Ohio died Saturday in Delaware. She was born September 4, 1934 in Lobato, W. Va., to William Earl Dye and Anna (Binion) Dye. She was a retired licensed massage therapist, a former Delaware County realtor, and former member of the Women of the Moose, Delaware. Survived by a daughter, Shari (Jerry) Furay of Delaware; 3 sons, Steve Underwood and his wife, Shari Jayzk of Columbus, William Underwood of Delaware, and James D.
